Wow! This is a great spot. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. We had eaten at Jackos Steakhouse the night before and were so disappointed. Almost didn't come here as thought we'd end up with the same... Upon walking in we were greeted by hostess right away asking if we wanted to dine in bar, dinning room or patio. It was a nice night and contemplated patio but the bar lounge area looked inviting and chose the space with hair on hide backed booth and comfy chair. I settled in the corner booth, it was so comfy. Such a nice treat from the night before on hard wooden chairs at that other place... Our waitress was so nice and friendly. She was slammed but very attentive. Sitting back and watching the very busy bar, you saw locals coming and going and staff knowing them all. So encouraging. We settled in on the Bullseye, the largest version aka Ribeye and shared it. I went ahead and added an extra salad for me and just shared the rest of sides. Comes with a shrimp cocktail with the babiest shrimp, I've never seen them that tiny. I don't rate sea food so I just watched. The hubs likes sea food but prefers fried shrimp. He ate a few bites but again it's not really his thing. I got the side salad with ranch and he got clam chowder. He loved his clam chowder. I was pleasantly surprised at the mixed green salad. Everything was great! Steak cooked perfectly with great taste and tender. Baked potato was so good. The beans had a great taste, I'm not a huge bean person but something was up and I enjoyed a few bites and two slices of bread drenched in the bean gravy juice, so good! I asked for a side of chimichurri sauce (saw it on the menu), I used that for my steak and it was a great flavor adder; it didn't need it I'm just a sauce condiment person. We were stuffed but I decided to get dessert to go. Settled on the flourless chocolate mousse cake. Before leaving notice a couple tables over had what looked like a chocolate cake square with ice cream on top. I was hoping that wasn't what I ordered... because I was expecting more torte/mousse. Upon arrival at our RV I checked and yes I got what I was expecting! Even stuffed I just had to have a bite, OMG! So amazing. The slice of mousse cake/kinda like a soft torte came with fresh raspberries, strawberries and mint. A bite of that chocolate with a berry was heaven! The restaurant has such a great feel, think decor you'd find at ranches in Texas, plush seating, cattle pictures. We felt at home and can't wait to come back. Planning on the hubs getting his chowder us sharing beef skewers and a twice baked potato. He might just get two bowls of chowder! Today was our first time here, and from start to finish, everything was exceptional. The host and servers provided outstanding customer service and made us feel truly welcomed. It did not feel crowded whatsoever, we were seated in a well lit area. The food was absolutely amazing! I had the tri-tip, and my husband ordered the boneless ribeye , both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. And definitely get the double baked potato... you will not regret it! What a great night! Far Western had several factors that stood out for us (as Central Coast locals) among the other great Central Coast steakhouses: service, the shrimp cocktail, the soup and the salad course, and the desserts -- along with great steaks and a fun environment. Let's get into it! We reserved on Open Table and requested Yasha's section because she was mentioned in so many glowing reviews. She is also a manager and has worked at Far Western (including the OG location in Guadalupe) for 15 years. She was an ace server but also showed incredible ownership, making great recommendations and spending some time telling us about the menu and the restaurant - even though it was a busy Friday night. We started with cocktails. Although we had ours at the table, their bar is gorgeous and I recommend coming early for a drink at the bar. You also have the option of dining at the bar, and there was room for walk-ins a little before 6:00 on this particular Friday. We ordered a Paper Plane ($16) and an Elijah Craig Old Fashioned ($16) with cardamom bitters - that one was my favorite. Their cocktail program really stood out with classic steakhouse cocktails with top shelf ingredients and skilled bartending. In awesome Central Coast steakhouse fashion, your entree comes with a relish tray, bay shrimp cocktail (excellent spicy, earthy cocktail sauce), a choice of soup or house salad, pressed garlic bread, a choice of starch (with a few upgrade options), salsa, plus pinquito beans. The clam chowder (available Fridays and Saturdays) was a star in a county with so many good clam chowders. It was bacon-y and not too thick- perfect for our palates. The house salad was one of the best house salads I've ever had - the freshest mix of crispy lettuces (in perfect bite-sized pieces), grape tomatoes, carrots, a slice of watermelon radish (classy!), ordered with gorgeous blue cheese dressing (with crumbles on top) - with or without croutons.This was a big salad you'd be happy with if you'd ordered it à la carte. See photo! We ordered the ribeye (they call it the Bullseye Steak, $69) and the 14 oz sirloin ($60); both were terrific. All the steaks are seasoned with a mix they've bottled and is pretty widely available in area grocery stores called Suzy Qs. It was a great seasoning mix and not too salty. My sirloin (14 oz) came out closer to medium than medium rare. I sent it back and the next one came out perfect. It was also handled with grace. We had a second round of cocktails with dinner - another Elijah Craig old fashioned with the cardamom bitters and a Black Manhattan ($16) - terrific! Our waters were refilled and empty plates cleared quickly