Another retro store reference this place because it's the only one that still resurfaces disks, so I finally came in (40 minute drive) just for the lady to tell me that they don't have the resurfacing solution at the moment. Was super bummed out but I guess I'll come back another day. Now the store it self is nothing special, honestly they need to renovate it like really badly. They have a lot of games for all systems but nothing really special that I saw, mostly lower end stuff that got traded in and doesn't sell. I have been coming here since it first opened and I have never had a bad experience, I can often find rare and old games that I need for my collection. Even if they don't have the particular game if you let them know that you're looking for it they'll keep an eye out for it for you. It's one of the few places where you can still barter for prices, even their newest arrivals can be negotiated on and you can get well under market value for games. The staff are so incredibly friendly and helpful, it's always so nice to have a chat with whoever's there. It's very clear that all the employees care very deeply about video games and other nerd stuff, very refreshing. It's never too busy at one time and the new set up is very open so it's easy to walk around and look at the selection. The selection is vast especially for older systems. While I'm able to find games for my PS5, I can also find a larger selection of games for Dreamcast and PS2. The prices are very fair and there's great value. The service is better than places like GameStop and they're policies on returns and trades are the best out there in my opinion. read more

Older, used games stores are a dying breed. As with any used game joint, the selection and availability is always in flux, but that's part of the fun isn't it? Being there at the right moment, finding the right game at the right price. Browsing through luscious, mouthwatering treasures that are NES and Genesis games. I'm quite happy with finding an excellent example of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and Dragon Warrior. It's like being at a auto junkyard, digging up for precious parts, except it's video games! The owner and staff are quite friendly, and hardcore knowledgeable. Even better, they fix consoles. Old Sega CD units, Playstations, etc. My wife would stab me with a blunt object, if she knew how much I was spending here. While they've been mostly closed during the pandemic, I'm looking forward to getting back in here while the daily grind lunch break. read more

Sold me a fake Crystal Pokémon game for my Gameboy Color that isn't fully working. While visiting Ikea, I decided to search up local retro video games stores and 1UP Videogames Covina popped up, so I decided to give them a visit. Parking can be busy during peak hours and finding the storefront as a first-timer was a bit difficult due to lack of signage or thereof. Entering the store I was greeted by two young ladies and a presentation of a vast selection of video games, memorabilia, and novelty items. I had asked one of two ladies if they had any Gameboy color games and was pointed to a glass case. I was searching for Pokémon games in particular and was told all of their copies were "Reproduction Models", meaning they are fake emulated cartridges of the game. When asking to test the games, she seemed annoyed or bothered, but still gave me the opportunity to do so. At first, I was hesitant in purchasing one, but the lady offered me $25 for Pokémon Crystal and ASSURED me it worked. The price was a bit steep, seeing as you can buy these "Repo" Pokémon games off Aliexpress for $5 w/ free shipping. But, I didn't mind supporting a local video game store, until I got home and started playing the game... Everything seemed in working order, just as the lady promised, until I noticed the clock feature was not working in-game and in addition, the PokeDex was glitching out. I.e. Showing Pokémon that I hadn't seen or caught yet. Unfortunately, I purchased a corrupted ROM version of the game and I should have known better. I likely won't be making the return trip to get a refund, who knows what the policy is there, so I'll likely just keep the game and take it as a lesson. I wouldn't recommend buying any reproduction games from this tore as they likely don't test the games themselves or assure quality. read more
