I came here with my family for my 21st birthday. It was a snap judgement to come here instead of the other restaurants I was looking at but it definitely worked out in my favor because I had an AMAZING time! The place is beautiful. Super super cozy, dimly lit, formal and old fashioned. It even smells amazing, like fresh herbs. I loved looking around at all the decorations, the artwork and the crab-themed decor were special. I don't go to haute restaurants, like, ever but I didn't feel out of place for a second thanks to the amazing service. Our waitress was very personable, she sang us happy birthday and we had some fun brief conversations. Even the diners at surrounding tables were friendly and lively. I got a few "happy birthday"s from kind strangers. There are no words that could describe how amazing my cobb salad was... I thought I might cry while I was eating it. Shaw's is one of those places I often visit when in Chicago. 2 decades ago i thought the downtown restaurant was more consistent, but r I still go. I've hit the Schaumburg location a couple of times when passing through as I did on this trip. Had a great lunch yesterday at Shaw's in Schaumburg. I'm very surprised the reviews aren't higher. The city location has been one of my favorite lunch spots for years and it was my first time at the other location so I was curious if it would carry the torch. Long story short, it did! The space has a very similar vibe with its own suburban layout. The food was just as good as the city. Everything from Oysters, soup, and sushi were a 10/10. I thought the most disappointing part of the meal was the lobster bisque. The texture of the julienne carrots contrasted with the other ingredients in the bisque. Given this is a seafood restaurant, I thought they would use fresh lobster. Unfortunately, the lobster was processed and ate like it was machine pressed. It's been a while since I have showed Shaw's some love. It's great to know that while my favorites, and prices here have changed, the same great quality food and service has not. My usual menu picks include a French Martini and crab cake. However tonight I ordered the delicious seafood salad and could only eat about a third of it. The grilled calamari makes for a solid start to a meal too. If you get this, try dipping some bread into the sauce and capers from this perfectly cooked appetizer. It was Valentine's night on a Friday so it was super busy, but our drinks were kept as full as our bellies. Thank you Shaw's! I'll be back soon for Restaurant Week and Lent. read more

I'm finally getting around to writing a proper review of our experience here back in February. My wife and I came here to celebrate my birthday. Our server was wonderful, however the salmon dish my wife was served had 2 metal pellets embedded within the potato side. The first bite she took that had the first pellet, she thought it was just a hard crispy piece so she spit it out and set it aside, not seeing exactly what she bit down on. She continued eating, until she bit down hard on an even larger pellet, which was sent back to the kitchen to show them and never returned back to us as evidence. I'm not sure if these pellets were broken off from a kitchen utensil, or where they could have come from, but this immediately ruined our dinner once we figured out that it was a foreign object, and my wife's tooth was hurt. Upon speaking with the manager, our bill was zeroed out, and she took down our information for corporate to reach out to us. We heard from corporate the following Monday, an insurance claim was started, and my wife went to her dentist for x-rays. Luckily there wasn't any permanent tooth damage, only bruising. We never heard any follow up or check in from corporate afterwards, neither the restaurant. Highly unprofessional. What should've been a night out celebrating turned into a night of high stress and regret for choosing this restaurant. read more

Everything here was wonderful. The service, the staff, the food, the ambiance. Came for a rehearsal dinner. Beautiful place altogether. I will definitely come again on my own just to be able to enjoy it again and make sure that it wasn't just because of the event. We had a great New Year's Eve 2024 dinner at Shaw's. I'm glad we reserved because the dinner hour wasn't available! We went in for an 8:45 reservation and our server, Raul, was awesome. Now, normally when you go to a restaurant during the holiday, everything is questionable and not up to par. That is NEVER the case for Shaw's. They were busy and they served everyone like it was a regular day. No errors, no frantic, nothing. It was beautiful. It's one of our favorite restaurants because of how flawless everything is. We started off with our usual oysters and cocktails. The oysters were all East Coast, briny, salty, and delicious. It was the best batch I've had in a long time. We then followed up with a Caesar salad and lobster bisque soup. They are always hearty and delicious. Our mains consisted of Parmesan Crusted Haddock and the Petite Filets with Scallops. We ordered a side of Au Gratin Potatoes and a side of Mushrooms. Our food was perfectly timed, thanks to Raul, and it was delicious. We know we ordered a lot of food, we look forward to the leftovers. Everything is cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. We finalized dessert with coffee and PECAN PIE! Not sure how I've never done a review for Shaws as I've been coming here for over 20+ years. I've been coming here for so long that in fact, they used to have an all you can eat weekend brunch buffet, which was fantastic. This particular visit with current photos was during a random weeknight and when I tried to make a reservation about an hour to two hours prior to arriving, there were absolutely no tables available for any times on a random weeknight in the dining room. However, we walked in and we were seated on the bar side of the restaurant instead. Service was great and food as usual was great however, on this particular night we were seated next to a table of three gentlemen who were very loud clearly overserved and were discussing things such as narcotics and very explicit sexual acts Two tables around us at that had already been seated, got up and moved, and the person I was with at dinner, brought it to the attention of our server and said to our server I'm very disappointed you continue to serve the three men at the table next to us alcohol real realizing that they've already been overserved and we're definitely rowdy. We did get moved tables a little bit away and to our surprise, our waiter comped our two beers that evening. I was not looking for anything to be free, but rather wanted to have a nice pleasant dinner without having to hear about someone's narcotic use with a prostitute in someone else's Mercedes-Benz that's how bad the conversations were read more

