Best pho I had in a long time. Authentic vibes. I ordered take out and usually I don't like Pho t/o but this was delicious! The server was by herself and it was extremely busy. She did everything with a smile and was so polite. You could see here sprinting from table to kitchen to register. I Honestly applaud her. Can't wait to dine in just to tip her. (I did tip takeout but check wasn't that much obvi) The restaurant was clean as well. Which can be hard to find in Hilo tbh so all in all this is a great place to dine. Went here because I was sick and desperate for Pho, and this was the closest to me. Prices have gone up since most of the menu pics, so I was rather surprised when I got the bill. It's now 10.95 for a bowl of beef pho. It was decent, nothing particularly special, but wasn't bad. Good enough for when you're sick I guess. I was pleasantly surprised at how positive and inviting it was to go into a restaurant and not feel anxious, especially with Covid-19 being a part of our daily lives while out in public. There isn't much decor at 1 Plus 1 Cafe and the setup of the tables are all along the walls, with bigger tables in the middle of the room for larger parties. Right when you walk in you're greeted by a huge fish tank with little tiny fish inside. They're for decoration only. This kind of confuses me. Since this is the only decoration in the restaurant, why didn't they put more effort into making it look nice? Oh well. The service is friendly and we get our food fairly quickly. Some of my favorites to dine on are the crab and cream cheese rangoons (like won tons), spring rolls, chicken lettuce cups, and sweet sour chicken. Also, their boba teas are very delicious and smooth. I can't find too much fault in this place, but compared to other restaurants that serve similar food, 1 Plus 1 Cafe is just okay for me. Today, I decided to give it another shot since I had a personal event to celebrate and really wanted some roast pork and fried squid. This was the only place that was open at 2:30pm on a Thursday. To celebrate my personal event, I placed a large order for 5 items, including roast pork, crispy Peking duck, And my calamari. I sent my husband to pick up the food while I stayed home with my baby. Well, I got everything except the calamari!! I instead received everything PLUS a 5th tray of bao buns and extra duck! I called them to explain and they kept insisting that the person who took my order wrote down all the other items but no calamari -- OBVIOUSLY! That Is why I called. I asked to get refund for the extra food that I DID NOT ORDER but still unfairly got charged for. Smh... They just kept repeating that I basically got charged for what I got. This is one of my family's go to places to get a quick bite to eat in Hilo. Some of our favorite dishes are the salt and pepper shrimp, pho, summer rolls, and garlic eggplant. They fry the salt and pepper shrimp so perfectly you can just pop them in your mouth like candy! Most of their vegetables come stir fried with plenty of garlic, so beware! The restaurant is tucked away near Office Max, but they have a steady flow of customers all day long. This is a great choice if you're too lazy to cook but don't want to break the bank. read more

Who woulda thought that after ten years this place would have fallen so far. My last review wasn't the most positive, but now I can definitively say "Don't come here". For nostalgic reasons a friend and I stopped by 1+1 and it was a mess from the very start. The waitress ignored us and we wound up having to ask for both a menu and water ten minutes after sitting down. I got the duck noodle soup and my friend got lettuce cups. It only took about five minutes for our food to come out and this quickness definitely showed in the sloppiness of our dishes. My soup was lukewarm with dry and flavorless duck, and worst of all, the noodles were still hard. The lettuce was wilted and looked as though it hadn't been washed. We both wound up eating less than half of our food and I left incredibly disappointed. I used to come here weekly as a kid and I genuinely thought it was a good dining spot, but now it's become practically inedible. I know this wasn't just a single instance either since I asked my mom and her friends about 1+1 and they said they'd stopped going because of how bad it'd become. The summer rolls taste fine, but mine weren't wrapped that tightly so they fell apart easily. I muchhh prefer Hilo Rice Noodle & surprisingly, Coqui's Hideaway's summer rolls! The bubble tea here is a nay for me. I got strawberry. It was really watery, liquidy, and the tapioca was super mushy. Hilo Rice Noodle's bubble tea is also better. The broth was so delish, real roasted pork/duck intense flavor with a subtle hint of anise/5spice... Although both proteins tend to run on the fatty side, the essence of the soup was not overwhelmingly oily. The double noodle was overkill though and I