Our group of 6 made reservations for a friend's birthday celebration on a Sunday evening. Only reservation available was at 8:30 pm. I checked both on line and called the restaurant hoping for something earlier, to no avail. I had to give my credit card number to secure my reservation. Every day after making the reservation i received a text message reminding me of the cancelation policy and dress code, a bit excessive in my opinion. Upon arrival we were ushered to our table by the hostess. I noticed that the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full, begging the question why couldn't we have an earlier reservation? Once seated it was impossible to have any conversation as the music was so obtrusively loud. We asked our server and even the manager if the music could be lowered (we figured this wasn't an unreasonable request because by this time, most of the restaurant was empty. There were maybe 2 other tables of people still dining. Our waitress even admitted that her voice was hoarse because she had to speak so loudly over the music. I asked why they keep the volume so high. She said "we keep the volume high to create a lively atmosphere". That's not lively. That's obnoxious. Music in and of itself creates a lively atmosphere, not the elevated decibles. We ordered cocktails and appetizers which were good. I ordered the French onion soup and the filet. Soup was good, not the best I've ever had, but good. The steak with the Au poivre sauce was wonderful. None of us had room for dessert so i can't comment on that. As huge Chiefs fans, we were excited to experience it--and every detail, from the seating and service to the incredible ambiance, was top-notch. The petite 6-ounce filets, both with and without the shrimp topping, were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The potatoes and broccolini were honestly some of the best we've had anywhere. We finally got a reservation and we're more than excited to check out 1587. The service from entering the restaurant, checking in with the hostess, waiting at the bar for the rest of our party to arrive, through being seated at our table, to placing our orders and being served was impeccable!! Our server Rob was very informative when asked questions about drinks and food items on the menu but also checked in regularly to see how our meal was going. The ambiance was upscale, great date night spot with live music performed by Lee Langston starting at 7pm. Dress code business casual or Chiefs attire on game days. We parked in the self park, but the restaurant provided a discount which was nice. Now to the food. For an upscale restaurant I understood the idea behind the menu but not so much the quality. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't over the top for the pricing which is the reason for my 3 stars. All of our food items came out hot which was a plus but I felt the Togarashi Fried Chicken wasn't seasoned, it had a little spicy kick but the meat wasn't seasoned. I also think there should be a secondary dipping sauce option other than the honey trio. Having the sides as a shareable portion was a plus but one note might be to mark that there is spice where applicable so that people have an idea ahead of ordering. My sister found out quickly that the broccolini was spicy upon her first bite and had to send it back with the request to make a new one without the spice. My brother was very satisfied with the big red. It was the star menu item at our table along with the rolls. I'd say overall it was worth the visit atleast once. 1587 Prime is a nice addition to the fine dining scene in KC. Can be a hard reservation to snag, but worth the wait. Ambiance is nice, perfect date spot or special occasion dinner. Menu is perfect for sharing amongst the table. We started with a few apps including crab cakes, lobster rolls, and meatballs. All delicious! For the mains we split the boneless ribeye, cooked to perfect medium rare, and we added the table side butter service. Definitely worth it! All the sides were delicious as well. SERVICE: The front hostess was great and got us situated right away. Our server (and helpers) started out great and got our drink orders started. After that service was a bit lagging. Food was phenomenal. The dinner rolls were to die for. Perfect balance between salt n sweet. The Meatball appetizer was great and the sauce alone would have been enough with the rolls. We split the Waygu Filet and Bone-in Strip. Perfectly seasoned and having it sliced was easy to share among 3 people. We even had plenty of the strip to take home. This was our fourth visit to 1587 Prime, and it reminded us once again why it has become one of our favorite celebration restaurants in Kansas City. We were celebrating our anniversary, and from the moment we arrived, the evening felt special. The experience started with complimentary champagne as we were seated upstairs, followed by a warm welcome from the GM before we met our server, Hannah. I've always believed a great server shapes more than half of the dining experience, and Hannah was exceptional in every way. Her timing was flawless, her recommendations thoughtful, and she brought an upbeat energy that made the night even more enjoyable. She struck that perfect balance of attentiveness without ever hovering. If you dine here, ask for Hannah. Having sampled many of the signature dishes over multiple visits, we still couldn't resist ordering the Wagyu Carpaccio again. The combination of tender Wagyu with cornichons, horseradish, and mustard creates an incredible balance of richness, acidity, and bite. Honestly, we debated ordering a second serving. We also tried the French Onion Soup for the first time, and it