Stunning room, but one of the worst dinning experiences I've ever had. We spent a fortune on the top items, from a $250 tomahawk to the $70 pastas. Food took 90 minutes, server disappeared for 40 minutes and pasta was a pile of mush when it arrived. Manager's response was "we're busy," but the room was only half filled and other tables got in and out before us. This restaurant is located inside of the 1 Hotel and $20 valet parking is necessary because there is no other place to park. On arrival the valet didn't really help, I had to get out of the car and try to make eye contact to be acknowledged. You have to walk through the hotel a bit to get to the restaurant and go down a set of stairs to the hostess. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the restaurant is absolutely stunning and more beautiful in person. Pictures do not do it justice. I ordered the chicken pita with fries and my husband the burger and fries for lunch. Honestly the food was good but nothing to wow about. The staff and scenery are what made this experience memorable. I would definitely recommend and I plan to come back to try something different. I ordered their tenderloin and did not taste any seasoning on it whatsoever. It came with an arugula salad that was completely plain, literally just arugula leaves. Honestly I was angry so I sent it back. At the price point they are charging I really expect the food to be tasty. Also the steak was incredibly overcooked. Finally, a steak with a few leaves of arugula is underwhelming. I was taken aback that it didn't come with any sides. So, I sent it back and just ordered their rosemary fries. They tasted fine but were very ordinary and I am pretty sure the Parmesan was from a can. My boyfriend's snapper was a 6/10. It was decent but understated and a pretty basic curry sauce. Spicy Kona crab rigatoni which had a great kick loved all the fresh crab on top Brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful super tasty . Ending with the pineapple crème brûlée great we shared with three but definitely could have gotten my own and devoured if we didn't get entree heavy. I then started with the sourdough bread rolls, SO GOOD. Save a couple to go with your dinner, trust me on this. Then ordered the Spicy Kona Crab pasta... probably the best dish I've ever had! For our main course, we had the seafood paella served over the best rice. Lots of protein on the paella- shrimp, scallops, chicken, calamari, and Portuguese sausage. So yummy . Tonight we were expecting exemplary food and service at 1 Kitchen, and it fell short. It has received rave reviews on Yelp and was highly recommended to us by friends who frequent Kauai. We had a 5:30pm reservation. Although we showed up early, we were asked to wait till 5:30. So we headed to the bar. The Princeville Mai Tai was superb. At the appointed time, we were escorted by our server to our outdoor table and the incredible view. Our server who has been with the restaurant since it opened was friendly and engaging. The Sourdough Pull-Apart bread and the Wagyu Meatballs were exceptionally tasty. The Shoots & Labne salad was incredible. I told our server that I'm a big fan of Ahi, but her endorsement for the Kanpachi, which is often hard to find on a menu, made it the obvious choice. I was told it was a 13-ounce serving, which didn't seem daunting to me, given my love for seafood. I will say the $72 serving could have fed several, but it lacked the moisture I would have expected. It was dry. As the evening passed, it was rare to see our server, less to have her stop by our table to check on us. After I had gotten half-way thru the fish, John, the restaurant's new manager, stopped by. We had pleasant conversation about our Midwestern roots and I was trying to explain the fish was underwhelming. Unfortunately, he was called away and never returned. After my half-eaten fish had sat on the table for 20-25 minutes, a runner came by to ask if we wanted it boxed. We declined. At this point, we were done for the evening. No dessert, no final after dinner cocktail. What surprised me was our server's absence, especially for such a renown restaurant. I can't tell if they were short staffed or what. Is everyone OK??? We came here due to the reviews. We had the worst food here in our lives. Here's what we ordered: We ordered appetizers first before ordering any entrées since we wanted to figure it out along the way. Mind you we were starving so things should've tasted better, however, it was so disappointing that we didn't even want to order any entrées after our starters. -Sourdough Pull apart (the only edible thing here) -Wagyu Meatballs (taste was OK, but it was really cold as if they had it in the fridge and just took it out and served it to us since it was also super fast after we ordered that it came out) -Fingerling