This business ruined my wedding dress. I brought my dress to them against my better judgement - I had worked with these cleaners twice before and the service had been ok - the only reason I gave them repeat business was that they are just a few blocks from my house. My first experience with them, I brought in a cashmere sweater. The work was adequate, but I noticed a few days after picking the sweater up that they hadn't addressed the coffee stain on the sleeve like I'd asked them to at all. Fast forward to a week after my wedding, I brought my dress to them for a pretty prominent wine stain. I had low expectations - I knew it was possible the stain wouldn't come out. They warned me of that too, but agreed to give it a shot. I didn't hear from them for a month. I finally called and the male owner came on the phone and said " I have bad news. I can't get this stain out. I can try one more thing, but it may take the 'shine' out of your dress." My dress was a very simple (no beading, etc.) and a satin-esque material. I gave him the go ahead to try it. Again, I didn't hear from them for a few weeks. I went in to check on the status, and the woman owner brought the dress out. Their new "method" it appeared was to pour bleach directly on the wine stain!! It was now a horrible brown/green color where the stain was, no less prominent, and I highly doubt any other cleaner can correct what they've done. At least if they'd left the wine stain as it was, I could have checked with another cleaner. And, I could have poured bleach on my own dress at home if that was the route I knew they were going to take!! The owner knew it was bad. She kept desperately calling me 'sister' and trying to rush me out the door. They didn't charge me for the "cleaning" or better yet, the additional damage they caused to my dress. I'm angry and bitter over this entire experience. These people are not professionals!! Not only is my dress now bleach stained, they didn't even bother to try to clean the rest of it (some grass, dirt etc) from the lawn from our outdoor wedding. Horrible, horrible experience. They really are the best in the downtown/east sac area for the job they do and the price (button up dry cleaned here: $5 elsewhere $6.50). i continually go here. however the one drawback: they are brusk and blunt as hell. i go in there just with a deep breath sometimes like "they're nice it's fine" but otherwise price and quality match here. read more

I had three work shirts altered from long sleeve to short sleeve. It was the third time going there in the last 2 years, three shirts every time. They did a good job and only charged me $9 dollars a shirt, taking 4 days which may be normal but I was ok with that. Just went in today to pick up my 3 shirts and Tony 'the owner' says he wants $45. I said that he only charged $9 a shirt before. I didn't go over price when I dropped them off thinking it would be the same price. Instead Tony WENT OFF saying no, no, no, that's not true, no way. He basically called me a liar. I said look it up. He could of avoided the next 5 minutes of arguing/lying by using good customer service skills and saying, yes o.k... but that was then, prices have gone up!! So he looked up the history and found out I was right, both times $9 a shirt x 3. He showed me the computer screen and the transactions. He 'TRIED' to explain some twisted story that 1 shirt was altered and other was this and the 3rd was that, didn't make sense. He got louder, repeating himself and cut me off from explaining. I finally said STOP, the fact of the matter I said is.. "keep it simple, I brought in 3 shirts @ $9 to cut the sleeves for $27, simple". He kept it up, I couldn't believe it. I said look at the computer, quit arguing because you have the facts on the screen, your wrong your lying AND you have awful customer service skills. After figuring I wasn't buying his rambling lying diatribe and that I wasn't a push over, he pulled out the..."Well prices have gone up" card.. LOL. I said you could of said that 5 minutes ago but instead called me a liar and had the proof hit you in the face. I said I'll pay you what you want, I gotta go. He needs to realize arguing, lying and berating people will lose him customers, I mean he had to know this the whole 5 minutes I was there. I said this is my last time here and wished him a nice day as I walked out. I'm sure he's not losing any sleep because I wasn't a big customer of his but, oh well time to go somewhere else. Also the parking is very limited and really hard getting out of there on a busy J street. read more

I'm at a loss as to why these guys don't have any reviews yet! When I first moved up here I found #1 Cleaners when I was meeting some friends for dinner and the only place to lock up my bike was in front of their store. When he saw me locking up my bike he came walking out and I expected him to yell at me for blocking his window but instead got a cheery hello. He complimented my bike and went back to playing golf inside with a customer of his. I rarely use cleaners but I filed the location away in my head for future use. 2+ years later I needed to get a tuxedo that had been crumpled up in a bag and stored away somewhere since 1985 (no, really) cleaned and pressed; this thing looked bad and smelled even worse. I rode on over to #1 Cleaners to drop it off to see what they could do, was greeted with a cheery "hello, hello" and two days and $10.50 later (yes, $10.50 to clean and press a horridly smelly and wrinkled tuxedo!) I was the dapperest dancer at an 80's prom themed fondue party! read more

Got a pair of work pants taken up. Exciting, I know. Believe me, this was essentially the apex of respectability in my week before it took a downward spiral into unmet deadlines, anger-fueled alcoholism, and the realization that I will die a long, protracted, lonely death. But I got my pants hemmed! $10! They did a good job and had them done within 3 business days. Also, they abused me a little at the counter. Spicy face! 4.5 stars. I have had no issues with my dry cleaning, the prices are reasonable, and Tony and the woman who works there (his wife? sister? don't even know) are a total riot. Tony in particular will tell jokes and yank your chain, which I personally love but may not be your thing (but if it's not, you're probably not very much fun at parties). The only thing I don't like is that they don't turn stuff around super quickly unless you explicitly ask them to do so. They have always accommodated me (and I try not to make them rush stuff just because), but you do have to ask. Oh, and they don't take Amex. Still an excellent dry cleaner. read more

Tony likes it in the back! That is, if you get a suit cleaned here, he puts your pants in back of your suit jacket. So if you think it's missing, just look behind the jacket, where Tony likes it! I didn't get to golf for a discount but maybe next time. Best time I have ever had at a cleaners. Why do I want to stay and hang out so long? It's all about Tony and his wife running the show. I took my wife's and my dry cleaning here because she had to go to the courts on short notice (she's a lawyer). They had her stuff ready in less than 24 hours and it looked great. The lady and her husband who run the place are incredibly kind and efficient. Their grandson was there for the summer and the lady kept telling the kid to call me, "Uncle."
