My original plan was to stop here for lunch on Father's Day before dropping my daughter off at a summer program at Wake Forest. There was a 20 min wait and we were starving after a long travel day and eager to get to campus so we ate at the mediocre crepes restaurant next door instead. When we picked her up a week later I was prepared with reservations. However, when we checked in they told us they don't take reservations so it must be for their sister restaurant (oops) and the wait was even longer this time. One of the hostesses mentioned there would be seating clearing at the bar within minutes, which was good enough for us. We sat down 3 minutes later and ordered a few minutes after that. My daughter went for a cheeseburger which she happily ate stating that the food at Wake was NOT good all week. My husband enjoyed his turkey club and packed the other half for his flight later that evening (lunch and dinner). I went with the crab cake appetizer, which I thought was just OK. It was only a few dollars cheaper than the sandwich so I probably should have gotten that instead, but didn't want to be tempted with the bread and fries. We were in and out within 30 minutes, which I appreciated since we had a drive to Chapel Hill ahead of us. First time at the Reynolda location and came away very impressed with the service and food quality. Started the night with their crab dip appetizer and it was delicious. No other way to describe it. I also loved the fact they served it with warm and toasted bread pieces.....added another depth of flavor to the entire bite. Entire thing was filled with crab meat as well. I'm used moreso to the chunkier style of crab dip, if that makes any sense, but whatever they did to theirs passed my test. For our entrees, we both opted for burgers. I've been waiting something that isn't a smash burger for quite sometime. No disrespect to smash burgers, but I've been wanting a thick, hand patted burger and they delivered. I ordered the tavern burger with the medium cook and a side of fries. Burger cook was perfect. One thing I loved was that the actual patty had char marks on it & it added more flavor to it. Very juicy and flavorful. Their fries were solid too....crispy yet soft in the middle. My wife got their bacon jam burger with a well done cook and she raved about how juicy it was. The cook was to her preference as well. She wasn't too impressed with the pasta salad as a side, but she did get an order of sweet potato fries and they were great as well. Finished the evening with their carrot cake and key lime pie to go and they were both delicious. Their key lime may be the best I've had in this area. Our server Morgan was awesome as well. Very attentive and helpful with the menu suggestions and explaining the things she personally liked, along with what was popular with other patrons. Their setup is odd....not saying that in a bad way, but its an older building and the layout says that. We were seated very quickly. Again, Morgan was awesome and made sure we were taken care of. The ambiance was good....very apt for a date night. Didn't get the chance to check out any of the other dishes around, but everyone seemed pleased with the service and the food. The location is genuinely lovely -- and unfortunately, that's where the highlights end. The interior feels dated and in need of some serious TLC. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the Maryland crab cakes, and any true Marylander will tell you -- they should not be shredded. The shrimp and grits looked underwhelming the moment they hit the table, and they were. The pimento cheese dip was decent, but it was served warm, which threw us off. We've never had warm pimento cheese dip -- more of a queso situation -- so maybe our expectations were just misaligned from the start. The one bright spot was our server, who was genuinely pleasant and completely on top of it. Our cocktail, also underwhelming. I think we each only took about two sips from our respective glasses. There's a banner near the entrance boasting Winston-Salem's best restaurant. Look closely and you'll notice it's from 2022. It's a small detail, but it kind of says it all. Village Tavern seems like it was once a real destination, and it's a little sad to see it coasting. (3/5) Village Tavern on Reynolda Road left me with two very different impressions: an excellent kitchen and a disappointing front-of-house experience. Let's start with the food. I ordered the meatloaf, and quite honestly, it exceeded my expectations. Meatloaf is one of those dishes that is often average at best in most restaurants, but this version was exceptionally well executed. It was moist, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. The green beans were equally impressive--fresh, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. I was not expecting the meal to be nearly as good as it was, and credit is absolutely due to the kitchen staff. The food alone was worthy