The Black Duck is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant and bar in Issaquah. I can vouch for the mushroom burger and the duck pizza, as well as some of the whiskey cocktails. The burger is thick and really juicy, great bun and aioli. The fries are perfectly crispy. The pizza had a really great, I'm assuming wood-fired, crust. The duck was tender and sweet and there was a lot of arugula. It's a sparser craft pizza, which is just so delicious when you are looking for something a little heavy but not over the top. While they boast about their craft beer offerings, they have a great cocktail list as well, and I love that they have a specific whiskey cocktail section as well, with a few that are less common at some bars. The Brooklyn is probably my favorite, but you can't really go wrong. Also, a fellow patron asked for a Toronto and the bartender was happy to look it up and make it for him. And what about the atmosphere here?! It's so wonderful in summer! With its narrow design giving a sense that an entire wall opens to the outside and the patio that extends beyond, it feels Ike you are vacationing somewhere tropical and beachy. This somehow combines really well with the industrial vibe of the interior. They also have some TV's for sports. The service is very friendly, attentive, interactive, and helpful. One thing that was consistent across my three visits, however, was the feeling that the place is always understaffed, so things tend to move slowly. I'm not sure this is the case, it's just the feel you get when it happens the times you visit. This is a bit of a double-edged sword though, since it's such an easy place to just want to sip and nibble slowly while delving into conversation. So, that's not enough to detract a star for now, and honestly I'm already thinking about when I get to eat here again! read more

Came here for the second time, after really loving it the first time, to celebrate a friend's birthday. When ordering, we explicitly told the waitress my friend was allergic to nuts. We ordered the pasta plate which doesn't have the ingredients specifically listed on the menu. The dish arrives, my friend takes a bite, and immediately her lip swells up. Turns out there were pistachios sprinkled throughout. She ended up having to leave the dinner, as it was getting difficult to breathe, and the night ended with her in the urgent care. We called in a to go order for a pizza, a sandwich and onion rings. We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes, and so we arrived 15 minutes later, paid and then waited for our order. We could see a pizza box and to go box sitting on the kitchen counter the additional 20 minutes that we stood there, just waiting for the waitress to hand us our food. My family and I wanted to check out a local place for dinner so we dropped by this bar at around 7:30 on a Saturday night. The place was packed and we ended up having to wait by the door for fifteen minutes before being seated. I wish there was more space by the entryway because it made the wait so awkward. Our server, Kaylee, was super friendly once we got seated and patiently answered all our questions. She brought over every bottle of alcohol my mom and dad asked about and even let her smell them. The menu was so huge it was difficult to decide on what to order. My family settled on sharing the hot chicken wings in buffalo sauce appetizer and the triple pig pizza. Both tasted exactly like we expected and were flavourful and delicious. For dessert I asked about the chef's special which ended up being apple pie à la mode! I was super excited to order it and it was the best apple pie I've ever had in my entire life. Even my mom who doesn't normally like pie was totally obsessed with how yummy it was. So many great sounding food and drink options in a very cool dining space. While not my first choice (my daughter decided), we went with the Woodland Fig Pizza... it was amazing, so flavorful but not heavy...pretty solid value at $23 as it was enough for dinner and 3 slices leftover the next day. As for drinks they have a very good cocktail list and an amazing selection of beers, I was so happy to order a Pliny the Elder, tough to find that in a bar. Recently returned here to meet up with some friends on a busy Tuesday night. The place was packed! Luckily we snagged a table against a wall that was convenient. Honestly, great night out. The food was tasty, the service impeccable, and the area still charming. I ordered the old fashioned burger and this monster of a burger emerged that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I ended up cutting it in half intending on eating it that night, but the leftover side was gifted to my bestie who devoured it and told me how much he loved it. It was more enthusiasm from him in regard to a cheeseburger than I ever have seen. He would like to return for that alone. Our server was wonderful. She was cheery, timely, and very efficient. She never let drinks go empty and checked in with us the perfect amount of times despite it being very busy. As we ate on the nearby tables, one of our party bit into a metal strand, found in her duck poutine. The manager was apologetic and kind, replacing the dish and offering free drinks on our next visit. But metal in food? That's a huge problem, in any scenario. I started with the bartender choice cocktail who h was a blueberry rum yummy treat. The second one was a vodka, prosecco grapefruit flavored drink. Sounds weird, but was very refreshing. The pizza was alright. A very thin crust and the fig balsamic honey was delicious. I was hoping for a large pile of arugula on top. But nope, just a sprinkling. Oh well. Fun vibes here for sure. Friendly service. On this gorgeous sunny afternoon they got slammed, so the service was a bit slow. But really nice. And it's pricey. Be prepared to spend over $14-$16 per drink. My hairstylist recommended this place to me because of how good their deviled eggs are and that the ambiance felt so cozy. Well, she was right! However, I was disappointed with the entreé. Foods: Onion rings: super big and crispy, good flavor and the sauces were both solid as well. Pepperoni pizza: good size/topping amount and flavor, overall decent pie. Brisket dip: au jus was delicious and the meat was stacked high. Bread was a little bit dry, but overall would order again! I've gone to The Black Duck probably 20+ times over the years. I used to love and recommend them. However, I'm never going back. My last several experiences were really bad, a waste of money, and the only thing I felt upon leaving was regret for hoping that they had returned to their former glory. But no.... Their food has gotten more expensive and the quality has gone way down. But beyond this, the service was terrible the last few times I went. On my final visit, I was seated and sat waiting for more than 30 minutes for someone to take my order. I watched others order and get served and all my attempts to flag down service were flat out ignored. We ended up leaving without ordering. On the bright side, this led to my discovery of a fantastic Italian restaurant nearby who immediately seated and served me with excellent food. I count myself nearly a regular here. Great bar chairs that are fun to sit on. Usually very crowded. I like their whiskey drinks. Pretty much all are good. Few different variations on the old fashioned. Infused anything is good. For food the deviled eggs are usually awesome. Pizza is good, Sammies, burgers all good. We have not been back to this restaurant in a while and decided to give it a try again. We got seated quickly. The service was SLOW and unfriendly servers. The food was good. However, they put the sandwiches in this metal tray that cheapens the appearance. We had the bacon burger which was tasty even since it was not medium as requested. The garlic fries were room temp so not that great. Asked for a side of sauce and was not aware it cost $0.25. it would have been nice if the server would have informed us of it. Also got the Cubano with side salad instead of fries. The sandwich was good but the salad was drowning in sauce. There were flies flying around so not sure how healthy that could be. Overall, servers could be friendlier, nicer and more informative. Will not recommend but if you do go make sure you ask if there's an up charge and check your bill. read more

