DO NOT GET YOUR CAR INSPECTION HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME!!!! Establishment super unprofessional and unorganized. It's almost like they want to waste your time. Long story short. I needed to get my auto inspection. Called early in the morning to ask about walk-ins and appointments. They said I could walk in but they had a long wait and they would stop taking vehicles at 3:30 pm. I came in between 1:30 and 2pm. Lady at the counter said I would be the last car to be serviced. She wrote my name down and told me to come back in about one hour. I came back between 2:30 and 3 pm. She took down my car insurance info and even took my keys. We waited for about 45 minutes for her to tell us that they could no longer see me. I was polite and said okay but I truly think that is one of the most unprofessional things someone can do. To have us waste our time!!! She said if I come in TUESDAY at 8am she would not have me wait. Um... I don't have the luxury to come in when you want me to. Some people have jobs and errands to run. That's why we called in ahead of time and arrived early. I also don't insinuate that someone is being racist/discriminatory against minorities lightly but... let's just say my brother and I were the only non-white people there and speaking Spanish. Many other white people there as well waiting along with me and we were the only ones not seen... so you can make that judgment yourself. So unprofessional. NEVER COME HERE. read more

Came here for inspection and was told it was 1.5 hours wait but can put my name down on the list and come back. Came back at the time they asked and was in and out with my inspection within 10-15 minutes. Keith (person doing the inspections) is a nice guy and really out there running from car to car making sure that everyone gets in and out as fast as they can. Got there at 11:30 and was told there were a couple in front of me but since I was staying it wouldn't be to long. After being there an hour and seeing 6 vehicles go in front of me I asked the receptionist what the story was. She showed me her clipboard indicating 5 more people in front of me. What BS! People come in sign up and leave than call her before they come back. This is how they get around the fact that they can't legally take reservations. I left and will never be back. I could go on a government rant about how they don't need to intervene with our personal cars but I won't bother The shop has two bays and the staff is courteous and friendly. I've brought cars here for inspection for the last 11 years and have never had a bad experience. My grandfather turned our family on to them years before he passed away and I will use them as long as I can. Even if there's a wait, I've always encountered kind people while killing time together. Great little place! Needed a quick inspection in the area and was told Firestone had a two hour wait. Some quick Yelping and 1626 Auto Inspections turned up. It's very small, and they have a tiny waiting room that is very Texas. A small portable air conditioner and a TV with a short Apple TV video on repeat. I didn't mind at all, it was nice to have AC to relax in! They had my car in and out in about 15 minutes. He even found something my dealership missed, so I'll be following up on that. Paperwork was neatly organized and sitting on my dash when I returned to my car. I would defintely go here over a major chain any day! read more

I used to get all my auto inspections done at auto repair shops. It was always a pain to do this because the shops are always busy with longer projects, and you always get the feeling the shops don't want to do inspections because they don't make money or it's a distraction for them. Some years ago when I first needed to get my motorcycle inspected, I searched for a place that could do a motorcycle inspection and found 1626 Auto Inspections. Yes, they do both motorcycles and cars. I'm glad I found them, because Danny Gomez has always done a great job. Since that time I've taken all my vehicles to him for inspections. Since all Danny does is inspections, he works hard to ensure you're in an out in as little time as possible, but without shortchanging the inspection process. Since all he does are inspections, that's how he has to make his money. Thus he can't dawdle. Plus, you CAN do inspections if the streets are wet (tho not icy). Many other auto shops refuse to inspect if there's a drop of water on the pavement, but not Danny since again inspections are how he makes his living. What prompted me to finally write this review? Something I saw yesterday when I was at his shop getting my car inspected. He finished up my car and was moving on to the next customer. He noticed the next customer's inspection tag was listed in Hayes County (not Travis) and told the customer that he should get his inspection done in Hayes because it's cheaper in Hayes. He turned away a customer, he turned away a chance to make money, because it was the right thing to do for the customer. That sort of honesty and integrity is awesome. read more

I'll never ever go back again!!! Failed me cause my window tinting was too dark, the same windows I've had on my car for 6 years of inspection, there 3 times, went to Tint place to have them fix my windows. Took photos of them redoing my windows, showed them that plus my receipt, told them I couldn't lower my windows for 3 to 4 days, he said he would pass me in 3 to 4 days so he can lower down the windows to see for himself, I'm handicapped, my wife needs her car inspected, I asked them if they really thought that the tint guys would put on the incorrect tint shade after I told them it failed? Plus both the mechanic and owner were rude rude rude. Poor service all around, and it looks like no one cleans up around there. read more