of a return visit. Unfortunately, the dining experience itself told a different story. From the moment we sat at the bar, the atmosphere felt tense and chaotic. Employees appeared visibly frustrated, and there was frequent yelling behind the bar throughout the evening. Rather than creating an inviting environment, the service area felt disorganized and stressful. Our appetizer sat under a heat lamp for approximately 20 minutes before being served. Service from our bartender/server, Lashawn, was equally disappointing. When we requested a refill, she rolled her eyes and appeared irritated by the request. Plates were dropped onto the bar rather than placed down, and our check was tossed down in a manner that felt dismissive and unprofessional. I also observed a soda gun being stored in the ice bin behind the bar, which raised concerns regarding sanitation practices. The frustrating part is that the kitchen is clearly doing outstanding work. The meatloaf was one of the better restaurant versions I've had in quite some time, and the vegetables were excellent. Not super impressed with this location really. Will say the service was good but I think the place itself needs some help. Bathrooms weren't kept up and need updating and they need more than one ! Just didn't feel like a nice dining space like the other Winston location does even though it's in a great location at the village. It was super busy though so I guess it doesn't matter! They were out of a lot of items we asked for and the food was average. There were carpenter bees all over the place, yes I get it was a warm day . But you can do something about the bug situation. Started off by ordering drinks . I ordered a Kir royale as he said they can make them which is rare for any place really to say. Then he came back to say they are out of chambord to make it. Which was fine because you don't use chambord in a Kir! So I just got a glass of Prosecco. My friends had iced tea, which I have to say they keep up with refilling. Ordered their famous potato chips for an app and they were out so just got fries for the table not the same and were kinda just warm. I had the ahi tuna sashimi for my entree which was cooked well and just enough for one. My friends had the Cobb salad which she remembered being really good but was a little disappointed it didn't live up to expectations second time she had it. Also had a side of mashed potatoes and green beans we shared which were good. Overall the service was great... but everything else was mediocre. Which surprised me at this location. Village Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants and they are always consistent in providing great meals. On my most recent visit I got the Shrimp Hemingway. It is similar to scampi but more amped up. It has diced tomatoes and spinach served in a white wine sauce with angel hair pasta. The dish is so flavorful and addictive. The shrimp is plump and juicy and everything melts together. It is topped with grated parmesan and capers. Food is always great here and service as well. I even enjoy the seating in the bar. Just a great overall staple in the area and you can't go wrong with either location. read more

The filet was cooked exactly medium-rare as requested, and the quality of the beef was noticeable from the first bite. The baked potato and green beans were also prepared perfectly. We did takeout, which was quite tasty and well prepared. There was a discrepancy between the front of house and kitchen and they missed a key ingredient in one salad. We improvised so it was ok. Quality checking could be improved. The French onion soup was hearty and flavorful, with a giant croutons and cheese melted on top. The grilled meatloaf entree, highly recommended by others, was quite good. The green beans needed a bit of salt, not a big deal. My wife ordered two salads with house dressing and also one extra side of ranch. The check reflected the order correctly. The salads were made only with ranch dressing and no house dressing at all. Good lord in heaven yall....this place better never EVER go out of business! So this review is long over due. My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years. Both locations are wonderful but my fav is in Reynolda Village. It's just so cozy and I feel fancy whenever I go! Tell ya what's not fancy about this place, and that's their prices. It's hard to find a place who's food is beyond stellar and the price point be reasonable. Needless to say, VT has accomplished both. They also have great draft beer selections. I stopped here back in December of last year to grab a late lunch on my way up to the mountains for the holidays. Got the soup and sandwich deal. They never let me down. Two girlfriends and I finished our Saturday night out with a late dinner. Tho a little chili, we opted for the patio. It's beautiful at night with the patio string lights flickering against their yellow umbrellas. We started with a bottle wine and