I met up with a friend last night for dinner at 101 Beer Garden. When we arrived they were fairly busy, but there were plenty of tables open at the time. We were able to secure a nice booth in the back. The restaurant filled up pretty quickly so it seemed so there may have been several reservations. Since my friend and I were not in a big rush and taking our time to make our selections, by the time we were finished the restaurant had thinned out quite a bit. Our server was fantastic, and he was very friendly. I asked for suggestions for a beer on tap and then he brought me two samples. 101 was our favorite place for many years. The check in/hostess barely said hello; despite a reservation. Service was odd and unpleasant. We were told negative responses for an entire hour about what they didn't have, service issues, etc. We dine out several times a week, and this was the oddest experience I've had. We attempted to order dessert before close and our server informed us that the kitchen was closed. A patron later recieived a burger 15 minutes after our ask. After I paid, he picked up the 25% cash tip before we even left our seats! As we exited, the hostess that was now in the kitchen breaking down trays gave us the most devilish look, it was almost comical. I stopped by for a solo meal before a concert at the Carmel Palladium one evening. It was so nice to just sit at the bar and enjoy an nice light dinner and a beer. The people who work here are really on the ball. They were hustling all over the place to seat people and get people their food and drinks. While I was waiting for my food, someone came by to let me know that my food would be arriving soon. I wasn't even waiting that long! But I appreciated the update. I ordered a small beet salad, which might have been a special because I don't see it on the online menu. But if you see it on the menu, you should get it! It had arugula, goat cheese, croutons, walnuts and some other goodies. I paired it with an order of fries, which I was afraid would be too big (you know how portion sizes are these days), but it was just the right amount of fries. Yum yum yum. 101 Beer Kitchen has a large menu of beers on tap, and an even larger menu of beers in cans and bottles. I was feeling like a citrusy beer, so I got the Heavy Seas TropiCannon Citrus IPA. It was super refreshing! It came in a can, but I think next time I'll try one of the beers on tap. Went to 101 Beer Kitchen as part of the Hamilton County Great Dine Out. The program had a coupon for either Free Loaded House Tater Tots or a Soft Pretzel. We ordered the Soft Pretzel. It was good. Fresh and hot. Our only issue was it was only soft on the inside. The outside was brick hard ... I couldn't cut it with a knife. For dinner we ordered the Crispy Lemon Chicken, with extra sauce. It came with green beans and red potatoes. Having had this dish before, we knew how large the portion was ... two chicken breasts. Therefore, we split the entree. My wife and I both really enjoy this dish. Even splitting, we had leftovers! The thing that really makes 101 Beer Kitchen stand out is the service. Each and every time we've been it has been great. I wanted to love the beer kitchen. Good menu, good food, good location in downtown Carmel. But wow do they have service issues. I would likely come back if I had time on a weekday, but would ended not come on a weekend night and not with kids. We were on the back indoor patio with a few other families. After 35 min still no server. No one seemed to want to take our table, and when we asked about it, it took another 15 min for anyone to come. The portions seemed small, the chicken parm was real good with the gnocchi. The kids meals were on little cafeteria trays, which were kinda cute. I think we should have just gotten some chips or fries instead of the canned mandarin oranges. The wings were a little spicy but good. The butternut squash pierogies were a little sweet, but not great to share. There are just 3 pieces. The beet salad was flavorful, but a little overly dressed. Should have asked for dressing on the side. They were nice and offered us a free dessert for the waiting issue. But honestly almost 2 hours later for a dinner with kiddos, the little one was ready to leave and just took a couple bites. read more

We had dinner here on a Friday night and at 6:30 the place was packed, so we were very glad we had a reservation. We were seated on the enclosed patio and between the plastic "walls" and heaters it was reasonably warm. It did get a little chilly when the wind picked up but still wasn't bad. The beer list is impressive. All draft choices are only available via scanning a QR code and viewing on your phone. The printed menu only has the bottled choices. I went with the "Citra Ass Down" both for the name and because the idea of a Belgian IPA sounded excellent and I wasn't disappointed! We shared a couple of appetizers including the loaded tater tots and whipped ricotta. The whipped ricotta was the winner of the two for me. The tots were good, but nothing too exciting. For my entree, I had the seared salmon bowl which was quite good. The couscous salad, beets and Brussels sprouts were all fresh and tasty and the salmon was nicely cooked. I'm not sure why they call it seared rather than grilled though, since it was cooked through. If you're looking for something a little lighter and healthier, this is a good option on the menu. Service was good and the atmosphere was casual and not too loud to have a conversation. Parking is readily available in the nearby free garage! I was fully prepared to park at the Kroger across the street, and take my chances trying to cross a street with no intersections (round abouts everywhere!) but then happily saw the parking sign! read more

