Captain's catch. Promise there's more in the bag just wasn't pictured well
Carelle V.

First time visit FOOD: We ordered the Captain's catch and a fried catfish & chips basket. It was more than enough for the both of us and decently priced. The fried catfish were huge portions. We got the fries in cajun flavoring and as for the Captain's catch, we got garlic butter only and non-spicy. I'm not sure if their butter base has paprika and cayenne as their baseline flavoring because it still had a kick. I didn't mind but my mother cannot handle any spice lol. The color of the sauce was red so I don't think it was just garlic butter. It also was a bit salty so we asked for extra lemon to help cut it down. The shrimp, sausages, potatoes, egg and snow crab legs were cooked perfectly. The catfish was freshly cooked and meaty. No off-putting taste but also had a kick of spice in the batter but still tasted good. SERVICE: We got seated immediately on an early afternoon on Friday but we waited for a good while to get acknowledged. I'm not sure why only ONE server was taking all the orders when there's multiple people working on the floor? He literally had half of the building (7-8 tables). One table had at least 12 people in the group. Jaime was our server and was very apologetic about the wait which was very nice. I do not blame him at all I just don't understand how they do their partitions of tables especially when the setting is for big groups. It took about 15-20 mins to get acknowledged at our table. The positive of it is by the time he got to us we knew what we wanted lol. AMBIANCE: Plenty of seatings/booths available. High ceilings with great space. No smells of the kitchen that will stick with you even after you get out of the building. The waiting area and tables are clean. I don't understand why the bathroom was not renovated while the rest of the building was changed? It is the same old and nasty bathroom when it was hometown buffet. Overall, I think I'll try this place again but maybe during a weekday to see if the wait of service will improve. I thought the quality of seafood was good. The flavor of the seasonings might have been too salty for our liking. Not a lot of garlic flavor for a garlic butter seasoning. It's a good spot to try at least once especially if you have never been to a seafood boil spot but honestly I have tried someone's seafood boil off marketplace for better flavor and taste, not as big of shrimps though and obviously no crab legs. I think there is definitely room for improvement with flavor and service.

Stumbled upon this location while driving back to Sacramento from the Santa Barbara. Newly opened location and service was amazing! I'm not one that eats seafood but still wanted to tase the flavors.. they made me a bag with corn sausage and potatoes and even added extra spice per my request.

Staff just laughing out loud and talking a lot instead of servicing the customers. Poor service!

Wanted to try this place since we love going to Boiling Crab! The place is nice and roomy and has lots of nice decor but that's all the pros. We came in on a Friday before the dinner rush. There was a lot of empty tables and there were a lot of workers. We order some shrimp and sausages with the 101 special and mild. The shrimp needed a lot of seasoning. It was pale and did not have any flavor. Usually the bag would have a lot of sauce and seasoning in it so that we can mix our shrimp and sausage inside but not in our case. It was dry. Don't order the sausage either. It was paper thin and it doesn't seem like a pound for how thinly sliced they were. The service wasn't good either. The waitress was kind of rude and didn't check up on us. We had to flag down someone else to refill our soda. There was a bunch of workers just chatting and taking loud in the hostess area. None of them came and checked up on us. Poor service and food needs more improvement. For the price, it was not worth the price. Sure it's our only option for some seafood boil like this in town but for the price, the taste, and the service, I wouldn't come back. I saw it on someone's instagram that 101 crab was open and they were pushing it really hard to advertise the restaurant but I didn't see the hype. I wouldn't come back.

I highly recommend this place! As a new business, they're still working out some kinks, but the staff is really making an effort. A special shoutout to Mia, who got our drinks started while we waited, and Chris, who stepped in to take our order. Thanks also to the Asian gentleman who brought us what we needed and the owner, who was running around, lending a hand wherever he could - you're a lifesaver! The food was also incredibly delicious

101 Combo. Fresh, flavorful and so, so delicious

Great food, great atmosphere, great service. This was my first time here and from what I can tell, this new restaurant has quickly found its stride. I had their 101 Combo which I shared with my friend. Portions were perfect, and flavors were rich and fresh.

We ate them all!

Our first time here. Angel served us. Food came fast! Seafood bag chefs combo was amazing, spices and food components ratio was to the point!!! Any seafood or crab combo must stop here :). They played great music where my daughter was dancing the whole time. We would definitely come back with larger group.

First of all if it wasn't for Sam' Samantha wouldn't be giving 5 stars, she took care of us. She did excellent getting our requests... when 2 others just lagged it. Newly opened maybe 2 weeks? We waited 40 minutes , which they did tell us would take to be seated. I think they were kind of slow because there were short on help. Seemed when we were almost done we saw a lot more employees, probably for the late afternoon rush. Our food was pretty good, the catfish was good, the only drawback is they use a tempura like batter, golden and crispy. We prefer a southern cornmeal batter. The fried Shrimp, oysters were very good. Big mozzarella sticks cheesy ! Maybe in time they can add a tasty coleslaw. This place was busy. The restrooms were clean A+ . Lots great seating roomy fresh bright w dine background music. I think in time once they are settled and continue improving tgey are going to be successful. A great option for seafood. Affordable too.

We were a little hesitant on trying this place out the first month that they were open due to all the mixed reviews. They definitely listen to the comments and have improved. We had the 101 sauce, with our seafood boil, which is a mixture of all the seasonings. It had more than enough seasoning in the mix and plenty on the bottom of the bag. The chicken wings were crispy and seasoned very well. We had a little of a weight before we receded, but that is expected with such a new restaurant. After we were seated and placed our order, the food came out pretty quick. It was a busy night, but our waitress came to check on us as often as she could.. we will definitely be back!

