When you walk in, you see a sign that says to sit at a clean table. I did. At first, nobody came to offer me a menu or take my drink order. There were several people in the back talking, but no one up front. Then a waitress came in from the parking lot and asked whether anyone had helped me; I told her no. She brought me a menu and took my drink order - coffee and a glass of water. The young woman who delivered these was, at best, sullen. The waitress returned for my selection of food. I ordered a steak - medium rare, two eggs over easy, fruit and an English muffin - dry (i.e., not buttered). The steak was room temperature, grossly undercooked and tasteless, and the English muffins were buttered. The eggs were good. To her credit, the waitress gave me a discount for the mediocre steak. The waitress was very pleasant, and the only positive aspect of this visit. Don't bother going here. It was overall a very disappointing meal and experience. read more

utterly disappointing. our usual breakfast place was closed, and so after a bit of discussion, we tried 2 bits for the first time. firstly, the waiter did not write down our order, though he did get everything right so this isn't a complaint, though it was unusual. the coffee was the worst coffee i've ever had and tasted like dirt, i couldn't even drink one cup, and i love coffee. i had the meat lovers omelette and as far as omelettes go, this one was alright, not bad, though i can tell by the eggs they aren't fresh but carton eggs. my home fries arrived at the table cold, but despite being cold tasted OK. grandpa who came with us hated his food entirely, said the potatoes and eggs were gross, and his cold toast couldn't even melt the pile of butter they put on it. my boyfriend had the chicken fried steak and said it was OK. anything that wasn't straight up bad was just OK. all in all, we simply won't be back, there are just better options if you're looking for a GOOD breakfast. no one wants to pay for cold, subpar food and we could do better ourselves at home. from the moment we sat down and i tasted that nasty coffee, to the waiter not writing down our order, to the poor quality of various aspects of our meals, to me this experience reflects on a place with zero standards. just being in business a long time and have a dedicated group of regulars does NOT mean the food is good. read more

My goodness. I don't know why I waited so long to try a 2 Bits Cafe breakfast. It was my birthday, and I wanted to celebrate all day by eating good food and being with good people. So, we started with breakfast. I was craving something with home-made flair, and I suddenly remembered my parents mentioning 2 Bits Cafe. My boyfriend and I originally thought about trying Cook N' Pot, but for the fear of developing tetanus from walking into that joint, I picked 2 Bits instead. Plus, 2 Bits takes credit card, and Cook N' Pot doesn't. THANK GOD. This place is wonderful! My boyfriend and I shared a full order of biscuits and gravy and a Clara's Favorite omelet (bacon, mushrooms, cheese, and avocado). They give you 2 biscuits (each cut in half) for the biscuits and gravy, and they are HUGE. On top of that, the biscuits are absolutely delicious. Big, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth. The gravy is not the best I've ever had, but it is still quite good, and given the biscuit story, you can't go wrong. Clara's Favorite is like an explosion of wonderful flavors in your mouth. That's about all I can say about that. Just get it. It's worth it. Plus, you get your choice of home fries or hashbrowns in addition to toast. Just so you know, please use the home made jam - SO GOOD. Now, don't think 2 Bits is any sort of fancy restaurant. It's not. It's truly where many retirees of Yuba City spend their morning with other retirees to discuss news, politics, and other things. It's really just one big open room that looks like more like a recreation room than a restaurant. Also, the coffee mugs 2 Bits use are the same ones you'd expect to find in someone's kitchen cupboard - all different kinds from all different places. I found that feature rather endearing. So try it. It's delicious, filling, and can be pretty easy on the budget depending on what you order. Our little breakfast (that sent us home with leftovers, which we ate later on in the middle of the night) cost us about $15. read more

