There was quite a line.. but for a local coffee house you know this means the place is good! I got an iced dirty chai and a banana chocolate chip cookie! The chai was amazing!!!! The woman at the counter told me the chai is made in someone's backyard! It was so good and rich! The banana chocolate chip cookie was freaking amazing! So soft and had so much flavor! Very cute cafe in a great little shopping / drinking / dining strip (I think there was also a yoga studio...). Our group came in during a wet weekend, so while there was plenty of seating outside, most of it was inaccessible. Inside the cafe is cozy and covered in plants. Many tables were claimed by laptops (which I get since it's a very chill atmosphere), but it was tricky for us to grab a table for a quick brekkie. We squeezed in and enjoyed a selection of toasts, bagels and pastries. Really enjoyed my order of the salted caramel latte (w black salt!), burrata toast w egg and banana chocolate chip cookie to go. Cute little coffee shop with a very welcoming and friendly staff. The outdoor is very spacious which is nice for big groups. I tried one of their specialty honey lavender iced lattes and it was just OK. Couldn't really taste the honey or the espresso, it was more milky than anything. This is the 2nd location of 11th Hour (original one is in downtown Santa Cruz). It's been open for just under 2 years, and for those that are familiar with this side of town, it used to be another local spot called Kelly's Bakery. This newer 11th Hour is such a beautiful & welcoming space with its large courtyard area with built-in benches & tables that remind me of a giant Jenga or Tetris game! All the repurposed wood and many plants give it a very earthy, warm and natural feel. I love how there's a tree right smack in the center of the shop when you walk in! Locals, frequent visitors and honorary residents alike know that there is certainly no shortage of world class coffee shops and coffee roasters in Santa Cruz, so the competition is fierce yet the community here seems to also embrace that and share the love. That's the local Santa Cruz vibe! 11th Hour is literally across the street (in both directions) from other great local coffee shops, but they've also figured out how to stand out while still staying true to themselves and the SC spirit with their impressive brunch menu, creative drinks, events like open mic and trivia nights, and I believe they offer booze as well (my hubby saw this, but somehow I was so fixated on the plants and coffee that I missed that!). They serve up some mean matchas in addition to espresso/coffee drinks too. We particularly love the Flat Green & Conflicted Hippie! They serve up 2 different avocado toasts: the Original and the Simple. The food isn't great, and most of the pastries have been a bit disappointing. Some of the specific drinks are good, though, like the raspberry mocha or the chai. With so many coffee shops in the area, why go to 11th Hour? For one, the setting is nice. There's not much seating inside but the outside is inviting and cozy. And the menu is more varied than neighboring coffee shops. But what about the coffee? These days the house brew appears to be a combination of coffees from Brasil, Guatemala, and Ethiopia - it's an easy drinking concoction called The Theory Of Everything. I bought a bag of The Origin to make at home -- an Ethiopian which was very flavorful, almost fruity. There's a wide range of specialty coffee drinks. They use a heavy hand on syrups so I ask for it to be less sweet. They seem to specialize in ceremonial grade Matcha with cool names like Flat green, Ice green bee, and Conflicted hippie. On to the food: Overnight oats- solid, even tho the online menu doesn't say it comes with granola, the in store version did BUT they were out of it. Peanut butter is subtle. Brunch bowl- very good. Generous amount of avocado and nice to be able to add dressing yourself. Was surprised the dish wasn't premixed. Avocado toast- smallish portion but very tasty. The balsamic glaze amped it up a notch Turkey pesto panini- the only disappointing item. Not bad just bland. Took half home and added some Dijon. The staff is quite nice but is easily distracted -- or maybe they are all just good friends so are always socializing. read more

