It's a pleasure to share our DELIGHTFUL 1587 DINING EXPERIENCE! Our group chose 1587 to celebrate a very special birthday - and it was PERFECT! We received a warm greeting at the front door, were promptly escorted to a beautiful table where we were met by our amazing waiter Jeremy! Cocktails were just as fun as on my first visit. After previously trying the Alchemy and Queen Bee - I went straight to the Queen Bee this time - beautiful garnish and refreshing. Others enjoyed the Curious Elixirs Rosy Rose, the Heartland Highball and Noble Margarita. Jeremy expertly highlighted the menu and offered suggestions. He explained each dish in detail when asked, almost as if he was preparing it himself! Two crispy salads were enough for our table of 7, but my favorite was the Chop Salad - loaded with tomatoes, artichokes, olives, chickpeas, salami and pepperoncini. Entrée favorite was the perfectly seared Diver Scallops with a lemon beurre blanc sauce. Also outstanding was the steak which came sliced and prepared exactly medium rare as requested. The sides elevated our entrees with standout silky mashed potatoes and grilled carrots. Just when we thought we couldn't eat another bite, here came champagne and dessert for the BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! Don't miss out on the moist chocolate cake with luscious icing or the warm butter cake with fruit compote. I wanted to like the chocolate chip cookie in cast iron skillet - but recommend going for the other desserts first. Big let down. 2 stars for the ambiance and service. 1. They don't take reservations for solo diners. When I walked up to the front door, I was met by "security" and was told he thinks there is a spot at the bar. He then takes my name and number so I'm thinking waitlist. Then a member from the hostess team comes out and brings me to the hostess desk. I then stand there and ask if I need to be escorted to the bar or is it open seating. Weird first interaction from outside to the hostess desk. Off putting too. 2. Service at the bar was good. There was also live entertainment. Very good looking people all around and dressed to impress. 3. Big red burger at $38 was trash. Pickles are nice but make the burger soggy very quickly. I've had a very similar quality burger at Shake Shack. Also, the meat wasn't rested because after 2 bites there was a pool of juice on my plate. Wagyu or not, that shouldn't happen. 4. Butter cake was really bad. Luke warm, tasted stale and not moist or rich as a butter cake should be. Idk how you mess up what essentially should be a pound cake but with more butter. 5. The prices don't match for the quality of food. You're paying for the name and ambiance. Do better 1587. In it's current state, this is a Capital Grille with nicer furniture. read more

This was our fourth visit to 1587 Prime, and it reminded us once again why it has become one of our favorite celebration restaurants in Kansas City. We were celebrating our anniversary, and from the moment we arrived, the evening felt special. The experience started with complimentary champagne as we were seated upstairs, followed by a warm welcome from the GM before we met our server, Hannah. I've always believed a great server shapes more than half of the dining experience, and Hannah was exceptional in every way. Her timing was flawless, her recommendations thoughtful, and she brought an upbeat energy that made the night even more enjoyable. She struck that perfect balance of attentiveness without ever hovering. If you dine here, ask for Hannah. Having sampled many of the signature dishes over multiple visits, we still couldn't resist ordering the Wagyu Carpaccio again. The combination of tender Wagyu with cornichons, horseradish, and mustard creates an incredible balance of richness, acidity, and bite. Honestly, we debated ordering a second serving. We also tried the French Onion Soup for the first time, and it was outstanding. Deep, rich flavor from the caramelized onions and thyme, topped with smoked gouda, gruyère, and toasted sourdough loaded with bubbling cheese. Fair warning: it arrives absolutely molten hot, but once it cools slightly, it's fantastic comfort food. On our very first visit, we ordered the Truffle Fettuccine after hearing it was a favorite of Travis Kelce, and it has remained one of our favorite dishes here. The black truffle and parmesan create a simple but incredibly flavorful pasta that's hard not to crave again. The Wagyu bone-in ribeye we enjoyed on a prior visit was no longer on the menu, so this time we stepped up to the 32-ounce Prime Porterhouse from Foote Ranch in Manhattan, Kansas. It was beautifully prepared to our requested temperature with an excellent char, then sliced in the kitchen before being served. The quality of the beef was obvious in every bite. The portion was so generous we enjoyed leftovers the next day and even brought home a bone for our pup. To finish, we returned to the Butter Cake, which has been a favorite since our first visit. Warm, rich, and incredibly decadent, it was elevated even further by the berry compote and caramel sauce that accompanied it. Then Hannah surprised us with a complimentary crème brûlée for our anniversary, which was a perfect ending to the evening. Every part of the night felt polished without ever feeling stuffy. Came here last minute on a Sunday night and ended up having a really fun experience at 1587 Prime. The food was honestly pretty good--nothing mind-blowing, but definitely solid and worth it. The real standout for us was the service though. We had Tori as our main server--she was good and gave some helpful recommendations. But Lexy truly made the night. She brought out our utensils, kept our water filled literally the entire time (never had an empty glass once), and just had the best personality. Super friendly, attentive, and easy to talk to. After dinner, she even took us upstairs and showed us the trophy room, which was such a cool touch and not something you'd expect from a normal dinner. She made the whole experience feel way more personal and fun. Overall, food was solid, but the service--especially from Lexy--was what made this place stand out. read more

