Went here to celebrate my birthday on a Wednesday. I made reservations via their website for 7:30pm. That seemed to be a good idea because even though it was a weekday people were waiting. I did put on the reservation I was celebrating my birthday and at least 4 of the employees told me Happy Birthday throughout the night including a manager who made it her point to come to my table and tell me. They also put a candle in my dessert. My waiter ( I wish I remembered his name) was great and very personable. We shared a couple of laughs. Now let's get to the food. I had a pineapple-esque drink as well as my bf had a blueberry mule which were both delicious. We got the cast iron cornbread for an appetizer. Definitely would recommend it was so soft and had a nice crispness on the crust of it from the skillet oh and it comes with honey. Me and my bf got the same thing for our meal. Filter mignon, mashed potatoes, and we added greens and the curried corn on the side. The steak was cooked great. I loved the mashed potatoes you could tell they were from scratch. The curried corn (please order this side) the sweet and then spice from the curry is such a delicious combination. Green beans had a nice snap to them as well. Brownie a la mode for dessert. Delicious! The vanilla ice cream tasted like it was freshly churned that day. Everything was just fresh and even the small details of like writing on my to-go box the date and what was in it caught my attention. Or that the bags they used for the to-go boxes were made from recyclable paper. I noticed the small things. Definitely recommended especially for any type of celebration. First, I have say that I'm a "person of size" for which there are no at-table options. The booth seating is impossible as the tables are bolted to the floor and they have no chairs anywhere In my case this forced us to sit and high seating at the bar. Please address this as your food is excellent - just the seating is inaccessible for anyone is fat. Now on to the food. Wow. Wow. Wow. The deviled eggs appetizer is outstanding. My friend has the iron skillet cornbread (which I sampled) - also wow. I ordered the filet - and I'm challenging on how I like my filet cooked. It came out exactly as ordered and the accompanying grilled asparagus perfect. My friend's salad was very much enjoyed. Visited the Charlotte area last week, my friends who live in the area suggested we have lunch at this eatery. Food was excellent, jalapeño corn bread was amazing. Our waitress was very helpful with the menu to the point I felt like she was trying to sell me a car or time-share condo. Paid the bill and got home. I have eaten here several times before and always pleased. Today I had Mother's Day lunch with another couple. Staff were very attentive and friendly. We had reserved a table so we did not have to wait. The restaurant was packed and somewhat noisy. The menu, special for Mother's Day, featured their most popular and requested cuisine choices. Everything fresh and nothing frozen. Some fish we were told flown in over night. Our orders consisted of rainbow trout with kale salad, I substituted a Caesar salad instead with a extra surcharge. House salad or Caesar salad $6 extra as a side salad with an entree. Also ordered were rib eye steak with homemade mashed red potatoes, seared scallops with cheesy grits, wild mushroom artichoke soup, desserts of strawberry short cake and a signature dessert of banana cream pie. Everything was delicious, plated attractively, good portions, came out hot and moderately priced. Soup was creamy and tasty, steak cooked to order, trout tender, scallops just slightly peppery for one of the diners, grits and potatoes yummy. The salads great with plenty of delicious dressing. The desserts large enough for two people to share. Ice cream over cake over strawberries and a pile of whipped cream with chocolate and caramel drizzles, over the pie, oh yum! We came here for my father in law's birthday and parents' anniversary. We decided no appetizers and our entrees came out about twenty minutes after we put in the order. I ordered the pan seared scallops that came with a yummy mustard sauce and a side of large asparagus. The scallops were tender and perfectly cooked and I loved that the mustard sauce wasn't too mustardy sour. We ended up with a slice of peanut butter cream pie for dessert. Absolutely delicious. We've eaten here several times and it's never left us disappointed. Our last visit my husband had ribs that were so tender they were falling off the bone and I had a wonderful tuna dish. But the best part was the service. Christina was so attentive but never intrusive. In fact, numerous servers circulated the whole time we were there, checking drinks and keeping the table uncluttered. Nice place for lunch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. The menu is full of fresh and interesting items. We sat at the bar, where the service was great until a few more people bellied-up to it, then we waited too long for everything. We stared with the deviled eggs. They were good, but nothing special. I had the prime