Meredith was super…read moreresponsive from my first inquiry and really held my hand through the whole process as my event took shape. She was even familiar with the venue I was using and was able to provide specific A/V advice and guidance. She helped me add personalized bonus questions, and flawlessly incorporated my list of general interests into every round! The difficulty level was perfect and everyone participating had an amazing time. Everything took place seamlessly during the event - our host, Jude, was so professional, prepared, and helpful. She even paused for cake and took a group photo for us! The time flew and I am already plotting out what my next excuse for a trivia party will be :)

Back when games were in person, you could find an NYC Trivia League game on any day of the week in multiple areas--the hosts are friendly and fun and the questions are challenging and diverse (from Shakespeare to Real Housewives)! They even have league standings and playoffs! How cool!!! What has been even more amazing is their tenacity through these really challenging COVID times. NYC Trivia League has kept me sane with quizzes 3-4 times per week that are absolutely FREE! What a wonderful organization for giving us something to do and a way to virtually gather our friends together. I recently hired them for a private virtual birthday trivia event and it was an AMAZING time! Friends joined from all over the country and were so impressed at how well run the game was and how incredibly fun! They even tailored so many questions to my favorite things--I CANNOT RECOMMEND THEM MORE! Please support this amazing organization virtually and when they are back in bars!

The space is long but not narrow, with different sections and a good amount of seating. Very comfortable and low key. We had a great time at a holiday party via my office.

I've not been drinking so I was good to drive. Cutting down to the FDR I spotted this place and found a spot right on the block. I went in and was greeted by a friendly Irish waitress. Who sat me at great table. I ordered a seltzer with lots of cut lemon. The steak sandwich looked great with mixed vegetables. The crowd was very eclectic. An older neighborhood crew at the bar and younger people having a blast at a table. The food came and it was delicious comfort food. The steak was tender and tasty with mushrooms, onions and brown gravy on delicious hard bread. The veggies. Mostly broccoli were seasoned perfectly and tender but not overdone. There is a sign mentioning Sergeant Alvin York, the famous World War I hero who captured over 120 Germans after storming a machine gun nest and entrenched enemy single handedly. That's who the place is named after. Overall a cozy Irish bar and grill, reminding me of places I knew in the Bronx growing up.

By all means it was a pleasant evening so everyone and their third cousin's brother-in-law was ready for an (almost) summer beer. My friends and I arrived around 6pm and the tables inside and out were packed, and that says a lot since there's seating for around 150 people counting the family-style, picnic tables and benches. The industrial chic inside spaciously fits a long cement bar seating about 10 bar chairs comfortably, and what looks to be about a dozen beers on tap on the wall behind the bar. We managed to find a few outdoor benches to squat with our bags and took turns grabbing drinks and food. They're strictly a brewery so no food is available directly from Focal Point, you can BYO Food from other food spots, bring a picnic, or grab something from food trucks if nearby. But beer, BEER they have a lot of, and it's darn tasty. The staff at the bar were friendly and quick to get my order to me. While I only had a small pour of the ILL Niño 7oz $5 (also comes in 16oz $9 / 23oz $11 / 64oz $32) it was a refreshing, medium-bodied lager--citrusy and a perfect complement to the warm weather and sunset breeze. Definitely recommend as an easy, low-key spot to hang with some friends. Will be back to try some other beers!

There is plenty of space inside or outside, depending on the weather. This is so much nicer than when it was Iconyc and situated in the smaller building next door. Additionally, there are plenty of food options around so if you want pizza or tacos with your beer, you're in luck! Bartenders are nice and I love that they have sinks outside of the restrooms. I like to wash my hands a lot so this is very convenient. I'm a fan of Focal Point.
