Tbh, we have been to the 2 locations in W-S many times. This review will be about the Reynolds Village location. We visited on a beautiful summer evening and sat outside. Beautiful patio area with plenty of seating. The menu at this location is slightly more compact than the other W-S location but you will find gems all through the menu. The salmon and Shrimp Hemingway were big hits this visit and are highly recommended. Our server was attentive and always quick with a smile. Definitely will return and worth your visit

The location is genuinely lovely -- and unfortunately, that's where the highlights end. The interior feels dated and in need of some serious TLC. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the Maryland crab cakes, and any true Marylander will tell you -- they should not be shredded. The shrimp and grits looked underwhelming the moment they hit the table, and they were. The pimento cheese dip was decent, but it was served warm, which threw us off. We've never had warm pimento cheese dip -- more of a queso situation -- so maybe our expectations were just misaligned from the start. The one bright spot was our server, who was genuinely pleasant and completely on top of it. Our cocktail, also underwhelming. I think we each only took about two sips from our respective glasses. There's a banner near the entrance boasting Winston-Salem's best restaurant. Look closely and you'll notice it's from 2022. It's a small detail, but it kind of says it all. Village Tavern seems like it was once a real destination, and it's a little sad to see it coasting. Here's hoping they find their footing again -- the location alone deserves it.

    Grilled Meatloaf

(3/5) Village Tavern on Reynolda Road left me with two very different impressions: an excellent kitchen and a disappointing front-of-house experience. Let's start with the food. I ordered the meatloaf, and quite honestly, it exceeded my expectations. Meatloaf is one of those dishes that is often average at best in most restaurants, but this version was exceptionally well executed. It was moist, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The green beans were equally impressive--fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. I was not expecting the meal to be nearly as good as it was, and credit is absolutely due to the kitchen staff. The food alone was worthy of a return visit. Unfortunately, the dining experience itself told a different story. From the moment we sat at the bar, the atmosphere felt tense and chaotic. Employees appeared visibly frustrated, and there was frequent yelling behind the bar throughout the evening. Rather than creating an inviting environment, the service area felt disorganized and stressful. Our appetizer sat under a heat lamp for approximately 20 minutes before being served. Service from our bartender/server, Lashawn, was equally disappointing. When we requested a refill, she rolled her eyes and appeared irritated by the request. Plates were dropped onto the bar rather than placed down, and our check was tossed down in a manner that felt dismissive and unprofessional. I also observed a soda gun being stored in the ice bin behind the bar, which raised concerns regarding sanitation practices. The frustrating part is that the kitchen is clearly doing outstanding work. The meatloaf was one of the better restaurant versions I've had in quite some time, and the vegetables were excellent. However, great food can only carry an experience so far when the service and atmosphere leave guests feeling unwelcome. Food: 5/5 Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 1/5 Overall: 3/5

Not super impressed with this location really. Will say the service was good but I think the place itself needs some help. Bathrooms weren't kept up and need updating and they need more than one ! Just didn't feel like a nice dining space like the other Winston location does even though it's in a great location at the village. It was super busy though so I guess it doesn't matter! Just my personal opinion. We waited 45 mins for Sunday brunch as this location doesn't take reservations. Honestly was it worth the wait no. They were out of a lot of items we asked for and the food was average. There were carpenter bees all over the place, yes I get it was a warm day . But you can do something about the bug situation. Started off by ordering drinks . I ordered a Kir royale as he said they can make them which is rare for any place really to say. Then he came back to say they are out of chambord to make it. Which was fine because you don't use chambord in a Kir! So I just got a glass of Prosecco. My friends had iced tea, which I have to say they keep up with refilling. Ordered their famous potato chips for an app and they were out so just got fries for the table not the same and were kinda just warm. I had the ahi tuna sashimi for my entree which was cooked well and just enough for one. My friends had the Cobb salad which she remembered being really good but was a little disappointed it didn't live up to expectations second time she had it. Also had a side of mashed potatoes and green beans we shared which were good. Overall the service was great... but everything else was mediocre. Which surprised me at this location. I much prefer the Hanes mall blvd location.

