For a birthday dinner, I love a good steakhouse but wanted to try something new away from my usual spots, and my wife suggested Spotted Cow. When we first walked in, it was busy and we heard the hostess tell the couple in front of us they would need to wait over an hour for a table - Lucky for me my wife made reservations and we were seated immediately! It was a bit on the noisy side but not so bad we couldn't have a conversation. Our servers, Thomas, was fantastic start to finish with good recommendations, attentive service without being overbearing, and a great personality. Good staff make a business shine! We started with glasses of wine and were impressed with how generous they poured. Perhaps it was a visual illusion, but they felt like very large glasses of wine and made it feel like a very good value. They have a good selection of wines to choose from along with a full bar. Appetizer was the Crab Cake Egg Rolls, something I don't think I've seen anywhere else. They're cooked in Beef Tallow which gave a very savory flavor and crispy texture. They were a bit on the oily side but overall flavor was delicious, and I really liked the dipping sauce which was like a very herb-heavy tartar sauce. For entrees, my wife had the Filet and I had a New York Strip. I don't have the words to describe how delicious and perfectly prepared both of these were. I didn't even bother asking for steak sauce because the perfectly tender and seasoned steak didn't need it. Nobody wants to pay high prices for a steak and receive something low quality, and I was thrilled with the quality of the steaks here. Surrounding tables likewise had great looking meals and I overheard them voicing pleasure too. As sides go, the baked potatoes and salads were excellent too. I got the hot bacon vinegarette dressing and was surprised it was actually served quite hot. It had a really rich and slightly tangy flavor that was unique and I really enjoyed on my salad. I have no complaints here and will absolutely be back. Of course it's on the pricey end, but this is the type of establishment you reserve for a special night out, not your average Tuesday night. Really enjoyed our time here. The patio is adorable and we had perfect weather, which honestly made the whole outing. Food was good -- not life-changing, but tasty and worth the visit. To be fair none of us ordered steak... at a steakhouse, so that could have been our issue. Our server was really friendly and attentive. We did have a small mishap and one friend's meal was forgotten and came out late, but the atmosphere was so pleasant and we were enjoying chatting so it was easy to overlook. I cannot figure out how I haven't reviewed this place before! We have been so many times now. It's our "parent's night-out" go-to! If we want to fix up a bit and go out, this is immediately where I suggest! It's very intimate as in, you're going to sit close to other people. I don't love the seating, but the food makes up for it. I always get a sirloin, baked sweet potato, macaroni and cheese, and I add shrimp. It's pretty expensive compared to other "Steak Houses" but it is upscale and it's so delicious! The rolls they give you to start are divine and the service is wonderful! We came here on a Tuesday night and had a great experience. The restaurant was full. We had a reservation and still had to wait so I was hoping the food was delicious since they pack our a house on a Tuesday night. It was. I had the filet mignon with a loaded baked potato on the side. The filet mignon was given to us well done at first so I had to send it back to the kitchen to the kitchen because I ordered medium. The second time they brought it out it was cooked correctly. The crab cake egg rolls weren't great but they were okay. I probably wouldn't order those again because there's so much other good options on the menu. I decided I wanted to try a new spot for my birthday and I had heard good things so I was excited to give it a try. First off, the atmosphere is nice but as others mentioned it's tight inside. However, knowing that going in I lowered my personal space expectations. It took a few minutes to be greeted by our server and it felt rushed and wasn't a warm welcome. I always try and give the benefit of the doubt and give grace. However, when I nicely asked for rolls, her response was to smirk and turn away visibly annoyed. As you can imagine it didn't get better after that. So the incredibly cold and rude service in itself would deter me from coming back. Let's get to the food. You can't go wrong with yeast rolls and cinnamon butter. I loved my salad and the dressing was delicious. My husband ordered soup and enjoyed his but just a few short minutes after receiving our soup and salad, our entrees arrived. The timing was ridiculous. We didn't even have room on our two top table for all the dishes and couldn't enjoy our food with the rushed timing. My husband just had to stop eating his soup prematurely. My steak came out rare and had to be sent back. The manager was very nice and prompt to get it taken care of. However, when it came back it was charred on the outside and lacked seasoning. My husband's ribeye was much better in temperature being accurate, flavor, and seasoning. Also, they brought back the same dish of mashed potatoes with my recooked steak so they were stone cold. The waitress seemed unfazed and unconcerned. The manager offered dessert on the house which was nice and she highly recommended the strawberry shortcake. It was beautifully presented but did not live up to the hype. There was an artificial sweet after taste that was just not appealing to either of us. I would give it another chance because I think given our experience there's no denying they are doing some things right. But the service must improve along with kitchen timing. read more

