READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE HIRING DENNIS!!! I came here for a diagnostic. My vehicle was making noise and I paid Dennis his Diagnostic Fee. He hooked his computer to my vehicle and said it's a misfire. He told me he would check the spark plugs and he would call me when he was done. Dennis called about an hour and a half later. He said he checked the spark plugs and they were fine. He said I need a new engine. I was not satisfied with his diagnosis and drove to a second mechanic. This second shop diagnosed the problem and fixed it for a couple hundred dollars. BUT HERE'S THE REASON FOR THE NEGATIVE REVIEW. The 2nd mechanic showed me the spark plugs. They WERE NOT fine as Dennis said. In fact, the spark plug wires were completely fried!! Which Dennis would have seen if he even looked, let alone remove them to test the plugs, as he said he did. So Dennis LIED!!! TOOK MY MONEY AND DID NOT DO THE SERVICE HE CHARGED FOR. I am attaching a photo for proof. PLEASE! Go to an honest mechanic and not one who charges you money for a service he clearly didn't perform. read more

On 10/16/2024, I drove my 1986 Mazda B2000 pickup truck to Dennis Lam, owner of 1 Stop Smog and Repair at 13142 Golden West St., Westminster, CA 92683 for a smog check. However, insteadof performing a regular smog test for my vehicle, Dennis intentionally altered the timing of the vehicle by moving the ignition distributor from its original location, which caused the engine to run rough (engine misfire) and fail the smog check. Dennis purposely made my vehicle fail smog to tack on fraudulent upcharges and tried to trick me into replacing my vehicle's carburetor for over$1000, which I refused. On 10/23/2024, another smog shop performed the truck's smog check and it passed the smog test without replacing the carburetor. Dennis is just an unscrupulous businessman read more

I have to agree to stay away from this place. I was local and saw a coupon special and wanted to see if they would honor it. If they know you are using a coupon, they will try to fail you somehow, so you will have to pay double. Of course, I passed everything, but they failed my visual inspection saying my CARB legal intake didn't match my car, which it did. I argued with them saying I never had an issue with any other smog places but refused. Do yourself a favor and find another place. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. They lured you in with coupons of very good prices, but you will pay dearly for it. First of all, if you fail the smog check, they will NOT give you a free retest like other places. You must PAY to retest; and they will KNITPICK to fail you, just so you pay them extra for retest. I have always had silicone vacuum hose on all my cars, and I have never failed a smog check UNTIL NOW. They claimed that I TAMPERED with the sensors by using silicone vacuum hose. It turns out to be total BS. I contacted the California Air Resource Board and CARB said there is no rule against silicone vacuum hose. I am now weighing my options including a Small Claims Court lawsuit. Be very careful dealing with these guys. read more

I only went here for a smog check, but it was a good experience. The staff was very friendly...I was greeted as soon as I walked in even though they were all working on something (something you don't always see at mechanic shops). They have coupons on Pennysaver and on their front counter. The whole process for the smog check was less than 15 mins. The shop is located behind the Arco gas station and you can drive in from either Goldenwest or Natal Drive. I would recommend this place. read more

I stopped by on a Saturday at 9am and got serviced immediately. It was a quick Star approved Smog check location. I showed the coupon I found online and it was $35 which included the electronic certificate to the state. I noticed the certificate didn't state STAR location so hope State doesn't question the certificate. He also accepted a credit card for the service. read more

Came here 10 til 8 am last Sat to do the smog service check. Great that I didn't have to wait til 8 am on the dot....Had a smog coupon for $21.75 fr. the PennysaverUsa. They have their own coupon which you can print out...They have a "Get FREE check engine light diagnostic" coupon w/ no purchase necessary which is great unlike other places that charge a fee. Dennis was nice and the service was quick - less than 15 min. Would come back here for their other car services. Plus nice to know that they have Free Shuttle service and competitors advertised price matching! Dennis & the gang have been so helpful in the past! Went here for a smog check and then some time later an oil change. They have low prices and honored a coupon I brought it that had expired. They're thorough and friendly and checked some extra stuff out on my car for no additional cost. Quick and efficient! 20 mins for an oil change. Check them out! Part of the gas station on the corner across from Sbux. To find them, go to the second door (one after the small gas station store). EDIT: They failed to tighten my oil filter and I have been leaking oil ever since. Oil seems to have spilled all into my starter and it's gummed up and now I'm stuck in a parking lot. Awesome. Go somewhere where they can manage an oil change. Fail. read more

This place has gone downhill. About 2 years ago, I went in for a smog check and it went fine. This last visit; however, was a disaster. I showed up with a coupon from smogtips.com, a site that they actively advertise on. When I arrived, the dude behind the counter who I assume was the owner, was too busy eating his sandwich to even acknowledge my presence. I asked him about how the coupon works and he didn't even look up at me. I looked over at the mechanic and asked what was up and if he had heard of the coupon. I literally asked "do you guys know about the coupon or are you just playing dumb?" When walking to the car, the mechanic felt the need to educate me that they are not playing dumb and instead they don't mention discounts unless a customer brings it up. I said, is it your policy to ignore paying customers that enter your business and treat them like an inconvenience while you eat your sandwich? After a few seconds of awkwardness, I immediately sensed that I should bail. If I continued, I didn't trust them with the test. I felt the possibility they could dream up some problem or fail the car or who knows what. Why give these them money when there are 20,000 smog check places in SoCal. I said "you know what? forget it. I'm done here. thanks." and drove off. I'd rather pay more elsewhere with decent service than give these clowns a dime. My Tesla Model 3 can't come soon enough. I was recommended by a friend to give this place a visit. Once I was there, the technician came out and greet me. He ask me what I needed help with and I told him that I needed a smog check. He made me filled out my info, then after I realized it, my smog check was done. It wasn't a hassle and it was quicker than the last time I did my smog check. read more

Worst service ever! We were asked to come back in 30 min. Then asked to wait for another 15, then mechanic said we needed to wait over an hour! When we complained, he told us to go find another place if we can't wait, coz we won't find anyone that would do it like he would with the kind of need our van needed. We felt totally uncomfortable and manipulated. Unbelievable and horrible! I would not even give it a 1 star. Then we found Blue Sky Smog, 14511 Brookhurst St. Westminster and was so impressed with the swift and efficient service ever! Best of all, it was a better value in money. Sam was amazing! read more

Don't be fool by the $21.95 coupon. Because your vehicle will fail the first test, so they will charge you again for the second test! My late model (2010) vehicle failed the first test because the " Engine was not Warm Enough ", had to drive around the block for 10 mins to pass the second test. Obviously, it passed this time. So effectively, paid double the price and ended twice as long for the entire process. Called Sacramento to report the unscrupulous practice. read more

These guys have a coupon and when you get there they say come back in 20 minutes. Make you wait longer then don't even honor their coupons. Specifically Dennis is the dishonorable person I spoke to. You have other choices. Go somewhere else. read more
