Rather than concern themselves with your pet's health or life/death situation, they are more concerned with the almighty dollar! I had the most horrible experience with this place following my lab's seizures and subsequent euthanasia. There were a couple of lab tech that were genuine animal lovers, but I can't say the same for the Veterinarians or front desk staff. I had to get over my sadness before I wrote this review. I would give them 0 stars if I could. I was appalled at the lack of empathy from Nicolette Meredith, who no long works there, go figure. My cat had 107 degree fever and was lethargic. Arrived at 6:00 AM and did not see a vet till after 8 AM. Nicolette took over two (2) hours to come into the exam room while she was "rounding". Once she actually looked at my cat it was here is the amount and sign here. This was going to be thousands of dollars for her care. I was shocked at the cost and did not need to have someone say "if you cannot afford it", which was not the issue. My cat died of renal failure shortly there after. I sent an online message on their website with no answer of even a phone call. This is a place you bring you pet to die from lack of care. If you can afford it! Will never go back. read more

My husband and I took our cat (Batman) to 1st Pet on Christmas Day because he was lethargic and disoriented. The place was very nice and clean. Everyone was so nice especially the vet tech who saw Batman, Joey. He was so kind, knowledgeable and patient with my tiny bundle of terror who was trying to kick and bite him (after he slowly went back to his normal self). You can just tell that he loved his job. He gave us so many useful information and told us our options without trying to sell us anything that our cat won't need which we really appreciated. We were expecting to pay a lot but ended up not costing us anything since Batman was back to normal (probably from the adrenaline from crying the whole car ride) and didn't need to see the vet. We were so grateful and relieved. Thanks again Joey and 1st Pet staff. We'll be back again for future pet check ups and visits. read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY. I made an appointment for my dog who was DOWN. And needed physical therapy to help build muscle mass. I explained my situation with my dog not being able to WALK and they couldn't get me in for THREE WEEKS. So I try to understand and wait the three weeks and do what I can at home. His appointment was on Tuesday and they call me 4 days before his appointment and tell me that now I need to wait THREE MORE WEEKS. I can't do that, he's over 100 pounds and doing the at home physical therapy isn't working anymore and he needs professional help. Go somewhere that cares. Skip this place. read more

This place is a DEATH sentence for your animal. The WORST place to go. Usually don't write a bad review, but I want to try and prevent others from dealing with the loss and financial suffering that happens from going to this place. Our pooch was admitted for something that could of been determined by a simple blood test and ultrasound. Instead, we were told no one was available to do and ultrasound and they cut our pooch open and found cancer. Every vet that we have discussed this is stunned by this companies practices. Everyone has noted that we were taken advantage of like a used car salesman. When we tried to dispute these charges through our credit card company the employees provided FALSE accusations and our dispute was denied. Bottom line they ripped us off, our dog was ripped open and as a result he died. When I called to personally speak to the manager David, he had absolutely NO BEDSIDE MANNER not apologizing once for us losing our dog. We would have received better, faster care if we drove to Tucson and back. Will drive anywhere else to avoid ever using this place again. Dog injured with a bleeding wound, brought her in for what should be a simple clean and stitch. Called ahead and arrived around 4pm. Dog was not released until after 1230 AM - that's right, it took over 8 hours. We were not initially seen by a 'vet' for the first 3 hours -while my pet was actively bleeding. No concerns at all about that. No water either, had to fill a dixie cup from the bathroom for a thirsty bleeding dog waiting 7 hours for the actual care to begin. Told they were too busy but each time I stepped out of the room there was nobody waiting and rooms were open. When we finally left at almost 1 AM, ours was the ONLY car in the lot and the place was empty. Meanwhile, the only time we see anyone is when they are giving repeated shots for pain, to the tune of 7 shots (and charged for) which should have rendered the dog unconscious. It did not. At the very end, they 'had to' anesthetize my dog for simple staples. After supposedly enough shots to put her under, really? It calls to question whether there were shots given or just a bill. Or, someone internally had tampered with the bottle and it was water. Would not be surprised. Very unhappy with the whole experience. Other emergency places in town are run competently and lawfully, and are the opposite experience of this place. read more

