30+ year Kauai resident and this was our first time at Moa Moa. Our server, AG, was very nice and accommodating, and the wine selection was good. The entrees were the highlight of the meal. I had the mahi mahi, my husband had the filet mignon, and we split the arugula salad--each of those dishes was excellent. Our friends shared the pasta and really enjoyed it as well. Unfortunately, the appetizers and dessert were disappointing. I wouldn't recommend the firecracker shrimp; it was soggy and there was no "fire" or kick at all. We also tried the oysters, which we were told were fresh from Washington State, but they didn't smell or taste fresh to us, and they were so large we couldn't eat them. Dessert was another miss--the chocolate torte was dry and tasted like cardboard. One other issue: the wind was whipping through the restaurant the entire time, making it uncomfortably cold. We ended up wearing our raincoats throughout dinner, which really took away from the experience. Overall, great service and strong entrees, but the temperature/wind problem and the uneven appetizer/dessert quality would make us think twice about returning. read more

Right from the beginning the Hostess Would not seat us 5 minutes earlier for our reservation with nearly no one in the restaurant. Then our Server Art had a response to my question about the fish i asked how is that prepared he said "I'm not going to get into the scientific definition of how it is prepared " I was flabbergasted after spending over 40 years in the hospitality industry I've never had such rude service. The manager tried to make up for him and sometime later into service he came and apologized my guess is she made him. The food was good. Came here for dessert since I saw that had a gluten free chocolate cake on the menu. Wow was it fantastic! It comes with fresh strawberries, a scoop of delicious ice cream and some very heavy (possibly homemade?) whipped cream. I told them to leave the coulis off since it's not usually my thing. There were even chocolate chips on the side. The cake was so flavorful and rich and everything around it was so good too. Definitely a split-able large portion too. Staff were amazing and their tea is top notch too. My one small criticism was there there was a bit of frost bite somewhere in the dish, as I noticed ice crystals in a few bites (probably the ice cream) but overall the dish was still wonderful. read more

Parking was a little bit troublesome, but finally finally found one, we had a special that was seared blackened tuna, and two scallops. The scallops were salted salted salted with finishing salt. It was miserable to eat, but they did take 10% off for the way overly salted salted salted scallops. But the tuna was amazing! We sat outside by the fire and it was romantic. We went for the Valentine's Day prefix menu special. Overall we had a lovely time. The food was well prepared and the ambiance was nice, but there were a few hiccups. 1. We were seated next to a common area, so while trying to have a romantic dinner we had quite a few families walking by our table. If you can imagine families on vacation, you know what it was like. 2. The fish house, which has only one pork option on their main menu, served pork on their prefix. Now, I take full responsibility for not calling and checking beforehand, and I definitely will from now on, but I would have appreciated knowing ahead of time (the prefix menu wasnt posted anywhere) or at least given an option. I hadnt eaten pork in over 10 years before that night, but felt compelled to eat it in order to respect the life of the animal and avoid having the meat thrown away. Another couple seated near us complained about the same thing. Had I seen the menu beforehand and understood there were no substitutions, I would have gone elsewhere. 3. Service suddenly slowed down to a crawl in the middle of the dinner. Not sure what happened but other couples came and went as we sat for just over two hours. The waiter came by in a fast walk at one point and snagged our empty wine glasses, but didnt offer to bring us anything else. We would have each had at least one more beverage. Oh well. It was a long time, even for Valentines day, for us to sit and stare at each other with no food or drink. I also had to ask for the check. I kind of wanted to bring those items to the attention of the restaurant as all were very easy fixes. Otherwise it was a great night, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. I would like to start off with the fact the food was great. I ordered the Mahi Mahi and it was outstanding, and the desserts (cheesecake and lava flow cake) were great. The atmosphere was weird. There was no one in the restaurant but yet they insisted we make reservations online. Then, when other guests show up, they clump us together in one area meaning we are all able to hear what the others are talking about. Awkward for sure. I could not tell if the staff were passive aggressive or friendly. At one point, the staff member refilling waters told my cousin how amazed she was at his clean plate. "Cleanest plate she has ever seen". He's 15 years old and growing as you read this. Confused on if this was passive aggressive or not but it would be great if we could eat in peace and watch the sunset, not focus on details like what does the staff want to say next. Overall, good food but not the best place. read more

This place had such glowing reviews online we were really looking forward to eating here tonight. When we called we asked for a table around 8. They told us the earliest we could come in was around 8:15 to 8:30 when we said 8:15 the host again pushed back between 8:15 and 8:30. Not a big deal if we had to wait till 8:30 but we wanted to be curious of the fact they close at 9. When we did get to the restaurant there was only 1 table in the place full. The server was clearly preoccupied with closing duties and didn't do much to serve our table but she did recommend the Filet and Mahi Mahi as her favorite dishes so we ordered both. A while into waiting for food I asked for bread since it had not been brought to our table even though the tables were set with bread plates with little butter knives. Server seemed shocked and quickly grabbed some. Water was also let to be empty. The drinks were bad but even when empties no refills were offered. Appetizer came out quick and was good. It earned its one star. However, the Filet while advertised with a butter medallion and show online with butter came with just the Demi sauce. Steak was tender but the flavor seemed very off. Probably because it was missing the butter medallion that would have mixed with the Demi sauce. Mahi Mahi was just okay. Not what you expect from a meal that's over $50. Now let's talk about the ambiance! This was the end of the night and the table that was there when we got there left relatively quickly. Part of this was our long day and late dinner. However, they were the ones who had us come in as late as we did. The music playing was so low we couldn't even hear it. What we could hear was the waitress talking with another worker while they did closing duties and the kitchen that was clearly still working on things for other restaurants and cleanup around the hotel. They were dumping dishes, talking loudly and having "kitchen talk" if you know anything about a kitchen you know that means it included a lot of loud cussing and not what you want in a nice restaurant setting. Ordered the Hawaiian spice and a Pina Colada. Worst drinks we have had on the island in the week we have been here. The Luau on the same property had better drink offerings from its open bar. The buffet food at the Luau was also better. At the end of the night I paid the check and decided to ask the waitress if the streak (that she said was her favorite) normally comes without the butter that it's advertised with or if it was just a bad night? She couldn't answer me and said she would go ask. We left before she came back with an answer but nothing says you are recommending the most expensive thing on the menu with no real opinion on it like not even knowing how it's served. Absolute worst meal experience of our trip. We laughed at how long the McDonald's line was while we were walking to the restaurant. We should have just went to McDonald's. Including an updated menu and drink menu since neither seem to be posted online and they are not nearly what is currently posted on Yelp. read more