We had a good experience at 1587. We made a reservation for a Tuesday night and I'm glad we did because it was busy when we left. It is an elevated experience from the very beginning - the way they greet you outside the restaurant. The decor is beautiful and I really enjoyed the live music. Service was perfect. We didn't want for anything. We ordered the meatballs for an appetizer, I got a filet, my husband got the burger and fries, and we shared broccolini. Everything was very good, except the burger. It had very little flavor. My main reason for the 4 star review is the price - everything, including the burger needed to be exceptional to get 5 stars for the price. I went into this experience with doubts since there have been so many haters online. People saying it's too $$$ for what you get. And although on the higher end, the haters can get lost. We had an amazing experience. The ambiance was elevated with a dress code recommendation. The very full restaurant on a Thursday evening was filled for all kinds of swanky dressed people. The service is fantastic and they definitely tried to not only meet or requests but anticipate it. Cocktails are delightful and would highly recommend the martini service. We ordered apps, steaks and sides and split between our party of 4. By far, best crab cakes in KC, loaded with real crab and the lobster rolls can definitely compete with those found in New England. This was some of the best steak I've had in KC. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sides delivered and were also delicious. It was all the pieces so I ended up giving a feedback to our server. She was an amazing girl. She did something that we didn't want it. She said she'll take it off the bill , well to be honest with you coming to an expensive restaurant we will not think about money we will think about the service food ambience, out of which I was disappointed with the food to begin with The second part of the disappointment was my steak. I felt the steak was not up to the mark, was very pricey for the size of it. That's not the concern again, but I felt it was way too salty at some point and it was overcooked in some areas. It almost felt that it was crunchy and then I had to work through it. We also ordered scallops, and I'm not even kidding that it was not completely cooked. I felt I was chewy and raw and I don't mind eating raw scallops. I've had it before the sushi places, but this was expected to be cooked so I think there's a lot of improvement but at the same time there are other better things that you guys offer the ambience that drinks was absolutely delicious. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant; what I will say is that it's an experience. The staff and servers were top-notch, from the moment we entered the door. All were impeccably dressed, polite, professional, and knowledgeable about menus items. We tried a few cocktails, and they didn't disappoint.The French Onion soup was some of the best I've enjoyed in the city, and the salmon was fresh and flavorful. My husband enjoyed the bone-in strip (be sure to add on the tableside flambé experience!), and noted its' tenderness and overwhelming flavor. I want to preface this by saying my wife and I have traveled the world extensively, visiting 48 states and all continents except Antarctica. We also lived in Las Vegas for a dozen years. And have a clear grasp of what a high-end steakhouse is and should be. We were so excited to visit 1587 Prime! We managed to get a reservation three months after they opened, but then had out of town visitors show up on the day of our reservation so we gave it to our next-door neighbors who enjoyed their dinner, but had largely the same comments that I'm going to make. When we entered the establishment for our 8:45 PM reservation, we were greeted kindly by the gentleman at the front door and the ladies at the hostess stand. We were about 15 minutes early so we were invited to grab a drink at the bar. My wife ordered the Alchemy and being a bourbon guy and a huge fan of number 87, I ordered the Big Yeti. Our bartender was amazing and put on a great show. We are still talking about those two cocktails the next day. They were truly on another level, seldom reached by mixologists. What an impressive start! They made us tab out rather than transferring the ticket to the table, which was a minor inconvenience, but also a detail that shouldn't be overlooked. Then we moved to our table and met our sever, Rob. He was delightful. We asked him if we should order things as we wanted to or if we ordered the entire evenings choices, could he time them out so we wouldn't be rushed? He assured us that he preferred to have the entire order and deliver each course when we were ready. Many high-end steakhouses prefer this so that's what we did. The complementary bread basket was simply divine. Perhaps the best roles we've ever had. Then things started to go downhill as the shrimp appetizer, and the salad arrived at the same time. Those are two different courses. They were not timed well. The one redeeming feature was that both of them were dynamite. I know there isn't an ocean anywhere near here, but that shrimp cocktail was the best one I've ever had in my life and I order it almost every time I go out. Better than Gulf shrimp in Louisiana better than shrimp in Florida, California, Houston...anywhere. I don't know who their supplier is, but those folks deserve a medal. The chopped salad was a little too tangy and tart for my wife's liking, but it was right up my alley and so I ate most of it. Well that's not true. I ate about a third of it before our steak arrived. Another fail. This was also not well timed. Any server worth his salt knows that you do not bring the entrée when guests are still not even halfway through the salad course. I don't understand what these people were thinking. Rob sensed that something was wrong and asked if he could do anything, but our bone in sirloin was already sitting in front of us and already cut into pieces. The couple dining behind us were having a miserable experience and complaining to the wait staff a lot so I didn't want to add to their stress. I just smiled and nodded that everything was fine. That was probably my bad, but I don't usually like to make wave waves. At least we had a good steak to dive into. Except... our medium rare steak was rare and cold. It was room temperature. Literally. I could tell by the coloring on the outside that it had been cooked at some point. But not recently. Perhaps Peter Luger is onto something with the plates they warm in the oven before they put their steaks on them. So, we ended up having the same experience as our next-door, neighbors and many, many of the reviews that I've read. Everything was great at 1587 Prime, except the steak. Cold stringy and not cooked as ordered. It's a recurring theme at this place. I was hoping that was old news but it's still happening long after they opened. They really need to find chefs who know how to cook a steak. You can't charge Vegas prices if you can't deliver a decent steakhouse experience. And yet they are. The mashed potatoes were outstanding. My wife is still talking about them. SO good! Actually, we would return. We'd love to have some more cocktails at the bar and some very good appetizers, including the best shrimp cocktail ever. We couldn't get reservations on the day and this was the closest reservation we could get. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio, which was perfectly chilled and my husband had an iced tea. We ordered the appetizer meatballs and they were delicious! For our mains, my husband got the steak frites and I ordered the truffle fettuccine. The fries were amazing, and definitely the best part. My husband's steak was slightly overcooked and the truffle fettuccine was good, but not great. A few people who worked there asked us if we were celebrating anything. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine if people ask if you are celebrating something and then don't follow through with anything. There has been a lot of talk about the restaurant since it opened, and honest I am surprised by some of the negative aspects of a few of these reviews. Other than a slow start at the beginning of our experience, everything else was amazing. Drinks: I ordered the Noble Margarita. It was very green and had a lot of flavor. I am particularly fond of spicy margaritas and this had a bit of a kick to it. My fiancé ordered the Big Yeti which was their smoked old fashioned. I was impressed by how much he liked it since he usually prefers non-smoked drinks. Food: To start we had the Lobster Roll appetizer. These were the cutest little things. Mini lobster rolls with caviar on top. I thought they were delicious. A perfect amount to share between two people. I ordered a French Onion soup. I personally wouldn't put it in my top 5, and I was a little surprised because the reviews were raving about it. My fiancé enjoyed it more than I did, so he ate most of it. I had the Twin Lobster Tails for dinner. Now a lot of people talk about this restaurant being overpriced, and some of it probably is, but twin lobster tails for $76 is lower than what I have paid in the past at a few places. On top of that, these were by far the best lobster tails I've ever had. Usually you have to add the butter to get some flavor, but these had enough flavor on their own. I loved the charred bits on top and whatever seasonings they used. Just a hint of lemon was all I added. My fiancé ordered the Delmonico medium rare. He said it was cooked perfectly (a little more towards rare), and that it was very good. I didn't try any, but he seemed happy with it. For sides we had the mashed potatoes and spinach. The mashed potatoes were so creamy, soft, and flavorful. If I hadn't been full from everything else, I would have eaten it all right then and there. The spinach could have used a little more salt, but I did enjoy the spicy kick it had to it. Is this a restaurant for every day? No. It's definitely a special occasion or a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Will it ever be easier to get reservations? I hope so. Live music came on periodically once an hour and I loved that we could vibe with the music, but then had time for more intimate conversations between crowd engaging performances. Food: 1587 wagyu Meatballs- I think this is a standout dish, very delish, great portion size. Whipped ricotta: SO good! Crowd pleaser with our table. Bread was maybe a bit firm for my preference, but really good overall. 8oz filet: OMG so good. I do think the best steak I have ever tasted, cooked perfectly with bone marrow butter- YES, HONEY! Mashed potatoes: HELL YES. Broccolini: This one I didn't love, needed to be cooked a bit more to soften for my preferences. Would not order again. Grilled carrots: These were okay, nothing special for me. Drinks: NOBLE MARGARITA, I ordered two. A bit different than a classic marg, can't stay I have had something similar to this before. Visiting Kansas and I really wanted to give this place a fair shot, especially after hearing so many good things and the reason we all know behind 1587, but my experience at 1587 Prime was honestly disappointing. I stopped by several times yesterday hoping to get a walk-in table. Each time, I was told the only option was to sit at the bar, which I couldn't do since I had my two underage daughters with me. I stayed polite, kept checking back in person, and kept getting the same answer. On my last attempt, a man walked up right in front of me while I was at the host stand. I watched him pull out a stack of $50 bills and wave them at the hostess. At first she told him there was no availability, but as he kept flashing the cash, she brushed me off again, saying nothing was open. Seconds later, she walked him and his group of four to a table and slid the money into her coat. Seeing that happen right in front of me was not only unprofessional but really unfair. I questioned it, and the staff immediately called the manager, Hanna. After speaking with her, it was hard not to feel like this kind of thing is normal there. She didn't seem apologetic and the only thing she could offer was a table at 11 PM. After mentioning again that I had two young daughters with me, she pushed it to 10:30 PM, which still wasn't realistic and honestly felt more like a way to end the conversation. At that point, I no longer wanted to dine there. If this is the first impression at the door, I can only imagine what the rest of the service would be like. I also didn't feel welcomed, and I don't want to eat somewhere I'm clearly not wanted. For the record, this isn't our first steakhouse. We dine everywhere, from local spots to high-end steakhouses and have never encountered something like this. Unfortunately, 1587 Prime just isn't worth it. My cocktail had fake, plastic flowers wrapped around the stem. Dumb at best. However! It was a tasty French 75. Our server was lovely as was the staff assisting in dining room. I found it odd that a restaurant of this caliber would have a maître d' who wore tennis shoes when guests are schooled on attire. I know it's picky but at these prices and for the experience 1587 is aiming for... it's fair. The food was solid, just nothing more special than the bistro in the tourist town I live in (NW AR) but thrice the price. My daughter's steak was ordered med-rare and was very rare. Mine was great. The rolls are so good! The live music is lovely but annoyingly loud and reminiscent of being on a cruise. No fault of the performer's who were great. Truly... it's just too loud with speakers aimed directly at the tables. But it did serve to help us get out before our two hour time limit was up. The decor was second only to the lovely wait staff. I truly don't want to come across as it was a bad experience. But it's just so dang expensive for it to be anything but "on-point." Getting a reservation here felt like winning a tiny lottery, which makes sense because the place is new and everyone seems to be talking about it. Once you're inside, the space really is gorgeous. The only downside is that the tables are pretty close together, so it's not quite as private or cozy as you might expect for the price point. Service was great, though. Our server stayed on top of drink refills and checked in just the right amount without hovering. The food was solid overall and the portions are no joke -- the sides are huge and definitely sharable. My only real critique is that the steaks leaned a little salty for my taste. Even with that, it still felt like a nice night out. I'd go back for a special occasion or if we just want a pretty spot with good service and big portions. read more

