    Pimento Cheese Dip
    Regan R.

The location is genuinely lovely -- and unfortunately, that's where the highlights end. The interior feels dated and in need of some serious TLC. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the Maryland crab cakes, and any true Marylander will tell you -- they should not be shredded. The shrimp and grits looked underwhelming the moment they hit the table, and they were. The pimento cheese dip was decent, but it was served warm, which threw us off. We've never had warm pimento cheese dip -- more of a queso situation -- so maybe our expectations were just misaligned from the start. The one bright spot was our server, who was genuinely pleasant and completely on top of it. Our cocktail, also underwhelming. I think we each only took about two sips from our respective glasses. There's a banner near the entrance boasting Winston-Salem's best restaurant. Look closely and you'll notice it's from 2022. It's a small detail, but it kind of says it all. Village Tavern seems like it was once a real destination, and it's a little sad to see it coasting. Here's hoping they find their footing again -- the location alone deserves it.

    Grilled Meatloaf
    Davis H.

(3/5) Village Tavern on Reynolda Road left me with two very different impressions: an excellent kitchen and a disappointing front-of-house experience. Let's start with the food. I ordered the meatloaf, and quite honestly, it exceeded my expectations. Meatloaf is one of those dishes that is often average at best in most restaurants, but this version was exceptionally well executed. It was moist, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The green beans were equally impressive--fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. I was not expecting the meal to be nearly as good as it was, and credit is absolutely due to the kitchen staff. The food alone was worthy of a return visit. Unfortunately, the dining experience itself told a different story. From the moment we sat at the bar, the atmosphere felt tense and chaotic. Employees appeared visibly frustrated, and there was frequent yelling behind the bar throughout the evening. Rather than creating an inviting environment, the service area felt disorganized and stressful. Our appetizer sat under a heat lamp for approximately 20 minutes before being served. Service from our bartender/server, Lashawn, was equally disappointing. When we requested a refill, she rolled her eyes and appeared irritated by the request. Plates were dropped onto the bar rather than placed down, and our check was tossed down in a manner that felt dismissive and unprofessional. I also observed a soda gun being stored in the ice bin behind the bar, which raised concerns regarding sanitation practices. The frustrating part is that the kitchen is clearly doing outstanding work. The meatloaf was one of the better restaurant versions I've had in quite some time, and the vegetables were excellent. However, great food can only carry an experience so far when the service and atmosphere leave guests feeling unwelcome. Food: 5/5 Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 1/5 Overall: 3/5

Not super impressed with this location really. Will say the service was good but I think the place itself needs some help. Bathrooms weren't kept up and need updating and they need more than one ! Just didn't feel like a nice dining space like the other Winston location does even though it's in a great location at the village. It was super busy though so I guess it doesn't matter! Just my personal opinion. We waited 45 mins for Sunday brunch as this location doesn't take reservations. Honestly was it worth the wait no. They were out of a lot of items we asked for and the food was average. There were carpenter bees all over the place, yes I get it was a warm day . But you can do something about the bug situation. Started off by ordering drinks . I ordered a Kir royale as he said they can make them which is rare for any place really to say. Then he came back to say they are out of chambord to make it. Which was fine because you don't use chambord in a Kir! So I just got a glass of Prosecco. My friends had iced tea, which I have to say they keep up with refilling. Ordered their famous potato chips for an app and they were out so just got fries for the table not the same and were kinda just warm. I had the ahi tuna sashimi for my entree which was cooked well and just enough for one. My friends had the Cobb salad which she remembered being really good but was a little disappointed it didn't live up to expectations second time she had it. Also had a side of mashed potatoes and green beans we shared which were good. Overall the service was great... but everything else was mediocre. Which surprised me at this location. I much prefer the Hanes mall blvd location.

Enjoyed our brunch at Village Tavern at Reynolda Village today. Karyn provided great service. It was quite crowded but we found a cozy spot. Michael Moore,GM is a welcoming host and the location caters to new customers as well as repeats. What's good on the menu? I say everything! So please visit. Enjoy the retail shops and create an appetite!

This is place is great but for the service of the food !

The food is good, the service is great but it take hrs to get the food , unlike the drinks . The kitchen needs to get organized much better ....

    Shrimp Hemingway
    TaWanna A.

