I have been going to Salon 1604 for about a year now and LOVE it! The staff is always friendly, it's easy to get an appointment, and the atmosphere is the perfect combo of calming and hip - they play a mix of great tunes :) Danielle is who I see and she is amazing; friendly, outgoing, and a very talented stylist (she does a great blonde!!!). I have also gotten a spray tan here and the aesthetician did a wonderful job. Prices are incredibly reasonable, even for the Keratin treatment (which I've also gotten). I love 1604!! Elaine has been cutting my hair for about 12 years. I'm very experimental with the styles but other than indicating if I want to grow it out or go short, I leave the style selection to Elaine. I have never left unhappy. Eddie is a god-send. He is arguably the best masseur in Massachusetts. I went in one afternoon because I had a seemed like a terrible migraine that just wouldn't go away. It turns out I actually had a sinus headache. Eddie spent most of the hour on my head and I left feeling like I'd taken a full course of antibiotics. It was incredible! Hillary is also great for facials and waxing. I've been going to 1604 for awhile and definitely think it's one of Quincy's best kept secrets. It's also one of the nicest salons, especially in Quincy Center. When you walk in, you almost feel like you are in a South End salon or someplace with that kind of vibe. Nice brick walls. Like the other reviewer said, a coffee machine, cozy waiting area. Chic but accessible! Every time I've gone in I've had a good experience and the people at the front desk have been friendly. Usually Helen does my hair but I have had other people cut it too (Elaine and I think the other owner's name is Tia). They were good, too. Love this place. I have been here twice now and both times I was impressed with their professionalism, friendliness, and the quality of the job they did. I have coarse, curly, color-treated hair and Taylor made it look fantastic! I got tons of compliments on the color for the first time in years. The prices are very competitive as well. Last night a lady came in for a blow-out in the middle of my appointment; turns out she was twenty minutes late so I ended up having to wait for my haircut. My stylist apologized profusely. Not her fault! But it was great to have the wait acknowledged. Excellent customer service. I agree with another reviewer about the "Zen" environment at 1604. The first time I was there, the sun was setting over beautiful, scenic Quincy Center :(, but the way the light reflected off the hardwood floors was magical. Try them out! I've been a loyal client to 1604 spa for over 5 years now. I first came in after having a horrible "blonde hair gone orange" experience at an upscale salon in Boston. I was nervous to start over with a new stylist, but Priscilla was great and very knowledgeable about blondes and hair color. She even let me go dark! (my other stylist wouldn't allow it) Now 5 years later, Priscilla has always been willing to deal with my crazy hair color ideas and changes every time I come in. A friend recommended me to Priscilla for hair color. I had been going to someone who no longer listened to me and my hair was coming out much too light for my complexion. In addition, the color was not even throughout my hair. Priscilla took the time to really listen and not only repaired the damage but totally nailed the perfect color for my skin color. I did not get a cut as was not needed at the time, but will definately go back to her for both cut and color, as understand her cuts are also terrific. First of all, I really did like the way my hair and make up came out. I went as a bridesmaid for a bridal party. The bride was happy with her hair and makeup and everyone was satisfied with the quality of the service. My review is for the very very poor way I was treated and for the complete level of unprofessional ism by the two Owners. The bride was quoted a price for hair and makeup when she originally booked the appointment about 6 months ago. The bride then found out that the salon raised their prices, now- good business practice would say that you would honor the price that she was originally given, but they wouldn't budge- at all. There was no reasoning with them. The bride wanted to go somewhere else because of the owner's rudeness and very poor customer service, but she already paid for her trial and was locked in. So we went in that day having experienced that- then when we went to pay for the makeup, the price was even higher!!! I didn't get lashes and my makeup probably took about 20 minutes total, it was only $10 less than the MOH's makeup that took a full hour. So, I just asked about the price increase, the receptionist brought over both owners and they created a huge unnecessary scene. They wanted to talk to the bride about this (the very last thing she needed on her wedding day), so I literally handed them my card and said it wasn't worth it to involve the bride over the price difference, just to please swipe my card, but no, they kept going with it, and then the owner went back and told the brides' mother what was going on- again, all i asked about was why the price was higher than even the second quote the bride got, that was it. The owner's literally almost ruined the brides day by wanting to involve her. The whole thing was uncomfortable and I wanted to get out of there!! A note to the Owners- if you kept the price that you originally quoted the bride, you probably would have gotten returning customers. But, because you nickle and dimed us out of a price difference of $150 total- that was really all it was of, but it was the principle of it- you have lost many many customers and referrals. I am getting married next year, as well as many of my friends- that is thousands of dollars gone. Also- they were taking our pictures for their website almost obnoxiously without asking. Just a very uncomfortable situation that could have ruined the brides day. Noone will be back. read more