by professional and friendly bussers. For dessert we shared a Berry Crostada (house made) with vanilla ice cream. Outstanding! Lovely, light and flaky pastry. This is one of those desserts to have when you want to try something but you're pretty full. Of course we ate the whole thing. After dinner we walked around to look at the photos on the wall and soak up the history of the Central Coast ranches. BTW, plenty of street parking in quiet downtown Orcutt. Came here on a Friday night and it was busy. Looked like a great date night spot. Cocktails were good but not very strong. Food wise is was really good. I had the steak sandwich and it was amazing. Best steak sandwich I ever had. Service was ok. Our server disappeared for a noticable amount of time and wasn't sure if he went on break or went home but he was really friendly. We had a reservation so there was no wait, but I am sure if you don't have a reservation you are going to have to wait, because people seems to love this place. My last visit to the far Western was at its old location in Guadalupe, finally decided to come here and try it out. It was such a pleasant surprise to see the back of the old bar in the new location, they did such a good job on the ambience of this restaurant. The service in the bar area that we had was so wonderful from the bartender Andrea, there was a new busser and she was doing such an incredible job treating him and still being attentive to all of her customers. The food was delicious and the dessert was even better, we had the chicken split and the burger both were perfectly cooked. We are excited to come back and try this place again soon! read more

I'd been wanting to try Far Western for a while but it's a bit of a trek from SLO; however, I know now it's entirely worth it! Service was immaculate, the inside and outside tables are both beautiful and well maintained while clearly being preserved for decades, and the bathrooms were really nice and clean! My boyfriend got the special of the day which was the filet and shrimp and it was PHENOMENAL. My ribeye (the "world famous bullseye") was also perfectly cooked and so flavorful, and the fries were mouthwatering. I was hoping not to be disappointed and can now definitely say this place lives up to the hype! Sltting in the bar so we didn't have to wait, baseball is on so thats good right. Water was served immediately, they brought a croute, and a bay shrimp salad soon followed. Okay we have waited nearly half an hour since finishing our delicious salad and minestrone soup, the server continued to replenish the garlic bread and finally came clean with "i'm sorry a big party order has slowed the kitchen" ah... That will remove a star. Right then, the ribs were Very good. No sauce on these bad boys it was dry rub perfect. Tender but over tender just right. I hit the jackpot finding this wonderful steakhouse. It's like old time steak houses where your meal is NOT ala carte but instead you get a choice of soup or salad and a side. The place is lively with lots of people smiling laughing and having fun. We had the filet and the rib eye. Both beautifully cooked. We tried the clam chowder, which was delicious and the Caesar salad was fresh and bountiful. They had coconut shrimp as a special appetizer, so of course we tried it! When it came out we were like are those lobsters! The shrimp were huge!! Definitely enough to share. This place isn't just good food because the service was top notch too! From the friendly hostess to our wonderful server Tammy, we never wanted for anything. Our drinks were refilled without asking and the pacing of the food was perfect. We didn't feel rushed. The busser was also super friendly and efficient. Being from Vegas, I know steak houses and I gotta tell you that this is a must try place! Prices were good too! For a nominal $20 2nd plate fee, we split their signature bullseye steak, and were overwhelmed with excellent shrimp cocktail, salad, garlic bread, and a wonderful steak. Service was impeccable. The place was crowded but friendly, and our booth was quiet. It was a great date night as we approach our 30th wedding anniversary. We'll be back next time we're near the Central Coast. THANKSGIVING 2025 -- a generous review. Yes, this is overdue, as I reminded myself to write a review when I came across our receipt from the event. When we stay at the central coast in November, this is our "go-to" place. In the past, we tried this once for Thanksgiving, but could not recall if we liked their T-day dinners or not. I had a feeling that their T-day dinners weren't all that memorable, or we would have remembered them, but I doubted myself and so we made reservations. The memory came flooding back as we worked our way through the turkey dinners. We both found (again) that the stuffing was unpleasantly dry and the gravy was good, but was rather sparse. The potatoes were okay, but could have been much warmer...bordering room temp/coolish in some spots. I asked for a fork when given my slice of cake after dinner. Jordan (okay, but a bit indifferent) our server brought over a fork, but turned her back and walked away before I could finish seeing the fork and call her back. OMG. It was not just a "little dirty", it was CRUSTED with dried food all over it. ("How could this "chunky" looking fork be overlooked??", I thought. It looked like it was pulled from a dirty dish bin). I called the attention of nearby server so I asked for a clean fork and then showed it to her. She said, not surprisingly, "Eww!" We still gave a 22% tip because we really like Far Western Tavern and have been going there for many years. Thanksgiving?? NOoooo Way. In town for a wedding we came to this location where the groom used to work. I believe there may be a parking