was outstanding. Deep, rich flavor from the caramelized onions and thyme, topped with smoked gouda, gruyère, and toasted sourdough loaded with bubbling cheese. Fair warning: it arrives absolutely molten hot, but once it cools slightly, it's fantastic comfort food. On our very first visit, we ordered the Truffle Fettuccine after hearing it was a favorite of Travis Kelce, and it has remained one of our favorite dishes here. The black truffle and parmesan create a simple but incredibly flavorful pasta that's hard not to crave again. The Wagyu bone-in ribeye we enjoyed on a prior visit was no longer on the menu, so this time we stepped up to the 32-ounce Prime Porterhouse from Foote Ranch in Manhattan, Kansas. It was beautifully prepared to our requested temperature with an excellent char, then sliced in the kitchen before being served. The quality of the beef was obvious in every bite. The portion was so generous we enjoyed leftovers the next day and even brought home a bone for our pup. To finish, we returned to the Butter Cake, which has been a favorite since our first visit. Warm, rich, and incredibly decadent, it was elevated even further by the berry compote and caramel sauce that accompanied it. Then Hannah surprised us with a complimentary crème brûlée for our anniversary, which was a perfect ending to the evening. Every part of the night felt polished without ever feeling stuffy. Ok, so I'll be 100% transparent. I wanted this place to be just ok and over hyped. UNFORTUNATELY, it was amazing and going to cost me some money in the future because we are going back. I got the big yeti and my wife got the Alchemy to drink. This was the best whiskey drink I've ever had in KC, if not anywhere. The crab cakes could have been from the coast for all I've known. We chose a beautiful 2016 Cabernet along with a bottle of Pinot Grigio and started our meal with the diver scallops and tuna tartare. The tuna tartare was easily some of the best I've ever had. The table bread was fantastic, but I knew better than to fill up on bread with everything else we had coming! For our entrée, we ordered the porterhouse, sliced for the table and cooked to a perfect medium rare. We opted for all three sauces--the creamy horseradish, béarnaise, and chimichurri. The creamy horseradish was definitely my favorite. For sides, we chose the sautéed spinach, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes. I'll admit, I'm a bit of a mac and cheese snob. It was good, and I would order it again, but it wasn't overwhelmingly amazing. The mashed potatoes were a little too salty for my personal taste, although they were still flavorful. We ended the evening with the skillet chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream. It was exactly what you'd expect from a warm chocolate chip cookie and ice cream--and sometimes that's exactly what you want! Our server, Liz, was an absolute delight. She was attentive, personable, and funny, and we genuinely enjoyed our conversations with her throughout the evening. Exceptional service can truly elevate a dining experience, and Liz absolutely did that for us. Is 1587 Prime expensive? Absolutely. Would I go back? Also absolutely. In fact, I already looked for a reservation to return by myself in the coming weeks and was disappointed to discover that they don't accept reservations for solo diners. My only other critique is the entrance process. Speaking to someone before being let through the door, only to then wait for someone else to come get you, felt a little unnecessary and over-the-top to me. I've had a very similar quality burger at Shake Shack. Also, the meat wasn't rested because after 2 bites there was a pool of juice on my plate. Wagyu or not, that shouldn't happen. 4. Butter cake was really bad. Luke warm, tasted stale and not moist or rich as a butter cake should be. Idk how you mess up what essentially should be a pound cake but with more butter. 5. It is an elevated experience from the very beginning - the way they greet you outside the restaurant. The decor is beautiful and I really enjoyed the live music. Service was perfect. We ordered the appetizer meatballs and they were delicious! For our mains, my husband got the steak frites and I ordered the truffle fettuccine. The fries were amazing, and definitely the best part. My husband's steak was slightly overcooked and the truffle fettuccine was good, but not great. A few people who worked there asked us if we were celebrating anything. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine if people ask if you are celebrating something and then don't follow through with anything. I don't normally write bad reviews, but unfortunately, 1587 Prime didn't come close to hitting the mark for me--especially considering the price and the hype surrounding the restaurant. We made our reservation 30 days in advance and were asked if it was a special occasion. We said it was my wife's birthday. When we arrived, we were asked about the birthday several more times, so we assumed it would be acknowledged during the meal. Unfortunately, nothing was ever mentioned again. The restaurant itself is very cool and has a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, that was about where the positives ended for us. We were seated at a tiny corner table right next to the bar and directly in front of the band. The band was good, but simply too loud for that small area. The background music before the band started was actually very good. Then came the service. Our server came over after we'd been there maybe five minutes and asked if we wanted something to drink and if we were ready to order. We ordered drinks and wine, but were asked again about ordering almost