I've eaten at the Fishers and Carmel locations of 101 Beer Kitchen. I appreciate that it is a Chef Owned Ohio based restaurant with several Ohio and now Indiana locations, and it doesn't have a "chain" feel. The food and cocktail menu is seasonal and has great variety. Our last visit I tried the Seared Black Garlic Mahi Mahi. The brown butter sautéed gnocchi had a nice crisp and the fish was well cooked. We asked to be seated in a booth, and although this may have thrown the rotation off a bit, the hostess spoke with the server and fulfilled our request. Our server, Everett, appeared to be handling the majority of the patio as well as few tables inside. He managed them pretty effortlessly. He was personable and had a laid back demeanor, but made sure we were taken care of the entire visit. We ordered drinks; I got the Zombie Killer cider and my fiance got the Champagne Margarita (it was a bit small if you ask me). We both enjoyed our drinks. My cider was perfect for Fall. As a matter of fact, Everett told us that they had just switched over to their Fall menu. We ordered the Whipped Ricotta Dip as an appetizer and, for whatever reason, we expected it to be warm, but it is served cold with warm bread. It was surprisingly delicious and we finished the entire plate. We both ordered 101 Burgers. I got mine with fries and my fiance got his with a side of mac and cheese as well as fried green tomatoes. How had this great placed escaped my notice when it had so many things I love: a top notch beer menu, a cozy environment and warm pretzels? It's a fairly small restaurant, wrapped around the corner of a building across from Kroger. Overall it was a great experience. The restaurant was not very busy at the time and our server knew the beer menu well. Seems to me that when a restaurant is not busy, you sometimes get the worst service, but that definitely was NOT the case; our server was attentive without being intrusive. The quality of the food seemed so good overall, though admittedly our sample was small. I have been craving Caesar Salad, and if it had met my expectations, I would have given this experience a five. This Caesar Salad had no anchovy flavor and balsamic dressing. If that was explained in the menu, I overlooked it. The honey chipotle seasoning on the wings gave me a fall spice like flavor. The pretzel was warm and delicious. The beer cheese dipping sauces was thick and more cream cheese like than saucy. I would definitely order this. The 6 cheese macaroni and cheese wasn't the best macaroni I've ever had. I had it topped with chicken but the chicken lacked seasoning. It's homemade and made from scratch but it's difficult to have a stellar mac n cheese. I wouldn't be back for the macaroni. Lastly the peach bourbon butter cake was gooey and sweet. Having been to the fishers location, I went in with big expectations and boy was I disappointed. Let me start out by saying that the restaurant itself is beautiful inside - very modern, but still comfortable, with a large bar if you're like me and love to post up there. But that's about all they had going for them when I visited...The service was horrendous and the food was pretty pitiful too. We sat at the bar and had difficulty getting any of the 3 people working the bar area to notice us, let alone fill up a our glasses that had been empty for 15+ mins when we were the only people sitting at the bar. Then several more attempts to get our bill after sitting with our plates stacked for 10 mins. We ordered the deviled eggs, smoked wings, blackened walleye, and a side of the pesto green beans. The deviled eggs were fine - nothing to write home about. The wings were so dry, they almost tasted dusty and I'm pretty sure they didn't even cook the green beans. Great place! Staff was friendly and attentive. Service was great. Wide selection of beers and a full bar. We arrived without a reservation, but waited at the bar. Bartenders were hustling and helping each other serve everyone. I actually missed the text for our seat but they didn't make a deal of it and seated us right away. We were seated and were quickly treated by the server. You could tell she was good. She made her rounds efficiently and didn't run in circles. She was pleasant and brought water without asking. Food was very good for a brewery restaurant. I had the lamb burger- lots of flavor. The side of pasta salad was also very tasty. My wife had the Greek salad with the Parmesan crust. She really enjoyed it. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. The only two cons were: 1. It is very loud. Between the open kitchen and the hard finishes, be prepared for a loud environment. 2. I would have liked an IBU rating and style on the beer menu. You can scan the QR code on the menu and look it up on the On Tap ap, though. The menu is full of creative and fantastic food (11 of us ate at one sitting and everyone loved everything they got), great ambiance, comfortable tables and booths, not to mention attentive, friendly service. Two chicken breasts served hot and crunchy with the best part on top: the lemon sauce. It's very lemony without being over powering. Red potatoes and green beans on point. We went to 101 Beer Kitchen on Friday night and the food was delicious! We did not have reservations for the evening, so we walked in and were immediately seated. The hostesses were friendly and restaurant is very cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately the restaurant seemed to be very understaffed for a Friday night and it took us 20 minutes to get a server to the table once we were seated. Every time he walked away, we didn't see him for another 10-20 minutes. (Which I don't believe was entirely his fault) Therefore, we ordered as fast as we could and I got the chicken parmesan, which was delicious! Those who I was with both ordered burgers and said they were satisfied as well.The fall menu is fantastic and there looks to be a lot of great options I would want to come back and try. We noticed there were cooks and the chef running food and no bussers cleaning off the tables.