lot but if not there's plenty of street parking. This place as authentically cowboy as possible. Plenty of history in this establishment that makes you appreciate it more.. On to the food.. the bread is arguably some of the best you'll find, I couldn't get enough as it compliments everything including the clam chowder. Along with the soup we were also given bay a Bay shrimp cocktail that was very refreshing. I ordered the bulls eye aka ribeye which is their signature steak and they didnt miss. Very impressed with the cut, seasoning and cooked exactly how I ordered it. The twice baked potato was one of the best I've had and there was a small cup of butter that I dipped my meat and bread in. Don't judge and it doesn't have to make sense but I don't regret it lol.. service was fantastic and everybody left full and with a smile. We had Louisa as our server and the three stars was for the food because it was good the steaks we got were a little over cooked, but Louisa never came to ask how our food was, she failed to mention we can opt out of the shrimp cocktail and she never refilled our drinks not once we got a refill one time from another waiter who asked if we wanted more but she never once asked how anything was and quite frankly she just didn't make much of an effort for anything. She barely showed up to the table maybe a solid 4-5 times the whole night she definitely saw our drinks empty when she brought us boxes. The place was a little busier when we arrived and it was almost dead about halfway into our meal. I have gone here before and had manny and he was amazing so getting her definitely gave me a different perspective on this restaurant i definitely don't think i will be back for a while especially paying what we paid for not great service just doesn't seem worth it. She definitely didn't get a tip and I don't feel one ounce of bad about it. I understand things get busy but that doesn't mean you can't still do better to show you Atleast care idk. read more

We recently went to Far Western on a Thursday night. We called to make a reservation (highly recommend a reservation) and had to leave a message. I got a callback within a few hours & were able to reserve a table for that night. It turned out to be a pretty busy night but we were seated within a few minutes of arriving. The dinners come with shrimp cocktail, choice of soup or salad, bread, beans & salsa & a choice of side dishes. My husband ordered the filet w/salad & baked potatoe & I ordered the 8 oz sirloin w/tomatoe basil soup & baked potatoe. I'm usually not a fan of tmoatoe basil but I was cold & wanted something warm - the soup was excellent! The courses were reasonably spaced out even though the place was packed. Both steaks were cooked exactly as we requested & my husband could cut the filet 'like butter'. We enjoyed everything about our meal (as evidenced by the picture). Our waiter was extremely nice & we had several additional wait staff to refill our water, bring out food & clear our plates. The only area for improvement could be the 'vege tray' waiting for you at our table - a few olives, a few cherry tomatoes, 2 carrot sticks & a whole bunch of peppers - a more robust tray would have been nice while we waited. read more

Off the beaten path from 101 south of Santa Maria, Far West Tavern is a Destination experience both for travelers and locals alike. The vibe is homey and the staff is downright friendly and gracious. My husband and I have been enjoying Santa Maria style Bbq at home for decades but this was our first time making the pilgrimage to Far West Tavern. It did not disappoint!!! We started our evening with a lovely pour of a Central Coast GSM. The meals are so very generous that we opted to skip the appetizer course. Hubby ordered the 7 oz Filet Mignon meal and I ordered the Beef skewers that the server recommended along with a side salad. A delicious bread basket, vegetable tray and what I would consider the house made ranch beans were brought to the table- very much familiar Santa Maria Bbq sides including the house salsa. My husband was brought shrimp cocktail to begin his meal and next was the clam chowder that he is still raving about, the next day! My side salad was a generous helping of fresh mixed greens, shredded carrots, croutons and garnished with a watermelon radish shaving on top with house made dressings on the side. When my husband's main course was brought out, it was such a big portion and served aside a twice baked potato. The cut of the meat wasn't quite what a Filet Mignon is typically but it was so flavorful. The timing was a bit off and my plate didn't arrive, so my husband shared the perfectly cooked steak and potato which were delicious. The table next to us noticed our meal and commented to the waiter that their dinner was delivered to our table. They were right and we were enjoying their 14oz cowboy cut steak. About this time my beef skewers arrived which were so tender- melt in your mouth - with a chimichurri sauce to complement the flavor! How was the staff going to handle this mix up in the kitchen? Our waitress was wonderful and she apologized to both our tables and made everyone happy!! They were brought their original order, and their wine along with other items were comped. For our table they comped my beef skewers because they didn't arrive until my husband was almost finished and they sent us home with my husband's original filet steak in a to-go box. Wine starts at $15 a glass in the middle of wine country a bit much. A 10 Oz. Beer at $8 on the high side IMO. We shared a 14 Oz ribeye ordered rare plus but came medium rare plus but flavor was great. Comes with shrimp cocktail relish tray bread and soup or salad. Had the clam chowder good but more thick than I prefer.