Finally!! After several attempts on wait lists I got a rez at the bar on a Thursday evening. The decor, vibe and energy are incredible. Drinks are good. Andrew and Yazmin will take great care of you if you are posted up at the bar. I agree with all the other reviews - the food is good, some just meh. My friend ordered the waygu 8 oz filet. She said it was good. The roasted brocllini was yummy. The Mac n cheese was bland. The sides are a la cart and family style. The entertainment added to the vibe. Lee Langston was the vocalist and his voice was so silky. The 3 piece band that accompanied him was also very good. The cocktails were delicious. The bar is fully stocked with all your favorites and high end spirits. It's definitely an experience I recommend for anyone who's curious. read more

I know this is a fancy new place, but honestly the reservations site is a horrible mess. Other than that, the meal was really good. Our server, Ross, was super chill, had great recommendations for the drinks and was a breath of fresh air. We started with the alchemy, which was good. I got the Showtime, because I like rum drinks over Whiskey drinks any day, and it was really good. Then My wife ordered the Queen B and she liked it enough to order a 2nd one. Since there wasn't another rum drink on the menu, I tried the Big Yet. It was OK. The smoke didn't really flavor the drink enough and it was already watered down by the time I got it. As for the food, there is a TON of truffle EVERYWHERE. I think it's a nice thing for a splash, but even the fries had it and it was just too much. We tried the truffle fettuccine and again TOO MUCH TRUFFLE...but it was tasty. My wife got the 8oz Filet and it was delicious! I got The G.O.A.T. And it was very good. The bacon was delicious, the pastrami was delicious, the burger itself was good. Honestly it wasn't really worth the price to me. For dessert we got the Apple Streusel with ice cream and it was very good. This says it has pecans, which I do not like, but was minimal so I was extremely happy. Will I comeback, YES!!!!! I'll just try something else on the menu. And yes, I know, why get a burger at the steak joint. I get it, but I've been told by lots of people that if the burgers are fire, then there's of the food will be too. This was not the case. That filet was DELICIOUS! read more

