So I found this practice via my insurance website and chose it based on reviews I found on that website and on the internet. I was seen my Dr. Carlos Gutierrez and spent a good portion of the morning being seen by his staff and by him, in person. I'm new to Houston so I was establishing myself with a PCP and talking to him about health issues and current medications. He is such an attentive and caring doctor and spent time looking into what and why I have been prescribed and treated for particular conditions. Comprehensive physical was also completed. I left his office feeling like I am in good hands. I felt like he cared and didn't stick me with a nurse or physician's assistant to examine me. The staff at this office, from the reception area to the back office were so kind. The only encounter I had that made me feel some type of way was the phlebotomist who wasn't friendly but not rude either. Very sterile encounter and drawing blood is already an uncomfortable experience to begin with. I return in two weeks for follow up on lab results and I actually look forward to it. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother. I just want to say BEWARE of where you are getting your lab works done at. Although the 1960 Family Practice is an IN-Network clinic for my insurance, they send out all their lab work to their own private facility the "Providence Hospital", and that is an OUT-of-Network. My mother knows no english, and she doesn't know about this, so she has been going and doing lab work at that hospital. Last year it took their office over five weeks to get me a referral to a specialist, even though I called and spoke with two of Dr Hoang's medical assistants and left numerous messages telling them that I was in a tremendous amount of pain. I even had to do some of the leg work in getting that referral approved myself. I spent five weeks suffering and waiting for them to get around to giving me the care that I needed. And the problem that I had, resulted in a very painful surgery and long and painful recovery. I was intending on finding a new Dr at that time, but the recovery process was very long and took a lot out of me and I just didn't have the energy to spend a bunch of time on it, and was just completely focused on healing and getting my life back to normal. Looking back, I should've changed Drs then. On Monday 1/11 I called and left a message with Dr Hoang's medical assistants stating that I was having issues again with the same problem that previously required surgery and that I needed a referral to the Dr that did my surgery. Nobody responded. I called again on Wednesday 1/13 stating the same thing, and that I was very uncomfortable and that if I needed to come in for an appointment to get that referral, please call me back. Again, nobody responded. I then called all day on Friday 1/15 and Monday 1/18 and was never able to get through to speak to anybody. Finally, on Tuesday 1/19 I was able to speak with their office Manager and was basically just given excuses about the phones not working, and told that a referral would be put in stat. On Thursday 1/21 I went in for a nurses appointment that had already been scheduled in advance, and complained to the staff about still not having a referral. I wanted to speak to the office Manager, but she didn't seem interested in talking to me and instead sent another staff member to talk to me - who told me that my referral didn't go through because "they didn't have the right fax number." This time, It took them 10 business days to get me the referral that I needed. And I have been hearing the same excuse about the phones having issues, for months. They actually gave me that same excuse last year when this all happened the first time. But I left very detailed messages that were recorded on their answering machine. They are not just floating out there in space. So, obviously either nobody bothered to check those messages in a two week period, or they got the messages and then just arbitrarily decided to not take action. I have no idea how anybody runs a business - especially a Dr's office - when people can't even call in and get an answer. And when you do actually get an answer, if the person answering the phone decides they don't want to help, or what you need seems to be too much work, they will just disconnect because they dont want to deal with it. Then you have to go through it all again and sit on hold or maybe someone never answers your call. If they didn't have the right fax number, then why didn't someone use some common sense and either call that Dr's office, or call me, or even take a few minutes and do a quick Google search and find it?! Instead, they just decided that it wasn't worth their time and pushed it aside. And had I not already had an appointment that put me in their office in person, I may still be waiting for that referral right now as I write this review. Unbelievable. Finally, I was able to see the specialist on Tuesday (1/26). He told me had I gotten to see him sooner, I would be better off. There is now a 50/50 chance that I will need surgery again. The level of carelessness, incompetence and negligence on their part is both baffling and inexcusable. For the life of me, I can not begin to understand how people whose job is to provide care, can have a patient with an existing issue call in and leave very detailed messages about what Dr to make the referral to - and also state that they are in a tremendous amount of pain - and nobody act on getting that patient what they needed as quickly as possible. 1960 Family Practice is the absolute worst medical group in Houston. I am sure of that. If anybody on their staff even remotely cared about the patients they are supposed to be serving, I would've never had to suffer the way I have, and also not be in the position where I am now. My family and I will no longer be patients of 1960 Family Practice, as we are in the process of finding new providers. I have already filed a complaint with our insurance company, and I intend on filling one with the governing authority on healthcare in the state of Texas, once I find out who the appropriate entity is, and possibly even take legal action. I have never seen such disregard for the patients, incompetence, laziness and an overall lack of care and common sense. read more

I will never go back to this place. Ordered blood work for tests I'd had 2 months before at Kelsey Seybold. In addition, added expensive tests, procedures and immunizations I'd never been asked to have before. This was based on consultations; no exams and very little interaction with the physicians. I was told over the phone from someone at the gynecologist's office that I would need to undergo a D&C to determine whether or not I had cancer. That's right. She used the "c word" very casually and nonchalantly. I asked if I could talk to the doctor and she said "Oh, you'll see her the morning of the procedure." The clinic offered me a gift card to leave a positive yelp review. Sounds like bribery to me. What a racket! read more

Hands down, one of the greatest family care facilities in the group. I have been going to the 290 location for a little over a year and seen not only my primary care doctor, Dr. Gutierrez, but many others for a quick/emergency appointment if I'm very ill. They have consistently treated me with the most respect and allowed me to trust them with all of my medical needs down to even my well woman exam. I recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a primary care physician as all of the staff are absolutely phenomenal. read more

