Had my appointment confirmed by staff over the phone the day before, however, when we arrived they said I didn't have an appointment because I didn't confirm my appointment by phone. I explained that I DID confirm with the time and date but another staff member gave my pet's spot away and double booked the vet! Extremely frustrating. I explained that my pet needed to be seen due she had a large open wound that might be melanoma or cancer and the front office was unsympathetic to the situation; very unprofessional in healthcare. Pet Owners be aware of this office double-booking even if you confirm, get the name of the person confirming your appointment. Poor customer service and little caring for you and your pet! We brought our 4 month old Great Dane in because he was showing signs of having parvo. He was taken back and I was told they were giving him an IV. After 3 hours go by I called to check on him and they said he hasn't had an IV or been given any fluids and that the doctor wouldn't be able to see him for a few more hours.... So I drove back to the clinic and told them I want to take him home since they weren't caring for my dying dog! When a vet tech came to talk to me she openly admitted that they were not able to give him proper care for parvo because of how busy they were and expressed how grateful they were that I chose to come and take my puppy back home and how he would be better taken care of back home... I've never heard of any vet or dr for that matter openly admit to neglecting a patient. He was also covered in feces when they brought him out to us. I'm glad we caught his parvo early and he didn't die in a kennel, covered in feces, because of their lack of workers or common sense. Never. Ever. Bring your loved one to this clinic. read more

They were kind, gave us the time we needed to say goodbye and made a heartbreaking experience the best it could be. In Mesa with my mom, both from out of state, to take care of my son & daughter in law's dogs. During our stay, my mom ended up in the hospital & had emergency surgery. Then...my lil princess chihuahua started acting "off". They were able to get me in and most important to me, they let me stay with my baby the entire time (other than x-rays & labs, which is to be expected). My chi is a rescue who has no teeth and I don't know how old she is, but she has been with me 24/7 for the past 5 years. To be able to be with her in the clinic meant the WORLD to me. We were able to get right over, and while they initially told us it would be about six hours before they saw her, they suspected they might know what the issue was. I brought my kitty, Darwin, in for an emergency visit on Sunday, and was very pleased with the experience we had at 1st Pet! I'm a veterinary technician, and work at a veterinary clinic so I am always a bit hesitant to go elsewhere, as you never know how things might go. 1st Pet was wonderful from start to finish, and I would highly recommend them for emergency care. From offering snacks and refreshments during the wait to be seen to the knowledge and kindness from Dr. Begay and the staff - I couldn't not give a five star rating! Dr. Begay was wonderful, and made me feel like I wasn't overreacting to my kitty's situation! She listened to my concerns, and offered a very reasonable plan for his care. I was very happy to find out that they are a Feline Friendly and Fear Free certified practice, and I felt that they cared wonderfully for my nervous Darwin during his visit. True caring and compassion when we needed it most. Our cat became violently ill around 8pm. We were greeted and evaluated immediately upon entering the building. Once they saw how ill she was we were taken back immediately. We were provided with the options quickly. Everyone made good eye contact and showed genuine concern. The absolute worst experience i've had with a vet. Took my dog in for vomiting and diarrhea and was seen right away, they took her back said her vitals were normal but still wanted to admit her. 250 dollars later I talk to the quack of a doctor and she has no idea what shes talking about. She gives my dog IV fluids and some medicine but failed to see the huge rash that's spreading from her ears onto her face. Not once did they call me with an update, I had to call twice and not once did I see the vet in person. Racked me up 422 dollars for absolutely nothing, they didn't diagnose her at all, NOTHING! I called and complained and they simply said "Oh sorry the doctor forgot to tell you." Never ever trust them with your loved one. They are a money pit. read more