Potatoes (the 2nd edible thing here) -Eggplant (it was disgusting, we made a comment to the waiter that again. It was cold and it tasted like nothing. The texture was also really weird. I'm not even kidding you I literally thought that they had given this to another person and perhaps they didn't like it so they gave it to us because it was just so stale as if it was just sitting there. And I love eggplant, it's my favorite and was so disappointed that they couldn't get this right.) -carrot (see comment above eggplant very similar thoughts) -rigatoni (we couldn't even eat this, it smelled and tasted like acid) I will say the server was very kind and nice for trying to give us more items to try, and at that point we were already so tired it was about 9:30pm aka 12:30am our CA time so we just wanted to get out of there and pay without a fuss. However, I did wanna note that he didn't seem surprised; as if this sort of thing happened all the time to because he quickly just nodded after we gave our comment like he's heard it 100 times before. We come to Kauai every year and it was our first time trying this place but never again are we ever going back to this restaurant. We had stayed with a couple friends in Kauai and they had mentioned that it was known to not have great food by the locals. They had recommended the terrace restuarant (upstairs) to us the next day which we were so hesitant to go to just because of this bad experience that we had. All of that with tip was $122, we also got 2 non alcoholic drinks. You're basically paying for the view, but that's it. Next time I would just get a drink and nothing else if I wanted to just look at the scenery. It's a known fact that Kauai North Shore does not have great food and this feeds the stigma. read more

I stayed in this amazing hotel for a week for my honeymoon. I booked this thru Costco travel package. Truly a relaxing and luxurious stay!! The hotel has a premium look. We got the ocean view room. Waking up listening to the ocean waves every day was very relaxing! We had daily food credit and so ended up dining every day here. The food tasted amazingg!! It is definitely pricey but the quality was worth it. My favs were the lemon Ricotta pancake, kanpachi fish, beef burger, pizzas and zaatar fries from Sandbox. The drinks were really nice too!! I had made a reservation for our 20th wedding anniversary. Our reservation was for 7:30 PM, but we had hiked the first 2 miles of the Kalalau Trail, that day and were pretty exhausted and hungry! We decided to take a chance and go there by 6 PM to see if we could get an earlier table. They seated us immediately, for which we were very grateful. The weird thing about our table, even though it had these gorgeous expansive views, was that there was another table less than 3 feet away from us (in the path of our view) where the gentleman decided to change his seat location and instead of looking out at the ocean decided to angle himself so that he was staring right at us most of our meal. Regardless, we received excellent service, cocktails and food were delicious. OK, now onto the food. The catch of the day was Kanpachi -- I've never seen such a giant piece of fish be served before. It was flawlessly cooked, and perfectly seasoned with a delectably crisped skin and because of the surface area, every bite we cut into had smoke escaping from it. Every morsel was delicious. The 12oz of grilled NY strip steak was perfectly medium rare and well seasoned - I loved that they brought us some kosher salt to the table for us to adjust the flavor to our palate. The steak sauce, my husband loved it. I did not need it. The server paired our meal with the appropriate wines and they were perfect. There was so much food that we ended up splitting the steak, eating a half of the fish between the two of us and took the rest back to the resort for breakfast the next morning. Even with reheating in the microwave it was tender and absolutely delicious. The only thing that I'm disappointed about, even though it's not something I can't fault them with is that I read so many reviews of the staff making a big deal out of celebration moments, so I went with a little bit of an expectation. While the hostess wished us -- nothing else was done about it. We've been to restaurants all over the world during birthdays and anniversaries and we always get either a comped dessert or even a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. So I would be lying if I didn't say I was slightly disappointed. None of that distracts from the fact that the meal was absolutely excellent and our second favorite meal on this trip to Kauai. So the only slight issue was the weird seating arrangement where we felt a little like we were on display with the table in front of us head on in our direction less than 3 feet away. read more
