Come here weekly for grocery shopping. My wife buys all the vegetables, meat and fish to prepare our weekly lunches. Produce prices are seasonal sometimes really low and very high. Goes up and from week to week. Great selection of instant noodles and ethnic snacks. Prices are lower than Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons. Be prepared to bag your own groceries, the cashiers are lazy as fuck and there's no dedicated bag person for each cashier. We have been to this store more times than I remember. I am updating this review, and docking one star because the restroom is always so dirty. I was in there yesterday at about 12:30 PM and the whole restroom smelled of urine. If this is offensive to me as a customer who comes to shop for an hour a week , doesn't it offend the people who work here? The rest of the store is OK, but when we roll in from Bakersfield we have driven 124 miles so we need to use the restrooms. Vegetables are good, the price and variety is better than what we have at home. The seafood, fresh, frozen or live - also better than available in our town. This store has all the food we need to run our household. I am not sure how the prices compare. But the isles are wide, most of the store is clean, and when they are busy they will open up more registers. Management, if you read this, please have the restrooms taken care of. LARGE Asian supermarket, fresh produce galore. ------------------------------------------------------------------- We were planning a hot pot celebration for NYE. So what better place to check out than a Chinese supermarket in a strip mall with an Old Western facade? Small taro from China? Check. Enormous taro from Mexico? Check. Fresh rock shrimp? Check. Upside down catfish? Pass (but check, they have that too) We got pretty much every ingredient we needed for our hot pot feast, except ironically they ran out of rock shrimp - we went to Hawaii supermarket instead (see my upcoming review). The cans of butane were more expensive than normal - they were being sold individually, $1.60 per can (normally it's a pack of 4, about $1 per can). On the plus side, their thinly sliced beef for hot pot was EXCELLENT. So was their gailan, which was surprisingly tender. I think in total, we spent close to a hundred bucks on ingredients. I was about to shoot a panorama shot of the various Mama Sita's sauces, but some worker came by and kept saying "Hallo, Hallo. No photo." Boo. read more

I was charged for 6.35 lbs of tomatoes yet I only have 2.95 lbs. I was char for 4.35lbs of carrots yet I only have 1.95 lbs. You might think no big deal but the tomatoes are $4.35 a lbs and carrots are 89 cents a lbs. I can't do math that well but I'm looking at 12 to 14 dollars on just those 2 items. Don't see any social distancing in this store. People are bumping into each other in every isles. The check out line is always long and when I tell the cashier to stop the lady behind me to put her stuff on the check out counter because she is not done scanning my stuff yet, the cashier lady says it's ok she is not close to you she is just putting her stuff on. Well, if she is putting her stuff next to mine then she is close enough. So, please enforce social distancing. read more

Well known supermarket in the 626. This location moved their produce and all around but it became worse than before. You walk in, look around, and think you'll find good deals. Wait until you head to the cashier, 3 or 4 of the items I bought were more expensive than the price I saw! They seem to be ripping people off lowkey. Check when you buy. read more

It was late in the evening and I wanted to pick up a specific pack of Asian cough drops. Initially, I was going to go to Ranch 99, but my friend recommended this market instead and I'm so glad we chose it. 168 Market had plenty of parking space and it wasn't busy at all! The store is huge, they had everything I needed in stock and the customer service was great. I was in and out of there under 7 minutes! Definitely a better choice than going into Ranch 99, which would have been busier and probably taken 3x longer to complete the journey. The first 168 Market I was ever introduced to. It's got a decent variety of produce and is generally well maintained. So far, nothing is spoiled or rotten as I've experienced at another market, so it's not bad. The prices here are not bad either, and the parking situation sure beats the circus at 99 ranch. Unfortunately, 168 is not ranked as my favorite Chinese supermarket (99 Ranch still takes the cake for that with it's variety of produce and its size). If you're one who likes to avoid the craziness of Valley Blvd, I'd suggest you hop on to Las Tunas near San Gabriel Blvd for the same market but with a cleaner feel. As almost all Chinese markets go, don't expect the happiest of service, but do expect competitive prices! read more

168 Market in Alhambra/San Gabriel is a regular shopping excursion for us because it might be the cheapest among the Chinese markets. The quality is also a reflection of the price, so, this may not be the store for everything. We do get some great deals on fish, crab, and vegetables and it's hard to pass those up. It helps if you speak Mandarin if you have questions. Why is it called 168 Market? 168 is pronounced Yi Liu Ba. Eight is a lucky number in China and you can never go wrong with it in your company name. Also, Ba sounds like a word for rich and is akin to Liu Fa (similar in meaning to getting luck). So, the truth is, it doesn't mean anything, but just sounds cool. Kind of like the old "Lucky" stores in So-Cal. Anyways, if you are cost-conscious, you can't go wrong at 168 Market. read more