This time it was hot out and they do not provide any shade or fans for the patio seating. It came with a bleu cheese ale sauce that we both didn't like, so we asked for ketchup to make the tots more bearable. The pepperoni pie was thin (which I don't mind), oily, and the crust was hard to finish. I usually enjoy my pizza crust, but this was too hard to bite/chew. It may be just me (seriously), but I not realize that we were literally going to eat at a bar. And not because it's "21 and over" but because the place is literally a thin long strip like a traditional bar area, but is extended just a little wider with a thick cotton tent-like enclosed area, as you can see in the picture to provide a larger space, and protect from the elements. I do not have an issue with that but if you're expecting something different, I just wanted you to be aware. Also, because of the structure that I just explained, if you go, when it's cold outside, you are going to be very very very cold. They didn't seem to have any of those heaters that attach to the ceiling and they were not offering any of those individual heaters that restaurants seem to have now that sit on the floor near your feet. They did have blankets folded on every single chair in the place. Even the waitress was shivering I'm not able to comment on the food since my husband has a ton of temporary food restrictions so after sitting down and spending some time looking over the menu, we weren't able to make anything really work that we would really enjoy eating, so we kindly declined and left. They were nice about it. So the two big takeaways are for you to be aware that you can't take anyone under 21 and that if it's cold, dress, super warm because you're going to be cold read more

If you're willing to wait for amazing food and drink...you've got your place. Step 2...drinks. Order a good drink from the bar that's recommended by the bartender, or ask for a flight of beers recommended by the waitress. I did the flight. My waitress recommended I get all of the IPA beers on the menu plus the Pilsner they were featuring. It was amazing. Step 3...food. The whole menu rocks. You can't go wrong with a burger and fries. The salads and wings are also very good. This is the kind of place I would go out of my way to eat at. A group of 4 will easily spend $125 for dinner (including drinks/meal/tax/tip). My go-to place for great beer and food in Issaquah! The gastropub ambiance is good for both a casual outing or a fun time out, and it can get pretty busy at times. Indoor and outdoor seating with bathrooms inside. Their rotating beer menu is bound to have something you'll like but their cocktails are also surprisingly good. I was planning to get the duck gravey poutine, but then there unique Zucchini fritter Bahn Mi caught my eye. My wife wanted one too, so I got one with added duck and my wife got one with avocado. Both were extremely delicious, and very filling. Served on typical Bahn Mi rolls, with aioli, pickled carrots, dikon and halalpnos. Large just zucchini patties, and large amounts of duck or avocado... wonderful. I also got a "Cali Creamin" nitro ale. It was silky smooth, and had a slightly nutty and sweet taste. One artichoke sandwich, one chicken sandwich with onion rings. I would recommend both the chicken sandwich and the onion rings. Fries were good too.