had to give some away to everyone else at the table. I ran out of broth and requested for just a wee bit more pls... they were very happy to oblige. A nice cup size broth came out pipping hot, making my meal even more ONO! I'm not a big duck fan, but I really enjoyed the soup. The hubs ordered their grilled beef and chicken w/ onions rice plate; came w/ small side salad drizzled w/ a sweet chili/French dressing to it. Meat was nice and tender. My bro-in-law ordered their ginger/garlic chicken... white boiled tender chicken topped of w/ very palate pleasing and aromatic blend of chopped ginger/garlic and some fresh green onions. Their fresh spring rolls were yummy as well. We came for lunch and it was BUSY even for Hilo on a Thursday late nooner. It's pretty cheap, around 45 bucks for all our meals w/ iced tea and soda... Service is great - friendly, helpful, really really accommodating servers... and they do hustle... they tag-team all the tables. making sure to keep all their customers happy... filling half-filled water glasses and tea cups, and bring requested essential eating utensils/sauces. It's one of the more ONO places to eat in the area, even w/ surrounding competitors in the food court. I know why now... Parking is a BEEOTCH!!!... along side ROSS and Walmart and neighboring restaurants/shops... hungry/irate locals will snatch your spot if you're not paying attention. LOL read more

Sending back my food is something I hate having to do, but my plate of veggies that comes with the pho, the lemon clearly had a hair and dirt on it. Easy fix right? Just throw away the lemon and replace it with a clean slice. Well, I told the waitress and she brought me back the same exact plate of vegetables, hair and dirt included!!! She obviously thought I was stupid and believed that I wouldn't notice. So I sent it back and said never mind the vegetables. Then another waitress comes and serves me the pho I ordered. OK let me take that back, the spring rolls were HUGE and decent, the lo mein tasty but the hands down winner was the roasted duck. Holy crap, it was cooked to perfection. No restaurant in SF gets that close. The skin was crispy, the meat tender and soft. So so so good. They serve food family style, and we had enough food left over for an entire lunch the next day. Prices are affordable and there is plenty of room for families. Located in the busy Hilo mall next to Wal-Mart, you can expect higher prices for their items. But higher prices doesn't mean better quality. Service, in my opinion, was friendly and quick. Immediately brought a menu and order was taken quickly. The food doesn't take very long, but the two times I patronized this establishment I chose to avoid the crowd being one of three tables. The food is not impressive. I ordered the summer rolls which took just as long as the pho to get to my table. The shrimp was paper thin and pork overcooked. The peanut sauce was salty and consumed my flavor pallet. I also very quickly ate the combination beef pho which wasn't impressive at all. The meat slices were thin and scarce. The tendons and tripe were paper thin and were even more elusive to find in the bland broth. The only redeeming quality was that the noodles were "al dente" - which is a personal preference. Water refills were not offered so drink sparingly unless you want to wave someone down. Overall, the price for the food doesn't match up; essentially, the flavor/portion was equally disappointing. OH - OH The last take out order items dropped their trusted quality control based on my own scale down a bit. Had ordered these before on multiple occasions so I already know how they should be. Didn't order my favorite duck and had clear noodle dry pho and the liquid soup broth wasn't even hot enough to cook the shrimp and the veggies weren't fresh and the meat tasted freezer burnt. Had to microwave the broth a while to get it hot enough and the shrimp might have been old too based on taste. The other chicken pho with thin white noodle was a bit slimy (reminds me of somen noodles when they are overcooked and left soaking too long) and am unsure if it's due to being just overcooked or old and the lemon didn't seem to be a fresh piece. Overall taste for both had changed compared to before and they used to be fantastic but last time they simply weren't as flavorful as they used to be. I always get the garlic shrimp and an order of eight crab rangoons. They both have a particular taste that is always yummy and filling. I must admit, it took me a while to find something that I like to eat at this place. I used to get BBQ Chicken and Beef, but the first time I got it, I was expecting more of the L&L style of BBQ Chicken, but their BBQ chicken is less oily. I drink water fast, but they don't walk around to refill often. Most times you need to wave someone down. Food is served reasonably fast, depending on what you order and how busy they are. read more