the delightful crab dip. The crab dip is so crab upward tha the toast that it's served with just compliments it perfectly! I order the Tuna Sashimi and Spring Roll appetizers for my meal. They werflfresh flavorful and delish! My friends ordered the Meatloaf and presented on the menu with greanbeans and mashed potatoes. The otheother friend ordered the Pimento Cheese BLT. They only feedback they provided was the greanbeans could use some garlic and the blt bread could have been toasted. Our server was super attentive, accurate, and friendly. I have been to Village Tavern dozens of times over the years, and I really can't recall a time I ever had a bad meal. I must say, the Reynolda Village location is our favorite. The ambiance is just different and we love it here. If you've never been to Village Tavern, the crab dip appetizer is an absolute must try. I've never had a better crab dip. It's simple, but it's perfection. You can tell it's high quality crab meat, and it's appropriately meaty and cheesy, and the squeeze of lemon balances everything out perfectly. Unfortunately (but also not really unfortunately) this is one place that I never really branch out. I almost always get the blackened chicken Alfredo pasta. I debated on trying the shrimp tacos, but alas, I just couldn't break away from the staple. It's one of my favorite pasta dishes ever, and it's perfect every time. The grilled meatloaf and the steak are also great picks. The service on this particular visit was exceptional. Our server, Eryn, really had all the timing down pat. We weren't rushed, but drinks were kept full, appetizer and entrees were appropriately paced. I am normally one of those people who wants to pay immediately once I'm finished eating and the check had already been dropped off, but again, I never felt rushed. It was a bit early in the afternoon, but it was still pretty busy and the service was excellent and consistent throughout the whole meal. I find sometimes after the food is delivered that service kind of falls off, but definitely not the case here. She was overall just very pleasant and friendly and an excellent server. The lady bartender at VT came out to the breeze way area, and ask if I needed help into VT. I was nonplussed by this expression of heartfelt concern. I thanked her for her concern, and told her this restaurant was a special favorite. She even kindly told me where the restaurant I was looking for was! There is a reason why this restaurant has prospered, and I came face to face with one of the important reasons - these are good folks doing what you hope for! I love the village Tavern, especially the one in Reynalda Village. It has such a cool cozy atmosphere. The food is to die for and the service is excellent! From the delicious appetizers to the scrumptious main courses everything is always stellar and fresh. I love the fact that they have an expansive menu with lots of healthy and not so healthy choices. The servers and chefs are very accommodating and will adjust any of the entrées as far as ingredients that you do not want or you can substitute sides. Solid Sunday Brunch! Came here a few weeks ago for a Sunday Brunch and it did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and didn't have a wait, we got there right when they opened. It does feel a bit crowded, but overall I didn't really mind; the overall atmosphere/energy was upbeat and inviting so it was a pleasant place to be. I love this location- I've been to the one by the mall as well, but it's hard to hold a candle to Reynolda Village. Our bartender was nice and friendly, took our orders promptly and served up some delicious brunch drinks (bloody and mimomas). We ordered the eggs benedict with fresh fruit and avocado breakfast sandwich. Portions were generous, neither of us finished, but we did enjoy every single bite. My spouse and I go to village tavern once a year as a date night treat. We live an hour away so we don't go as often as we like. They have two locations in Winston Salem. We live the vibe of the Reynolds location due to the cute village it's in. The food is always amazing. I got shrimp and grits which is what I get every time. The shrimp is not fishy and the grits are cooked perfectly. My spouse got the meatloaf which I tried of course. It was moist and very flavorful. Lovely lunch today with a friend. We enjoyed our shared lunch. We had the option to sit outside near a fan as it got very hot today. But outside seating was lovely. We started with a shared app of pimento cheese and veggies. The pimento cheese was creamy and smooth and tasted amazing with veggies. It was more than enough to share. We also shared a chicken salad sandwich which was on a beautiful piece of toasted multi grain bread. The sandwich was loaded with chicken and a good amount of Mayo and celery. We chose sweet pot fries for a side and this was accompanied with a nice honey mustard sauce. We enjoyed our lunch and the service was terrific.