Beware their billing department... Doctors at this facility are big on running all the tests they can and they send labs and imaging to OON hospitals that they contract with. DO NOT go to this facility. read more

I should have known that the people who work here are stupid as can be, because the receptionist tried to schedule a 3pm appointment for me to do my annual check-up. Um, no, I cannot fast for that long.. there's not a single ounce of anorexia in me. Truth is, after my physical, I actually thought this place was legit. Now, I hate everything about this place. The nurses/staff are complete imbeciles. I started a new job and needed ONE damn sheet of paper to be filled out with my information from my physical and have Dr. Ahmad just sign off on it, but NO, it just could NOT be that simple. Instead, they made this 5 minute process drag out to be two whole days full of BS. I asked my sister to do this bidding for me and I feel terrible because she got caught in the mix of so many idiots. She went to drop the paper off at 8am yesterday, which is the time they open, and apparently none of the doctors were in so they made her wait for like 15 minutes before they even bothered to ask her what she needed. Wtf...? I remember calling ahead of time and they said that there is no need for an appointment and to come on in. After my sister explained why she was there, the staff decided to argue with my sister for 20 minutes how I never came in for a physical but a woman wellness. So when she called me, I told her point blank "I do my woman wellness with my gyno. I went to do a physical at 8:40am on June 27th with Dr. Ahmad." When she passed that message on, the morons there just glared at her and became incredibly flustered that they messed up again. Strike one. After they settled that debacle, the morons then finally told her that Dr. Ahmad can't sign the paperwork until the next day. When my sister asked why couldn't the nurses fill out the physical part and have Dr. Ahmad sign real quick, they retorted that "she has meetings and other appointments." And then my sister questioned, "and why can't she sign while walking to the next appointment?" That just allowed for a bunch of lame excuses straight from the mouths of each the morons there. Strike two. Eventually my sister left because she had to go to work, but she came back around lunch time to drop off the paperwork again at my request. She then called me and said the morons said it will be done the next day. Later that day, we both got a call saying it will be ready for pick-up in the AM. When my sister came back this morning to pick up the document, the stupid receptionist said "I have nothing for you. There's nobody here." Then one moron came out and asked if she was so-and-so, when my sister responded yes, that lady just got up and left. Um... rude. After waiting almost 10 minutes, that same moron finally decided to resurface again and say that no one can find it. Then she curtly told my sister to "Come back later." Strike f****** three. I don't think I have ever hated a doctor's office more than 1960 Family Practice. In fact, I have never hated a place so much that I would rate them at 1-star, but this hell hole crap office deserves it more than anything. They hire about the dumbest people possible, who have terrible attitudes and an absolute no regard to customer service. I agree 100% with Kimberley H. that the people here are a disgrace and only get paid to sit on their butts. I'd be damn if they actually find me my document and are able to hand it over when I drop by later. I have no doubts that I'm going to be disappointed so I'm preparing myself to stay as calm as possible when I have to hear a slew of dumb excuses as to why they can't get a simple job done. I will say this: if Dr. Ahmad left this practice and went elsewhere, I might actually go back to her. Do NOT ever go to the 1960 Family Practice on the NW Freeway to see Dr. Ahmad. They are the WORST doctor's office I have ever been to, and I'm sure many people who have already been there could say the same. Each appointment I've had requires me to wait at least two hours AFTER my appointment time before I even get to see the doctor's face. They're extremely disrespectful, and really could give two shits about accommodating any of their patients. Oh and their "student nurses" are not knowledgeable about what is and is not part of a lab, so I had to pay for extra fees for something I clearly told the receptionist and the student nurse herself I did not want. I asked her if this is part of a lab, and if it is I would not like it done. The student told me, "no it's not at all". When I got to the front to pay, I was expected to pay the extra fee. The receptionist told me I should have came up and asked her instead because the student nurses don't know what they are doing. If you've done any type of examinations on your body, and wanted to know if the assistant or the doctor herself has reviewed any of it... Do not expect a call back at all. They claim to NEVER receive any voicemails or phone calls even if you've called and left at least one day after day. They also falsely put things on your chart if they can't seem to figure out what is wrong with you or your condition. No need to thank me. I just saved you from wasting your time, anger, frustration, and money from people who give doctors and nurses a bad reputation. I always thought patients who were angry at doctors/nurses were crazy because all they want to do is help you, but these people who claim their title as doctors and nurses are a disgrace and are just paid to f****** sit around. read more

I went to the 2920 location. Not happy with the dr. The dr told me she was prescribing me an antibiotic but I had to ask her what for. She said she didn't know if what i had was viral or bacterial so just in case take it. I asked her if it was safe for breastfeeding and she said "should be". That was another uncertain response. When I picked it up the pharmacist said I should not be nursing and taking it and he didn't understand why I was giving that medication anyways given my symptoms. Now I'm still sick and miserable. Stay away from this place! They claim short wait times, aggressive treatments and friendly care..all of which are false. I went in for an ear infection and after 2 visits was told to go see a specialist. This may not sound horrible but while there I asked about other procedures like a physical and blood work. I was told the first visit that when I come back for a follow up that he would knock out 2 birds with one stone. Well, 2nd visit I was expecting the additional work and was asked if I had fasted (when I wasn't told anything on the 1st visit). Any way, the "doctor" left and never came back. He sent his nurse back in to tell me to reschedule. He didn't have the decency to tell me himself. I will NEVER go back to them and I suggest you dint either! read more