Village Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants and they are always consistent in providing great meals. On my most recent visit I got the Shrimp Hemingway. It is similar to scampi but more amped up. It has diced tomatoes and spinach served in a white wine sauce with angel hair pasta. The dish is so flavorful and addictive. The shrimp is plump and juicy and everything melts together. It is topped with grated parmesan and capers. Food is always great here and service as well. I even enjoy the seating in the bar. Just a great overall staple in the area and you can't go wrong with either location.

Had to drop the rating slightly. Ate at the bar, and the server was not attentive, dismissive, and just focused on chit chat rather than her job. We also watched our food sit in the window due 10 minutes. Nachos, not a strong dish. Also the bloody Mary was a miss. However their soups are phenomenal. French onion and clam chowder

Good lord in heaven yall....this place better never EVER go out of business! So this review is long over due. My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years. Both locations are wonderful but my fav is in Reynolda Village. It's just so cozy and I feel fancy whenever I go! Tell ya what's not fancy about this place, and that's their prices. It's hard to find a place who's food is beyond stellar and the price point be reasonable. Needless to say, VT has accomplished both. They also have great draft beer selections. I stopped here back in December of last year to grab a late lunch on my way up to the mountains for the holidays. Got the soup and sandwich deal. Was so good and my server was the sweetest lady on earth! Will continue being a loyal patron of this wonderful Winston establishment. Can't wait to go back!

They never let me down. Two girlfriends and I finished our Saturday night out with a late dinner. Tho a little chili, we opted for the patio. It's beautiful at night with the patio string lights flickering against their yellow umbrellas. We started with a bottle wine and the delightful crab dip. The crab dip is so crab upward tha the toast that it's served with just compliments it perfectly! I order the Tuna Sashimi and Spring Roll appetizers for my meal. They werflfresh flavorful and delish! My friends ordered the Meatloaf and presented on the menu with greanbeans and mashed potatoes. The otheother friend ordered the Pimento Cheese BLT. They only feedback they provided was the greanbeans could use some garlic and the blt bread could have been toasted. Our server was super attentive, accurate, and friendly. She was nice enough to take a few photos for us at the end of dinner. I've yesterday ro be disappointed by this location! I always look forward to going back! Overall and table of satisfied gals!

When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed!

I ordered the aforementioned Pupusas - 4 Cheese and Pork for $11.50 with Crudito included! These were good, not great, Pupusa - under-seasoned for my tastes (added a Rick Bayless (you must know who he is) measure of salt) and it was were I needed it to be - but still weak! Unfortunately the Crudito was very weak, barely fermented - a great side when done right, not the case here! This was not bad food, but there is better available, even as close as Los Primos, only several miles away! The combination of under-seasoning, lack of pork, and uneven grilling makes this more than a bit off the charts for best of show!

Open 7 days a week, it was convenient for us to stop in for an early dinner. There is a small parking lot and the signage was clear and visible which made it easy to find. We stepped inside and immediately saw their health score of 100%! Impressive - we don't see a perfect score often. We were immediately greeted by the young lady behind the counter and the menu was easy to read and navigate. We asked for a few recommendations and my wife chose the #6 Hibachi with steak and shrimp with fried rice, zucchini, onions, and mushrooms with the white sauce on the side. I chose the #2, 4 chicken tenders with a side of mac n cheese and fries. I chose both the moose juice and buffalo sauces on the side. The prices felt consistent with other local chicken joints and after we paid, we took a seat. There was a steady stream of customers coming and going but they were either picking up to-go orders or placing orders to go. We were the only customers who were eating there. The food took a bit to arrive but we understand it takes longer when it is fresh and cooked to order, which we appreciate. My wife was really impressed with her hibachi meal, she really enjoyed it and there was enough to take leftovers for the next day. My meal was very heavy on the fries and the four chicken tenders felt pretty flat and smaller than I anticipated. The flavors were good but the overall size was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the mac and cheese too. The moose juice was too sweet for me but I am not a fan of a traditional sweeter sauce so I wasn't entirely surprised. My wife decided to splurge and order a banana pudding cup, which she enjoyed but the serving was pretty small and she felt there are other local options that offer better banana pudding. Overall, we would try again and wish them all the best.
