My visit was much to be desired. The pasta salad tasted like cardboard, the Cheerwine was flat and 1/2 of the wings were the wrong flavor. I get that its busy on Wednesdays but I was treated like that I was invisible despite the fact that I was sitting in the middle of the bar directly in front of a touchscreen monitor. Not that I like attention (as a matter of fact, I loathe it) but the server seemed like she was catering to everyone except for me...especially the crowd who showed up way after I sat down and the guy who was next to my right who ask for the remote twice in which she gave to him in a flash. This restaurant has some of the best choices. The menu has something for everyone to nibble on. Me and my family love to eat and chat have a few drinks after a performance or good family day out. Cool sports bar vibe, love the decor featuring local landmarks, mascots, etc. I ordered the Tennessee mule, which I must admit I didn't really care for, the flavors just didn't appeal the way I thought they would. It did taste a little better once it watered down a little. I'll choose something else next time. I also ordered a weekly menu item, Street Corn Pizza, and it was amazing. I had the beef on weck hold the horseradish. My friend raved about the Kimmelweck bun & it did not disappoint. The meat was tender and flavorful and the auju paired with it perfectly. I paid extra and got the sweet potato fries and they were very good as well. But I think next time I'm going to try the regular fries with this sandwich. We came here on a Saturday at 5pm as a party of 4. Luckily there was a table available, but the place is not very big. I was on the bench side of the table and it was not very comfortable. I ordered the special french dip rolls and while they were delicious, you only got 2 rolls cut in half for $10.50 which seemed over priced. For my entree I did the sesame chicken. I did enjoy it, but still would say it seemed overpriced for how much you got. I wish the server checked in on us more as I had to flag them down to get more water. Overall, not a terrible experience, but not sure if I would go out of my way to visit in the future. read more

Great sports bar (Buffalo Bills leaning) on 4th street in downtown! We dropped in to Hungry Palate for a late meal on a Friday night after a baseball game and were not disappointed at all in what we found. There is a good amount of seating inside, as well as patio seating outside for a nice night, or if you want to do some people watching. It was a pretty warm evening, so we opted for indoor dining in the air conditioning. We started off with a couple apps, the buffalo chicken dip and the fried pickles. It would appear based on the amount of Buffalo Bills stuff, as well as some of the menu items, that the owners might be originally from Buffalo. You don't see a lot of Beef on Weck sandwiches offered around here. The apps were both pretty well done, the fried pickle chips had a nice batter on them, buffalo chicken dip was creamy and tangy, befitting a Buffalo bar. For my entree, I got a Beef on Weck, and when you order one of those... you also get the option to get 4 wings as your side, which I did! The sandwich when it came out was a really nice size, packed full of shaved roast beef on a tasty "Costanzo's Kimmelweck" roll (I assume a special Buffalo thing that they have shipped in), and with both au jus and horseradish which I applied liberally. Greatly enjoyed this sandwich, again, a rare find in the Carolinas. The 4 buffalo honey wings it came with were exceptionally good. Plump, juicy, slight crisp to the outside, fantastic sauce. Our first visit to Hungry Palate Bar & Grill. We decided to come here based upon reviews on Yelp. We were greeted by the bartender as we walked in the door. The bar is located on 4th Street across from Merschel Park. Parking in downtown Winston-Salem can be a challenge. Hungry Palate is definitely a sports bar (Buffalo Bills theme...kind of interesting for Winston-Salem). I ordered their Bonfire Old Fashioned, which came with a toasted marsh mellow. It was very tasty...a little less sweet than a standard Old Fashioned. I also ordered their Buffalo Wings. Glad I ordered only eight wings...they were huge!! The hot Buffalo sauce was on point! I came here a while back for the Beef On Weck (weck means roll in German) the Mac & Cheese, and the Bacon and Banana Pepper Dip even though I'm not a fan of the downtown area due to the parking situation. I've had Beef On Weck a number of times in the Buffalo and Corning areas, and was curious to see what the one served here would be like, especially when the menu indicates the rolls are brought in from Buffalo. And I was intrigued by the makeup of the dip because I really like pickled banana peppers, and the posted pictures showing the Mac & Cheese were great. The dip is a mixture of cream cheese with spices, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, and chopped banana peppers. The mixture is topped with grated Romano cheese and banana pepper rings, and served with tortilla chips. This is an excellent dip with great flavor featuring the zesty tang of the peppers, and the overall texture is also a winner. I could eat this everyday! The Beef on Weck was tasty as well with the roll being perfect and well topped with coarse salt and caraway seeds. I ate it as I was shown in the Buffalo area - cut the sandwich in half, take the top of the roll off, spread the horseradish sauce on the top of the bun. Spoon a good amount of the au jus on the roast beef, put the top back on, and dig in - be sure to have plenty of napkins at hand! This was a very good, if rather messy, sandwich. The Mac & Cheese tasted as good as it looked. All in all, an excellent meal. read more

