Another year later and other amazing dinner here! This place is consistently delicious and awesome. The service is impeccable and the variety on the menu we love. Brilliant choice of wines and cocktails. We had a great champagne tha was new to me but came recommended by our server. The fried green tomatoes were light and slightly salt and vinegar tasting which I loved. The bread service was great and I especially loved the cheesy one! Plus free ! So many places charge you for bread now. My entree was yummy, scallops, black beans, saffron rice and roasted vegetables. Such a great plate of food. Everything was cooked perfectly. My friend had the tuna and again cooked perfectly rare. With sides that were delicious she said. The chocolate mousse was to die for. Super creamy and smooth. With cream and berries on top. Perfect end to a perfect meal. In a nice intimate setting this place I feel is a little under the radar in Winston for fine dining. I'm glad to see it being busy though every time I come here. We've never had a problem here, in fact, we've always been happy in spite of the prices. A little disappointed tonight. Six of us at the table, we all ordered appetizers, most ordered wine, the full Monty. I ordered salmon, medium rare. It came out, medium well. The server agreed. She offered to redo it. I said nahh, everybody's halfway through their meal. Hey, mistakes happen. But maybe...don't charge me for that? Or discount it? Or...free dessert? Sounds like a quibble, I know, but they're charging $45 for salmon, it should be done right. Right? read more

Warm greeting by the hostess and friendly, prompt service by Margo. Wonderful patio ambiance & service. it was difficult to choose from the many phenomenal items on the menu. We paired the vegetarian risotto, which featured the "chefs choice" varieties of mushrooms, with the crispy trout smeared with dill pickle aïoli (delicious!) which was served with cheesy grits and a few roasted vegetables. Both dishes were delectable! We finished our meal with the crème brûlée and a large dish of chocolate mousse. Both were absolutely delicious and it was well worth coming here this evening. For our quarterly bonus-celebrating bougie meal, my Elite besties and I decided to switch it up and visit a restaurant in Winston-Salem for a change. After some light research, we settled on 1703. We easily made a reservation at 7:15pm on Black Friday. Upon arrival it was clear that making a reservation may have been unnecessary as the restaurant was relatively empty. We also noticed that it was very dark and a little chilly temperature-wise.  We found it interesting that there wasn't a cocktail menu, but the waitress assured us they could make anything you could think up since they had a full bar. To begin we decided to share a bottle of wine. With the menu favoring seafood, we opted for the Jean-Marie Sancerre. It was light and crisp and the perfect accompaniment for our meal.  A basket of bread was provided as a snack shortly after we received our wine. The bread was a little on the crunchy side and the butter that came with it was salty. We also shared a couple appetizers. We ordered fried green tomatoes and shishitos peppers. I was a little disappointed at the execution on the fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes were sliced very thin, so there wasn't much flavor from the tomato itself. All you could taste was the breading which was very salty! Then the dipping sauce that came with it was salty too. The shishitos peppers saved the appetizer round as they were quite tasty and not nearly as salty so it helped balance out our palates. For my entree I ordered the scallops. Our server gave us the option of ordering half portion salads to go with our meals, which is very smart. We all decided to make the addition, and I chose the mixed green salad. There wasn't anything special about the salad, but it was nice to get some extra veggies in. The scallops were perfectly cooked and tender. The eggplant caponata and mixed olive tapenade were nice accoutrements.  To end we shared two desserts. We ordered the creme brulee and the apple cinnamon crisp. I wasn't particularly impressed with either of the desserts. The apple cinnamon crisp gave me oatmeal vibes. The fruit and ice cream on top were the best part. We were impressed with how quick the service was but that could be due to the restaurant being so dead on Black Friday. read more

This upscale neighborhood restaurant, just off Reynolda Road, has been around since 2000 and offers some of the most seasonally creative dishes in the entire area. It started as a catering operation, and has added the current venue for lunch, dinner, and brunch meals, available weekly. This is place has a comfortable feel to it, at least at lunch when the traffic is less. The interior is nice and relaxed, and the outside seating is very popular, and seems prepared for almost any weather condition. I've had the opportunity to eat here 3 times for lunch (may make a dinner meal at some point - it's a goal), trying Sea Bass, Quail, and my very favorite, Duck Confit. Duck Confit has been a favorite from the very first time I had it at a French bistro in Paris in the late 1970's. I have even made the dish myself and was mostly pleased with the result - but this dish was at a whole different level, all you could hope for. Perfectly prepared, topped with a tasty cranberry compote, and resting on mashed potatoes as that should be! We finished up with a delicious scratch made pudding with fresh berries and cream - great end to a memorable meal. The service was impeccable - we arrived at 11AM only to find they began lunch service at 11:30. I was able to Google a few restaurants that offered 5 star quality service and food, near the top of the list was 1703. They did not disappoint. White table cloth with an extensive menu, full bar, and also offers specials for some drinks. Food was delicious with many options. I tried the meatballs, and I definitely made the right choice. I've been dying to go to 1703 since I moved back to the triad and we finally got the chance this past weekend! Of course we got to sit on their beautiful patio which was covered and fully stocked with comfortable pillows and blankets in case it got chilly as the sun went down. Our servers were all so knowledgeable and many of them had worked for 1703 for 10-20 years so they knew lots about the chefs and dishes. We got quite a few entrees from the trout, crab cakes, veggie platter, and salmon and everything was served with local veggies, a sauce and micro greens. Everything was seasoned well and the star of the table was the crab cake which was loaded with lump crab and the veggie plate which had an array of wild mushrooms and Persian carrots. For dessert I'd recommend their lemon, goat cheese blueberry tart which was tangy and sweet in the best way. All around this is one of the best meals I've had in Winston and I can't wait to go back! read more

