I must have passed this diner a thousand times because it's tucked away in a shopping center across from Target, 5 Guys and other name brad stores. And if you're like me and prefer locally owned, well it just gets lost. I implore you not to make the same mistake. Even though it's in a shopping center, make the effort to come in. A cute diner vibe and super friendly staff just like you would expect. And the best part is breakfast is served all day! We ordered the huevos rancheros, and chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. Both were outstanding. My husband said the chicken fried steak was the best on the Eastside. Cinnamon roll coffee cake for an a breakfast appetizer. Yes, we do that sometimes. You should try it. But I digress. Coffee cake was soft and fluffy and they don't skimp on the sweet crumble top. The only reason for 4 stars is that the service was really slow. Getting our coffee took what felt like forever, and if you're a diner quick, hot never ending refills on coffee should job #1. Food also took too long to come out. I imagine if the coffee had come earlier to keep us company it wouldn't have been so bad. They were undercooked and had no flavor. Putting onions and peppers into the mix does not hide just plain bland food. They claim they bake them first then cube them and recook them. My husband and I visited today after an early morning Tiger Mountain hike on the 4th of July. We were starving! The menu is vast. So many options! From lemon ricotta pancakes to a prime rib scramble, they literally have something for everyone. Love the mimosa options! I had the classic Eggs Benedict (they have two other versions -chorizo and salmon that sound great also). It was delish. As a connoisseur of hollandaise sauce, I have to admit this was not the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had, but I still cleaned my plate. My husband ordered the Joe's Special. Today, the scramble dish had prime rib instead of ground beef. My husband was in heaven! As to service, I could not be more impressed. Note that 12th Ave Cafe IS OPEN during Covid for TAKEOUT and DINE-IN! 12th Ave. Cafe used to be my favorite breakfast place in Issaquah. I would come here with my high school friends for diner vibes and a filling breakfast. This is my first time back in four years, and I was unfortunately disappointed by my last meal here. My friend and I ordered takeout for pick up at 10am this past week. We pre-ordered online through GrubHub. I ordered a Trucker's Combo ($10.95) which is a biscuit with gravy, 1 egg, 2 pieces of sausage, and spuds. My friend ordered Sweet Pea's Favorite ($11.45) which is an omelette with spinach, bacon, and cheese and comes with a side of pancakes and fresh fruit). The confirmation email said it would be ready between 10-10:20am. The order was ready when it said it was. However, when we got to the park 10-15 min later, the food was already cold since the takeout containers were not well insulated. Additionally, they didn't provide utensils or napkins in the bag and forgot the gravy for my biscuit. They didn't have any butter or jam in the bag either (they used to have really good berry jam), and so I ended up eating a cold, dry biscuit on its own. The eggs were bland with no salt or seasoning. The potatoes and sausages were fine, but also cold. My friend was fine with her meal, but her food was cold too. I was mostly disappointed because 12th Ave basically gave me an Egg Entree Special ($6.95) which is one egg with two sausages, spuds, and a biscuit, except I had to pay an additional $4 for it. In hindsight, the trucker combo isn't that great of a deal and probably isn't worth an additional $4 just for gravy. For $11, I was highly unsatisfied with my meal. I know that times are hard right now and I would love to leave a positive review, but 12th Ave needs to step it up with their takeout game. I know I didn't ask for butter or jam, but utensils should be a standard and it is definitely their responsibility to make sure everything the customer paid for is in the bag. We were craving breakfast so we decided to check this place out. I think I pass by this place so many times but didn't even notice it existed. We decided to order the steak and eggs and a customize omelette. Both of which came with "spuds" and bread. I substitute one of the bread for pancakes which was nice. Portion was pretty generous the meal and we still have leftovers so that was nice. The steak was tender and cooked medium rare (which is what I order). They definitely forgot to season it though cause it was very bland. There was no flavor to it at all. Since the potatoes and eggs lacked seasoning as well, the dish overall was just bland. Once I put some salt, it was good. The omelette was ok, not really an omelette cause it ls basically a piece of flat egg wrapped over a bunch of filling. It was not a comprehensive dish. This place is a good, unpretentious dinner in Issaquah. A big point in its favor at the beginning. It's not a restaurant pretending to be something it is not. After having gone past this diner many times while shopping, it's located in the same general complex as REI and Safeway, I finally decided to stop by and have breakfast the other day. I was not disappointed. I grabbed a seat at the counter, which was clean and had the traditional selection of condiments (i.e., hot sauces, salt, pepper, and jam) and also gave a view of what appeared to be a clean, efficient