I came in for dinner with a friend, it was a little early on a Friday, around 6pm, and there was plenty of room. Somewhere around 6:45pm the restaurant was absolutely loaded with customers. This place has been a number of restaurants over the years, and the inside is somewhat non-descript. It was clean, and the bar area seemed to be pretty popular. We were waited on by Cristina, who was super professional and always within arm's reach for us. Since this was my first time here, I asked Cris which items are most popular. She mentioned the Beef Weck, and I ordered that. But before the sandwiches came out, we ordered a side of street corn dip. This came with some fried tortilla wedges and the dip. The dip is good and sorta resembles street corn. It has a decent flavor, but that flavor could have popped a little more. The tortilla wedges are vehicles for the dip. The beef weck is a good sandwich. It comes with sides of jus and what tastes like fresh horseradish. My first bite was salty as anything due to a seasoning crusted on the outside of the bun. I should have dipped to maybe spread that around, but I like to try things with and without dips and sauces. The sandwich is quite tasty, good meat! Hungry Palate also has in-house made onion rings, which is something I would always go for. I love good onion rings. These are super tasty and medium crumbly. Decided to swing by this place and check it out recently. In my opinion it's a great pre-game spot or spot to catch a few games and have a bite to eat and get a few drinks. It's in the heart of downtown Winston the parking might be a bit overwhelming if you're not used to parallel parking other than that it's pretty easy to find. There food choices are pretty good I must say it's a little bit of everything for everyone so if you have any vegetarian friends they could find something easy on the menu to eat as well! The service was good I did witness them handle a pretty large party and it seemed to get handled well which is always nice to see especially if you plan on coming back. I got a Thai Chicken Wrap it was pretty good and I got the pasta salad as a side. The pasta salad I must say was crazy good was not expecting that! i have mixed feeling about this restaurant and bar in downtown Winston-Salem. I'll give it four stars, because I liked the food and think it has so much potential. Our group of seven went on a Wednesday night about 6:30PM. We were seated right away, and our server appeared to take drink orders. The drink menu is extensive with a great selection of local and regional craft beers on draft, and an even broader list of craft beer in bottles and cans. They also offer a pretty extensive wine selection, and a collection of craft cocktails. Four of us ordered beer, two had wine and one a Margarita. That's when things started to get in trouble. Our server came back with drinks but couldn't remember who ordered what. And she wasn't so sure which beer was which. Honestly, I think she got our order mixed up with someone else's. I had ordered a Hazy IPA from Jamestown, but what I got didn't look too hazy. I questioned her on it, and was assured it was the right one. A half-a-glass later, the bartender showed up with the hazy, and exchanged it for the half consumed whatever it was. Andy had the Margarita - it was good!! She ordered another. Our food orders began to arrive. It was dollar wing night so we had ordered two sets of wings (different flavors). They arrived in a timely fashion along with small plates to share. The wings were good, well cooked, meaty and flavorful. They offer lots of different sauces. The dinner menu is varied with the usual burgers and sandwiches and a good selection of appetizers, salads, and other entrees. I ordered a Teriyaki Chicken and Rice Bowl. It included a whole, boneless chicken breast, over white rice, covered with Teriyaki sauce. The rice was OK by restaurant standards. They would be well served by a rice cooker to achieve the proper sticky rice texture needed for this dish. The bowl was garnished with a mixture of veggies including broccoli, carrots, squash, and slivers of sweet red peppers and onions. it was different - and really good. Gerald has fish and chips - the traditional British dish with an ample serving of fried fish and fries. Was served with slaw and slivered carrots, and hushpuppies. Gerald said it was good. I tasted a hush puppy - not the best I've had but it was ok. Andy had a