I think the owner of this place is in cohorts with 99 Ranch markets... or maybe they have the same owner who knows?! But doing a side-by-side comparison of both store's flyers on items that are on sale... it's quite suspicious, the very same items are on sale and also for the very same price! Anyways this place is kinda of your typical Asian supermarket, so a guarantee to find your asiany vegetables like bok choy, napa cabbage and daikon radishes. Things aren't always on sale so it helps if you shop around at other stores. The produce seems fresher than most markets and neatly bundled. Since this location used to be a Vons, the aisles are set up wider and they have a good refrigerated sections. The people at the store are friendly. Holla to the flaming checkout boy who called me beautiful he's such a sweetie! =D People have complained about the Asian drivers here before but I haven't had any troubles at this location.Yes, I know I am Asian driver too, but I swear I am not causing any of the problems all the accidents I've been in was because people ran into ME ok! read more

I'm going to write this review in parallel with my review of 99 Ranch Market on Valley and Del Mar. These two are the best Chinese supermarkets in the area. First of all some background, I'm a 2nd gen American born Chinese, my parents are from Hong Kong and I was born and raised in LA. I consider myself as Chinese as i can be without being a FOB. What i'm getting at is I like shopping at both Whole Foods and Chinese supermarkets. I could care less if a bunch of green onions is .50 cents or 25 cents but I'm not paying 6 bucks a lb for organic air chilled chicken breasts when it's 1.99/lb for the "regular" version at the Chinese market. Anyways, this is my default go to Chinese market. The parking lot is big and easily accessible and if you don't go during prime times it's not too crowded. This place is one of the larger Chinese markets in the area which means it has a better than average selection. It has a really good seafood section and their meat section is decent too (although not as good as the meat section at 99 Ranch). Much like the 99 Ranch on Valley and Del Mar this is one of the bigger, cleaner, brighter Chinese markets in the area. Which in turn makes it more "American friendly. TIPS: In general the vegetables and fruits at a Chinese markets arent going to be great. You WILL have to dig through the bins in order to find decent looking ones. The prices are usually cheaper than American markets so it's up to you to decide your quality vs. price ratio. In terms of meat, the quality is usually pretty good with a much better selection then say a Ralphs or Vons and much cheaper too. In terms of seafood...Chinese markets make American markets look like a JOKE. You have like 1 display of frozen seafood and like 1 tank of live lobsters at Ralphs....it's like a friggin aquarium at the Chinese market. You will see fish for sale you never even knew existed. A lot of which is fresh and swimming.... and it's WAY cheaper. When I see people at American markets buying frozen seafood for twice as much as the live seafood at Chinese markets I want to slap them.... read more

This is my favorite Chinese supermarket in the San Gabriel Valley. The name, 168, is a near-homonym of yi lu fa in Chinese, which means "prosperity all the way." When it first opened, my family and I were attracted to it due to its sizable selection of items imported from mainland China compared to other supermarkets in the area. Since then, we have been going there more and more. The store is laid out with produce on the left, meat and seafood at the back, assorted aisles in the middle, and freezers at the right. They used to have filet mignon at a ridiculous $2.99/lb, but sadly it's gone up (though at ~$6/lb still much lower than American groceries). Their produce section is comparable to other Chinese supermarkets but IMO more fresh. Also, they have a wider variety of premium boxed fruits like Korean pears, Xinjiang pears, etc. The last few times I visited, there was always a free sample kiosk for Korean pears and honey apples. A unique thing they have at the back is sushi ingredients like roe, raw salmon, raw tuna, etc. It's very expensive (~$20/lb) but quite fresh. At the right, there are open freezers with things like frozen vegetables, and towards the front right there are freezers with dumplings, buns, microwaveable meals, ice cream, etc. Next to it are some bakery goods and a fridge full of Japanese red bean cakes (dorayaki). Around the open freezer area there is a huge concentration of free samples, ranging from instant noodles to hot pot and Korean snacks. Overall, this place tends to be cleaner than 99 Ranch (marginally) and Shun Fat (by a lot). read more

When I'm in this area, this is my go to Asian supermarket. The other one would be Ranch 99 in San Gabriel but it's harder to find parking there and the check-out lanes are typically longer. Since I was only shopping for produce, I came here. They have a great produce section and I found everything that I was looking for. I picked up a bag of baby bok choy, Shanghai bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, black wood ear, Persian cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes on the vine, rambutan, organic strawberries, fragrant pears, Sunkist oranges, tangerines and seedless mini watermelon. All this food was under $25! AMAZING!! Highly recommend if you are nearby or in the area. Large shared parking lot and not too difficult to find parking usually. read more