immediately. We explained that we'd like to enjoy our drinks first. The restaurant's own website suggests planning on a roughly two-hour dinner, so we certainly weren't expecting to be rushed. We eventually ordered the Branzino based on our server's recommendation, and I ordered the 16-ounce prime bone-in strip. We also ordered broccolini and mac and cheese. The food came out incredibly fast--probably within five minutes--which made it feel as though much of it had been prepared well in advance. The Branzino was covered in a sauce or topping and had a very strong fishy taste. Our server had compared it to sea bass when recommending it, but it certainly didn't eat like sea bass to us. I ordered my steak medium-rare, but it came out medium-well. I sent it back, and within about five minutes another steak appeared. Unfortunately, this one didn't resemble what I expected from a 16-ounce prime bone-in strip. It was roughly three-quarters of an inch thick, tough, and seemed much more like a lower-grade cut than a prime steak. It was cooked around medium-rare plus, but the overall quality reminded me more of a steak from a mid-scale chain restaurant. At that point, I didn't want to send it back a second time. The sides were mixed. The broccolini was undercooked, while the mac and cheese was actually very good--creamy and full of flavor. We finished with the crème brûlée, which was easily the best part of the meal. In the end, our bill was around $360, and for that kind of money I expected an experience more comparable to Peter Luger or Mahogany Prime in Oklahoma--excellent food, excellent service, and an experience that feels special rather than rushed. Unfortunately, our experience at 1587 Prime felt rushed from beginning to end, and the food simply didn't justify the price or the expectations created by the restaurant's reputation and hype. I really wanted to like this place, and perhaps we caught it on an off night. But based on our experience, I left feeling that 1587 Prime didn't deliver the level of food or service I expected for a $360 dinner. read more

There has been a lot of talk about the restaurant since it opened, and honest I am surprised by some of the negative aspects of a few of these reviews. Other than a slow start at the beginning of our experience, everything else was amazing. Drinks: I ordered the Noble Margarita. It was very green and had a lot of flavor. I am particularly fond of spicy margaritas and this had a bit of a kick to it. My fiancé ordered the Big Yeti which was their smoked old fashioned. I was impressed by how much he liked it since he usually prefers non-smoked drinks. Food: To start we had the Lobster Roll appetizer. These were the cutest little things. Mini lobster rolls with caviar on top. I thought they were delicious. A perfect amount to share between two people. I ordered a French Onion soup. I personally wouldn't put it in my top 5, and I was a little surprised because the reviews were raving about it. My fiancé enjoyed it more than I did, so he ate most of it. I had the Twin Lobster Tails for dinner. Now a lot of people talk about this restaurant being overpriced, and some of it probably is, but twin lobster tails for $76 is lower than what I have paid in the past at a few places. On top of that, these were by far the best lobster tails I've ever had. Usually you have to add the butter to get some flavor, but these had enough flavor on their own. I loved the charred bits on top and whatever seasonings they used. Just a hint of lemon was all I added. My fiancé ordered the Delmonico medium rare. He said it was cooked perfectly (a little more towards rare), and that it was very good. I didn't try any, but he seemed happy with it. For sides we had the mashed potatoes and spinach. The mashed potatoes were so creamy, soft, and flavorful. If I hadn't been full from everything else, I would have eaten it all right then and there. The spinach could have used a little more salt, but I did enjoy the spicy kick it had to it. Is this a restaurant for every day? No. It's definitely a special occasion or a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Will it ever be easier to get reservations? I hope so. We had an amazing experience. The ambiance was elevated with a dress code recommendation. The very full restaurant on a Thursday evening was filled for all kinds of swanky dressed people. The service is fantastic and they definitely tried to not only meet or requests but anticipate it. Cocktails are delightful and would highly recommend the martini service. We ordered apps, steaks and sides and split between our party of 4. By far, best crab cakes in KC, loaded with real crab and the lobster rolls can definitely compete with those found in New England. This was some of the best steak I've had in KC. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sides delivered and were also delicious. Such a cool, upscale ambiance! From entering, all the details give an elevated dining experience. Live music came on periodically once an hour and I loved that we could vibe with the music, but then had time for more intimate conversations between crowd engaging performances. Food: 1587 wagyu Meatballs- I think this is a standout dish, very delish, great portion size. Whipped ricotta: SO good! Crowd pleaser with our table. Bread was maybe a bit firm for my preference, but really good overall. 