Meatball Sub. She has asked for them to include some sweet peppers and onions on the sandwich, but they never made it. Andy said the sandwich was good, but she was disappointed to not have the peppers. She asked our server about them and she brought a serving in time to added to our take out box. Several in the group split a pizza. House made crust with lots of toppings. Our group likes pizza well done - so this one went back to the kitchen for a little more time in the oven. Still wasn't a crispy crust like we all like. The place is small, and seating is crowded. And it is pretty noisy. There is long bar, with a half-dozen TVs. There is some outdoor seating. North Carolina prohibits smoking in indoor spaces, so several customers went outside to smoke. The stood just outside the main door, and every time the door open, the smoke came in. Management need to destinate a smoking area away from the front door. Finally, the problem with this restaurant is a lack of training for the service staff. I'm sorry, but mixing up craft beer orders at $7 and $8 a glass in inexcusable. Forgetting a special request like the peppers us also a problem. Management, take heed! You have good food, and great potential. We will return. read more

My husband and I stopped by here after reading reviews, we were very please with the service, our waitress was very bubbly and seemed to be in a great mood. She recommended the special of drunken chicken and waffles and that's what I decided to get, my husband got the roast beef with au jus sauce and 4 wings. That roast beef was so tender and juicy, and the bun was super soft. My chicken and waffles paired very well together with the sweet and salty combo and the bourbon syrup was the cherry on top. I struggled for a bit on what rating to assign here, but finally settled on four stars. In reality it might be a bit less, but I felt like three stars wasn't fair either. My wife found Hungry Palate on social media and we dropped in here on a weekend night as part of a larger night out in downtown. We were seated quickly and it wasn't as busy as I'm used to for the area on a weekend. The setup is neat, with a long row of tables with benches against the wall and chairs opposing, then a large bar. The benches were a bit cramped for a large guy like myself, but it wasn't a bad setup. Inside was a bit plain, and could use some more color or decor, but I believe they are fairly new. It is much of what you expect for a sports bar, with a handful of TVs, some average food, and a small crowd. I could see people being "regulars" here. The beer selection was strong, and the sour I ordered was served fast, cold, and with a quality pour. It seemed like a well outfitted bar had we wanted to order more or get cocktails. Our server was attentive, and I appreciated his honesty to say "It's not that good" when I asked his input on a specific item. In a service industry, it's not just about the sale, and I appreciated honest feedback so I could make better choices! We got the street corn dip appetizer. The dip itself was great but the "tortilla points" it was served with weren't. They were cold, oily, and broke easily, and I assume they're fried in batch earlier in the day. I would have preferred regular salty tortilla chips here. Entrees were decent (although, honestly I can't recall what we ordered now, as it didn't specifically make an impression on me either.) What I do remember is that my side dish (macaroni and cheese) was pretty good but was not delivered until we had finished the rest of our meal, with an excuse that "they're real busy in the kitchen." Honestly, for the number of empty seats, I wouldn't expect the kitchen to be busy, and it's not good form to deliver parts of the meal so much later. All told, this was a pretty average experience that wasn't specifically memorable, but also not negative. I did glance at the wings on a nearby table, and think I would try them next time! Hungry Palate seems worth another try, I just need to find the right menu items to order in a place that is trying to sell a bit of everything. read more

It was really good, but it could have been over the top with a little bit of heat. Also, the chips/bread it was served with was a bit too greasy. For our meals, we both opted for the taco specials of the day. We each order one fish and one shrimp taco, but mine were blackened, and hubby's were grilled. Hubby had nothing but great things to say about his tacos. I thought mine were a bit too spicy and not enough flavor. I threw tome of the corn dip on mine to help balance the heat. Got the Wreck sandwich last night 1-10-2026. It was freaking AMAZING! The roast beef was perfectly cooked, seasoned so well it just melted in your mouth. There was so much beef on this sandwich I had to take some off to actually eat it. The roll was soft, not chewy and had its own added seasoning that complimented the au'jus perfectly. The au'ju was so good, Im not ashamed to say...I just drank the last of it. I opted for the pasta salad that is always amazing, no disappointment here, great meal, worth every penny.
