This was my first time ever at this particular coffee shop, and I was so happy I found it when I did!! I was looking for something heavier than a pastry and found out they had breakfast sandwiches and their own bagels! Score!! To my surprise, they also had specialty drinks so I had to get the Blondie latte with a plant-based milk. I asked the lady if it was sweet and she said it came with a tablespoon of brown sugar. But they could switch it and make it a teaspoon instead. Perfect! As I got my latte it was amazing!! The espresso used in the latte was actually a mild roast coffee so I really liked the flavor of it roast and it was Organic!! Win-win!! Since I'm trying to avoid dairy at the moment, I asked if I could get the lox bagel sandwich without cream cheese and replace it with avocado. The lady at the register asked another barista behind her and she said it was fine! Perfect!! You also get to pick out what type of bagel you want, so I wanted to try something different and got the sun-dried tomato and basil or something like that! The sweet flavors of the herbs in the bagel and then the juiciness of the tomato baked into the bread once simply wonderfully with my breakfast sandwich!! There's a cute little waiting area inside with at least 10 tables or seats along the breakfast bar counter and a couple of tables. There's also a very large outdoor seating area, but I was cold so I wanted to sit inside to warm up my body since I was going to go to yoga on the beach. I had only planned on eating half the bagel sandwich but honestly, it was so good when it came out. I sat there for a good 20 minutes until I ate the whole thing!! Lol so funny!! I was so stuffed I had to walk an extra mile before I could start my yoga on the beach! As I sat enjoying my breakfast sandwich, I got to overhear the two barista's talk about music!! One of the baristas allowed her device to search new genres of music while the other barista specifically looked up different genres of music she liked and then would tell her device to find music of that era. Such a good find for a little neighborhood coffee spot. Service here is always amazing, but this time I wasn't able to stop in and was so happy to see they deliver to the area. Everything showed up warm and delicious. The bagels... seriously the best. Always. Soft, fresh, and somehow hit every time. Breakfast burritos are also a go-to. The chorizo is super flavorful and the vegan soyrizo option is also pretty good. My order came with "have a turtle-ific day" written on the cup, and when I took the sleeve off there was a cute little turtle drawing underneath. Totally unnecessary, totally appreciated. This is such an amazing coffee shop! But come for the homemade bagels which you can do with cream cheese or as a breakfast sandwich. The bagels are thin and airy and so good. The coffee is a very light roast so tastes very mild. We were there on a Sunday and it was crowded but they are well staffed and the food and drinks come out quick! If you see a line, don't be discouraged. This is definitely worth the weight and they will likely get through the line quickly. read more

I can't really give a review of the establishment itself but, we were able to order breakfast and have it delivered directly to the lobby of our hotel which was very cool. We were too tired to get up and look for food so a place that offered delivery was great. I had the Kitchen Sink breakfast sandwich which had bacon, avocado, tomato, jalapeño, chives & cream cheese. It was good and very filling! I also had a cafe au lait which I don't see very often on menus. Also very good. Aside from bagels and sandwiches they have a few breakfast burritos and a bowl. Love to visit this place when I go to Santa Cruz. I have had their breakfast burrito and kitchen sink bagel. The portions are always very generous and very good value for money. Perfect if you are starving or great hangover cure. Pro Tip: have them cut the bagel and/or burrito in two ahead of time so you can take your extras home or donate the half you don't finish to the homeless further in town. My favorite bagel shop! I first tried this place 5 years ago when I visited Santa Cruz and I loved it so much that I had to come back! This time I tried the Kitchen Sink Bagel and the Works Burrito. Consistently disappointed with my experience at Firefly. I have gone multiple times (perhaps I am a sucker for punishment), and I am let down each time without fail. Let's start with the service: poor. There often seems to be a vibe that you must fit in order to be given the full "customer service" experience here; if you do not fit that vibe, good luck to you. Beverages and food take an egregiously long time to come out (be prepared to wait 30+ minutes on the weekend), and the end result just really is not worth the wait. Bagels are often dry, and the tea-based beverages (with the exception of their chai) are nothing to write home about. I'm giving two stars for their Chai, because that is genuinely excellent, as well as the cute patio. Firefly has lots of potential, but needs to refine their customer service (among other things), particularly with the prices they charge. read more