I honestly stumbled into this place and I'm so glad I did. I've lived in the Five Cities area for…read moreover 25 years and had no idea this was sitting right down the road. Another hidden gem. The building is from 1917 and you can feel it everywhere.... dark wood, stained glass, a ship model in a glass case, an old house telephone booth, a hand-painted figurehead hanging from the ceiling holding lanterns. It's not trying to be charming, it just is. The tri-tip sliders and pretzel bites were so good I forgot to take a picture before they were gone (especiallythe tri tip sliders). Happy hour pricing made the whole thing even better. Seriously, if you're anywhere near Santa Maria, make the drive. I'll definitely be back and I'm a little annoyed it took me this long to find it! Tim the bartender was also outstanding. Friendly, warm and informative and of course a great bartender.

To give an idea of how much we like these, we stayed at the hotel for a few nights so we could drink a few extra rather than drive. I used to get to NYC and LA a lot, and particularly when Tim is bartending you are definitely getting drinks that would be competitive in a major city's better coctail bar. The other bartenders are also solid (e.g., some of us preferred Lorene's Espresso Martini and Dennis down in the Barrel Room is great but does drinks with a different style/mixers). The food is also quite tasty now. We were there in winter 2024 when there was some kind of big turnover on the kitchen area, and it had been hit-or-miss. New kitchen for 2025 does well on bar staples (e.g., burgers, sliders). The fish and chips is also pretty great: I'm a hard grader on fish, but everyone realy enjoyed them: light, crispy breading that goes great with lemon. For kids, the popcorn maker was a huge hit, though they could use one or two more kid-friendly entrees. Service is friendly, with good decorum (e.g., fine to have plenty of drinks, but pretty obviously not a place to get wild). As there is often only one bartender on duty, I usually just ordered up at the bar and they'll take it to you. Happy hour was 3-5 PM, daily I think- a few bucks off of drinks and most (all?) food half-price. Overall, had a great time. We'd definitely get back again.

Service is great and we love this place. We would be here a lot more as we live less than1m away, if it were not for the god awful 'country music'. Please just shut it off. Your chef clearly has attention to detail and is a prodigy. We loved the tortillas and butter you previously served, but the freshly fried tortilla chips, fresh homemade salsa and sauces were delightful and a much appreciated prelude to our lovely meal. We love the speakeasy. The bartender is absolutely wonderful. Best cocktails I've ever had. I would argue he is the best in the county. Frankly I love to just request 'dealers choice' and he makes the most amazing drinks I've ever had. Fun way to spend a weekend evening. Can I please just say one more time, get rid of this horrific noise. We love the DJ in the speakeasy! So cool, and great music in there. Even if we are not completely vibing with it, it's curated and inoffensive. Can I say, what a joy to have Beso in our neighborhood. We love this place (just NOT this 'music'). We come in for breakfast/brunch or dinner and the music is so annoying/uncomfortable/noxious, that we leave before ordering desert, etc. would hang out longer, would be in more frequently if not for that one big adversity. It takes a month or more to extinct the unpleasantness of the 'music' , we come in and there it is, all over again and we are reminded of why we don't visit more. Please fix this!!

The menu now includes only a few generic Mexican dishes and a single Margarita, apparently to keep folks like us from just turning around and going home (I was very tempted). They don't even have anything like the broad beer selection like that at the Arroyo Grande Blast & Brew, which has many of their own very good brews. We got the Chile Verde nachos, but it was tough to find much Chile Verde. They nicely split the order into two plates without our asking, apparently because we indicated that we would be sharing and charged $5 for that useless "improvement". Adding two tiny containers of dipping sauces for the Truffle Fries added $1.50 each (no one mentioned that they were "extra"). We don't care about the added cost, but this seems like a sleazy attempt to squeeze as much revenue as possible from patrons. We certainly will never go back.

The oak grilled open faced rib-eye sandwich was absolutely incredible. I'm not exaggerating when I say it had more flavor than Wolfgang Puck's CUT. The rib-eye was perfectly cooked to the medium temperature I requested, tender enough to bite through without a knife, and seasoned exactly the way Santa Maria style beef should be. So many places are too conservative with the seasoning these days, but they got it just right. Even the bread underneath the steak was perfect. It didn't even need salsa, but of course I tried it both ways. Honestly? I couldn't decide which I liked better because the sandwich was outstanding on its own. We also ordered the linguiça appetizer with garlic bread. The linguiça had that slight char from the grill that gives it so much flavor, and the mustard served alongside it was the perfect pairing. My mom ordered the prime rib sandwich with grilled onions and chose the 50/50 fries and grilled onions. The only minor criticism I have is that it wasn't quite a true 50/50 and could have used a few more grilled onions. Other than that, it was delicious. The pinquito beans have a little kick, so if you're sensitive to spice, keep that in mind. Personally, I wouldn't change a thing. The whole meal took me right back to growing up in the Santa Maria Valley cruising Broadway on Saturday while the entire town smelled like oak fired Santa Maria barbecue. We cook a lot at home, and we're pretty serious about our beef, so eating steak at restaurants is usually disappointing because very few places compare. That's why I was so impressed today. This wasn't just a good sandwich.. it was one of the best rib-eye sandwiches I've ever had. To whoever was running the grill today: outstanding job. You absolutely nailed it. I'll be thinking about that sandwich for a long time.

Then the main course came with our sides, a little pot of salsa and a little pot of beans. The filets were very tender, it not well seasoned. Baked potatoes were fine, but the mixed veggies were tasteless. There may have been some kind of bread, but I don't remember. Service was fine. But waitress really made out.
