Located in the same plaza as Osaka Marketplace with plenty of free parking. I came on a Monday afternoon, but I'm sure it gets busy on the weekends. The store is stocked with a variety of tea leaves imported from Taiwan and they also do a tea tasting before you buy. Keep in mind, the tea tasting is free with purchase. This place has a ton of high quality loose leaf tea options! We got oolong and chrysanthemum loose leaf tea and it is delicious. When we entered, we were greeted by the ladies working and they asked us what we were looking for. We basically said "oolong and chrysanthemum tea, like the ones you get as dim sum" and she was able to recommend a few to us. They have different types of tea some cheaper and other more expensive depending on the quality. They also have various sizes. The teas are quite pricey but they're really good and last long. I am very disappointed in the oolong tea I got a couple days ago. After giving this place 4 star on my last review. I have to downgrade this place after testing out the dayuling and fuso premium oolong teas I don't want to throw accusations around but let's just say that it is not as good as the ones I have been getting directly from Taiwan for the last 10yrs... I get faint flavor and taste but it was not as intense. You can attest to lot to lot variation or other variables. But let's just say this is like a light version of what I normally get.. The dayuling is also similar. I get the smell and can taste the flavors only in the first or 2nd round. Again, the flavor is not as intense and after 3-4 brews, it's all gone... The ones I get directly from Taiwan is way more intense. I would get at least 4 brews and up to 6 decent brews. I guess u get what u pay for... I was really surprised that they charge the same for all three premium oolong teas. The fuso lishan is usually the most expensive, around 1600NT per 150g. The dayuling is 1200NT per 150g. Here they are the same price. $30USD per 0.25 lb. 30USD = 900NT. And 0.25lb = 115g Working out the math This place sells the premium teas at 7.8NT/g In Taiwan, the fuso is 10.66NT/g The dayuling is 8NT/g You get what you pay for.... I definitely will not be getting premium oolong from this place again... I still recommend this place for low end teas. The Jasmine and black teas are good... read more

I am really addicted to the teas they are selling. I drink 3 to 4 cups per day which makes me in shape. During lock down time, I eat more and exercise less, because I drink tea, I am not gaining too much weight! LOL! It does help to dissole the fat in our body! I liked the Organic Godden Red tea very much. Good combination taste, very warm and soothing, not too strong, not too mild either. A few loose tea leaves make the perfect taste with 0 calories. I makes me want to drink it all day long. It has very little caffeine, so it won't affect my sleep. I really recommend this during pandemic time. I also liked their Organic Gaba Tea which contains the least caffeine. Oriental Beauty is also a good choice. Their price is very reasonable. This is the best tea store I have ever found in bay area. Absolutely love this place! The owner was so kind and friendly and really helped to educate someone who wants to get into the art of enjoying tea. I've always wanted to try doing my own gongfucha, and having a nice place like this is absolutely amazing. I bought the Red Tea, Da Hong Pao, and Alishan Oolong. I also decided to get myself my own set with teacups, teapot, and Gaiwan. I just performed the ceremony myself with my siblings and as we tried each of the teas recommended to us, the experience only got better and better. I would highly recommend the Alishan Oolong - all the sayings about its refined, sweet aromas and flavors are true. I'll be coming to this store far more often to get some more loose leaf teas, and a business like this deserves all the support it can get! read more

However much I love tea shops, I don't plan on coming back here. Entered the store to look for some Jasmine tea, only to me constantly stared at and followed by the lady in the store. When I say constantly stared at, I mean constant. There's definitely different qualities of service, and it sounds like if you speak the dialect, she'll be less intense. Had a really positive experience at 101 Tea Plantation! I come to this shopping center all the time and had never noticed this little shop before. Recently I'm really into oolong, so when we were walking by and noticed the jars on the wall I just had to stop in. The lady inside greeted us warmly and started telling us how beneficial tea is for your health, etc. When I asked if they had any Da Yu Ling oolong she shifted her marketing pitch and started talking about how they get their tea sourced directly from farmers in Taiwan. Pretty cute :) I'm just a tea beginner, so I have no idea of the legitimacy of these claims! I asked if she had any Si Ji Chun (didn't know the Chinese name until she told me!) and she said that's a promotional name. She recommended Red Heart Frozen Summit (no idea what the real name is), $10 for 1/4 lb. I would have done some tasting at the table and stayed longer, but I was with a friend who wasn't into tea, hehehe. So I took home the Frozen Summit, and I can't stop drinking it. It's exactly the kind of taste I love! I'm really excited to have a place like this so close. Can't wait to go back and taste a bunch of different teas there! read more