Restaurant was great. I liked that the overall ambiance felt classy with the wood and jazz music. Lobster was soft and cooked perfectly. The server also checked in to see if our steak was cooked to our preference which I appreciated a lot. I really like this place! The only reason why I didn't rate it a 5 was because we went for my boyfriends birthday. Our server gave us ice cream with a candle but when the bill came, they charged us for the dessert we never asked for. We had Sunday dinner here as a default, the restaurant we wanted to try was closed for a private party. I had not been at Shaw's for years and it was pretty empty. The cocktails were great, they served a yummy classic dirty martinis. Our server, Eva, was very nice, helpful with recommendations, enthusiastic, and funny. We shared, between 3 people, a dozen oysters, seafood linguini, Crispy Fried Brussels sprouts, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and Signature Twin Filets + we ordered one more. The linguini was very good, cooked just right, flavorful rich sauce - roasted tomatoes, Calabrian chilis, garlic cream sauce. The filets were not cooked to our order, lacked flavor, and were served at room temperature. All side dishes were excellent, creamy buttery mashed potatoes with the perfect garlic balance and the sprouts were crispy. Came here for the first time recently with my husband and we had a positive dining experience! The food and service were both great and it wasn't very busy, despite it being the weekend before Valentine's Day. Upon walking in, the workers were dressed formally and we got seated right away because we had a reservation. Our waiter gave us some suggestions and we were given complimentary fresh warm dinner rolls. These were fluffy and soft, and honestly, if I didn't stop myself, I could have eaten multiple baskets of these myself. I noticed that for the other patrons that were in here, no one was dressed as nice as we were, so I don't think there is any type of dress code. I was wearing a skirt and dress shirt and my husband was wearing dress pants and a button down. However, we had many around us wearing jeans and even hats at their tables, so, interestingly, such an upscale-looking place doesn't have one. For dinner, I ordered the Grilled Ora King Salmon ($38). The salmon was delicious and had such good seasonings cooked onto it. The salmon did not come with any sides, but it did have a crimini and oyster mushroom cream sauce on top, as well as Madeira wine, and micro greens. It was also a good-sized portion in my opinion. My husband ordered the Club Room Combination ($40) plate which included a petite filet, garlic shrimp, and Hudson Canyon sea scallops. His steak was tender and had good flavor and the scallops were the highlight of his dish in his opinion. When it comes to portion sizes, he admits that it did seem small and he wanted more. As a shared side, we ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese ($18). We LOVED it so much and it had large chunks of the lobster mixed in, too. I would come here just for this and it was a great pairing to our meals. Ultimately, we would come back here. We live extremely close by, but even if we didn't, it would still be in our rotation of fancier sit-down restaurants. They have plenty of options on their menu, including sushi and poke bowls, and I would love to try those next time, as well. I think anyone can find something they would like on the menu. read more

Arrived on December 28 with my daughter and a friend late afternoon we were quickly seated in the bar area, which was fine. Service was very good, the waiter was very attentive and made suggestions on the menu. The chowder was excellent. The oysters were very pricey, but good. One of the featured entrées was Nantucket scallops . These were pretty expensive ($64) and would've been a disappointment at half the cost. These should've been sea scallops, but obviously Bay scallops and a small portionat that. Also, this was supposed to be served with Jasmine rice and there was none. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was fresh, the lobster bisque had great flavor, and the complimentary bread was delightful. We also decided to split a plate, which I think was the halibut special they had. We had a great dinner here before a theater show. The oysters were unbelievably fresh and the seafood pasta had a high level of depth in regards to flavors and the cooking of the seafood. The place has a great vibe and service was prompt and attentive. My Dad had the seafood salad, which he orders often and says it's excellent everytime. I haven't been in years but this place did a great job for a quick dinner and I can't wait to go back. I don't totally understand the crab claws which are $25 a pop but they must be done right if they feature them. Next time, I would love to try the whole crab, table side service. read more

My boyfriend and I were craving seafood, so we decided to try this place out. The food was pretty good, I don't partake in raw oysters but my boyfriend enjoyed the sampler and definitely had his favorites. The mussels were beautifully cooked and plump, and dipping the crispy bread in the sauce is the best part. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was nothing to write home about. Sushi isn't the first thing I think of when I think "crab house". But I absolutely loved the crab cakes, they were not full of filler, just pretty much all crab, which I believe is true of a Maryland style crab cake? Regardless, it was delightful and the French fries were a crispy, sturdy fry. The staff were very friendly, and were very accommodating. The interior was very fancy, upscale dining, although they don't enforce a dress code. I believe the email I received from open table said "business casual", which you would expect when you walk into the dining room, but numerous people were in casual street wear like the just came from woodfield mall across the street. Nevertheless, the dining room was nice, I just thought it was mildly creepy with no windows and a wall of mirrors. It almost had a 1920's vibe going on, especially with the music playing overhead.
