Today is a bit of a bittersweet moment. After about 6 years of loyal customer service and about $15,000 later between two cars, it was time for me to call it quits on repairing my Silverado... I don't feel bad blood or any sketchy feelings toward anybody at the shop. I just feel it's dumb luck and just plain bad luck on my part for having such a faulty truck. Everybody at the shop has done an amazing job helping me out. Will at the front counter is an amazing person who goes above and beyond to do whatever he can to make the pricing work for you.. Trey is an amazing technician who knows exactly what he's doing and sends detailed videos and reporting of everything he inspects. Unfortunately my truck started leaking and it was a faulty water pump. The same water pump I replaced 4 years ago at the exact location here at autolink. Again, I don't feel any sketchy feelings. I don't feel any kind of way. I just feel frustrated that the same water pump would go out after 4 years. I feel like something like that just doesn't happen. Even with that, I'm in a position in my life where I can't and don't have the resources to do anything further with this vehicle. About 2 weeks ago, maybe three. I replaced the complete brake system in my vehicle and it cost me about $2,000. Today I got the estimate for the water pump repair and it was $1,500. This is on the higher end of any shop repair. Again? I feel it's worth it because of the work they do, but to be honest, I feel something more should have been done to either prevent the water pump from breaking down again or getting some kind of warranty for that water pump that just happened to break down once again after 4 years. In the back of my mind, I can't stop thinking about the fact that something like this just doesn't happen that often. Water pumps don't break down that often. Anyway, that aside again, I hold no bad feelings toward this shot because I highly recommend them to everybody. They are on the higher end of the pricing ever since they started getting more clientele and more business. That is something that is to be expected I guess. Even with that, they were able to bring down the price significantly, and I appreciated it ever so much. At the same time I had to explain that at this time in my life I I can't and will not continue to repair this truck. I picked up the truck from the shop, drove it home and it's going to be sitting in my driveway for a few months until I figure out what I'm going to do with it. I have to save money to fix it because I do want to keep it and pass it down to my kid because after $15,000 worth of repairs I think it's pretty much brand new and should hold up for my son for a few years. Thank you everybody at the shop, Jay, will, Trey all the mechanics that I haven't met. They are detailed and explain what needs to be done with great reporting and paperwork. I will not be going back for a while. I'm going to save up some money. Get a new car and when the time comes I'm going to fix the truck and pass it down to my kid when he's old enough to drive. But I am seriously done with this truck. It has been nothing but a money pit. Again, I hold no bad blood, no hard feelings toward anybody at the shop. Walked in here on Thursday my car was shaking they gave me a loaner car they called me the next day Friday which was yesterday the black lady Natalie tried to rip me off telling me I need to get a diagnostic test which is $340 !!! And I had very little oil in my car I told her just do a oil change she than told me it was going to be safe to drive my car she is worried about me and I should pay for the testing ! I told her NO I'll go to the dealer ship why the hell did I pick my car up after a simple oil change they did and my car was fine !!!! My family and I have been coming here for a few years now--even through the change in ownership--and the service continues to be excellent. I recently worked with William and he was amazing! I came in for an oil change and to have my car fully inspected, and they were super thorough. They walk you through everything your car needs and even help with financing options, which is helpful because car repairs can really add up. One thing that stood out: if your car is going to take all day or a few days, they'll cover your Uber. I've never seen that before! The shop itself is super clean, and they offer complimentary coffee and water. This is definitely a great spot for car maintenance. I'll start by saying that I am a procrastinator. I wait to get something fixed until it is ABSOLUTELY necessary and there is no way around it. With that being said, I went in for a routine oil change and asked them to changed a headlight bulb that was out and I needed new wiper blades as well. I dropped off the truck and received a follow up call a few hours later explaining to me a previous existing issue with the wiring of the REAR tail lights. I completely forgot that I had said I would see about maybe getting it taken care of the "next time" I went in for an oil change. Well, today was that "next time" and not only did I have faulty wiring in