This is the place to go in Fremont if you want a large variety of loose leaf teas. They do have some tea bag varieties, but by far loose leaf wins here. It was very easy for me to find several kinds of organic teas. The real question was how was I going to decide which green and black teas to buy? Issue solved as they have the coolest set up toward the back to try the teas. They have a table entirely made of the stump of a huge, fat tree. They carved it out so there is a lip around the edges and a drain system on one end. Tell them what you want to try and then you sit at the table. They brew each tea allowing time for a quick steep, first pour, inverting a thimble-like cup into that first pour so you can get a whiff of the aroma. You can try the first pour if you'd like. The second pour is where the flavor of the tea really pervades. The tasting itself is fun and a learning experience. Highly recommend if you're new to tea drinking or looking for some new flavors. read more

This tea place is LEGIT! We got ~200 tea bags for our wedding favors and want to make sure our guests get higher quality tea bags. We got an assortment: jasmine, oolong, frozen summit oolong, and black tea. I'm drinking the frozen summit oolong tea as typing and this tea is amazing. +1 Each is individually packaged and the tea leaves are placed in a silk bag and the tea leaves are de-hydrated. +1 I poured maybe 2 cups of hot water and immediately you can smell the fragrance of the tea, I did 5 mins of brewing and place the tea bag aside for a 2nd brewing. First I tried it with no milk/cream and this tea is very full-body with a slight sweet aftertaste. Dude at this point I'm super impressed since usually with 5 mins of brewing, the tea bags I've tried (Stash, Tenren, Bigelow) get slightly bitter, but this tea is still strong w/o the bitter taste. +1 Then I got a little adventurous and wanted to try it with cream since I like my tea with milk. I used 1 tbsp of half n half and give a good stir and the result is AMAZING. It tastes like if you got a hot Teaspoon oolong tea with 10% sugar. The best I've tried hands down, Stash's early grey tea is a close second. +1 This tea bag definitely still has a 2nd brew left since after the 1st brew, the tea leaves have been hydrated and fully opened. I shall save it for an afternoon cup, although I'm nearing the bottom of my 1st cup so we'll see. ;) +1 Price is very affordable, it's $16 for 30 tea bags; about 20cents more than Stash. And definitely way more affordable than going out and buying milk tea, that'll run you $5/cup. We were also talking to the store owner and she said they have their own tea farms in Taiwan so they are not sourcing it from a 3rd party; the silk bags are imported from Japan. Came in here to buy some loose leaf tea in those big canisters (like at teavana) but I guess everything is already packaged up! I LOVE jasmine tea so that's all I came in for. The nice lady let my mom and I try the "Beauty jasmine organic" at the back of the shop where the lady brewed us a sample. We loved it but it was too expensive ($60/lb)!! I ended up buying a pound of "Jasmine fragrance Jade dew" for $30. Eventually my mom wanted the organic one that we tried so we bought 1/2 of it for $30. $60 of jasmine tea and we left happy! read more

We were very excited to find this wonderful tea shop in Fremont. We were helped by Helen who gave us a great education about tea. She was an excellent salesperson, I ended up buying a lot more tea than I was planning to buy! We tried many different types of Taiwanese tea in the store. My favorite was the high grade Formosa bug bitten oolong. I was so impressed to how high the quality was given the low prices. After eating lunch in the area, one of our friends wanted to buy some tea so we stopped by this store just to check it out. Upon entering two ladies greeted us and asked if we needed any help. They spoke in Mandarin with us, and their English isn't bad, but it isn't that great. Sometimes they'd get a little confused if we asked them questions in English, although they did their best to answer. The friends we were with weren't Chinese so we ended up doing a bit of translating for them. The ladies were really friendly and told us about a promotional deal they were having for lunar new year: 1 lb of green or oolong tea regularly priced at $30 for $15. Since we didn't want to blindly buy that much tea without trying it first, we asked if we could possibly sample both types. There's a tea tasting table set-up in the back of the store where they will let you have a tea tasting. It's not just a sample, it's like a real tea tasting! They go through the whole procedure of pouring the first batch into tiny cups for you to smell and you don't get to actually taste the tea until the third time the tea pot is refilled when the flavor of the leaves really comes out after the leaves open. You get to taste the next three cups as well and with each soak, the flavor of the tea becomes stronger and better tasting! We tasted two types of tea- a green tea and an oolong tea. They started us off with the green because you're supposed to test from light to dark. A lot of teas I've had in the past have a weird bitter after taste that gets stuck in your throat after drinking tea, but these teas actually left a pleasant light taste after drinking them. The ladies answered all our questions about the differences in the tea, caffeine levels, and even the benefits of the tea. We left a lot more knowledgable then when we went in. I don't think on a normal basis anyone would have time to make tea this way, but it was so nice that the two ladies in the store let us experience the tea tasting. I was looking for high quality green tea and it is hard to find in US. This store sells loose green tea and I thought it could be better than other stores. But it turns out that the quality is very bad too. What they call "best green tea" (极品绿茶）is about the same as the worst green tea in Chinese tea shops. read more