I've used this place for the last couple of years and no issues at all. I'm not sure if they are certified mechanics but they failed my truck inspection due to leak in the muffler. I took my truck to get "repaired" at a muffler shop, they quickly notified me that the leak was the standard weep holes found on all vehicles and they could not detect any carbon monoxide. I immediately went to purchase them but was not able to make it back to their location by 5pm. Stephen and his wife STAYED THERE UNTIL 5:30 so I did not have to drive back to Austin the next day. Showed up at 4pm (shop closes at 5pm) and there is only one other person in front of me. They said they couldn't inspect my vehicle because they were done for the day. Terrible customer service. I felt very I unwelcome. I even drove out of my way because I thought this place was top-notch, but I was sorely disappointed. I have been using this business for years but I will not return. Went in on Thursday and the receptionist said she had a few cars in front of me. She advised me to wait as she thought she could fit me in. After an hour passed, she told me she could not fit me in and advised me to go home and call her in an hour. I did just this and then returned to the business an hour after this as the receptionist advised. It was now 2:30 in the afternoon. At 3:00, I told her that my inspection had to be completed by 3:30 (as I had another appointment) and by her response I knew this was not going to be possible as there were 3 cars in front of me. Main point I'm trying to make is that I wasted hours at this business with no inspection. The receptionist misled me twice about the wait time. I suggest everyone go down the road to "Garcia's Precision Auto Service" as they got me in and out the next day in 15 minutes. read more

The sign in sheet showed five people in front of me, but I was told it would be about 45 minutes before they were finished. After waiting an hour to get inspected and another 30 minutes for the inspection itself I was told he wouldn't pass my Audi S5 for inspection because the tires "looked" like the tread was low. I asked him to show me the measurement on a tread gauge because all you have to have is 3/32 inch to pass inspection. He said his gauge didn't matter because the tread looked low on the edge and there was a little piece of rubber by the wheel that had gotten mildly chipped when I parked too close to a curb. He was forceful in his insistence that he wouldn't pass me. Then, he tried to make me pay for the inspection even though he wasn't passing me and giving me a sticker. He told me I had 30 days to bring the car back to pass inspection and the charge would be honored. This is the one time in my life I felt lucky I had forgotten my wallet at home. He was rude and clearly agitated that I didn't have my wallet and asked me to call someone to bring it to me. He finally let me take my car so in could leave to go get it. I went and got my wallet despite my instinct to not go back. On a whim, I dropped by a Jiffy Lube on the way back and asked the man who came out to greet me about my tires and if they would pass inspection. He went and got his tread gauge and showed me that my tires were all 4/32 or 5/32. So, I let him inspect my car. He was very nice! About 15 minutes later, a lady came over to me and said I was ready to go. I was very surprised because there was even a car in front of me. She was sweet as pie and was telling me some story about chips in credit cards. I called over to 1626 Auto Inspections and let him know I would not be returning. The person who answered the phone just hung up without a word. Clearly, this isn't their first rodeo, considering the scam they have working. read more

I do not know the name of the kid who was there when I arrived, but he was rude as can be. I arrived about 10 min before they close along with one other customer. I happened to walk in the door behind the other gentleman when he told me looked at me and said "he is the last appointment"...and they were not even close yet. I have gone there the last 4 years, but after my experience today, I will never go back there again. Update: I went back to 1626 Auto Inspections and the young man (a different tech) who serviced my vehicle was very kind, courteous, and did an excellent job getting me in and out in a timely manner. They're affordable, personable, honest (which some might not like about inspection places, but I sure do) and since they only do inspections, they don't try to sell you on extra crap you don't need. If I could give no stars I would. Never go here for an inspection mine failed me cause I had an 1/8 inch tear on my passenger wiper... really! Also, they will check it front and back with a fine-tooth comb and a flashlight. They will fail you for just about any reason. I have never been to a station that did all that. The guys at 1626 sprayed the exhaust pipes with windex - a no, no according to my mechanic - it could crack the exhaust - he said to make a complaint to the DPS! read more
