They promise much shorter waiting times than they can deliver. After two hours of waiting and being nowhere near to being done, I got mad and called Chantos. He happened to be close, went straight to the warehouse to get my glass and was repairing my glass within 15 minutes of me calling him. I highly recommend 101 Auto Glass. I called around 11:00am, after talking to several other businesses. 101's price was the lowest by far and includes doing the work at your home. Chantos said he could be there between 2 - 3:00, and he arrived at 2:00 on the dot. Chantos was very thorough. I watched him scrape off all the old rubber around the window, clean everything thoroughly, and put on some sort of rust protector. He explained everything as he went along. The glass he used is Pilkington. I googled it and read a number of good reviews on the product. I did this after reading a few comments about using OEM glass, which did not seem necessary. As it turns out, Pilkington makes OEM glass for a number of car manufacturers. I feel like I got a good product, and from what I saw and read, a good installation job. Call 101 Auto Glass if you need a new windshield! He is a small business operator, one of the little guys we want to see staying in business. I had a chip on my windshield (thanks I-880) and needed it repaired ASAP before an offroad trip in the desert. I had called Auto Glass Express, but after scheduling a same-day appointment, they called me back an hour later and said they needed to reschedule, then called me back a half hour later and said I could come in after all. Someone threw a beer bottle at my windshield and it needed to be replaced. Chantos made the whole thing super easy. I called around to get quotes first and his was one of the cheepest, only $165 for a new windshield, and he was able to come by my house the same afternoon to install it, took him less than an hour. On top of that, he was friendly and honest and sympathetic. I could tell he felt for me. The previous person who installed my windshield hadn't sealed it properly and there was rust and water leakage at the edges. Chantos showed me where it was and told me I might need to take it to a body shop in a few years. I appreciated that he took the time to show me what was going on with my car and to explain what it would mean. He even cleaned my dashboard, and reinstalled my fast-track in exactly the same place. I went hiking with my preschool age child in Oakland - I know this sounds like the beginning of a really nice story that is unrelated to glass repair. BUT, when I returned to my car, my passenger window had been completely smashed and my purse (stored in the trunk) was stolen. Of course this was a couple of days before I was moving across the country. I was totally overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. I called my roadside assistance, but the best they would do was tow my car to the dealership. I called my dealership, and they said they couldn't fix the window for a couple of days (they needed to order the glass). I must have sounded hysterical, because the dealership called me back and suggested that I call 101 Auto Glass. I could not drive my car - it was completely unsafe due to the glass everywhere. A friend came, drove me around, and helped me dropped my child at her preschool. Our car (BMW X3) got broken into last night. I contacted 101 Auto Glass to have our rear passenger window fixed. They found a glass for the car immediately, and were scheduled to come do the repair later today. As it turned out something else got broken, we had to take the car to the shop and they offered to fix the window as a package deal, so I had to cancel. 101 Auto Glass was absolutely professional and very nice over the phone when I cancelled despite the damage I caused for scheduling the job, and finding the appropriate window. If it was not for the package deal (which all goes back to labor costs covered by insurance), we would have gone with them, and all our communication suggests that we would have been satisfied. I have had a windshield and rear quarter glass changed by Chantos and the best adjective I can find to describe his service is phenominal. I could go on, awesome, amazing, etc. My recent experience with him was after a break in where they smashed the quarter glass. This is an experience that causes a lot of aggravation, annoyance, etc. Chantos responded immediately, went out of his way to get the OEM glass and showed up the same day. Chantos is the MAN!!! I can't explain how appreciative I am of his time, work, and the effort. My car was broken into last night in Nob Hill and called the list of Auto Glass Repair companies on yelp. All of them didn't have the glass to repair my front passenger window. None of their vendors or warehouses or junk yards had the glass in stock! They all suggested that I go to the junk yard/pick and pull myself and try to find the glass and they would install it for me or to prowl on eBay looking for the window because no one made after market glass for the window. I even called a couple Honda dealerships to replace the glass for my 1990 Honda Civic Wagon and they all said they'd have to make a special order that would take at least a week. However when I called Chantos he told me he would call right back to see if he could get the glass for me. Called back and said no one found it but would go to the junk yard and look around 2pm. Calls me back apologetically and says he wouldn't have enough time to check until 4pm. Calls me again at 5:15 and tells me he found the glass and can drive to me or meet him around 6! I wanted to make it easier for him so I drove to him where he was replacing someone else's glass at 5:45 and he started right up and I was out of there at 6:30!! He was so kind to bring out two seats for me and my girlfriend to watch him work in the dark, and talk to us. He is so empathetic, kind, hard working, and works on each car as if it were his own. After each step of replacing my window he would pause and think what he needs to do next so he wouldn't miss anything which I found really admirable. He showed pictures of his wife and 8month old and told us that she was a stay at home mom so he had to work hard to provide for them. I wish more humans had the mindset of this guy and I gladly tipped him on top of the cheap cost of replacing my window. Top quality service all around! My car got broken into for my cell phone and they broke the passenger front side window. Bastards! I wasted a day calling places that my insurance recommended and finally choose one with the earliest appointment which was still a long wait. Later that night I searched on Yelp to check out the ratings of the places I had called and I found 101 Auto Glass. The next day I called and left a message. Chantos returned my call very quickly. I wasn't sure what color my glass was so he drove over to my apartment the same day because he was in the area. He explained that Mercedes glass is a different color than most (I can't remember if it was green or blue), so I have to use OEM glass from Mercedes and can't use generic glass. He went above and beyond to get my glass from a Mercedes dealership as quick as possibly. He spent extra time calling all the local dealerships just to try to find my window in stock. We ended up having to order it but he installed it the same day it came in. When I called to cancel my other appointment I first asked if it was OEM glass and they said no. I am so glad I went with Chantos and he took the time to explain to me about the glass difference AND my insurance paid for the OEM glass! Now that's real customer service.