So you're in Yuba City, starved, maybe a little hungover, and you want some good breakfast. To your left, dirty old Jack In the Box. To your right a dubious establishment titled The Lumberjack or something. What to do? Turn around, go down Rocca Way, and check out 2 Bits Cafe. This is a good little "diner-esque" type breakfast place. Nothing super fancy, but good food and friendly service. I walked in to get a feel for the place, noted it was very busy, and decided to try out the outdoor seating. As such I can't speak much to the interior. The "patio," if you want to call it that, is a few deck tables and chairs and not much else. It has the advantage of being quiet and mostly deserted. It took a bit for the server to notice I was there, probably due to how busy it was and the fact that I was outside, but once she did service was quick and polite. I decided to go with J's Special French Toast or something like that. 2 slices of french toast, 2 eggs, and a slice of ham. What I didn't know is that the "slice of ham" is basically a cross section of a pig. It literally takes up almost the entire place. This should give you an idea of the portions here which, from what I've seen, are pretty ridiculous. Not complaining, but there was no way I could finish it. The french toast was the obvious star. Made from fresh slices of french bread cut long ways, it was crispy on the outside, slightly sweet, and really didn't even need much on top. It comes with a blessedly moderate amount of sugar on top (some places really overdo it) and was really very good. The eggs were good, cooked correctly. Not sure what else you can really say about fried eggs. As far as the ham it was tasty and provided a nice bit of savory to balance the sweet of the toast. All in all, delicious. I spent some time just chilling and drawing after and the server was nice enough to refill my coffee a few times, not rushing me out. In summary, I'd recommend this place if you are just looking for a relaxed, tasty, and generous breakfast. It's not some upscale brunch type place, but the fact that it always seems to be busy should tip you off that the food is good. read more

Probably our favorite breakfast spot in YC! Food is always spot on, service is always great too. Their big breakfast burrito is my favorite and they have a great kids menu. Prices are cheap and they even have a AAA discount, just bring in your card! Check out the daily special they have listed on the grease board when you walk in, it's usually something not on the regular menu and often worth a try. Very down home place, give it a go! read more

Don't spend your money here. The bacon they brought me was cold and looked like it had been swimming in old grease. The eggs were bland and tasted old and the hash browns were cooked so long on the top that it was hard and burned. I noticed most of their customers were older in their 60's and upwards, my guess is that they can't hardly taste the food anyways so that's why they don't notice. read more

2 Bit used to be the best place in town for breakfast and lunch, a new owner took over and he has been making changes, and not for the better. He has raised prices $4 per meal and the quality of the food has gone down. The last breakfast I ordered had underdone hashbrowns, unsalted and really quite gross. I'm leaving 1 star simply because I don't have the option for 0. While I could overlook the slow service in bringing us our drinks (water and hot tea) and even slower time taking our order...watching patron after patron receive their meals ahead of us, rather than be upfront and tell us they lost our order, they send someone new out to take our order again. This was after sitting there for nearly 40 minutes. We had an appointment and had to leave. We threw cash on the table for our drinks and rushed out the door, still starving. Getting in the car I realized we forgot our daughters sippy cup at the table so I ran back in. I was met by a man speaking in a very rude and sarcastic tone asking if I planned to even pay for my drinks. I responded that he needed to look at the table before accusing me and pointed to the cash. Perhaps he realized that the $5 was more than adequate for ice water and two half filled hot teas. I have been in the business in the past and my mother has owned/managed several food and bar establishments. I know good service when I receive it. I have been to this place twice on the weekend and absolutely loved it! Great service, fast, and wonderful food! Took my mom to lunch last Thursday, 4-21-11 and had the worst service ever!!! My mom and I were virtually ignored. My mom got up after awhile and got our menus. When the gentleman who was bussing tables went to the back to get a towel to clean with, he was treated to a butt chewing that we all got to hear, (from the lazy brunette with long loose hair that never even acknowledged our existence) because he had left early the day before and when she had come in that morning, she had to put coffee cups on the tables. That was probably the only thing she did that day. After getting back to the table, mom cracked open her menu and stuck her hand in syrup that was all over the menu. She tried to wipe her hand off, but since we didn't have any water yet, a dry napkin was not going to work. I got up and asked for a wet towel and was told someone would bring me one. Not too quietly they discussed what we had spilled already, since we had JUST sat down. When the waitress brought us a towel and handed it to my mom, she asked what we would like to drink and we placed our order. She asked my mom if she wanted a new menu.