8oz filet: OMG so good. I do think the best steak I have ever tasted, cooked perfectly with bone marrow butter- YES, HONEY! Mashed potatoes: HELL YES. Broccolini: This one I didn't love, needed to be cooked a bit more to soften for my preferences. Would not order again. Grilled carrots: These were okay, nothing special for me. Drinks: NOBLE MARGARITA, I ordered two. A bit different than a classic marg, can't stay I have had something similar to this before. I enjoyed it, not the best marg I've ever had, but enjoyed the different take. Not sweet at all, more tangy/ earthy. Such an elevated dinning experience! One of the most beautiful places in Kansas City! Perfectly placed, perfectly decorated, perfectly perfect! Delicious food, fantastic and prompt service, live music, gorgeous drinks, delectable dessert. Make the reservation now! We loved our appetizers, especially the meatballs, shrimp and crab cakes. Visiting Kansas and I really wanted to give this place a fair shot, especially after hearing so many good things and the reason we all know behind 1587, but my experience at 1587 Prime was honestly disappointing. I stopped by several times yesterday hoping to get a walk-in table. Each time, I was told the only option was to sit at the bar, which I couldn't do since I had my two underage daughters with me. I stayed polite, kept checking back in person, and kept getting the same answer. On my last attempt, a man walked up right in front of me while I was at the host stand. I watched him pull out a stack of $50 bills and wave them at the hostess. At first she told him there was no availability, but as he kept flashing the cash, she brushed me off again, saying nothing was open. Seconds later, she walked him and his group of four to a table and slid the money into her coat. Seeing that happen right in front of me was not only unprofessional but really unfair. I questioned it, and the staff immediately called the manager, Hanna. After speaking with her, it was hard not to feel like this kind of thing is normal there. She didn't seem apologetic and the only thing she could offer was a table at 11 PM. After mentioning again that I had two young daughters with me, she pushed it to 10:30 PM, which still wasn't realistic and honestly felt more like a way to end the conversation. At that point, I no longer wanted to dine there. If this is the first impression at the door, I can only imagine what the rest of the service would be like. I also didn't feel welcomed, and I don't want to eat somewhere I'm clearly not wanted. For the record, this isn't our first steakhouse. We dine everywhere, from local spots to high-end steakhouses and have never encountered something like this. Unfortunately, 1587 Prime just isn't worth it. Thanks for showing us what KC is really about... but we'll take our business elsewhere. read more

If we came here to celebrate our anniversary and I requested for a better seating, but we were so congested and suffocated that I could not even spread my legs and definitely not able to hear each other from the other side the people next to us were so close I asked for other seating, but unfortunately, they were full although I gave them a week of advance notice and at the same time I did see some tables with two people, but they were seated in a much better place. let's talk about the food we ordered crabcakes, which I felt was dry and falling apart the moment we started to cut it or eat it , then comes the wedge salad can you believe that the bottom of the wedge salad was bitter and it was not for one piece of it. It was all the pieces so I ended up giving a feedback to our server. She was an amazing girl. She did something that we didn't want it. She said she'll take it off the bill , well to be honest with you coming to an expensive restaurant we will not think about money we will think about the service food ambience, out of which I was disappointed with the food to begin with The second part of the disappointment was my steak. I felt the steak was not up to the mark, was very pricey for the size of it. That's not the concern again, but I felt it was way too salty at some point and it was overcooked in some areas. It almost felt that it was crunchy and then I had to work through it. We also ordered scallops, and I'm not even kidding that it was not completely cooked. I felt I was chewy and raw and I don't mind eating raw scallops. I've had it before the sushi places, but this was expected to be cooked so I think there's a lot of improvement but at the same time there are other better things that you guys offer the ambience that drinks was absolutely delicious. I had a big yeti. It was outstanding. To be very honest with you, I could give five star for the service, but there isn't a special area that I could rate the service for it was amazing. read more

Getting a reservation here felt like winning a tiny lottery, which makes sense because the place is new and everyone seems to be talking about it. Once you're inside, the space really is gorgeous. The only downside is that the tables are pretty close together, so it's not quite as private or cozy as you might expect for the price point. Service was great, though. Our server stayed on top of drink refills and checked in just the right amount without hovering. The food was solid overall and the portions are no joke -- the sides are huge and definitely sharable. My only real critique is that the steaks leaned a little salty for my taste. Even with that, it still felt like a nice night out. I'd go back for a special occasion or if we just want a pretty spot with good service and big portions. read more

We had a fantastic brunch today at 1587. We celebrated my nephews 16 th birthday. Our server Lauren was top notch, such incredible service . Matt and Riley provided excellent service to go with the delicious meal. My wife enjoyed her marbled chicken and I had the wagyu boneless ribeye. We split the wedge salad which was very tasty and fresh. I like that they use queso fresco instead of blue cheese.