So, I took my cat here this afternoon around 1ish. I was told there was a 5 hour wait before I got there, which turned into 6 once there. I was told to drop him off and the doc would call after he was examined. I called numerous times over the rest of the day just to at least find out how long to expect. I was repeatedly told that there were 3 pets before me. Even after 2 and and the half hours, and 2 pets still ahead of me after more than 3 hours. I did not hear from the doctor till after 10pm tonight!!! I asked if it was going to be much later, would it be a problem with picking him up in the morning since they told me it would be an hour or two before they got the results, and that would make it after midnite before they would get back to me. I seriously cannot believe that they would charge me for overnight boarding since it is not my fault they haven't gotten to him in all these hours!! They said it was up to the discretion of the doctor but I then told them that I had just talked to the doctor about this and was told yes, there is a charge for boarding overnight!!! wtf?? So, here I am sitting like I have been the entire day and night waiting for these people to tell me what is wrong with my cat if anything and now I am expected to pay a boarding fee because they have not been able to get to my pet before now. I told them that I just went thru chemo for cancer and I've been waiting all day to take my medicine because I cannot drive after taking it, and I still cannot take it because if I fall asleep and they call me after midnight, I won't hear it. This is fucked up. They do not care. I felt absolutely no compassion whatsoever. It's now 10:41pm and I will be back to update this after its all said and done. I have knots in my stomach. I've been to this clinic several time and I apologize for not leaving a review after those positive experiences. We were here this past Tuesday - which I am told has become one of the busiest nights of the week and has been for several months - and yet, they don't staff for it? Leaving one doctor to manage all of the emergencies already there and the ones coming in. They gave my dog a shot of, basically morphine, and left the room, not to be seen for two hours. But the tech spent an hour in the room next to us, laughing and giggling with the people in there who eventually walked out with their dog to go to another clinic. The whole time, we sat there holding our dog with the deep laceration to his chest, bleeding through the towel. No explanation as to the reason for the wait. I work in healthcare and when you give a human a shot like that, you check on them, but you give it to a dog and forget about us? When the doc came in, she was amazing, very personable, kind and empathetic. All it would have taken was someone coming in every so often to tell us that we had not been forgotten about and that the doctor was addressing some emergencies in the back. It felt very much like we were forgotten about and no one cared that our dog was (it seemed like) bleeding out. When I am paying $1200+ for a visit to the vet, I expect a slightly higher level of service. So, doc was amazing both with us and our dog - office staff definitely need some training in customer service when there is a delay in getting service. read more

If there was an option for a negative (-5) that's what I would give them. I brought my young small dog in after a dog attack, they wanted $6500 to call in the "board certified surgeon" or suggested I euthanize. I asked them if they should do imaging first, or if I could speak with the "Board Certified Surgeon" first before deciding as was told they don't do that. It's either I agree to surgery or euthanize. I just couldn't stand to euthanize a dog that was alert and sitting upright, yes he was in bad shape but not to the euthanize stage!!!! Unbelievable!!! I transferred my care and they charged me $300 before I left for a pain med shot and a chest wrap!! My dog is still alive and on the mend and his surgery did not cost $6500. This place is awesome! We noticed a lump on our two year old Rottweiler (raven) & we took her here. The staff is incredible. They made sure she was comfortable & happy even though she was a little scared. The staff also explained payment options which was super helpful because let's be real, nobody is prepared for a vet bill. They left me with my mask sitting in the car while other pet owners with no mask came and went inside the building. They let me in my car for an hour with no information about what was happening to my tiny puppy whether she was out of her tiny container or had food or water. It was hot and I had the air conditioning in the car running nobody told me what was going on. Finally I had to call and ask if I should go home and how long was it going to be and how many people were in front of us. Then I had to call two hours later while I was still waiting to find out if anyone had given my puppy any food or water or how much longer we were still going to wait and how many people were still in front of us. My little Maltipoo, Tuesday Ann, had serious heart disease at 13 years, 10 months and 1 day old. She was diagnosed in 10-2018. Last night she began suffering greatly and could not breathe...I had no cash to have her put down today but I called 1st Pet Vet in Mesa, AZ, and they took her in and put her to sleep at no cost to me. She was still responsive to my voice when I was holding her and talking to her. Her little tail was just a waggin'! I held her as she went to sleep. I offered to pay the Vet with my jewelry--the only thing I have of value-- but they said it was not necessary. I am going to have her cremated when I get cash. This Vet is #1 in my book and in my heart forever! They really care about pets in need. They were compassionate and loving to my Little Girl. May the Great Spirit Bless them for all they do for our treasured companions. read more