Easily one of the best meals we had on the island! We sat outside and the ambiance was so relaxing with the breeze and tiki torches. This is a restaurant inside the Sheraton hotel. The food was good although a bit expensive. It is held in the same area as the breakfast is served in the morning so we were a little confused when we showed up. The reason that I am giving a five star review is because of Art. Art was the most magical server, and was so kind and attentive, and went beyond to make our experience lovely. I would highly recommend going here if just to hang out with Art for the evening. Decided to give the restaurant in the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort and was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted and seated upon arrival. Customer service was great. There's QR codes for the menu in the elevators and the paper they give you when you check in so you can plan but they do give you a menu at the restaurant as well. Fresh, modern beach decor, comfortable for dinner with friends, family or by yourself. Food was great especially the MP fish special. Fine dining by the ocean with excellent flavors and friendly service. Moamoa is located in the Sheraton Kapaa. The self parking was easy as the lot is very large. The likikoi butter with bread is so good! The kids wanted seconds of that. We ordered the Mac nut crusted mahi mahi, pomegranate scallops, pineapple curry, and kids' sliders. We wrapped up dinner with the flourless chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert. We can't wait to come back and try the lilikoi mochi cheesecake next time. Had a little staycation at the Marriott Coconut beach and we ended up coming in for dinner since we were staying on property. I was surprised by the great find! The Steak Frittes with bok choy was excellent. Lots of flavor and so tender. Could've used a few more pieces of veg though... little lacking there. But the ceviche with taro chips made up for it because it was my absolute fave. So yum and refreshing. I could definitely eat that everyday. But what made this dinner even better was the great service. Our server Celeste and hostess Cheyna were both so friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back! read more

A decent option located inside the Sheraton Coconut Beach hotel (previously a Courtyard) that looks out towards the pool area. Let's start with the good - the food was mostly good, the highlights being the daily catch (Ono with a Macadamia nut crust on white rice, asparagus and a pineapple sauce) and the strawberry tiramisu (all though calling this tiramisu was a stretch, it was still tasty). The ahi with using noodles and bok choy could have been better, but it was quite cold when we received it for whatever reason. And the shrimp wraps as an appetizer were serviceable but really nothing special. The service was surprisingly poor considering how slow the restaurant was. Our waiter was focusing on his large tables and we had long gaps between drinks and between our starter and main course. For whatever reason there is a large walkway through the center of the restaurant and while we sat outside there were hotel guests constantly walking by us in their swimware which is odd at a fancy restaurant. read more

Meh... Two Kauai locals tried really hard to like this place... not sure how you can mess up Mahi-mahi. And whomever makes the cocktails obviously doesn't drink - worse drink I've ever had! Also had breakfast - nothing special... really looking for a good "go-to" breakfast place - this was not it... Basic egg plate was okay, but the Avocado toast was full of salad/radishes and nothing special... (the Bloody Mary's were really thick, disgusting & undrinkable). I had a great experience here while in Kauai. The Mahi Mahi Ceviche was fantastic and they serve Hawaiian sweet rolls with this housemade butter that is incredible. Our room here at the coconut Sheraton has a beautiful view of the ocean and the pool. This property is beautiful. Celeste at moa moa is fantastic. Excellent service and excellent food. We eat with our eyes first and our first course which was a caramelized mushroom dish was looked like tiny rafts floating down a beautiful sea of green arugula and micro greens. The flavor was so buttery and slightly sweet at the same time. Our second course was a macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi with broccolini and are you ready? Mashed purple sweet potatoes!! A rainbow of deliciousness! And if that wasn't enough , we had the most courteous, attentive and gracious server named Art. We learned so much about his culture and his love of family that by the end of our meal we felt like we were part of his family by the way he treated us. Before we left there were hugs all around. I don't review often and usually only when I am really impressed unexpectedly. I have been to Kauai many times and dined at many of the more well know restaurants such as Merrimans, Roy's Eating House 1849, Red Salt, Plantation Gardens, La Spezia Restaurant, Brennecke's, Duke's, The Dolphin, Bar Acuda, and Nanea. My meal at Moamoa was just as good as any of those. From the taro rolls, to the Kauai salad, to the ono special with rice, asparagus, and tangy mango sauce; the quality was excellent and the flavors very complementary. I also very much enjoyed my tropical cocktail (tequila, mango, lime, jalapeño). Looking out over the pool and ocean but away from the more crowded resort areas, the setting is a great balance of chill but not sleepy. read more