These place is horrible! My 16 year dog had to be put down and the first time they euthanized her it didn't take because they had put in the needle wrong so I had to go through it a 2nd time. They also gave me the wrong urn and now want me to pay more due to their employees error for the correct one. They didn't even document her chart correctly. Whitney the Office Manager treated me with so much disdain and rudeness I just finally ended the call. Tell everyone you know to never, ever use these Vet Offices! They don't care about you or your experience with them to make things right. Unfortunately, I've had to take my dog here 2 times in the past weeks. Both experiences were amazing and I couldn't have asked for more caring staff! The office is also very clean and calming. I like how they bring you as quickly to your own room if possible to help with minimizing fear and anxiety that can come with other unknown pets in distress coming in. We thankfully came in when it wasn't anyone else waiting In the main lobby. They even give you a basket of goodies due to how you may be waiting a bit since it's an emergency clinic. While able to get my dog seen (which took almost 3 hours to do-Yet, they are basically an ER for pets) their diagnosis & treatment was completely off...She did not have allergies(no other respiratory issues anyway), she had an infection in her eyes. Was given recommendation of Benadryl which lead to no improvement. Disappointing & frustrating I could have started an eye treatment earlier for her, plus we were charged roughly $200 for all of this. Eyes can be tricky, yet the discharge color and other symptoms vary... Scary to think they glossed over/didn't recognize an eye infection and misdiagnosed it for allergies, isn't it!? read more

Late on a Sunday night, I believe my small Chihuahua was bitten by a spider. He became very wobbly and shaky. Being new to the area, I rushed him to the nearest animal ER. The staff and Dr were extremely thourgh, attentive and couteous. Dx was effective, treatment was excellent and listening to my concerns was very attentive. Most places will give you their recommendation and a 2ndary option to help you and decide what is overall best for the family. They don't care to help you just pushing you to pay the highest price. This place saved my dogs life! Came in at 8 pm got in by 8:05 my dog was bleeding out lost so much blood! They came out we threw him on the gurney he was seen within minutes even though when we pulled up their was others ahead of us...it didn't matter!!!they saw that we were in a panic and they did something about it!!they took action!! From here on out this is the only place I will go in an emergency! The lady Kayla helped and consoled my wife when it seemed I couldn't because I was a wreck myself. Great staff! Ryan was the one that worked on my dog sewed him up so nice. They just took real good care of my dog and went above and beyond. I've read a lot of bad reviews so I wanted to post a positive one. Our English Bulldog had a major skin infection that appeared almost instantly. We were worried that he was bit by something. I found 1st Pet and am so thankful that we did. We arrived at 11pm last and were advised it was going to be a 4 to 6 hour wait. They took him back and I received a call at 5am from a very nice doctor who told me his treatment plan. Overall for the ER Visit treatment and medications they were reasonable priced. We walked away only paying $400 for everything. I completely understand how frustrating the wait time may seem but people need to remember that this is also an emergency room. Critical animals come in at all times so it's understandable. We are switching here as his primary care vet. Highly recommended read more

Took my dog in last night after he had a scuffle with another dog. Jazz's upper lip had 2 puncture holes from the fight, one was right through into his mouth. This was about 2 AM during the weekday. They took us into a spacious, very comfortable suite right away. We were given a basket full of snacks and drinks while we waited for the vet. I figured it would be pricey since it was emergency service and the place is nicer than my doctors office. After Jazz was examined, they presented an estimate for sedation, sutures and meds. Jazz def needed stitches so I went ahead and agreed. After a about 2.5 hours, I was pleasantly surprised to see the bill was almost $200 less than the estimate that I fully expected to pay. Rarely do you see a service charge LESS than what they estimate. The final cost was very reasonable for all they did, plus the nice accommodations while we waited. Great to know this place is here when you really need them. I highly recommend. read more