I don't even know where to begin, I am so blown away with the professionalism and compassion that the staff showed towards my family. My dog was very sick and luckily we found this pet hospital open on Thanksgiving morning. The facility is very clean and has a very peaceful environment. Every staff member that helped us during my dog's stay was professional, knowledgeable, and very caring. My Dog was an older rescued pet and she finally passed on, after going into heart failure. First Pet was able to stabilizer, and I had her for another 2 weeks, for which I was really grateful. When she passed on, I took her there and behind my grief, I was taken by the old fashioned customer service. They immediately brought me into a private room, and put on this soothing music, which was so helpful. Our dog has idiopathic head tremors. However, 1st Pet diagnosed the issue as seizures and medicated our dog which appeared to cause actual seizures. After two emergency visits/exams, hospitalization, and over $2K later I got a second opinion. Best decision I ever made. A neurological vet informed us that head tremors are very common in this dog breed and had us wean the dog off of the seizure meds immediately. Our family pet is doing much better now and back to normal. 1st Pets' misdiagnose was really hard on our family emotionally and financially. I discovered all vets in AZ have 24/7 access to these neurological vets. A phone call to a specialist would have saved time, emotional hardship, and financial struggles. If you suspect a neurological issue, you should contact a specialist. However, for day-to-day emergencies 1st Pet is a good resource. The staff and doctors were friendly and followed-up on our pet's progress. read more

My wife and I just took our dog Eleanor in this morning after a very lone night thinking that our puppy my leave us. We were reluctant to come in thinking we may not come home with our baby. All I can say is that we are home now with a positive outlook and a high degree of confidence that our Eleanor has a fighting chance. I went in yesterday with our old dog who was fully incontinent, had neural issues, and due to an abusive history (She was a rescue) had become increasingly aggressive for a few months. After a fight she started with another of our dogs, she would not stop with the tunnel vision. Her trauma, mixed with her health issues, caused her to go insane. She was no longer our dog. My wife and I decided it was time, this poor girl needed to be pyut to rest. We felt comfortable that we gave her many good years, but it was time. We took her in (And she was registered at this vet office, they had her medical on record. The staff who greeted us was great. The tech who took her back to get the catheter was someone she's seen before, and it was fantastic. After a few minutes one of the staff came back and let us know the vets didn't want to euthanize her. They didn't feel comfortable for 'aggression.' That was not the primary reason for our choice, that was a final push. The dog was miserable, and her condition has been constantly getting worse for while now. The vets didn't even come see her, or consult with me. Just looked at some paper and decided it was a no. Very emphatic. So after an uncomfortable wait where I was told the tech and staff were apologetic because they knew it was the right choice, they took Freya back to get the catheter moved and we left. Later that evening freya had a major altercation, and after using objects to pry her mouth off our other dog, I suffered bites to both arms/hands and my wife and son are a bit more traumatized. Freya is now put to rest, rather peacefully, and we are grateful to the Vet that came to our house to make it an even more comforting experience for all. I will no longer be bringing any animal to this facility. Thank you to the vets who in a time of need, ended up putting my family through worse because they didn't want to even expend the effort to discuss options with me or take a look at my poor animal. Thank you to the staff and techs, but the doctors can all ^(*^& themselves. read more