Ridiculously cheap groceries. I went here once with my parents. It's a cheap alternative to 99 Ranch Market, but certainly no replacement. There's not take-out meals, no bakery, no turnip cakes, no Taiwanese mochi, no fresh drinks... it's just dang cheap groceries. Everything is consistently cheaper than any other supermarket, even skippy honey roasted peanut butter. I love that their vitasoy 6 packs are only $1.99. They have hi-chews 10 packs for about $3. Deloba cookies are about $1.39. That's about all I buy at the supermarket anyway. Good stuff. read more

Be very careful at this place. You know the signs in the restroom that says employees must wash their hands before returning to work? Well, they wash their hands but before they do their business in the restroom. Technically, they still washed their hands but seriously, why would you not understand the meaning of this. Large supermarket. Just about everything you need! My family alternates between a lot of markets because of prices and this one is one of our favorites. They have a large selection of everything! My parents mostly take care of the grocery shopping since I do not usually cook, so I am speaking as an Asian grocery store novice. I came here on my own to prepare a fresh dumpling feast for my parents, and got all the ingredients I needed for a great price! There are always workers offering free samples, and two Cantonese uncle-workers were really helpful to me in locating the wrappers (far back right corner) and giving me tips about which to select. I forgot to get some shrimp priced (so embarrassing), and the aunty at register shook her head and sighed at me before running off to get it priced for me herself! I'm so thankful for the workers. Other pluses: - I searched many grocery stores for pandan extract, and I found it here! - My mom says they have the best deals for Vitasoy drinks and frozen dumplings. - They carry a variety of ice cream from Korea (my brothers' favorite), and usually have free samples. - Good selection of fresh fish and seafood. - Plenty of parking spaces. Somehow I've missed visiting this particular supermarket all these years. But I'm certainly glad I did. Here's my rundown and why I'm very impressed. - Huge selection of produce. I'm talking like they have a "Taiwanese version" of almost every veg, along with the "regular Chinese" version. Solid prices, especially with the stuff that's on sale. 15 cents per bundle of scallions?? - Very solid and clean seafood department! Stone Crabs for $3.99; and one of the few places I can find live ridgeback shrimp! Shun Fat market has them, but those guys look half dead.. - Also some killer deals on the meat section. $3.99 oxtail is almost unheard of nowadays; and some harder to find cuts of poultry and pork here too. Pork cheeks anyone? That aside, I do also like that their aisles are wild, and stacked a little dense than other markets. Things seem to generally move fast as you don't see a much dust over their products. I'll revisit again in the future to potentially upgrade to 5*... read more

This is one of my choices for a Chinese Supermarket in the SGV. I like that there's plenty of free parking. Although it does share the location with Rite Aid and other establishments. The market is big and the aisles are roomy. They have a lot of different and exotic fruits when in season. They have a lot of live seafood to choose from and are usually cheaper than 99 Ranch. Like most Chinese Supermarket, they usually have sample stations setup so you can try their products of the week. I have noticed that they've decluttered their space since the last time I visited. My favorite is still the El Monte Superstore in Rosemead, but if I don't want to make the extra 10 minute drive there, then I will go the 168 instead. read more

After the renovation, my mother likes coming to 168 market and it is enjoyable to walk around the aisles. The fruit and veggies look bigger in space and variety of different items. The meat and seafood area is cleaner and they use USA meats. There are plenty of samples during the weekends. The market looks much cleaner than before. Also, there are more registers open too so the lines are not that long. Plenty of parking too. read more

This place used to be a Vons from wayback in the day, thats why its so huge for a Chinese Market, it also explains why it has such a massive freezer and cooler selection in the back of the store. This place has fairly well stocked selection of live/fresh seafood. At anytime you can get yourself some live tilapia( why you'd choose this fish, i don't know but you could). perhaps some ling cod or other more seasonal catches. They also have an assortment of different crustaceans and mollusks available, if you want to get your crab on. It's winter so my mind is on hotpot mode, and this is where this market shines for me. I'd say this place has one of the largest selection of hot pot balls you can get ala carte, I'm guesstimating close to 20 different kinds. This isn't even including the pre-packaged ones you can get in the refridgerated/freezer selection. They also have a good selection of thinly sliced meats for the hotpot. beef, lamb, pork and chicken. They don't seem to have the super premium meats (wagyu etc), so if you want that for your hotpot you'll probably want to go to 99 ranch. read more