I had the best Galentine's dinner here with my friends! Made a reservation for Thursday (Feb 13) 630pm for 8 people. We actually had 9 and they were able to accommodate us no problem. We were seated in the back corner table. It's a really small spot, next to Little Pep (my fav. wine bar downtown). Our waitress Nikki was very friendly and attentive. She gave some personal recommendations and split the checks properly at the end (FYI gratuity included on large parties). We split a couple bottles of bubbles and red between the table and had a variety of filets, sirloin, and chicken entrees. My filet was cooked medium and was very flavorful, tender, and juicy. The asparagus was tasty too - wish I had gotten the mac and cheese because that was out of this world! I had a lemon drop martini and one of my friends got the purple rain - we both enjoyed the cocktails. We were too full for dessert but the peanut butter mousse was tempting! I had been telling everyone that this was my favorite place to eat in WS, so we went for a special occasion. Wow, what a big disappointment from start to finish. I felt like maybe we were visiting a home where in secret mom and dad were fighting. I think we had 4 different servers for whatever reason. One was good and we have had her before. Another young woman brought an item, huffed at us when she brought a salad and we didn't know who it belonged to in our party of 5. That is because two people ordered salad but only one came, and it was loud, dark, hard to hear, and we were deep in conversation. She all but rolled her eyes and plunked it down nowhere in particular on the table, turned on her heel and walked away. We got the wring drinks. They forgot one of our sides. They brought us the wrong bill. They ran out of baked potatoes and said making more would "take too long." It was overcrowded and anywhere I sat a small bag seemed to be an issue. One cocktail was unpleasantly over boozy, I hear. The Brussels sprouts were nice. I will look for another favorite restaurant for special occasions. I wasn't really hungry for a big meal so I chose the Cow for appetizers The first thing to know about this place is that the staff is incredibly wonderful. I decided to have appetizers at the bar. The bartender, was warm, patient, and friendly. I had been here once before, having the mushrooms and a crab dish. I remember supreme satisfied. So today I ordered the wedge salad and the stuffed mushrooms. The wedge salad arrived and it might have been the best wedge salad I have ever had. Usually when you have a wedge salad you run out of toppings before you run out of lettuce. This restaurant understands the correct proportions and, as a result, the salad. was perfect. The mushrooms are, and they were perfect also. I had it once before so I remembered that it was great. Perfect amount of cheese... Green onions... Every bite tasty When I asked for my bill, I was told that someone randomly paid for mine. No questions and no details provided by the restaurant. An incredible act of kindness by North Carolina resident. Spotted Cow used to have a waitress named Amelia. She was not there this night, but I recall that she was top-notch Between the food... We came here for the first time last night and had a great meal. I had a 5:45 reservation but it wasn't needed as there were only ~3 other parties there when we arrived. It's a smaller restaurant, which added to the ambiance and intimate setting. I did get a little nervous wondering why no one else was eating here, but I guess not everyone has our early eating habits. By the end of the meal, the place was packed! We ordered the avocado queso fundido dip, which was excellent and a great start to our meal (our server, Christian, who was also excellent, said it's a very popular appetizer). There were a wide selection of many types of steaks, but I opted for the smash burger instead. And boy...it was a GREAT choice! It's one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was saucy, juicy, and messy - just the way a smash burger should be! I literally didn't need a single condiment (very rare for me) because the burger was simply perfect. I also loved the loaded baked potato, cooked just right. The only bummer were the glazed carrots, which were too sweet and didn't taste much like honey. Had Reservations last night for 8:15 on a Friday night. We arrived provably 20-25 minutes early and were seated immediately. The restaurant was small and tables were tightly closed together but the ambiance was great. I believe our servers name was Mel and she did fantastic! When she asked us if we've ever been there before and we said no, she immediately gave us a tour of the menu. The drinks were refreshing, food was hot and delicious and the steaks were cooked perfectly!! Went on July 11 Whew, they were struggling that night. They kept bringing us random dishes we didn't order like we were on some kind of surprise tasting menu. Every five minutes, a new person would roll up to the table asking what we ordered--at this point, I was ready to grab a notepad and start taking orders myself. It took 30+ minutes just to place our order, which was giving very much "please be patient with us, we're in shambles." And let's not forget I had to ask for a water refill like I was being punished for staying hydrated. But I'll give credit where it's due--the food? Fire. They definitely saved the show with that. I've been here twice before and had great service, so I'll let this one slide and call it an off night. They serve nice dinner rolls all buttered up. My friend got the sea bass and I had the grilled shrimp. Sea bass was great served with crab and citrus butter on a bed of rice pilaf . She chose a side of Brussels which were flash fried. She