We took our 8 week old puppy in last night. She seemed to be in a lot of pain. Waited over 2 and a half hours in a exam room listening to her yelping and whining. No one came to let us know what was happening we had to go out twice to ask what was happening. Workers didn't really seem to care and with 3 of them sitting there, one of them could of let us know what was going on or just to pop in and see how we were doing. The vet looked down her throat and couldn't see anything, gave her a pain shot and sent her home with more pain meds. 213 dollars later, we still don't know anything. If you have a pocketful of money and don't mind paying a lot of it...this is the place. I was given an estimate at the high range of $950.00 for surgery to stop bleeding,they had the equipment to cauterize the wound. They tried but could not stop the bleeding. After being told it looked like cancer, the first thing they spoke of, besides a overnight stay for observation, was amputation of my dogs front left paw. He is a 84 pound lab mix and 12 years old. That would not be a option at his age for us. So I allowed the overnight stay and after 2 calls to them after surgery and another one in the morning, we decided to pick him up and have him with us for as long as we could. The bill jumped from the high of $950.00 to $1950.00! They broke down and gave us a discount of $200.00 since we are seniors also. Funny, in the estimate, they did not include a bandage. I was told that sometimes they don't bandage a wound after surgery. What a joke that was not funny. So, one bandage was $160.00. One 50 mg tablet of Tramadol was $7.00. I pay $12.00 at Costco for 120 tablets. Talk about inflation! I am done with 1st Pet Veterinary Centers. I don't need a fancy place with soft music and snacks to meet my criteria. read more

If Hitler was a vet, he would have far more compassion than the vets in this clinic. My dog was attacked and taken to this clinic. Two severely broken legs and they just gave her a shot and released her to the care of the dog trainer who had been watching her. She has since had surgery somewhere else. I called them Friday and Saturday to ask to speak to the vet or vet tech that saw her regarding specific conditions that are an emergency as she may need emergency surgery that can help her that required 30 seconds of their time today and they are unwilling to call have the vet return the call until Monday knowing this is a life threatening situation. I explained this and they refused. Making it worse is they knew the owner of the dog was not the trainer who checked her in and they wouldn't release the records to me still and knew I was the owner. Compassion, quality care, love of animals, humanity, decency, and professionalism are my minimum expectations of any vet. This clinic doesn't have one of those traits let alone all of them. They have essentially sealed my dog's fate or made the rest of her life compromised. 1st Pet-I cordially invite you to voluntarily go out of business as you are not fit to care for animals. Not quite sure as to why this hospital has 4 stars.. my dog was suffering from a heat stroke and we had to take him here for overnight watch. Sadly, he didn't make it. The doctors here were very uncompassionate and lacked sympathy. All they cared about was the bill they got to hand us at the end of everything. Didn't catch her name, but the older woman we had as our doctor was a straight up witch. Would not recommend this place if you're dealing with a pet emergency. read more

If she's seeing one of our dogs during a visit, she'll always ask about our other dog. My puppy was throwing up after ingesting chicken jerky he got at the dog park. I previously suspected chicken jerky might be making him sick. At 1am I decided he was throwing up too much. I arrived, was greeted and was seen by a doctor within 10-15 Mins. I was given options on treatment and decided to spend $600 on some tests. Everything was negative, so they gave him some medication and sent him home. Overall, he can't have chicken jerky as it's too rough on his system. Thankfully, he has insurance. If you have a dog, please get him insurance, PetPlan is ours and it's great! I got $480 back, so it wasn't too hard on my wallet! This is a great vet, but remember it's going to be 2-3x more expensive than your normal vet. Be prepared! read more

