In comparison to Chase, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America, my overall best experience is with this Citi Bank. This is the only location I've done business with and the efficiency is great. I usually don't have to wait long with an account specialist or teller. With simple transactions, out within 15 min. There aren't many customers and wait times are minimal. The account specialists also speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and maybe Vietnamese if that is a bonus. Parking is not the best as it is one way onto Castro Valley Boulevard for exit and entrance is turning into Santa Maria Avenue after the light. read more

Jay Phuong Hoang is the branch manager. He caters to you IF your account is high in funds...if not, he won't give you the time of day. He walks around like he owns the branch and his demeanor comes on strong and rude. Sorry, but I've noticed with all the times I've been in the branch he certainly caters to his own. One day he'll know you if there is something that's in it for him, the next day he'll look right past you if he has nothing to gain. Seriously, I don't know how his "MINIONS" work for him. Positives: came on a Saturday around noon and spoke with Angela who happened to be a branch manager there! My mom & I had account login issues (because Citibank locks customers out of their accounts after account linking issues). Fortunately, despite it taking awhile, she skillfully helped us through the entire process - even helping my mom with the gift card questions for her Citi premier card reward pts. I have banked with Citi bank before it was Citi Bank. ONLY at this branch am I likely to be devalued not just as a customer but a person. Jay/Phuong Hoang from the moment he was forced to interact with me was egregiously horrible! I had to force him to even say hello. I said hello how are you? He said "you can sit here". It was brought to my attention speaking to a banker that an account that was suppose to be closed in 10/21 was NEVER closed. And each month they subtracted a fee. I was unaware because I never received statements on this account and I had removed it from my app. Jay/Phuong Hoang was so concerned that I was focused on the fee refund that he never addressed or offered to fix or address the actual issue! I went in to the branch over 2 weeks ago. Both my parents have disabilities so I have Power of Attorney and need to add myself to their account. First, I went with my mom to have Citibank send her a new card in the mail. It's been over 2 weeks and she hasn't gotten it. The teller said it would be overnighted. Secondly, Carmen is terrible. She told me to send her POA paperwork via email. I sent that to her over 2 weeks ago and she hasn't responded. I've called her and emailed her multiple times. It shouldn't be this hard to get what my parents need! They have no access to their accounts right now and it's incredibly frustrating!!!! read more

Sherry in the teller line helped me complete a balance transfer. Despite not doing balance transfers in branch, she went the extra 10 miles when i told her i had tried to do this at home twice before and it gave me an error message. She called credit cards for me & when the error persisted she called technical support. She must have helped me for at least an hour! Remind me never to bank with Citibank. I'm in line to cash a check from someone who banks at Citibank. It was a birthday gift. They tell me that there are only 3 banks in the area that are capable of cashing checks to someone who doesn't have a Citibank account. And they aren't one of them. Why is that? I've been a loyal Citibank customer for about 8 or 9 years now, I think? It was around the time when I started working in Castro Valley.. so that's where that number came from. What I liked most about Citibank was their ATM system. It works like how you would use a credit card at the gas pump. Just swipe your card and put it back in your pocket. The other banks' ATM actually TAKES YOUR CARD and returns it AFTER you finish your transaction. See, I had this issue with Wells Fargo where my card was stuck in the machine. Can you imagine my frustration? Shortly thereafter, I closed my account with Wells. I don't know how the other banks' ATMs are now, but if they're not doing the quick swipe and go, sucks for them. *THIS JUST IN: Bank of America is NOT up-to-date with the ATM swipe!* The swiping method makes for quicker ATM transactions! I had a costco citi bank credit card my credit score dropped and citi bank close my account but I still has to pay off the balance. I was paying in the citi app and got it down to $80.00 and citi bank blocked and close down the app so I could not make a payment on line. I went to citi bank here in castro valley for help. The teller said that I need to pay by money order but did not say where to send it. I now owe $115. read more

Kind of disappointed in the customer service here at this bank. Not from the tellers but from the lady at her office seat just being rude and talking loud and annoyingly. Making a few of us in there wanting to leave. I didn't want to take pictures in the bank. But I now know why it is better to call customer service, and the reason why is because not only are they friendlier but the calls are recorded. But in person at the bank, those conversations or hearing the lady how she was wasn't recorded. But I guess that's what Yelp is for. I recommend calling the number behind your card for anything, but if you have to go inside to cash a check or deposit money then you are in and out. read more