rib sandwich which was great. The meat just melted in my mouth! My companion had the veggi burger. I tried a bite and it was very good; almost meat like. She ate the entire sandwich and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, she had severe stomach issues for the next two days. We cannot positively ID the vegi burger, but based on what we ate and shared that weekend, we also can't rule it out. You typically need reservations for this restaurant. Our family went to a late Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. I had filet medallions with a demi-glaze sauce and mashed potatoes. Packed bar with absolutely no social distancing. Bar tenders and half of staff not wearing masks. They had an inspection from the health department a few days ago. They passed without any mention of masks at all. I have no idea why that was in a county and state that require that a mask be worn. For 10 years I went here at least once a month. Never again. I am telling everyone who has common sense to avoid the place like the plague (no pun intended). Unless you are immune to COVID, stay away. If they tell you that they don't know who cannot wear a mask. The people are mostly young men and women. As a physician, I am confident that there is no valid reason for this many young people who are employed there to have a medical reason not to wear a mask. read more

Disappointed. Not with the food or the service - those were great. I'm disappointed that roughly 50% of the staff, including kitchen staff, were not wearing masks. My pregnant wife got us a reservation for my birthday today. With Governor Cooper's executive order almost a week ago mandating masks to be worn, we thought it would be safe. Wrong. We were greeted by a mask-less hostess. At our seat, our first server was wearing a mask. Phew. But then the principal server came around and she was not wearing a mask. Even the manager was not wearing a mask. We hurriedly and distractedly ate dinner so we could leave. At the end I provided feedback to the manager that we do not plan on coming back until all staff wear masks and are taking safety and health of their diners seriously. He told me that those not wearing masks have all taken exception to Gov Cooper's order for medical reasons and don't have to provide any evidence. Half of your staff has medical issues that prevent them from being able to wear masks?! If that's true, you need to take care of your employees and get them the treatment they need. Please. If it's not true, then just be honest - you don't want to wear a mask and you found a loophole. I read the executive order after dinner. It says that a person can take exception to "not wear a Face Covering due to any medical or behavioral condition or disability (including, but not limited to, any person who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious or incapacitated, or is otherwise unable to put on or remove the face covering without assistance)". Sounds serious! Every employee I talked with that didn't have a mask on seemed like they were breathing fine and didn't have any issues. They were at work! Gov Cooper's order also states "Under this Executive Order, all North Carolinians will be on the honor system about whether or not there is a reason why they cannot wear a Face Covering. Everyone in this state is asked to tell the truth and if they are healthy and able to wear a mask-to wear a Face Covering so that they do not put other people at risk of serious illness and death." I don't like being lied to. From what I saw, your organization is not making an honest attempt to abide by the Governor's order. It put your staff and me and my wife in danger. Please reconsider your position on making masks optional for your staff, or you will likely lose much more business. read more

Very sad to report! I reviewed this place prior because we loved it. The food here is delicious! However, today (6/27, after Governor Cooper's mandatory mask ordinance) we went to grab an early dinner and was greeted by a lovely unmasked young man! As we proceeded to our table, we were greeted by another lovely unmasked staffer. When we inquired why 96% of the staff did not have on masks, the server, stated he had to get his Manager. A few minutes later, another wonderfully unmasked young man stated that the staff that considered themselves exempt, did not have to wear masks and that management was not allowed to inquire further. We looked towards the kitchen and noticed NO ONE had on a mask- not the chef, food preparers, no one. Which means everyone has an exemption?? Without medical certification or interactive process for a reasonable accommodation? At that point, we decided to leave. We were not willing to risk our health- not even for good food. We will never return! Instead, we headed over to Firebird's in Stonecrest where everyone adorned masks - including the kitchen staff, hosts, bartender, servers, etc! Thanks for caring Firebird's! 131 Main, we're so disappointed in your lack of care for public health and direct violation of government orders. Not a business we'd ever frequent again.
