I just purchased a used car here and had a fantastic experience. I was looking for a Honda Fit- they had 9- and I called ahead the day before and they had the two cars I was most interested in right in the front. The staff were really nice and let me look at them and test drive them with tons of time. Once I decided, I talked to Junior about pricing. They are very upfront about the costs, and post on the wall the additional dealer fee. There are no add on costs, no surprise "transaction" fees, no upsells for stupid things like nitrogen in your tires. They also don't negotiate on prices. That can be good or bad, just know in advance! Once we agreed on the price, Junior arranged the paperwork. In ten minutes he had everything set up. He made a folder with the forms I needed to bring to the DMV and specifically stated what each form was for. We were done pretty quickly! 1st Choice Auto Sales was a great place to buy a used car. Really bad car buying experience. Other reviews praise the "no pressure" style of the sales people here and that is certainly true. There's no pressure. They barely recall that you exist. Meanwhile, other dealers where I showed interest were courting my business relentlessly. 1st Choice is a 90 minute drive (3 hour r/t) from me but I was willing to travel. I test drove their inventory of manuals: a Fiat, Yaris and CruzeEco. The six-speed CruzeEco was perfect except for a whistling under the hood and TPMS warning light. On August 5, assurances were made that these issues would be fixed in a day or two. Not wanting to lose the car, I placed a holding deposit on it. Even once I put down $500, it took literally weeks and many false promises of being done "this evening or the next day" before this car was roadworthy on August 20th. I asked if we would get a break on the $8,800 price because of the long wait, and sales person Junior replied, "Sorry, no." As relieved as I was to finally take the car into my possession, I was disappointed in the entire situation and the terrible customer service up to and including the day I bought it. When we came to pick it up, the car had 1/8 of a tank of gas, not even enough to make it home. I asked about this and Eddie took it to fuel up. The Eco (manual) holds about 11 gallons; here was a chance to demonstrate some gesture of good will. Hilariously he brought it back w 1/2 a tank. Couldn't even bring himself to send me off on full. Just TWO WEEKS after purchase, the check engine light popped on. My mechanic discovered oil splattered all over the engine, the compartment that holds the oil was nearly empty and the valve cap was busted. I reached out to 1st Choice, manager Eddie was of course useless. He said none of this was covered under the warranty, but suggested I bring the car to him anyway, for out-of-pocket repair, knowing it was a 90 minute trip and the car was in no condition to drive. He refused to take responsibility for selling me a damaged vehicle, implying too much time had passed. Again, I bought the car August 20. This was September 4. Not wanting to waste any more time / energy / money with 1st Choice Auto, I paid my mechanic $400 for the work. Looking back I see as soon as I settled on this car and was no longer actively shopping around, it put me in a terrible position. I needed a new commuter right away and SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ELSEWHERE, but the non refundable $500 deposit and the continual promises kept me locked in, so for weeks I was scrambling to get myself and my kids around without a commuter, both before purchasing and then again when the Cruze was in the shop two weeks later. I do love this pretty little car (see pics). It is so fun to drive and gets great mpgs - hence the "ECO." But was it worth all the long wait, all the hassle and extra expense??? I guess I'm struggling to understand why it was put for sale if it wasn't ready to be sold and why it never felt like any kind of priority for them to sell this car to me. In retrospect, I realize I appreciate being treated as a valuable customer by other dealerships interested in earning my business. With 1st Choice Auto, it's kind of the reverse. I was there eaier today to look at a car that was $2500 over what NADA said the car was valued at. The car had body repair at rear via overspray on the exhaust, the starter was making a horrible sound starting the car. Various other paint problems yet they wanted top dollar. When I went inside to talk to them about negotiating a price, I was told it was a fixed price. I would recommend avoiding this place as you may not get what you are expecting. read more

They let me put it up on ramps so I could look under the car for oil or fluid leaks. I found that there was an oil leak from the timing chain tensioner which is common on Toyota Corolla's. They told me they would get it fixed and contact me when it was done and ready for pickup. OMG no! I must say that Lesile and Howard were very helpful, but the vehicles are not up to par. I took the 2010 Blk Camero to my mechanic and just from a walk around they found what's in the photo. The 1st thing they noticed was the sticker on the door panel was hand written and the vehicle had HT truck tires on the rear which (they informed me) threw off the alignment. View the photo that I posted, it's interesting. Also, make sure that you always let a mechanic check out a vehicle before you spend your hard earned money. The repairs on this vehicle would have been over 3700 dollars and that was from them walking around the car. 1st Choice wants 10,500 for this lemon. Very disappointing! Beware! read more

