Also, quick note: if you're going to collect someone's personal financial information, the bare minimum expectation is professionalism and follow-through--not a live-action game of "whoever gets here next wins." The name Friendly Motors Group is honestly the most impressive part of the experience. Bold branding choice. 10/10 for irony. 0/10 for business acumen. I did my price/condition research via CarFax, Kelley Blue Book, and JDPower online, then made an appt to test-drive a used 2021 Mazda3 (45K miles) at Roger Beasley Central. (Before making the appt, I specifically asked a store rep online if the price were open to negotiation, since my research w' Kelley showed an average listing at thousands less than Beasley was asking. The online rep said yes.) THE GOOD PART: Once at the store, Sky was a pleasant and knowledgeable salesperson. She patiently answered all my questions (esp since I'd never driven a keyless car with apps before!) and went with me on my test drive. So far, so good... THE BAD PART: Once I'd driven the car, a "numbers guy"---I think his name was "Willie" but I'm not positive (heavy-set w' beard/cap)---came over with a couple of printouts with figures, offering me not a penny less than the initial $19.5K asking price! As mentioned, I'd already done a ton of research online, showing the "Typical Listing" price for this make/model/mileage at $17.7K, the Kelley "Fair Purchase Price" at $16.1K, and the JDPower price at $18.1K. "Willie" brushed off all of my figures, saying I must not have entered the correct mileage for the Kelley quote (which I did), and that Beasley "did not use" JDPower numbers. (Just because you don't "use" them doesn't mean JDPower doesn't have reputable numbers!) I didn't expect to get the low-end price of $16.1K, but I certainly DID expect a bit of negotiation that ended up closer to the $17.7-18.1K numbers. Especially since I was offering to pay for the entire car up-front! I've negotiated for used cars several times in past decades, and I know that the dealership always initially marks up the price and that the later agreed-upon price usually falls within the range shown by Kelley and others. But this guy offered NOTHING. He also told me that Roger Beasley had 4 dealerships in town and that I was not going to find another similar Mazda3 with them at a better price than $19.5K, since all the prices were linked---insinuating that if I really wanted a Mazda3, I'd have to deal with Roger Beasley! At this point, I informed him that PoleStar just down the street on Burnet currently has a similar Mazda3, as do other Mazda dealerships in Buda, San Antonio, etc., as do other smaller dealerships within Austin. He basically shrugged, and I left. Just curious: Did he think I was ignorant about car prices since I'm a middle-aged woman?! I find it hard to believe that he would not have negotiated the price with a man, and taken him more seriously. Needless to say, I won't be coming here again.

I was in the market for a late model Infiniti and noticed that he had several on hand. When John called me back, I delivered my typical "This ain't my first rodeo speech," so as to let him know that I was not going to be a push over. John was very humble and friendly, it was immediately apparent to me that working with him was going to be fun and easy. After speaking on the phone a few times, curiosity finally got the better of me and I stopped by after work. John is a man's man who loves to talk about fishing and his kids, and we got along famously. He presented me with several options, and earned my trust by revealing several aspects of the deal that are normally kept from customers. It was an educational experience, even for someone like me whose bought several cars and has friends who have their dealers license. The car had some minor imperfections, but John made some calls and got me taken care of. As it turns out, this is not his first rodeo either and he is incredibly well connected, and apparently incredibly influential with his business contacts as he was able to get me some nice freebies and discounts. Having purchased 10 cars since moving to Austin, most of them at Austin Infiniti, I had a good basis for comparison for rating a car buying experience. John and Texas Auto Ranch are far and away the best I've ever encountered, and because of integrity, his personality, and his willingness to go above and beyond, he's earned a customer for life. Here are some pointers: 1. Call him first to find out if he has what you want, or visit his website. 2. He may be able to find what you want if he doesn't already have it. 3. Be nice and you'll be amazed at the level of service you receive. 4. Give John a shot at your financing even if you already have your own lined up. He could have saved me some money, as it turns out. 5. Compare his prices to anyone in town; you'll be amazed. 6. Tell him that you contacted him because of his YELP page, so he'll believe me when I tell him it will actually increase his sales.

I found the car online and had to drive from Galveston to Hutto to go get it. John held the car for me for 2-3 days until I could get out there; even though, he had other offers on it. When we got there, he handed me the keys, and allowed us to test drive the car by ourselves, trusting us to come back. Neither him, nor his friend and co-worker, Mike, bothered us while we were looking at the car, checking for damage, making sure all the buttons, lights, etc. worked; and that the car was in good condition. They were actually helpful and answered all of our questions with no pressure. They were no hassle, straight-up, and to the point. Not to mention, they gave us a great deal on the price!!! They made the car buying process quick and painless, in fact, it was a very pleasant experience. He even offered to take care of us, if any issues happened after we purchased the car. Additionally, they recommended a cute cafe for us to eat at afterwards, which was delicious and another pleasant experience. Needless to say, it was well worth the long drive to Hutto, and we will definitely be purchasing our next car from them. It is rare to find genuine, honest, good people like John and Mike. I want to share my experience so other consumers are aware and can protect themselves…read more On January 23, 2026 I took possession of a vehicle from this dealership after placing a $2,100 down payment while financing was being finalized. When the bank did not approve the loan, I returned the vehicle on February 4, 2026 as instructed. I was told my down payment would be refunded minus the mileage I used. However, the dealership claimed I drove over 1,000 miles and deducted that amount from my refund. I have timestamped photo evidence showing the odometer reading 74,182 miles at the time I left the dealership. When I returned the vehicle, it showed only about 300 miles driven. The documentation the dealership provided to justify their numbers was a state inspection dated December 27, 2025. I didn't even step foot on their lot to look at vehicles until January 19th. They also deducted a $150 detailing fee even though the vehicle was not clean when I picked it up and had liquid leaking inside the car. I was told to return to the dealership for a detailing but it never happened before returning the vehicle. After weeks of trying to resolve this directly, the dealership said they mailed my refund check. When it arrived, the check had the wrong name, was misspelled, and was not dated, so the bank refused to accept it. I am still attempting to resolve this situation and have filed a formal complaint with the BBB. I recommend that anyone doing business here take photos of the odometer and keep copies of all paperwork.