Hubby and I decided to pop in for breakfast on a Friday morning. After scanning their delectable display case we both decided on the Cinnamon Roll. The best part about this cinnamon roll? The thick layer of cinnamon inside! And this is a big one too, it will keep you nice and full! My hubby loved the buttercream frosting! I would highly recommend this small business that opened it's doors on you guessed it, the 11th hour! They have 2 locations in Santa Cruz, sweet bubbly staff, a very nice outdoor and indoor seating area, decor, flowers and plenty of gift options! I ordered the hot honey latte, which was delicious on its own! The tahini brownie I enjoyed later for dessert, and IT WAS DIVINE! Highly recommend it, 10/10 would order again. While I took my drink to go, I certainly understand the appeal of dining in - the ambiance was relaxed, with so much lovely flora inside (for decoration AND for sale), and ample seating inside & outside between the front and back patios. The employee who rang up my order was very helpful and pleasant; she even sold me on a lovely body oil I saw near the register (see my photo). My husband and I came to this location over the downtown location due to the remodeling and very limited food items. Upon arrival, the line was out the door and it was very busy. Once we got to the counter, we placed our order of drinks and brunch items from their menu. We got our drinks pretty quickly and the coffee is really good! One of the main reasons we decided on 11th Hour is for the really good coffee. We ordered a mocha and a vanilla latte with oat milk. For food, we ordered their brunch bowl and green eggs and ham. This location is smaller, having a few tables inside but several tables outside. The food took really long to come out. I had to go to the counter to inquire about our food long. We had our number on our table and employee's were looking at our number and walking around us. The person across from us also had to wait a long time for their food, not as long as our wait, but long enough. Once we did get our food, the brunch bowl was missing the poached egg and they were out of biscuits for the green eggs and ham. As much as I would like to come back to this location, I think I would rather keep going back to the downtown location. But I do recommend either location for their drinks. Nice place to come and get coffee. Shares a parking lot with El Sachichero. Staff is friendly and prices are decent. They roast their own beans and will grind them for you as well. I had them grind a pound of Dark Arts for me which is good. It's an Ethiopian and Guatemalan washed mix so even though it's a dark roast there's still some citrusy notes that come through. I ordered an iced honey bee latte and it was good as well. read more

11th Hour has the best coffee in Santa Cruz! I went to their west side location because of the construction at their downtown spot and I'm so glad I did. Cappuccino was made perfectly, espresso was not burnt nor cold. I got almond milk which usually is very difficult to foam but they did a great job. For food, I got the almond butter toast and I have mixed feelings with this but not because of the food itself--it was a great combo of flavors and they give you a ton of food so it's a good price. There was so much almond butter and banana and honey on my toast that it was dripping off the warm bread and made a huge mess. So tasty. But probably one toast could easily serve two people. Service was a little slow but it didn't bother me since I camped out for hours doing work in their cafe. Free Wi-Fi. Not enough outlets. I thought we found a new goto coffee stop. Coffee and the food are great. Unfortunately on numerous occasions they have given very little care toward food allergies. My 25 and 27 year old daughters are more then old enough to convey their food allergies, and twice now, we have had to go to the ER after consuming food at this location when the staff were specifically told of food allergies. We tried to call from the hospital to let them know of the incident and could reach no one, absolutely no one on the phone. We left messages and not even a return call. We want others to be aware of their lack of concern for food allergies as we know how dangerous it can be. We will need to find another fun coffee goto that has staff that gives a crap if your child dies. read more

There's a bunch of outside seating, which is nice. The music was too loud for my taste, but it always is. There's plenty of parking available. And it's close to one of the e-bike docks around the corner. The food is good. The baked goods are tasty. The chai was the spiciest I've tried in Santa Cruz so far, still perfect for my low spice tolerance. Water can be self-collected in large disposable cups. read more

Great quality coffee and cool vibes. They also offer beer and wine. There's a cute outdoor seating area for working or chilling. Be prepared to pay a bit more for your average joe here. Ordered a "conflicted hippie" latte which is a Matcha latte made with three alternative milks (oat, soy, and almond). The quality of the matcha is too notch but the texture of the "milk" was "off". Not because they were alternative milks (I usually make mine at home with oat) but I more-so a substandard technique. I prefer the 11th hour location that's downtown because I think the baristas there have their skills dialed in a bit better. I'll probably still return to this location at times because it's conveniently located between a popular gathering spot (situated between breweries and restaurants) and it's super convenient to grab your beverage here and sit outside with friends. read more
