Cobb salad, amazingly fresh chicken with a wonderful smoky flavor.

Just wow. OK, the funny thing is in a restaurant that has a ton of smoked meats on the menu, there's a big "no smoking" sign in the front of the place... a bit ironic and made me laugh. We were on our way to camping for the fourth and stopped here for dinner so we wouldn't have to cook after setting up our tent. I'm sure glad we did! We both had salads - me the Cobb, my wife, the tri-tip, and both were AMAZING. Let's just say there were not leftovers for the dog who was very patiently waiting under the table for some miracle to fall off (ok a couple of pieces did...) We are looking forward to our next visit. Great service, great food, good prices, lovely location.

My friend and I were traveling back from spending some time up around Redwoods National Park and wanted a place to stop for breakfast along the way. We found this little bbq shop that was open at 9am right off of 101 so decided to stop there. It wasn't busy when we went in and was picked a table to sit at. My friend ordered the smoked tritip with eggs, country potatoes, and sourdough bread. I ordered the smoked brisket, eggs, and country potatoes (no toast). We got our drinks and food quickly. We were also given a pail of sauces we can try with the bbq meats Brisket was a tad tough for me and the potatoes had some special sauce on it that I love. My friend liked his plate but wasn't too fond of the country potatoes. Definitely will try to stop here on my next trip up highway 101.

This was supposed to be Smoked BBQ Chicken.

*In response to the restaurant's comment to my review. * We offered to pay for the entire meal even though the food was not eaten, and was told by the server, "No, it's fine", as she began picking up the plates from the table. Like I mentioned, we left $25 on the table to at least pay for the shredded chicken and drinks. As pictured below, we left with full plates on the table, so we didn't eat for free. Also, by your response to this review, it's no wonder the server lacked customer service skills. It looks like she may have been trained by you. Not all customers will be happy. Learn to take negative comments professionally. ********************************** *Original Post Below* We came in after lunch hour so it wasn't busy at all. Only one other table was occupied. We were only a party of 3; however, the food took almost an hour to get. We ordered two steak plates, one med/rare and the other med/well. My daughter wanted their smoked bb chicken. After the long wait, all the orders were wrong. The chicken served came shredded. When told we ordered the BBQ smoked chicken, she informed us they were still out on the grill and was not going to be ready. It would have been nice to know this prior to being served. Both steaks were not only overcooked and dry but very thin and were small portions. Same as the loaded baked potato. The grilled veges were mushroom and bell peppers. The restaurant was accommodating and did not charge us for anything, including drinks; however, had customer service been a little okay, we would have had no problem paying the bill 100%. The waitress had an attitude and kept rolling her eyes. She said several times, "Well, I put the order as you said" and "I wasn't the one that cooked it". Obviously, we were not blaming her. We just wanted it known that after that long wait, we didn't have time to wait for everything to be recooked again. Also, these steak dinners were $38 a plate! Although, we were not obligated to pay anything served, we did leave $25 for whatever they wanted to put it towards and walked out. Sincerely, Disappointed Trios

We were a large group passing through Highway 101 and decided to make this our brunch stop. It did not disappoint. The lone server that day was Taylor, her and the kitchen staff accommodated every group in that packed restaurant that day, us included. She told us the wait time and we're all for it, that gave us time to gas up our cars next door, use the restroom and wait for another group in our party after ordering food. We asked to help her move tables but she said she'll do it. I watched this tiny lady single handedly did all of that on top of multitasking, she was great. The food was great, good portions and the prices are very affordable. The only hiccup was one person who came in later within our group didn't get her food for a while but it was a miscommunication and she still left with her food in a to go container. This restaurant will be included in our long drive route stop over and for sure we will come and visit again. Maybe we'll be able to try the barbecues from the grill since they only serve them after 2pm.

Laytonville is a cute and funky little town nestled on the 101 in Mendocino County. I was craving a burger and I'd heard this place had good ones, so it was a date. It is a quiet and unassuming location, bigger than you might think. There is an exterior seating area and a very pretty barbecue grill that probably gets used on weekends. The menu has breakfast and lunch with all the staples and a great selection of burgers and sides. I chose the Mendo Mushroom burger and it was fantastic. Very large with a heaping amount of edible fungi that complemented it perfectly. The service was very professional and my wait was short even with a crowd. I will definitely try this place again

This location is quite convenient for travelers and first comers to the area. Right off by US-101, you got a bbq spot to eat at. I highly recommend. Parking is available outfront. My group of friends and I were coming back from our trip in Eureka, making couple stops before heading back home. We saw this restaurant and decided to try it out. The chefs did their thing and the food was delicious. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich w/ a side of Mac & Cheese. Drink was coffee + peanut butter milkshake, the creamy thickness of the combination of both flavors impressed me. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Place got busy and Service was a bit tight on orders but the waitress managed after things started to settle down. Place inside was clean and bathrooms are available. They also have a high top chair sit down bar by the kitchen. Pretty cool restaurant, thank you. I enjoyed the food!

The Peg House has a cute gift shop, general store with booze and basics (famous brownies and ginormous cookies!) and next door is the outdoor restaurant. It has a great vibe, owner took out orders and you KNOW by the taste and food service how much love and thought goes into this place! We had: Grilled Chicken w/brie Bigfoot Burger Classic Cheeseburger All came with coleslaw and that was great too! We plan on making this a pitstop from now on. Everything was delicious and there was live music on stage. **if you're camping get wood here too-it's a great price for the large bundle. Thanks Peg House!

I ordered the lost coast burger and with tax it was $20. It came with a small portion of broccoli coleslaw that I really liked- and thankfully my two companions did not so I got a triple portion. The burger was fine. Not the greasy smash burger experience I was craving, but it tasted fresh. Served on a ciabatta roll... from Costco? Unconfirmed, but that's what it tasted like. I would have preferred brioche or something more fluffy. I ate every crumb because post hike hunger. I wouldn't come again though. The service was good and everyone was nice- just overpriced for the product, IMO. The outdoor seating was nice and it looks like sometimes there is live music. The bathrooms were gross. Smelled horrible and dirty. There is a campground or some sort of rv park right behind that may also be sharing the restrooms.
