I had a two year old car (had the two year new car sticker) and brought it in. Busy place but they were moving people fast. The guy I dealt with pulled my car in and in a couple of minutes pulled me out to let me know that even though it was two years old it was a 2024 model and I wouldn't need an inspection yo get a new sticker. One star for the service and treatment I received today is an overstatement. I want a refund and my money back. This place ripped me off on the inspection. They spent at least 30 minutes meticulously looking for anything and everything they could find wrong with the car so it would fail the inspection and then had the audacity to charge me for it. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I decided to take it to a reputable oil change business for a second opinion. I was in and out of the next place in less than 20 minutes and the car passed inspection. Do not go here! You will regret it. read more

I had to do some adulting today and searched for an inspection place close to me and this place came up in the search. It was a cold rainy morning so I thought it would be a good time to go. I got there just in time as there was one car that had just pulled in ahead of me. By the time I left there were several cars waiting as it had stopped raining and people were finally venturing out of their houses. A technician named KJ met me with a friendly smile. He was kind to my dog and even warned me to be careful as cars sometimes drive by pretty fast. My dog and I wandered about as I waited for my car which was done in about 10 minutes. KJ literally ran in between greeting me and checking back in the office. I saw him do this several times while I was there. This dude is efficient. When my car was complete, he even opened up the back door to let my dog hop into the backseat. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at this place and I will be back. Been going to this inspection station for years. They're fast, fair, and efficient. They're friendly and have never tried to sell me a repair that wasn't needed (I go in knowing my vehicle passes). They're very busy now and today was a 90 minute wait, but they're working as fast as they can. I love going to this place every year for my inspection. Something about the nostalgia of the building, the kindness of the people that run the place, and it being independently owned keeps bringing me back. I gave them 4/5 stars because of the wait. It seems no matter when I go, I always end up waiting over an one hour. This year, they only had one technician doing inspections, so that was the cause for the backup this time around. I came to 1626 Auto Inspections for an inspection last week. My inspector told me my windshield wiper needed to be replaced, otherwise my inspection would not pass. As my hands seemed to be tied here, I told him to move forward. At checkout, I learned he had replaced both of them, one of which I had just replaced not more than a month ago. I ended up paying for two windshield wipers at retail price. I drove out to test out my new wipers and learned that they didn't even tell me about nor replenished my empty windshield wiper fluid. I definitely felt taken advantage of so just a warning to all of you that they will take advantage of the fact that you're already there and they have the power to pass your vehicle's inspection. If you do decide to come here, which I do not recommend, ensure you know what you actually need replaced, if anything. read more

I've been bringing all my cars here for over 20 years. Service has always been fairly good. A couple days ago, I stopped in for annual inspection and was told it would be a two hour wait. Fair enough, there are staff shortages everywhere. I was also told that they are so busy they'd moved to a 8:00 AM opening time. Today, I arrived at 8:30. They were closed. Several other customers were also there waiting. At 9:00, I called the number on the sign and asked if they'd be opening soon. The answer ways that they'd decided to open at 11:00 today "due to weather." It's cold out, but not a cloud in the sky. Again, fair enough. But, I asked, why didn't they at least put a sign on their door. The answer was, "It's on our Web site." There was no apology nor any note of concern that several customers were waiting. I went to the other cars and told the other customers. First, if you've been told what time a shop opens, I don't expect there's a need to double-check the Web site. Second, after a thorough search, it's clear there is no Web site. The Web site that Yelp points to goes to an "Under Construction" page. These guys can open or close whenever they like, but there was no interest or concern that several customers were sitting in the parking lot waiting. Telling me to check the Website when there is no Website was pretty unprofessional. At this point, I don't feel that I'll be returning here. Since I only bring two cars in each year, I'm sure the owners won't care if I'm a customer or not. read more

No clear signage. Bad customer service. The person checking people in moved two cars after I got here who parked after me but still put them ahead in line of me. When I asked them if I could get my rightful place in line they said they had no idea if I was here before the other cars and I would be after them. They have cameras they can tell who got here first also if they had to move the other two cars next to me because of parking issues and not my car then it's pretty clear who got here first. Why would I lie and they refusing to believe me is ridiculous. I've been coming here for years to support the small business but I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I spent about 1 hour here today, waiting to have 2 vehicles inspected and had a good experience. This is a great local business - nothing fancy, mind you - but solid service indeed. They are pleasant to work with and they will get you in and out in about 15 minutes. So while they do have a very small waiting room with A/C and lots of magazines to read, it is really not bad to sit outside under the massive oak tree - even for a summer morning in Texas. I always get my car inspected here. It's close and convenient, and I've always had good service. I'm dismayed by the bad reviews, as I've never had a bad experience. They do state vehicle inspections, not manicures, for crying out loud. Usually it's done quickly, and I'm back on the road in 15-20 minutes. It's not Austin, it's small town Menchaca.