My dog has been having seizure like episodes about every 6 months. I was very concerned and like a responsible pet owner I took my dog to 1st Pet and had her checked out. They first did an entire panel of labs. Then they told me her liver enzymes were elevated and it could be a sign of Hepatitis!! So I immediately freaked out and started Googling what that meant for my little girl. I was told I needed to come back for two more liver enzyme tests, which I did. Both tests came back with elevated liver enzymes so my dog was put on a large amount of antibiotics. I was so upset because the vet kept telling me it's a sign of an infection. My dog was then sent to a specialist at another one of their clinics and thousands of dollars later I figure out that all her elevated liver enzyme tests were because I was NEVER told my dog needed to be fasting before her bloodwork!!!!! I was then made to feel like it was MY fault!! I was then scolded like I was a child and told how lucky I was that they weren't charging me for ONE of the FIVE blood works I had done without fasting!! Let's not even talk about the ultrasound, antibiotics and allergy tests she's had....for NO REASON. This place may seem great at first but it does not care about your dog. They care about bleeding you dry and giving you ZERO answers along the way. If you ask intelligent questions they get nasty with you. Dr. Babyak in Chandler really left a bad taste in my mouth today with the attitude that it was my fault I didn't know enough to fast my dog. I'm sorry but this is my FIRST dog and I'm not a vet, YOU are!!! To have had ALL those blood works and for my 76 yr old father to be the one to have to figure out why they were coming back elevated is pretty bad. The vet this trip said I was lucky she figured it out!! She totally ignored the fact that my father is the one that said "hey does she need to be fasting" and NOT her. The vet is full of herself and not worth the SIX-SEVEN hours I have wasted sitting in that office (oh yes, be prepared to spend three hours in the Chandler office). After so much wasted time, money and stress I'm so done with this facility. They are okay if you have a crisis or a emergency but forget about this place for anything else unless you want to be put through the system. I'd give them zero stars if I could. I also heard them talking about this situation behind my back which left me feeling not so great. Also, any place that comments negatively or condescending after a customers unhappy review is a place that you should be wary of and by the looks of these reviews it seems as if 1st Pet has a habit of doing that so be forewarned. I've worked in the management business for a while now and this place is only nice to happy customers which begs the question, why have management at all? read more

The worst vet experience......You go to this facility and they do a short consult with you and they make you pay $200 up front and fill out some forms. Then they tell you it will be 4-5 hours. They took my dog to a kennel. Which I felt very uncomfortable about. Why would I leave my dog in a kennel when I am there with my dog??? They told me to go outside or to go do "whatever" and they would call me within 4-5 hours. After 3 hours I went back because I don't live close by and asked what the status was with my dog. They said they were too busy with other emergencies so they haven't seen my dog yet. I knew my dog wasn't an emergency and I understand the importance of emergencies but honesty and communication would be nice and helpful. So we were put in a room and my dog needed to relieve herself. So I told them I was going outside- they didn't care. We came back in and I inquired of the time she was in a kennel if she had any water to drink. And I was TOLD we don't give animals anything to drink if they have diarrhea or nausea. I immediately said that's not what my dog is here for and she needs some water after 3 1/2 hours. Then we went to a room where we could be together and we waited in that room for another 2 hours. I finally decided to stand in the hallway and maybe someone would ask what we were doing in the hallway. A lot of staff/employees walked by me and my dog and said how cute my dog was but asked nothing about why I was just standing there. And I finally said to someone she has been here for 5 1/2 hours and my dog still hasn't been seen nor has anyone been honest with us or told us when we will be seen. The only answer I got was is....your dog isn't an emergency and we handle emergencies first. I am a pet lover- I understand that and have been in that place before with a animal but it would be nice to know the status of when you will be seen rather than sitting in a room for 2 hours. I finally asked for my money to be refunded back to my credit card and left. It was a very long day for my dog and I and she got absolutely no medical care ... a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME...and was never seen and was mistreated(lack of water and relief) while she was in a kennel for 3 hours. I don't recommend this facility due to their lack of customer service, respectability to a customer, and they surely don't stick to their mission of "we can help, no matter what your pet's condition is". THAT'S NOT TRUE ! They even told me that themselves... we weren't an emergency! AWFUL EXPERIENCE! read more