Enjoyed our brunch at Village Tavern at Reynolda Village today. Karyn provided great service. It was quite crowded but we found a cozy spot. Michael Moore,GM is a welcoming host and the location caters to new customers as well as repeats. What's good on the menu? I say everything! So please visit. Enjoy the retail shops and create an appetite!

    Pimiento Cheese Dip

My husband and I went to the Village Tavern for our Friday night date night. The food was delicious and our waiter was very friendly. They were out of the appetizer we wanted as well as the meal my husband wanted, so that was disappointing. However, for both items we could decide between 2 options. So, at least we weren't totally disappointed. We ended up getting the hot pimento cheese dip for an appetizer and it was amazing. For our meals we got the ribeye and prime rib. Both were spectacular. For out sides we got sautéed spinach, macaroni and cheese, braised collards and a loaded baked potato. The macaroni and cheese was really good. The rest were only so so. The spinach didn't really have any seasoning. The baked potato didn't have a lot of toppings and the braised collards were tough. The lighting is really dim. I wish it were a little brighter. Also, it was very loud. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and will totally go back. Just make try different sides.

    Shrimp Hemingway

Village Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants and they are always consistent in providing great meals. On my most recent visit I got the Shrimp Hemingway. It is similar to scampi but more amped up. It has diced tomatoes and spinach served in a white wine sauce with angel hair pasta. The dish is so flavorful and addictive. The shrimp is plump and juicy and everything melts together. It is topped with grated parmesan and capers. Food is always great here and service as well. I even enjoy the seating in the bar. Just a great overall staple in the area and you can't go wrong with either location.

This is place is great but for the service of the food !

The food is good, the service is great but it take hrs to get the food , unlike the drinks . The kitchen needs to get organized much better ....

Had to drop the rating slightly. Ate at the bar, and the server was not attentive, dismissive, and just focused on chit chat rather than her job. We also watched our food sit in the window due 10 minutes. Nachos, not a strong dish. Also the bloody Mary was a miss. However their soups are phenomenal. French onion and clam chowder

Good lord in heaven yall....this place better never EVER go out of business! So this review is long over due. My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years. Both locations are wonderful but my fav is in Reynolda Village. It's just so cozy and I feel fancy whenever I go! Tell ya what's not fancy about this place, and that's their prices. It's hard to find a place who's food is beyond stellar and the price point be reasonable. Needless to say, VT has accomplished both. They also have great draft beer selections. I stopped here back in December of last year to grab a late lunch on my way up to the mountains for the holidays. Got the soup and sandwich deal. Was so good and my server was the sweetest lady on earth! Will continue being a loyal patron of this wonderful Winston establishment. Can't wait to go back!

The customer service was great. The staff checked on us throughout our meal and made sure we had everything we needed, which I always appreciate. I ordered the Salmon BLT (hold the bacon) on sourdough with a side of sweet potato fries, and oh my goodness it was so good! The portion size was very generous and definitely filling. The herbed mayo tied everything together perfectly it was *chef's kiss*! They also serve the sweet potato fries with a cinnamon butter for dipping, which was good. I also had a Caesar salad. It was exactly what you'd want from a Caesar salad fresh, flavorful, and another generous portion. If you're a fan of salmon and/or sandwiches, I definitely recommend giving this a try. Who knew a salmon sandwich could be this good? I'll definitely be back! There is parking off to the side though, it is very limited. Be prepared to parallel park !

On the host's recommendation we chose to go inside and sit at the bar. I had not been inside before as I usually opt for the outside seating so I was surprised to see that the interior was more roomy than I had imagined. Once we were seated, near the soothing water feature with a Koi pond, our waitress promptly took our drink orders and apologized for any inconvenience if we were waiting for table and service. Once we got our drinks they served us several orders of warm bread with several different butter choices. At that point, we ordered our main menu items. Service was prompt and went smoothly. We didn't have to wait very long for our food to arrive. The food was very good and there were no complaints from our group. I ordered Ahi Tuna salad. It was a large portion w the Tuna perched on top making an appetizing display. It was reasonably priced at $18, in my opinion, as it was a large salad and I wasn't able to eat the whole thing. Our group had a very pleasant, unrushed time at this restaurant and the host was always nearby and happy to answer questions and chat with us. This restaurant is one of the jewels of downtown 4th street. Stop in for a drink or a nice meal, you'll be glad you did.