The only person who was able to help us with what we were looking for, and willing to make reasonable negotiations was a young man named "Ya-ya." The car was great, the battery was not. and considering we needed to get it inspected in a different state should have also been a deal breaker to bring down the price. The older man with glasses told us, who I'm assuming was the owner: "If it doesn't pass MD inspection, bring it back and we'll fix it guarantee so it passes" But shouldn't your cars already be inspection ready..? The battery was already weak. Ya ya said be would replace it for free. Thank you. 2012 Honda Civic with 63k miles an after market radio that even drains the battery more than the engine itself.. that's probably why they sold the car. Won't be coming back here. That man was getting too smart and too rude and I saw that man talking about us as soon as we left just because we wanted a few hundred off a $8,900 car that was $10,500 out the door. Ridiculous. definitely your typical used car sales lot would screw you over to make a quick buck. basically if anyone from Virginia bought the car that i bought (was already virginia inspected), theyd time to find out their brakes immediately need changing. thankfully i am from maryland, and i had to get my car inspected prior to registering it, which showed the issue w the brakes (2/30 to be exact). now maybe it's because their own shop couldn't get the front wheels off (so incredibly rusted on a real shop had a struggle getting them off), and maybe that's why they didn't do the brakes. also the dip stick for trans and engine oil look like they may have been replaced prior to the car being listed for sale. for a 06 corolla w 86k miles that was $8.5k (9.5 including fees), and barely passing front brakes where as i went to a literal trailerhome dealer in rockville maryland and got a 03 corolla 170k miles, $4k with more up to date brakes. really embarrassing if you ask me, especially since this car was more than likely going to be sold to a virginia resident, who wouldn't have gotten it reinspected, therefor brakes could have gone out on them without them knowing that was a replacement needed very soon after purchase. not to mention the carfax report showed before this dealer bought the car, it was maryland owned, meaning they had to get it virginia inspected prior to selling it, and they were fully and didn't disclose. don't shop here unless you have your own solid mechanic. yes it's a gamble when buying used cars, but this stuff was purposely hidden to make a quick buck. While driving out Fairfax Blvd I noted a red Mustang rag top sitting on this lot that I'd never noticed before. I've been looking all over and nothing had 'lit my fire'. I turned around and parked next door. Looked the car over and it was a beauty. 2008 V6. Low mileage. I contacted them and made a date to look at the car. WOW. Nice ride. Good price and Yahya was an amazingly informed young salesman about this car! He is only 20 but wise beyond his years. Yahya took me to Steve, the Manager who really worked with me. I was able to make a down payment and Steve held the car for me for several days, as I was traveling. Steve has been Mgr since the place opened 11 years ago! He is pleasant, efficient, and has excellent Customer Service skills. After about 10 days, I saw a coolant leak and Steve said to bring it in. I did, Yahya and Abdul (Mechanic) crawled all over the car but couldn't find the leak. After about 2 days it reappeared. They set up most payments on biweekly schedule and when payment is due on Friday they repo on Friday night at 11pm. Yes the same day the payment is due. All the while telling the customer it's ok to come the next day or when ever they are planning on coming in to pay. Several weeks ago my 2004 Honda CRV was rear-ended and deemed "totaled' by the insurance company. I decided to buy another 2004 Honda CRV rather than a new car as I prefer its design. I found one at a dealer in Fairfax and, although the car was fine (albeit too expensive), I positively hated the experience. I felt as if I'd entered a shark tank when I entered the parking lot and was approached by multiple sales people. (They were doing their job, but I hated the atmosphere and pressure and left). I came here to look at an acura tsx I was highly interested in buying for my girlfriend. I pulled into the parking lot and stood outside for about 15 mins. One gentleman finally asked if I needed help and I told him which vehicle I was Interested in. He had an employee pull out the car from storage but then they just left me standing there. I visually inspected the body, it got into worse shape since the photos were posted via ads. I checked the mechanicals, poor timing belt and signs of major past leaking in the oil and possibly the coolant. My inspection took me about 20 minutes and during that time they never approached me again, asked if I'd like to test drive or anything. I came back a few days later with a coworker who was interested in another vehicle which he was supposed to purchase 3 weeks prior but couldn't due to the security system malfunctioning and I'm glad it did. The automatic manual transmission wouldn't change gears, the radio didn't work and it lacked power, usually signs of a bad motor. I convinced him not to go back, which he didn't. I recommend you stay away from this lot and go to more reputable dealers. read more

Just purchased a nice, low miles 2004 Ford Explorer from First Choice. I did not do my own homework and purchased without a vehicle inspection. There were some to be expected maintenance items (considering age of the car) that were revealed in an inspection after I purchased. I immediately called and must say I was impressed at their willingness to remedy the issues. I am currently waiting on the repairs and intend to take it back to my regular mechanic for one additional service after I get the car back. Had a good car buying experience with Steve, Danny and Payam. I'll detail the things I like about this dealership, and other observations. 1) They pick cars well. While the car I bought was not the lowest price around for the model, it was in the best condition. No smells, rust or leaks. 2) The test drive policy is better than many. Basically, they take your license and let you take the car to drive and/or show a mechanic. Other dealerships are difficult in this respect, while 1st choice is old-school. The sales team I worked with, Steve and Danny, are very open to customers gaining confidence in the cars by driving them and otherwise evaluating them. On the lot, Payam does an excellent job of bringing the cars in and out, giving rides home after purchase, etc. 3) They are a cash business, and do not accept checks. I'm going to give them 3+ stars but not quite 4. I went to look at a Corolla and ended up driving a Camry. The Corolla had some apparent exhaust issues that were obvious at highway speed and just not normal for a Toyota. So we passed on that. Ram was SUPER nice and SUPER accommodating on a Sunday and for that I'd go back but we just couldn't reach a deal on a car. His manager (owner?) just wouldn't budge on the car we wanted even though we were prepared to pay and go. IMPORTANT: Bear in mind the price you see on the web is actually $400 higher because of their doc fee which is really nothing more than signing a title because they're a cash business. No financing here. So their fee on a $5k car ends up being 8% which seems a bit high. So pricing is a little misleading but then par for the course at a car dealer. I'm just not sure what the fee is for when they give you the option of going to the DMV yourself. That's some expensive detailing while missing fundamental mechanical issues (exhaust.) They do a good job of detailing the cars. They're clean and as good as they can be for their age/condition. Waiving the made up fee and making the sale would have warranted four stars. Because the price was just "fair", I'm still looking for that car -- and there are plenty of them out there. UPDATE: After looking at a few other cars I countered with a slightly higher offer (still above their listing price) and they accepted. Ram was great to work with and the car I got seems to be pretty nice. I feel like it was a fair deal. I'll give them 4 stars. read more
