A few weeks ago, our garage door system started squeaking a little bit on one side during closing. Over the following weeks, that squeaking grew to full on neighbor waking banshee shrieks on both sides during closing as well as opening. Something was happening, something not good, and we needed to figure it out -- fast. We did some research, decided we wanted to replace our opener and springs, and reached out to a variety of garage door companies around the Sj Bay Area. Some companies ignored us, some were clearly trying to swindle us, and some gave us incorrect and misleading information. All of them were sloooow to respond and questionable in their guidance. But then we reached out to Tom. He responded right away. He was kind, and deeply knowledgeable and professional. And he fit us into his schedule same day, AFTER typical business hours. Wow! He arrived on time, thoroughly evaluated our system, listened to our concerns and answered our questions. And let me tell you, tom is a proper expert in garage doors. He didn't just find the source of the problems; he also took the time to educate us and explain our options in an approachable and engaging way. His estimate for a new belt opener and new springs was around the lower middle of the range of quotes we had gotten from others. Super reasonable. But he had infinitely more of our trust. We knew we would get quality work from him, unlike the other companies we had spoke with. Once we agreed on the quote -- mind you, this is about 6:30-7pm -- he said he could do it right then and there. And he did! In the span of just a few hours, we went from complete struggle to hope in sight to complete fix. tom skillfully banished the banshee screams and now our garage door system is whisper quiet. Sometimes we just press the button to open/close the door to marvel at the barely audible hum. It's strange, in a very very good way. Up and down garage door and gate is one of the best home service providers I have ever hired. My heavy, extra wide garage door mechanism failed on Sunday afternoon. I was fortunate to contact tom, the owner of up and down Garage Door and Gates and he came to my home within an hour of my call on a Sunday. Note, I live up in the hills and it is tough to get to. I now live above communication hill. Eden was fast, efficient, clean and he absolutely knows what he is doing. Not only were the main springs defective, but one of the two major steel cables was starting to frey and he replaced those as well. Lastly, he saved my electric motor which were were both feared was "burned out." I haven't met a more honest, efficient and nice home repair specialist in many years. Who knew there was a law specifying what kind of openers are allowed? Yeah, I looked that up because I'm a geeky software engineer who is all thumbs for hardware. She was polite and knowledgeable and able to answer questions I had. A tech name tom responded and gave me a window between 1130 and 1330 hours for his arrival.