Although it's tucked away in an unassuming business district, this restaurant is truly a hidden gem. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm, inviting space and exceptional service. Everyone made us feel welcome, and the attention to detail throughout our meal was outstanding. We started with the Ahi Tuna appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. It was served over a bed of crisp sliced cucumbers and the most amazing vinegar coleslaw. The combination of flavors was fresh, light, and memorable. Even the warm dinner rolls were outstanding and set the tone for the meal. For our entrées, the meatloaf was everything comfort food should be. It was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, served over creamy mashed potatoes with fresh French green beans. We also ordered the Chef's seasonal Squash Casserole, and it was phenomenal. If it's on the menu when you visit, don't miss it. First, the hospitality is top notch. Located in a historic home that sits in the National Register of Historic Places, the restaurant has a classic feel that is well accompanied by a very polite, welcoming staff. The food was spectacular. We ordered the bread service, with the add-on bacon jam and tomato tapenade. The bacon jam is good enough to put on anything and it will taste amazing. We also ordered a delicious Caesar salad to spit. Both were so good I didn't get a chance to take a picture before we started eating. For our main course, my daughter ordered the braised pork shank from the regular menu and loved it. The pork itself was ridiculously fork-tender and the candied cabbage was an incredible sweet counterbalance to the savory sauce. Easily a 9/10 dish. For me, I ordered the Duck, which was perfectly cooked (rare), a great sear, and seasoned incredibly. I was torn on whether the star of the dish was the duck or the accompanying Brussel sprouts. Regardless, a very solid 8/10. The restaurant was very kind to gift us dessert for our special occasion. I had a very happy 10 year old when she saw the dessert plate arrive. Overall, it was an incredible dinner with delicious food at a beautiful restaurant that made my daughter feel like a princess. Can't wait to return!

However, I think it's worth it to get all 4 and find your tastes! My main dish of the Braised Pork Shank was plentiful - so much food!! The meat came right off the bone. I wish the red cabbage was plated with the meal (it came on the side in a bowl), but otherwise, it was a splendid meal. It also made for great leftovers the next day! The blueberry limoncello crisp had such a good flavor combo! The lemon was on the more sour side, but I still liked it. The sweet cream is chef's kiss! The service was very friendly!! Our waitress was kind, and she checked in at good intervals. There were some weird changes in lighting throughout the meal. We wish the lighting had stayed dimmed in the room we were in, but it wasn't a huge deal. Overall, a great place and a great meal for a date night! My husband and I had a lovely time.

I didn't expect the restaurant to be busy on a weeknight, but I was obviously wrong as the parking lot was nearly full. We found a spot at the rear of the restaurant and made our way inside. We were promptly greeted and shown to our table near the fireplace. A quick glance around confirmed that the place was jumping, which is good news for any restaurant during the middle of the week. A good balance of menu options from salads, sandwiches, fish, steaks, etc. Expect to pay $20-30 per person and some entrees are ala carte. They appear to have a good selection of wine, beers and cocktails from the long list in the menu. I went with the lasagna; my wife had the fish and chips; and my colleague went with the Beast Burger. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selection. The temperature of my lasagna could have been a tad hotter, but it wasn't enough of an issue to send it back. I would order it again. Service was good throughout our visit, but I am deducting one star for the noise level. The high ceilings give the restaurant a beautiful lodge look and feel, but they make for a very loud dining experience. The sound level at times was more like a school cafeteria in my opinion. Perhaps a table on the side of the dining room would be quieter where nearby walls could help absorb some of the noise. Bottom line: not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner.