1703 is an Exquisite restaurant that I feel it's quality is close to most restaurants in Paris. 1703 has lovely table fair with white table cloths to compliment their sumptuous meals. It has the motif for a wedding anniversary, or any holiday to be celebrated with family and dear friends. The folks providing service compliment the cuisine they serve. I have a fine dry French Bordeaux that I have been saving for over 15 years, that I was glad I left at home on its side corked splendor, when I paid $180 for the bottle to find out they had a $25 corkage fee annoyed me. I had valentines day dinner here tonight and it was beyond amazing. It was my first time coming here and it really lived up to the hype. We started with fried green tomatoes and lumpia. They were both the best version of either I've ever had. We then had sea bass, lamb chops and filet mignon because we couldn't decide on just two entrees. All three were fabulous, including the sauces and side items, everything flawlessly cooked and plated beautifully. Finally for dessert we had crème brûlée and a blueberry lemon goat cheese tart. I'd say of all the food we had, the goat cheese tart was the least impressive but still good, but it's crust was a little overly thick and dense. When researching fancier spots for our anniversary date night, we stumbled upon several good reviews of 1703. We drive by this restaurant often, and while it is unassuming and a bit hidden, there is usually a full parking lot which is a good sign! When calling to make a reservation, Jason was very kind and helpful! We choose to sit outside, and we enjoyed their outdoor seating area (even in the summer heat). Our server was very attentive and patient! We enjoyed the menu, which is seasonal and rotates each day. This may make it a touch tricky when planning for larger groups or groups with pickier eaters, but we found plenty of options for ourselves! The vegetable meatloaf was a unique dish that was surprisingly crispy and delicious with the cream sauce and mashed potatoes. The sea bass had a great texture and flavor, with a slight crisp that still melted in your mouth! The apple blueberry cinnamon dessert was my personal favorite, perfectly warm and flavored. Made a 8 PM reservation on a Saturday night. We were seated 45 minutes past the hour. The manager offered us a complementary beverage for our inconvenience, but the drinks showed up on our bill. In town for a trip and this was part of my Winston-Salem dining experience. Food and drink For my main meal I had the steak which came with garlic mashed potatoes and flat squash. The steak was very burned and had a bitter taste to it. I didn't think it was very seasoned either. Mashed potatoes were good. There was only two small pieces of squash. I would have liked to have had more. For dessert I had the apple blueberry crumble. This was excellent I did not try any beverages aside from water. Ambiance was very nice. I sat inside but the outdoor garden seating was really cool and would be great in nice weather as it was tonight. Parking lot is a free lot. And there's plenty of it Price was a bit high considering the portion size. Service was good. My husband planned a dinner party, for my recent milestone birthday, at 1703 Restaurant. What a wonderful evening of great food and great service by Trish. We had such fun with our son, my sister and her husband, fondly known as our Bubba Bean. This is a small, renovated home so be sure and make a reservation. Their parking lot is very small but the business next door closes at 5:00 so their small lot can be used. The menu changes everyday and it is inspired by the Chef's imagination and what he has locally sourced for that day. One item on the menu literally said, "with Chef foraged chanterelles". They have an herb and vegetable garden right beside the restaurant. It doesn't get more local than that. We started with the fried green tomatoes, charred shishito peppers and a scotch egg. The tomatoes were brined then very thinly sliced and lightly battered and fried. The peppers were mild and had a great Smokey flavor, the egg was also good. Everything had a wonderful sauce. Our dinner choices were rack of lamb, salmon, crab cakes, sea bass and scallops. Desserts to share? Of course: dark chocolate mousse, blueberry tart, crème brûlée, chocolate crisp and key lime pie. It's been some time since my husband and I frequented this restaurant. Everything was on pointe, except the wait staff ( female) was very austere , never once smiled, not at all friendly which was very off putting. The restaurant is pretty, the food ok. read more