Had a full spa day here a while back and it was phenomenal - specifically the facial and I believe the facialist (Hillary?) is still there. I did a massage, facial, mani and pedi and they allowed me to order whatever I wanted for lunch. The treatment rooms are well appointed and spacious. She did heated hand mitts with my facial and I think a foot massage too - it was just so heavenly I melted into oblivion. Booked in on short notice and totally worth every penny! read more

My only reason for writing this review is to make future customers aware of what they are paying for. You'll get good hair and makeup but what you won't get is respect and professionalism. It's your choice if you want to get half of what you pay for and considering this place isn't cheap, you may want to consider all aspects of the service you'll get at 1604 before going there. Despite the quality of work that comes out of that salon, the owners are rude. I was part of a bridal party and the prices for services were all over the place. From 6 months prior to the wedding up until handing over a credit card on the day of... the prices changed over and over again (and they kept going up). When we asked about the change in prices and why prices that were quoted 6 months prior couldn't be honored, it almost felt like we were ganged up on. Owners on one side of the desk, customers on the other... the conversation was not kept private and we felt belittled. The conversation happened between myself, another bridesmaid and the owner. The other bridesmaid did not feel the need to argue the subject any longer because of the scene it was causing and paid what she was told. The owner did not feel any remorse for the situation, didn't even explain why the prices kept changing and didn't offer any kind of discount for the hassle (not even to use in the future). She stuck to what she wanted... the money. It didn't end here. The owner felt the need to go back to the bridal room and continue the conversation with the mother of the bride and another bridesmaid. Again, her tone was not remorseful and it felt as if she was blaming us for the confusion instead of her changing prices. It put a minor hiccup on the day of my friend's wedding but it didn't affect the rest of the evening one bit. This seems to be a popular place in Quincy but I want to make everyone aware of my experience there. I will not think twice about going there again and neither will any of the girls. read more

I can not say enough good things about this Salon/spa! I absolutely love my colorist Priscilla! I've been a blonde for most of my life & I've never gotten so many compliments as I have since I started seeing her. I've actually referred dozens of people to her. I have to carry around her business cards because random people will ask me who does your hair. My whole family(& a slew of my friends) including my mother in law & sister in law now see Priscilla for all their hair needs. She is amazing & extremely educated on all the latest color techniques. Her talent is beyond compare! I'm disgusted by the obviously fake review written by a so called "client" Joanne R.. She definitely has never seen or met Priscilla because she is the most professional & attentive person who has colored my hair. She even invites me to bring in my 1yr old son to come to my appointments with me because she understands how difficult it can be to find a sitter. I would never allow my child to be around a person who would say things like that other person claimed. I can't say enough good things about my experience at 1604. Ive always wanted to be super blonde, but never had been able to reach that goal. I tried many salons, including fancy Boston salons but each time was more disappointing than the last. My hair had red tones suddenly after asking for blonde and the texture of my soft hair was ruined. I figured maybe my dreams weren't attainable since I have medium-dark brown hair at baseline. When I heard about Priscilla at 1604 and saw her work, I had to give it one more shot and I'm SO GLAD I did. She gave me the blonde I've been dreaming of and a fabulous cut that kept my length but also eliminated the awful fried ends from damage left by the last salon. Good, but I won't be back. After moving to Quincy, I decided to stop going to my James Joseph Studio on Newbury and look for somewhere cheaper in my neighborhood (my stylist at JJS was $55 plus tips). 1604's website said haircuts were $40 and up so I figured it was a good one to try. I got an appointment with Effie who had some good online reviews. I was right on time but there was about a 15 minute wait. I didn't mind, free magazine-reading time is always good. Effie was nice and knew what she was doing. I liked that she didn't try to talk through the whole thing, I'm not one of those people who spill their guts to their hairstylist. I liked the haircut, but was surprised when it was $50 (not the 40 I was expecting-- I guess she is one of the more experienced stylists). Next time I will probably try somewhere cheaper-- I shouldn't be paying Boston prices in Quincy unless it's my best haircut ever. Overall a nice place, with a more upscale feel than lots of Quincy Center places. But ask about prices when you make your appt. read more