I had really high hopes for this experience but felt completely let down. The "cool" atmosphere at 1587 Prime unfortunately felt a bit disjointed. While they are clearly trying to avoid being a "stuffy" steakhouse, the decor (like exposed, hanging speakers) felt uninviting and a bit unfinished for the price. ​The $165 Wagyu ribeye was a letdown! Under-seasoned and served pre cut and lukewarm. However, the burger was a hit, and the live singer was a total standout who made the night feel special. Great for a drink and live music, but the kitchen needs to tighten up the consistency on their high-end cuts. read more

Great all around experience. From the atmosphere, cocktails, food, service, and entertainment, 1587 pulled it off. We ordered: The Alchemy - Taylor's Drink Big yeti - Travis' Drink Wedge Salad Truffle Fettucine Delmonico18oz Bone Marrow Sauteed Spinach Apple Pie Everything was flavor packed and delicious (except the spinach... but perfectly blanched). We loaded up some gift cards to our inkind app purchased from Costco and at the time inkind also had a promo for $50 off $150 purchase (which you'll easily go over). It helped my wallet out but expect to pay $$$$. read more

We had Mikey and Reece (not sure of spelling of name) but they were both our bartenders and were absolutely amazing. So kind, helpful, and energetic. We were visiting from out of town and had a great time. Everyone we encountered was great and just had such a good vibe. Will definitely be back once I visit again. read more

Gorgeous restaurant inside. So new, I think they are still shaking out front of house service. I was pretty annoyed last night at opening that they were checking in at the front of the carpet keeping the line from rain cover. Should check in closer to door or inside where you have to visit desk anyway. Sprinkles aren't generally bothersome but as an eyeglass wearer, sucks to keep wiping off raindrops. Or get some umbrella loaners. Most of the steaks (including steak frites when I inquired) on menu are Snake River Farms which is ok for most people, but I was visiting from PNW where we can buy them in our grocery stores and definitely not my favorite. I ordered the strip which was one of a couple steaks sourced in Kansas. Ordered medium rare, I think it came out closer to medium. Delicious steak and grateful it was not seasoned much and had a very nice crust. Had to ask for salt on the side which turned out to be Maldon. I think that servers should offer the salt explicitly. Perhaps 1587 expects most people to order a sauce. Wish they offered a loaded baked potato as I really didn't enjoy the twice baked potato which had a really gummy texture. I'd much prefer a drier, flakier or smoother texture on it. Next time I would just order the mashed potatoes. I would have ordered the Australian ribeye if I had someone to share it with a salad and a side. That is definitely one of my favorite steaks in the world generally. Maybe over time, 1587 could offer a wider range of dry aged steaks and in house dry aging. Service at the bar was good and they accept inKind payment. I called to inquire about walk ins a couple days in advance when sold out online and they said it would be fine but they could also reserve me a seat at the bar which I chose. The bar was mostly full with people waiting on their tables and some walking I believe. They were set up for live music but no one was playing Sunday evening. I parked on the street for about $5 for two hours because website didn't indicate validated self parking and I prefer not to valet. read more

Was able to get a reservation easily through the inkind app staff was very friendly and food was great. Atmosphere was beautiful. Only complaint was upstairs there is only 1 restroom for both men and women so there was always a wait at the door. read more