kitchen. I ordered an Italiano omelet with the house spuds and a pancake. The omelet was a good example of a diner style omelet, as opposed to a French omelet. It came with the sort of fillings that you would expect: italian sausage, onion, mushrooms, and provolone cheese. The omelet had a good consistency. It was slightly dry, compared to a french omelet, but it's still definitely within the texture range for a diner-style omelet. The fillings were what you would expect from a good diner omelet. They were good; but, nothing to write home about. The pancake was good. It came with butter and syrup. I don't think the syrup was maple; but, it didn't claim to be. It was a decent syrup that was what it was; but, combined well with butter for the sort of taste you expect from dinner pancakes. The potatoes, called "12th Avenue Spuds," were the best of the meal. Basically, cubed potatoes with onions and green bell peppers (sometimes referred to as Obrien potatoes). The potatoes tasted fresh and were well prepared with a pleasantly soft bite. The bell peppers were also cooked to a point where they were firm, still tender enough. After talking about the food, it's necessary to mention the cooking and waitstaff. From my view, the kitchen crew seemed to be working at an efficient rate, and the kitchen looked clean and well organized. The waitstaff (very important at a diner) did their jobs well. Efficient service combined with the appropriate human touch. I noticed that at least one waitstaff member was bilingual (English/Spanish). Of course, this isn't mandatory, but it's good to see. All in all, this place is worth coming back to for breakfast when you are in the area. read more

We visited during a busy Saturday morning and knew it would be a wait, but when the owner came over and instructed his hostess to seat two tables ahead of us, because he's friends with the other customer, I spoke up. Not to make a scene, but out of self-respect. He actually tried to tell me they were there first. They were not. I wrote my own name in the waitlist when we came in, and confirmed there were no names ahead of me. And then he told me it's my choice to eat there. Well, he's got that right. I came with one eggs, the steaks, hash brown potatoes and I chose the buttermilk biscuits. Overall the entree was good but the biscuits were a bit dry and not flaky at all. I'm not a big fan of the cubes vs the shredded hash browns but they were OK. It may be better they make them as O'Briens style with some diced pepper and onion to give them some life. I had to put on a sweatshirt and put thick pj's on my baby. The place was an icicle. A customer after me walked in and asked for them to turn down the AC, and the waitress was snarky and said how she likes it extremely cold in the restaurant. 2. They charged me for an item i did not receive... I ordered a chocolate milk for my baby, did not receive it. Told waiteess before paying to make sure the item was not going to be charged, she took a look and said it is not on the bill, and yet after insisting on getting a physical receipt it was on there. I was charged and they refused to refund me! 3. Receipt was not given to us until we asked (5-10 mins after paying and waiting for the receipt) 4. No physical receipts given. We were told the total as our payment card was slipped on a phone in her hand. 5. Stole money... special of the day was written above as $19.99 and i was charged $22.99. When i asked why she charged us the price on the menu when the board says otherwise. She told me to pretend the specials board thats hanging off in the center of the restaurant in huge letters doesn't exist. I told her thats not okay because it does exist and why dont you correct if its wrong. Also the meal i got was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and vegetables of the day but same snarky server said that i cant get that even thought it specifically says it in the menu thats the sides of the dish. 6. False advertisement. Shisters. 7. Waitress ignored us as we stood in front of the kitchen with two babies waiting for a refund. Upon asking her she ignored me and told me she is too busy. Then she started fighting with me, told me that i could leave, i told her not without our refund and receipt. The entire staff just ignored us. Was talking crap about us to our faces..... manager was unreachable by phone. No one knew where they went or how to get ahold of the person in charge. 8. Was not given a refund receipt. The server told us she cant and that was that. We just left. At this point you charge us for the wrong pieced meal, not give me the entire meal, charge me for a product that we did not receive, charge $2 for half of a bun, HAVE A BUN, because his burger bottom bun was soggy and tiny, he was holding the burger by the meat. 9. Server was just disrespectful, arrogant and incompetent to do her job. She kept giving the wrong meals to the customers. A few customers when we got to the restaurant were upset about the service as well. We heard what happened to them and it was pretty similar to our story.. we should have just left the restaurant at the beginning stages. First meal out since we came back home and what an awful and unpleasant experience. Shocked. I think i might take this further. I just dont feel right. Waitress was excellent! I had coffee and never had an empty cup which means a lot to me! I had the Meat Lovers Omelette and it was beyond excellent!