For those that gave 1604 a bad review, they are totally wrong. I have been going to Laura for years for my eyebrows and was delighted to hear that she'd be at 1604 full-time as I live in Squantum... I no longer had to make the trek to Boston. She is the best around when it comes to waxing! I also had my hair (by Danielle) and makeup (by Laura) done there for my wedding. Since I had a day wedding, they opened the shop up an hour early for us (very accommodating). My bridesmaids, my mom and grandmother were more than thrilled with the way their hair and makeup turned out. And since I was paying for everyone, I was more than thrilled with the price they charged me... I was expecting double! Laura is also the best around for makeup - she can make anyone look like a million bucks. I also recently started going to Taylor for color/cuts. I've been nothing but happy with the results. Overall, 1604 is one of the best salons around... everyone that works there is super friendly too, which adds to the great experience! read more

After going to salons on Newbury street for years, I've been looking for a more convenient/local salon since moving to Quincy about 5 years ago. I've been all over Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth and even more south but eventually would end up back on Newbury street dealing with the traffic, lack of parking and ridiculous prices. That is until I found this salon and especially Danielle who is extremely talented, reliable and personable. I'm very particular with what i want and she never just "yeses" me and then does her own thing. At the same time, she also has no problem speaking up and suggesting ideas that make more sense with my skin tone/hair type. In addition to Danielle, the front desk is extremely nice and helpful - especially Michelle. The best part is that Danielle's prices are extremely reasonable which helps my wallet because I love to change my hair color every 6 months. If you can't get an appointment with Danielle, I've seen that all the other stylists are amazing. read more

I've been going to 1604 Salon for a few years now and it has only gotten better the longer I go. Priscilla is amazing. I usually get a partial foil and a trim when I see her and always get compliments on my hair. I trust her completely and she's never steered me in the wrong direction. Hillary and Eddie are both great if you need your makeup done. A party, a wedding, even New Years Eve they will squeeze you in and always do a great job. I've also been to HIllary for spray tanning and both eyebrow and bikini waxing. She's really great at all of them. My tan always looks natural, she's a stickler for detail for eyebrows and as far as bikini waxes go she knows exactly what she's doing and is completely worth the cost. I love 1604, they can always fit me in if I have a change of plans or a schedule conflict, and the entire staff is super friendly. Highly recommend! read more

My bridesmaids and I went to 1604 Salon a few weeks ago for hair and makeup for my wedding. I have nothing but great things to say about our experience there. First off, we were the first bridal party to use their new bridal suite, which was decorated so elegant it was like something out of a magazine! It was so nice to have a private area for our group. Since there were nine of us, we had several hair stylists and two make up artists taking care of us...and everyone looked amazing! Danielle did my up-do; during my trial I showed her a picture of what I was looking for, and she exceeded my expectations. On my wedding day, my hair looked phenomenal!! She remembered exactly what I wanted, and it looked even better than the trail! For make up, Laura made my skin look flawless! She really took her time to make everything look perfect, I am still getting compliments! Not only was my hair and make up amazing, the salon is beautiful and clean...and the staff went above and beyond to make it a special day for us! I've only had my hair done a few times before, but this place was amazing! Julie did my hair and she was SO nice, I had a tiny picture of what I wanted on my iPhone and she did such a wonderful job to match that. My sister was getting married so the bridal party came in together, and she had just booked the salon last minute after changing her mind on where to go. Good thing, because everyone was so nice and welcoming, I would reccommend this to anyone in the area, especially for weddings- they are AWESOME! Hillary did my makeup, I of course had a million questions since I have extremely sensitive skin, and she was great. She offered to sell a lip gloss so I could have it during the wedding, but the color she used was all out so she gave me the tester, assuring me the wand was never used on any lips. I also managed to leave behind my jewelry bag that fell out of my bag with a very expensive and valuable piece of jewelry in it, which of course I was able to come get the next day.