I couldn't be more disappointed with my Mortgage experience with Citibank. Everything started to go bad when they switched the servicing of the loan to Cenlar. Erroneous 1098's processed and never sent by Cenlar. No less than 5 one hour phone calls later - I finally just went to my online portal to get the information that miraculously appeared after never receiving the revised 1098 by fax, mail or email despite 5 request and confirmations. I also had severe hail damage to my home which required me to get Cenlar's "approval" before being able to cash any of the insurance checks. This time no less than 15 one hour phone calls and never once being able to speak to anyone that could actually give an answer other than what was in the script. They refuse to EMAIL documents and only work thru FAX (yes despite it being 2020) and US postal service. So much for being a Citibank Gold customer - it appears their outsourced provider doesn't care about customer service. read more

Never, ever consider getting a mortgage or HELOC from Citibank. They transfer the servicing over to their company CENLAR and they are absolutely horrible to deal with. Their statements are difficult to understand and I found numerous errors with absolutely no responsible customer service. Their phone service (even pre-COVID) has you running in circles and their "Corporate" response, promised within 24 hours, was non-existent until I filed a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller. Even though Citibank retains the Note, there is no help to be found within Citibank, even at their Corporate NY office. It was so stressful with the errors compounding so I had to refinance just to stop the problems; almost six months after the payoff, my Reconveyance still is not processed and I have claims filed against them. Blanca Hernandez is a 5-star for banking/financial needs but please heed my warning about their mortgage equity loans. read more

I opened my first bank account here in the 80s when it was Glendale Federal and banks weren't wealthier than most countries. The three stars are for Dawn Paonessa, friendly tellers, and a reliable ATM. Dawn takes care of business for her customers and does what she says she is going to do. I can't say that for many bankers these days. Subtract one star for Citibank as an overall institution. Avoid Citi Personal Wealth Management like a coughing person with tuberculosis. Subtract another star for the inattentive branch manager. I had some complex banking needs and I wasn't able to get a response from this guy even after he was emailed from a manager at another branch. I switched to that other branch to get the service I needed. read more

A banking blunder compelled me to close my account at Citibank. The new manager graciously supervised the cutting of a cashier's check without putting up too much of a fuss. But that scarcely atoned for the mistake (by a former employer before the new manager took over), which undermined the supposedly foolproof quasi-trust account and rendered it susceptible to probate, thereby defeating the whole purpose of opening the account in the first place. read more

I opened an account at this bank/branch because I was tired of getting socked with international transaction fees from Chase when on vacation. You can use your ATM anywhere in the world with no fees with CB. They were very helpful and even called Social Security office for me to have a direct deposit changed to my new account. Then I needed a business account for a very small home business; they bent over backwards to help me set it up. Even the branch manager Julius Cooper pitched in to help. I realize these are difficult times, but Citibank needed to release an automated answering message system right away for their patrons regarding the closing of their banks throughout Contra Costa County. You've tragically left out a subset of people that are in dire need of the information as to where to go to converse with a teller, or to let them know which banks are actually open, or how to contact somebody/anybody for help with their finances. You left out many elderly who do not have ATM cards and/or computers and/or smart phones. The elderly cannot get through to Citibank on the telephone these days, which, for many, is their only means of communication. As far as I know, at this time, there is one Citibank open on Contra Costa Blvd in Pleasant Hill. I was told (after I finally got through to this particular branch on the phone) I will have to stand in line. May I suggest that you put out chairs six feet apart for the elderly and disabled to sit while they wait. I had to call three branches to get the above-mentioned information. So now I will go with my 89-year-old mother, and I will stand in line for her so that she may get her money. I would like Citibank to know that I also tried to find contact information to send this grievance directly to them on my mother's behalf; alas I could not find an email contact for them...perhaps because I don't belong to Citibank. I give Citibank no stars, but it will not let me post unless I select a star. read more

This bank has been so very helpful to me. I had several questions about different accounts. The teller was patient with me and when she didn't know the answer instead of making something up, she got the manager and together they worked with me. I was so surprised and happy with my experience that I opened an account then and there even though I just came in with questions. The only thing I dislike is the ATM machine is on CVBLVD and around the building from parking. I think it's a tad strange, but not something I can't get over. read more

The bank itself and what it has to offer is wonderful. But the best part has been Chad Bateman. He is the one who initially set me and my family up with accounts and credit cards. We've been with Citibank for about 4 months now, and he has just made everything so much easier and so comfortable to deal with. I tried to cash a check in this bank which has been my bank for 11 years. This was the first time I went inside this branch. They did not want to cash my check and if I wanted to deposit it was going to be on hold which would've created an inconvinience for me. So I left and went to another branch were they did help me with no problem they cashed my check right away. I feel that they discriminated me for being Latina and my appearance, because I have tattoos and wear flashy outfits. read more