loved it. Nice big servings and also comes with a house salad. She did say it is very filling. I had the 8 count shrimp and they were huge! Served on skewers again on rice pilaf which I liked, seasoned really nicely. I got a sweet potato and green beans as my side. I lightened mine as much as I could and took half home. The desserts looked and sounded great but we couldn't indulge as we were full. Service was really good and our sever was really sweet and personable. If maybe prefer to sit at the bar when I come back. And maybe share a dish. Obviously they have their act together as the steaks seem to be popular! Food and service were good, we weren't blown away by the steak but it was tender and presented nicely. Asked for medium rare and it came out rare, which was fine with us so we didn't mention it. Although the table next to us sent both their steaks back so it may have just been an off night in the kitchen. The Chilean sea bass with crab doesn't look pretty in my pic but it was very good, I would order that again. We both loved the lemon "shortcake" and it was huge! Would def get that again. My husband and I ate at Spotted Cow to celebrate his birthday. He had been once before and had a good experience and word on the street is that it is delicious so I had high expectations. I guess I was anticipating a more traditional steakhouse vibe when we walked in (leather booths, etc). It's not unattractive it was just smaller than I had expected and I was disappointed that there were no booths, which is my dining preference. There is a wooden banquette running along one wall and then a row of tables for four (where we were seated). Nothing "wrong" with it, just not as private and cozy as I had imagined. Obviously my husband had no issues since had been there before and chose to return for this celebration! Our server was very nice and friendly and brought us delicious melt in your mouth rolls with honey butter. Bread is a great way to win me over. I had checked out the wine list ahead of time and after researching had settled on the Saint-Galet Chateauneuf Du-Pape. This was a delicious red blend that I highly recommend. It was a great accompaniment to both our steaks and sides. Husband and I paid $1 extra each to order "Chef Sides" vs "Steakhouse Sides" and I would say it was well worth it. I got the Chimichurri Potato Wedges and he got the Mac & Cheese, and we shared. Both were delicious and lovely accompaniments. I ordered the filet mignon, medium. It had a nice flavor but was more charred than I had expected and had no pink or red on the inside. My husband's steak was rarer than he had expected but still in the acceptable zone. Our entrees came out before our salads so we had to ask about our salads. By the time they arrived they looked nice but I didn't eat much of mine because I was pretty well into my main course at that point. For dessert we shared a slice of Creme brûlée cheesecake. This had the traditional crisp, caramelized sugar topping and was quite delicious. Overall, an enjoyable experience. I look forward to returning and enjoying the rolls and sides again. It was great to see a restaurant team that works like a family. We did the crab egg rolls and calamari as appetizers. The egg rolls were filled with real crab and were quite tasty but not the favorite. The calamari stole the show as our appetizer. The dipping sauce was good and the breading wasn't overpowering but still well seasoned. The NY strip was cooked perfect even with it being a thick cut. I got the chimichurri wedges and brussels sprouts instead of the side salad. I loved the wedges! I could have ate an entire plate of them. The Brussel sprouts were good and had a good flavor but didn't stand out. My friend got the macaroni and cheese and it was amazing! Hot, cheesy, and creamy! They have a good wine list with variety that offers great pairing options. My friend enjoyed the sangria. We booked a reservation for my husband's birthday since he wanted a steakhouse. It didn't disappoint. I have to say that this is my top place for a steak in all of the triad. Some will probably call me crazy but I like a medium well steak where it is just a light bit of pink but not blood still oozing and occasionally I do want the straight medium. I have never been somewhere that can keep the steak so tender when it is a medium well steak; I don't know their secret but it is amazing!!! If you are craving a juicy, tender steak, you have to get yourself over to the Spotted Cow! On top of that, their drinks are great, the appetizer of stuffed mushrooms are addictive, and the sides were all very good. I had the Brussels sports and Mac and cheese and both were extremely delicious; highly recommend. Now, you will notice I have no photos of the entrees, this is because the stuffed mushrooms were so good that when I got my plate, I dug in so quickly that I completely forgot! On top of the food being amazing, our waitress was so helpful when it came to my husband's birthday. I knew my husband likely wouldn't want dessert after his full meal so asked if she could box one up even if he said he was full since I knew he would want it later. She went above that and even brought it out in a to go box with a sparkler to be able to sing him happy birthday and he did end up digging into it a little bit. read more

So my expectations were low. But to my surprise the food and service were amazing. Our waitress, Alexandra, was sweet and attentive. We both ordered the 7 oz filet medium. (Sorry no pic) it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful and tender. I got a side salad and baked potato. All very fresh. The potato was seasoned perfectly. My friend got the Brussels and Mac n cheese. I stole a bit of both and loved it. Brussels were crispy with a great flavor.
