So this is a little hole in the wall spot. Bars on the window type vibe but don't be intimidated chicken is hot and crunchy. I got spicy wing and some fried rice. The plate is HEAVY.. definitely got some weight to it and for a good price. I got spicy but it could've been spicier if I'm being honest or I maybe should've gotten a pepper that would've hit the spot. The rice reminds me of the old Timmy Chans style rice back in the day when it was good. So overall I had a really affordable plate that was definitely filling and the chicken was hot and fresh. Make sure you check your receipt before leaving. I ordered 3p wings roll and shrimp fried rice, i was informed of the up charge for the shrimp. 3.75 for little baby hot pink shrimp. Once i paid and got to my car i thought about the total and it felt like i was way to much even with up charge. Oh yea cause i was charged for a 5p with shrimp rice. ANDDD a whole other order of just wings labeled as MISC on the ticket. I didn't ask for this but was charged for it. And they make sure to but no refunds on the receipt so once you make it out the building it's nothing you can do. That's just that the food dosnt even make it okay that you got extra everything lacks flavor. For this to be an older spot and five min from an HBCU they need to work on spices. I feel scammed for lower the mid grade food. Walked away spending twice as much as i should've being charged for items i didn't order then saying no refunds no expectations. This will be my 18th year or so that I visit. I used to visit more often when I worked nearby. But whenever I am in the medical center or off of 288 I have to stop. You can call ahead and it's never more then 6-10 min for pick up. The food is good/ the price is good and the kitchen is dated but clean. I think it's the owner's son that runs it now. Simple and Sweet They are a mom and pop shop doing fried chicken really well! I didn't feel like waiting so I phoned my order in and got a 3 piece chicken dinner with fried rice and a fish burger. Everything was really good. All of this came in at about $9.50 which is quite affordable considering how much food you get. The fried chicken was moist and seasoned beautifully. The skin is quite crunchy and not too greasy. The fried rice is good but somewhat bland. I would recommend adding soy sauce or salt to it. The fish burger was also good but some additional tartar sauce would have been appreciated. This place is somewhat hood but it's alright. The staff are there to get you in and out so don't go expecting a huge welcome party with smiles on their faces. Twice, the crinkle fries were perfect. The last time, the fries were some of the worst fries i have had. You place your order and then they give you a paper number. They call the number and you pay when you pick up your food. I was in and out in like 15 minutes. Me and my friend ordered the 3 piece chicken with fries and the 2 piece chicken with fried rice. We took our meal back to my apartment. Opening the box I was really surprised at how big the pieces were! I only got the 2 piece and I was ridiculously full. There wasn't anything special about the fries or fried rice but the chicken was moist and tender and the breading but perfectly crunchy. My friend compared it to Popeyes but I beg to differ. Popeyes quality is so inconsistent; I'll get tiny pieces that are soggy! Although I love Popeye's spicy breading and mashed potatoes, if I have a hankering for fried chicken I would definitely come back to this place. Cheaper than Popeyes! One of my go-to places in Houston if I'm looking to get some tasty fried cuisine at a great price. I usually get the #26 - - 2 Fish with 6 butterfly shrimp on their Chicken Rice for $10.99 - - OMG it's like so damn good and the best part - not greasy at all, and not too salty or over spiced at all - -just right. My dinner comes with a small side salad that has some honey mustard dressing in it (very good). No dinner roll for me - if I'm gonna eat bread it better be fresh baked quality bread just outta the oven, especially if I'm gonna overcarb it and do some damage Oprah-style. Their tartar sauce is homemade and has a touch of sweetness to it. You'll want more and it can be used for anything so just pay the $1.69 for the larger 3oz container and you're all set. I've had the chicken wings here before and they rock too. The Chicken Fried Rice is very good and well priced @ $6.99 compared to some places who can be closer to $10. The rice grain itself isn't the best quality (i.e. jasmine / basmati / long grain) but it's great the same day. A Few Other Notes: - It's CASH only - - no Apple Pay here. In fact if you probably say "Apple Pay" they'll think you're a psycho fruit-nut escapee and will tell you to GTFO. - Speaking of GTFO - everything here is TO-GO!
