#1 thing this places needs to improve is the food. First off I did take out. I don't know if it's because this small town has limited places to eat so they really don't give a dam, either eat here or a liquor store cup of noodles. I wished I would have chosen that cup of noodles. Ahi tuna nachos are not tasty, besides it being like 5% tuna and 95% wonton chips, the sauces used are very bitter, tuna was funky looking. I also ordered the salmon cakes and that was also not good. This is my Opinion, everyone has their own taste buds. The one that got me upset was my 3 year olds cheeseburger. It was raw raw raw raw not like "medium well" little pink in middle. Edges were raw like they threw the patty on the grill for 5 seconds. I didn't feed her that for safety, so I had her munch on the rock hard fries. I feel so bad being honest about my experience at this restaurant, maybe it was just a busy night or maybe the wrong set of chefs working, but it was def not our night. I would not recommend at all, if this is the only restaurant open just to get some cereal or cup of noodles and wait till morning. Out of all the restaurants we've tried in Mariposa/El Portal, 1850 has been the best! They provide a huge portion of fries/onion rings as a side. Came here after a day full of hiking in Yosemite and was in need of a rewarding meal. Everything was amazing from the mouthwatering dinner plates to the tasty beer and amazing customer service! We've visited a few times and you can't go wrong with the menu and beer selection. The staff is so friendly and deliver quick, quality service. We were looking for a quick lunch place after a zipline trip and this restaurant had food choices that catered to everyone. For lunch, I ordered the shrimp louie salad and it came with generous portions of shrimp, eggs and avocados. The salad was delicious and filling and the price was very reasonable at $13.95. There are a lot of other lunch options available such as made to order burgers, sandwiches and a variety of salads. As for service, there is no wait table service. Patrons order at the counter and food would be brought to your table when ready. There is also a self help water station where guests can grab water/iced tea. Delicious! We brought our toddler and they were easily accommodating for little kids. We got the fried chicken which was very good, and the tri tip which was cut like a steak- we are used to thinly sliced Santa Maria style and were thus surprised when in came out, but it was still really good! There is only one thing you need to know: Get the Finney Fries! I did family style with my friends so we were able to try a variety of things: the smoked ribeye, eighteen fifty burger, seafood pasta, and finney fries. And the only thing we remembered after dinner were the finney fries. The sauce was amazing and we literally wiped that plate clean. We dipped the fries from the burger into the finney sauce. We dipped the broccoli from the ribeye into the finney sauce. Someone even tried dipping the steak into the finney sauce haha. Friends who didn't do family style with us and just got the ribeye for themselves were a little disappointed in the size of the ribeye and wished they had just gotten a full order of the fries as their entree. They have a very good selection of beer . I got a juicy IPA . It was very flavorful, but was not cold enough. On a day that is 90+ I would have loved this beer if it was cold. Salmon cakes - The first bite tasted so good. but looks like it was not thawed enough. The center part was cold and did not get cooked well. Wow...possibly the best burger I have ever had. To be fair, I started to appreciate burgers beyond In-N-Out as of the last few years, so I haven't tried hundreds; however, my friends agreed that these were very delicious and filling burgers and fries. Also, it makes sense because you're paying for a burger at a premium cost. We got the bootjack burger, steakhouse burgers, and the 1850 burger- all of which were requested to be medium rare (all burgers usually come medium) and to substitute garlic fries. The pictures on reviews and even my own do not do the burger and fries justice in terms of quantity and quality. I had the bootjack burger and it was amazing! Every bite was so flavorful and I was worried that it might be overpowering in bbq sauce; however, it was a tasteful amount and even though the burger was packed with ingredients and with the meat being bigger than the bun, it wasn't too salty or heavy. Often, burgers come with so little meat and a huge amount of bread, but here that was not the case. It was very well balanced. Every bite was delicious. The fries were so good too and they did not go cheap on the garlic. Real garlic is used. Often, garlic fries are made with garlic powder and even then you can barely tell, but here they use real bits of garlic and there are chunks with cheese&salt mixed in. We came here on a recommendation from a cashier at the grocery store across the street. The service model is efficient and fast- order at the counter, get your own water, a runner brings out other beverages and food. The food was 10/10 and came a lot quicker than expected. We were a little worried because there was a rush just as we came in but the cooks and servers got it done. The ambiance is very cute and the patio is dog friendly. Awesome!!! Sister had children's mac and cheese. It was wonderful, a larger portion than she expected and a little smokey. Kids buttered noodles was similarly a larger portion and even though i know it was just buttered noodles, lacked flavor, but was easily fixable with a shit ton of pepper and a little salt. salmon cake salad was awesome with really good feta. came with strawberry dressing which we forgot to ask for without the strawberry dressing and rather balsamic, but it only was on the salmon cake and was wiped off easily, and staff was happy to bring us balsamic. The shroom burger was again, larger than expected, and had an unusually selection of mushrooms, but was welcome. you ordered at the bar and paid immediately (before sitting down and getting food). Family member ordered a fake beer, which they were out of (them being out of the fake beer is no big deal) but they had only told us after we paid and sat down. he got a diet coke instead, but since we had already paid, we didn't ever really get refunded, and i can't assume that a fake beer and diet coke cost the same. place was clean and had a nice bathroom. read more