This review is for the actual operations side of their business. The old Chinese lady working the stock and receiving in the back needs to be taught proper customer service. It's not okay to do business and talk to people like that. Middle aged old Chinese lady does not know how to be professional. She acts like she owns the market but she's only a freakin warehouse receiving person. Learn how to do business with other people instead of talking to everyone like their a loser. read more

Cheap and Fresh produce, seafood and meats! Love coming here when they have a sale on lobsters, lol! Also, another go to place when Hawaii and 99 Ranch aren't on sale.... With the renovation, the store is easier to navigate. Although they display more varieties of produce, but they are not necessary the top quality or cheap! We bought 4 lbs of salmon at $2.99 per pound. Two hours later, we cooked the salmon. To our great disappointment, the salmon were stale and the meat was mushy. Concerning about the food safety, we had to throw out 4 lbs of salmon! So, be sure to check the freshness of the fish at this store before you make purchase. read more

I always shop here for my seafood. I spend tons here! I usually see a tall man who always help me. Yesterday they switch him out with these older short men. Who was insanely rude. I wasn't able to pick the crabs I wanted so he grabbed me one with no legs. Literally one claw crab when there were tons who had all their legs in tacked. I paid 30$ for 2 handicap crabs. I wanted to tell him to switch it out so bad but he was already grumpy and didn't seem to want to be there anymore. Then my cousin wanted to pick out her shrimps which was right next to the register. He didn't let her touch the item..He wanted to give her all the smaller, Legless shrimp for her. She was frustrated and just pointed to him what she wanted. He was horrible. This market is a good size for your Asian food item needs. Generally the market is clean and does not reek of some kind of funny odor. There is plenty of parking in the lot that shares it with a few eateries (like Lady But Tea House) & CVS. This place can get pretty packed, but you can still find parking (but it won't be as close to the market, but what's wrong with a little cardio? Opportunities to work your heart). Service is pretty standard (of what you can expect from other Asian markets). People do speak some English here so if you need to find something, you should be okay. Typical Asian(Chinese) Market. Cheap prices, relatively noisy people, huge selection of produce, meats/seafood (live/fresh/frozen), somewhat clean, and somewhat organized well enough to navigate through with ease. That being said, since it opened, the cleanliness of the place seems to have fallen. It's hot and things spoil faster so some produce do spoil and you may even see a bunch of flies swarming around it. Aside from those 2 blech observations/experiences I've had, this place is convenient for grabbing groceries and other supplies. If you've never been to a place like this before, try to be open minded and go in with some patience. It's very typical in this area where customer service isn't huge and people can seem rude. Out of the 168 markets that I've been to, this one definitely is the largest. It has the biggest store and the widest selection of items. Their vegetable/fruit area is always fully stocked and fresh. They have a large frozen area and fresh seafood as well. Would definitely recommend coming here. read more

I use to come here when it use to be Vons, I was at shock that Vons closed and became a Asian supermarket. Anyways, I come here pretty much once a month, either with my mom or for a quick cigg run for my dad. This place is less then a mile from where a live. As a matter of fact, a bunch of asian markets are within the 5 mile radius of me. They are pretty much your typical asian supermarket, Chinese music playing in the background. Fruits inside a big cardboard box with a price tag sticking out. Prices at asian markets are crazy cheap but for this location, its slightly a bit expensive compared to others. The floor is typically dirty, doesn't seem like they clean it much, but sadly they do, it just doesn't look like they do at all. The layout of the place is the same as Vons. It just more packed with a lot of random stuff. Asian markets doesn't seem to follow much of the safely rules. They have a tendency of pushing the limits or cutting it close. Why do I say that you say? Well I seen numerous times, items being stacked too high. I am a short person, so climbing on to the shelves for me wouldn't be good. The last thing I need is to be banded by an asian market. I normally come here for their snacks, prices are okay, I am sure if I try hard or a bit willing to drive out of the way for a bit. I can find the same item for a much cheaper price. I just know if I want to come to this market, I should do it in the morning when no one is up and ready to go geocery shopping. Parking is always back, they share the plaza with small restaurant and stores also CVS. Parts of the parking lot is currently blocked off because of the gas station. I'm not Asian but I LOVE Asian supermarkets. I get all my supplies I need for my belly and soul! I agree, Yelpers, the prices are reasonably inexpensive but the produce is kind of funky at times. I have found that to be true in a lot of Asian markets that I have visited through the SFV, SGV and OC. Meh. Another perk is that this place is HUGE inside with plenty of selection to choose from. However, it's hard to get assistance, since a lot of the employees don't speak English, in finding an item. Meh.