the rear tail lights, but also faulty wiring on the headlights as well. All this after going in for a routine oil change. I'm not mad, it was to be expected; it's an older truck about 20 yrs old. I was not prepared for all the work that needed to be done and I was ready to postpone that work until the "next" oil change... but- They called me up and explained all my options, clearly explained all issues at hand and worked with me to get all the repairs done within my budget. I went to autolink not too long ago for a smog check. tldr; get a smog check at a smog check only place. there's no reason not to. Or you might find yourself arguing with a guy over why you don't need to pay $103 for a gas cap. let me describe my experience in complete detail since I received a text asking my for a review of my experience. The worker who helped me was a man who isn't the owner and isn't the one in glasses. So this review is for my time with him which was a little over an hour, an hour and a half give or take. I came around 1 pm on a weekday because I received a coupon in the mail for a $40 smog check and it was down the street from my house. It was about $20 off their regular prices so what could go wrong. I went in and the worker said it would take about 20-30 minutes. A little longer than I'm used to but that's no big deal. About 20 minutes in though, the front desk calls me out to see my car... ok here we go. He proceeds to show me my detached gas cap and tell me I need a replacement and I've failed the smog check and to make me look CLOSELY at a crack? He said they've already began ordering and retrieving my new gas cap in order to finish my smog check. I ask him a few times how much the cap was and he kept insisting that they're already on it which I found really frustrating. He finally brings me over to his computer and tells me how much it was. I was pretty sure there was nothing wrong with my cap but if they were gonna charge me $20 I'd just let it go because of the coupon if they just wanted to make the money back. BUT NO. He looked over and said with his chest $103. ONE HUNDRED AND THREE for a GAS CAP. I'm no car expert but in no world did I believe a toyota gas cap was $103. I told him I wasn't going to pay that but he said he was already ordering it and they already did my test. Were you just expecting me to pay that with no say? Bro what. I looked up the price of gas caps immediately and showed him it was only $20 on the toyota website and he said "but the SHIPPING AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT 7 DAYS!!" I don't know where he was ordering from that costed $83 for shipping but that's news to me. I refused to pay and he said I had 30 days to come back with a new gas cap or he would proceed to fail my smog test. He also made me pay the $40. I went straight to my local mechanic down the street after and I asked them to order me a new gas cap because I couldn't pass my smog test because of this guy. They said that doesn't sound right and went ahead and checked my car and told me there's nothing wrong with it and that my engine light wasn't on so there was no reason to not pass my car. Any other smog test place would have passed me and if he had given me my money back I wouldn't have ever came back again but I hope my $40 was worth it. I went back to Autolink in that same day and relayed that same message to the same front desk worker and he said "I had failed the visual test and (they) are very thorough here." I asked him if I were to take my car to any other smog place and they passed me would I get a refund and he said no, and THEN followed up with "can you 100% GUARANTEE you will pass, you don't have any report?" I told him I'll come back with a report if that'll get my money back and he told me to and I quote "to sit down, have a free coffee, have some free water, (he) doesn't want to make (my) life hard and to make me happy." oh. my. god. He runs another smog check on my car and this time he graces me with their gas cap and calls me out after 20 minutes again. (Can we just pass my car so I can leave please) He points to how they put their gas cap on and now I pass!!! THE VISUAL CHECK!! THE ONE WITH THEIR EYES!! YAY!! He then shows me two tests one where I "would have failed" (circled in pen) if we were to use my gas cap. He lectures me for a couple more minutes about how I need to replace my gas cap soon or my check engine light "COULD" "ONE DAY" go on. Honestly, I get the stereotype about car mechanics but if I'm driving a 14 year old beat down toyota can you not try to upsell me parts I don't need for $100. Would hate to see this predatory behavior be a normal practice here and in my community. and hope it's a one off thing. highly doubtful. update: he said it was if i ordered it myself it would be 7 days shipping to justify $103 :) and spoke down to me when i asked to understand why showing him the price of one. thanks for the free water. update 3/24/25: putting a full name, the make and model of my car and this whole response lacks professionalism and comes off as an intimidation tactic. read more