My partner and I were in town visiting my brother who suggested this spot that is owned by the same people who also own the local brewery. Atmosphere is nice, we sat at the bar and sampled a few of their beers, chatted over the pretzel appetizer, and ordered some lunch. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable about their brews and being such a small community, I had an opportunity to chat with their brewer as he popped in for something while I had been talking to the waitress. At the brewer's (Rico!) suggestion, I tried a seasonal brew called Chubby Bunny! Super delicious and that is saying something as I've never been a big beer fan. We bought a growler of it on our way out of town to bring with us to family in Huntington Beach. Food was good too; I ordered the turkey sandwich and was living for the onion jam and my partner ordered the fish and chips which he was impressed with. Visited this restaurant for dinner after a day of hiking in Yosemite. We were a bit early for our typical dinner hour and not necessarily hungry even after hiking, but i was looking for a steakhouse and I love local places so there we were. Promptly greeted and seated. We were immediately told dinner starts in 15 minutes but they could seat us and get us started with drinks. There were four other seated parties in dining room who were apparently there for lunch as their food started to come out within the first five minutes of us being seated. It took a while to have our drink order taken but we were comfortable nonetheless. After our drinks (tea and water) came out, server took order. I would typically get a filet but I decided to go with the tri tip because I was interested in the house BBQ sauce. My date ordered the NY steak, medium. Both dishes to come with potato and vegetable. One thing I found odd. While food was coming out for those folks who were there before us, the waitress told us she couldn't put our order in for another ten minutes. While we were told this when seated as well, I just found it completely odd as the kitchen clearly does not seem to be closed. It was fine, as we were not starving and it was only ten minutes. They obviously have their rule for internal reasons and I'm not trying to circumvent that. I just found it weird food is coming out of kitchen but they can't receive the order for ten minutes. Anyway... Both dishes came out looking lovely, but the NY steak that was ordered medium, and my tri tip, were both very well done (meaning cooked a bit too much), and mashed potatoes were just warm enough to not be room temperature. Despite this, my meal was tasty and I enjoyed the House BBQ sauce. The broccoli was steamed and seasoned perfectly. I ate most of my meal but both would have preferred the meat not be so well-done. The lemon honey creme brûlée was good. Service was decent. Atmosphere was that of a typical small town brewery. I found it charming and comfortable. I did not try any of the beer. read more

Mariposa is a small town with limited options, made even more limited with COVID-19 safety measures in place. My boyfriend and I visited 1850 Restaurant on a sleepy July Thursday evening with the intention of getting takeout. After seeing their socially distanced tables, servers with masks and readily available hand sanitizer, we decided to dine, instead, on their make shift patio which is essentially their front parking lot. They made it in to a pleasant seating area with umbrellas to shield diners from the blazing setting sun. The menu features salads, burgers, fish entrees and pasta dishes. I opted for the black bean burger with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend got the seared ahi plate. It was all very good and the dining experience was great-excellent service. One slight complaint is that they up charge $1.50 to substitute a veggie burger for a real burger (seems odd given that beef is usually more expensive.) While it was quiet and pleasant, with lots of room between tables, we drove by on Friday and Saturday nights and the place was packed with diners waiting for a table. They still had a small amount of tables but I imagine the wait was longer. Definitely recommend having one meal if you're driving through or staying in the area. They are also open for take out, if that's your preference. read more

My favorite place for a burger in the area. Their blue cheese burger is my fav. Sweet potato fries are crispy and seasoned, but their 'side of ranch' is a bit small.