This "vet" takes advantage of your emotions when you are in desperate need.They are WAY under qualified and WAY over priced. My baby had to have stitches from a small wound, should have only been 3 stitches and everything good as new . Welp not the story, they cut him open even more to"probe" around(I did not consent to that) and instead of 3 stitches he ended up with 9. The stitch job was TERRIBLE, they would not take blame and own up to the hack job they did on my poor baby. I will be filing more than a yelp review for this terrible excuse for a vet. We had never been to 1st Pet before. Our 13-year old Doberman Aladdin had also never been ill but he had a growing mass that unfortunately all of a sudden one late night/early morning got the best of him. We were out of town and our mother/grandma and neighbor had to bring Aladdin in very early on morning of October 13, 2018. They took very good care of him and took the time to allow our daughter to say goodbye to our favorite dog via FaceTime - with the tech's personal cell phone! He was given treats and treated with such kindness in his last few moments on this Earth. While we still feel very badly we couldn't be there, thank the heavens for wonderful and compassionate people like Carie, Alicia, Vanessa and Desiree who made an awful time a little more bearable. We went in for an emergency because my big dog bit our new puppy. The only reason we went here was it was after hours and no one else was open. After waiting 2.5 hours to be seen our little guy had to get stitches. After paying $900+ for his surgery and waiting 6 hours, we finally got him home. The first 4 days were ok, until my wife noticed some of his stitches came out. She too him to normal vest and the said that never should have happened. I call 1st Pet and I was told to bring him in and that it would be $110 to see him WTF!!! I just gave you guys close to $1000. That's BS! They aren't not about the animals here, it's about your money. I will do my best to never have to go back here or recommend them to anyone. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Unfortunately, I don't have many great things to say about this animal hospital. The front desk staff were initially accommodating and rushed my cat to the back to be seen as it was an emergency situation. I was ushered into a very lovely examination room, talked with an incredible vet tech about what happened, and that's where the good experience ended. Almost 3 hours after talking to the vet tech, I had yet to see the veterinarian or know what was going on with my cat. After talking to the receptionist at the front about the wait and lack of communication, she came back into the examination room and relaid a message from the vet. I was told by the receptionist the reason the vet hadn't come into the room to talk with me was that she wanted to have a game plan before speaking with me. That left me confused and irritated as communicating with the pet owner about how to proceed is generally a good bedside practice. I do realize when in an emergency, the vet may not have time to talk, but from what I gathered later, my cat had stabilized for the moment. Once the vet finally made it into the room, I was told prognosis wasn't great and then handed an astronomical estimate for care, despite the risks and complications involved, which weren't fully discussed. I was only given the option to proceed with the vet's initial treatment plan. No information was gathered about myself or my financial situation. No plan B was given until I pushed for it, and once I determined plan B wouldn't work either, I had to come up with plan C. Due to the astoundingly high estimate and the quality of life my cat would lack, I decided to euthanize. Would you think things couldn't get any worse from there? Wrong. A different receptionist came in to give me the cost for euthanization, which was price gouging at it's best! For euthanization and cremation, the price was a staggering $250! That wasn't with any returned remains or special treatment. I've NEVER paid so much money to have a pet euthanized. On top of that, this receptionist was not clear on her facts about my cat's current treatment plan and tried to tell me a costly procedure had already been done, when it had not even been started! The one star was for the lovely vet tech who was extremely sympathetic in a time of great sorrow. If this review was just based on her, I would leave five stars. I'm not one to leave reviews from bad experiences, but this was horrifying. I will NEVER return to this clinic and would recommend others avoid it as well. My heart is absolutely broken, and this clinic just made the experience more traumatic. read more

I brought my 14 yr old ShihTzu in last Saturday night. I was very nervous, having never been to an Emergency animal hospital before. First of all, when I called and spoke with Patrick, he was very calming, explaining everything to me. The front office staff and tech were great. Dr. Butler, was amazing, (maybe the best, we've ever seen)! She explained everything that she was doing and was so gentle with my Ripken. The office and exam rooms were clean, cleaner than most (human) doctor's offices and Emergency rooms. I'm happy to say that almost a week later, my dog is doing so much better. Thank you to Dr. Butler and staff, for making this scary experience such a positive one and most importantly for treating my dog with such loving concern. read more

On August 6th we took in a dog we had just rescued to 1st pet, and Dr. Staci Hineman was the vet looking at the pup, she diagnosed her completely wrong, wanted to rush her into surgery for something she did not need, she was not friendly, it was like a guessing game to her. We left and took our rescue pup to another pet emergency, and they actually diagnosed her correctly, I like 1st pet have used them several times, but never has any of the dogs seen Dr. Hineman, I will never take my dog there again if she is working, I do not trust that vet, what so ever! I just can't believe she wanted to rush a dog into surgery without knowing what the correct issue was. If that vet is working and you take your dog there I would just be careful. read more