I felt I should write a review since I'm a regular and can vouch for the quality of the tea. Many of the bad reviews are simply regarding service because of language or cultural differences... granted a business should be in step with the culture they operate in. But nonetheless, if one of us should open up shop in Taiwan or elsewhere, wouldn't it be nice if the locals allowed us some learning curve to get with it? And I think they are getting with it because every time I've gone there (10 or so visits in the last 6 months), there is someone who speaks English and usually they are very friendly if they are better in English. Anyhow, back on topic. If you are a tea lover and want a quality place to find legit organic tea, do check this place out. I get so many compliments from my friends for the milk tea I make using 101 Tea Plantation loose leaf. Incredibly rude people. I met the owner in Yunnan about 10 years ago and he's a wonderful person, but the two ladies that run the shop were incredibly rude to my wife and I. We are both fluent in Mandarin... maybe they didn't like our Yunnan accent. It seems to me that when entering a chinese tea shop an offer of tea would be nice. It was a Monday afternoon and we came around 1 pm ish from San Francisco. My friend and i drove all the way just to get some good quality tea as we know that this place sells Taiwan tea. Immediately, we grabbed some tea bags. At the door, it posted free tea tasting with any purchase. Because i was curious on some other type of tea, i asked the lady there if we could try some tea. She said if you just planned to taste tea and chat in the shop, we didn't want that and we charge $5 for tea tasting. I said no problem with the money. Then she brewed a type of green tea for me. I asked to try one more tea and she started pouring some of the tea from her cup to brew for me. I felt so intimidated and insulted, but i did not say anything because she was the only person there. I moved to california 9 years ago from new york city; i'd been carrying around little packets of various oolong teas, little captions on the different brands like "glance into a cup of dreams", and "serve with ancient poetry"; I always kinda thought it was a bit more psychoactive than just a good cup of coffee. I teach IT classes, and at my very first class in fremont, I pulled out my packets of oolong tea and briefly explained, and this one guy from esurance stood up and said "the best place in the world to buy oolong tea is three miles from here" so we all got in the car and went. We sat down with the people, who will bring out their favorite verisons of the top tea there, lee shan oolong, from mt lee shan in taiwan. I never knew it mattered, but it's the altitude, the soil, and the rain that year, as far as I can tell. We sit around that chinese tree table and try some spring leeshan, some heavy and darker winter leeshan, and if there was too much rain on mt lee shan, they'll break out the stuff from mt fu sho shan, next mtn over, and it's different a little bit. Oh the things I've learned about tea from these kind ladies, I think they are related to the people who farm my lee shan. You gotta be there to get the best stuff, like one day they said "he's a good customer, you can tell him - we have 5 pounds left of virgin oolong", "virgin" means the plants are less than 5 years old. Yes, it is one o the best teas. Since then I've of course tried other places, and once gave a guy going to china a hundred bucks to bring me back a sample of the best oolong. I've never seen anything that beats this stuff, they have it, and they know it. read more

Good quality tea, though it is not possible to buy any amount under 1/4 lb (~4oz). All properly sourced by the store, in great airtight packaging. The owners will gladly tell you any information you want about any of the teas, and make recommendations (the organic golden red is fantastic). However, in my case, the cashier was confused by the fact that debit cards do not require signatures, and copied down information from my driver's license. This is not, as far as I can tell, necessary for either legal purposes, nor is it useful for store record-keeping. Good tea, but odd transaction policies. read more