First time dining on a Sunday evening. We had a reservation and were promptly greeted and shown to our table. Service was top-notch. Food was delicious which included a filet mignon and scallops. The steak was so tender it could be cut with a fork. The scallops were amazing. The only complaint and reason we are not giving it five stars is the decor, music, and layout of tables. They were playing 70s and 80s music which we listen to, but in an intimate dinner setting, would prefer instrumentals. The decor which includes green walls does not pair well with the fine dining and the delicious meal received. The tables are close together so you hear everyone's conversations around you. Oh my goodness this place was absolutely amazing! Expensive, but the food was so delicious it was well worth the price! We went for Valentine's Day and they gave my wife a red rose to take home, which was a nice touch. Our server was so friendly and considerate, and the wait time was not bad at all. For appetizers we got the fried green tomatoes and also the lumpia. I loved the sauce with the lumpia, and the blue cheese was clearly fresh made with the tomatoes. Tomatoes had a light and airy feel too. For entrees, we decided to throw decorum out the window and ordered three to share! Got the lamb ribs, filet mignon, and fish and chips. The filet was maybe the best I've ever had! Perfect and worth every penny! The fish was so flaky I needed a spoon and the fried gnocchi was a pleasant take that worked really well! The lamb ribs were perfect too, and I especially loved the turmeric sweet potato mash and the sauce with the lamb. For dessert, we got the crème brûlée and blueberry tart. The tart was good, but the brûlée was heavenly! Lighting was too low for me to get pics, but my wife got plenty to post on her review! I'm thinking about getting another part time job just so we can afford to go here more often! This was our first time, and we were blown away! I've been here another half dozen or more times since my original review, including twice in the past month or so now that we have moved to walking distance from the restaurant. I noticed my original review was only 4 stars (I was a tough grader when I was younger), so wanted to update my review. Everything I liked about 1703 continued to be true, but in my last couple of visits I feel like the flavors have been turned up a bit. For example, the salmon dish came with spicy sesame noodles and a gochujang butter that added some punch. Same for the donburi bowl. At the same time, the dishes were not oversalted which can happen too often especially in Korean-inflected cuisine. We also appreciate that the wine list includes good options in the $30-40 range, instead of only in the $80-100 range (though they have that covered, too). Last, unlike too many stylish restaurants in Winston-Salem and elsewhere (the Katherine, Sir Winston) with their hard wall surfaces, you don't have to shout to hear the person you're dining with. read more

As a side note, they catered my daughter's wedding, and we got so many compliments on the food and service. They are wonderful to work with and their staff is bar none. My special occasion place. A true dinning experience, relax and enjoy the fine food and great service.

The restaurant was pretty busy but was able to squeeze us in last minute, which was appreciated. The seating was very tight and we were close to the surrounding tables, to the point where we could clearly hear their conversations and barely understand each other across the table. The service was good, although the waitress disappeared often and was difficult to flag down. The overall atmosphere was cozy but plain. The bigger disappointment was the food. Their "seafood chowder" was literally just fish soup - blended salmon and soup, with some potato and clam chunks in it. The short ribs were delicious, but the grilled filet mignon was mediocre. It was ordered medium rare, but charred way too much, giving it a very distinct, bad aftertaste. We ordered dessert to try and make up for the meal - the "homemade" chocolate cobbler thing (pictured below). It was more like chocolate syrup with an oatmeal crumble, scoop of ice cream, and berries on top, and it would've been fine if the chocolate wasn't just a runny syrup. I write this during a pandemic where 98% of my time is in yoga pants and t-shirts. THIS IS WORTH THE (suggested) DESS CODE. We sat outside, enjoying the spacious, bright and verdant patio, large umbrellas shaded our table. Several other couples enjoying their waning champagne bottles. Excellent people watching- the appropriate entertainment for such a sophisticated setting. Lots of silver foxes, cardigan sweaters (ladies & gents), strands of pearls, kitten heels, old money & new cars. Staff was so polite; we made a gaffe spilling our milk, the waitstaff never flinched or made us feel more embarrassed (than we already were) The menu was exquisite, we ordered a few things from "simple" (French toast, egg sandwich) to a few dishes a little more sophisticated. Brunch cocktails = perfect combination of brunch+delicious+Southern. We were visiting the area, but will 100% make reservations for our next trip. We don't want to miss a chance to explore the menu breakfast through dinner. I got the feeling that this gem has survived the pandemic with loyal TLC. read more

We had an amazing dinner at 1703! The atmosphere is classy & cozy. The staff was amazing from the moment we called for reservations! We truly enjoyed our experience. Excellent wine menu-drink list. We split the Winter slaw, with blackened shrimp and I cannot wait to go back for this again! Defiantly a favorite! I had the filet mignon, and my husband had the lobster skewers. The presentation was gorgeous, and the taste was on point! We learned from the waitress that the menu changes daily, and the sides are different every day. I love that! We were to full for desert there, but got some chocolate moose to go & let me just say-We should have got 2 it was fantastic! We will be back, very very soon!! This restaurant is located in a nice area and they take reservations. I went here with two others, where we had dinner on the covered patio. The weather wasn't bad out but I was glad they had fire heaters on to keep the temperature more comfortable. The waitress was bibs and I had her bring me a Shirley Temple to drink. Next I ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer. I wasn't sure how they would taste but they turned out to be quite scrumptious. Next I had the sea bass for my entree, as did another person in my group. The third person in our group ordered the trout. I was able to get a taste of his trout and while it was good, it wasn't as good as the sea bass. We closed the meal with dessert. I had the pomegranate sorbet, another person had the chocolate mousse, and another person had a dish I can't recall but we all enjoyed it. Overall it was a nice meal and I would be willing to eat here again. They change the menu daily, so I would be curious to see what they might offer next time! read more
