I want to give a heartfelt shout out to My Place in Delmar, NY. Thirteen of us gathered for a family meal after a funeral service on Saturday. The staff arranged a very comfortable seating arrangement for us where we could move around and interact with one another, despite the restaurant being very busy. We arrived last week around 545pm and met a coworker who had arrived several minutes before us. After we sat down, we were greeted by our server and placed an order for some drinks and 1 beer. After about 15-20 minutes we finally received our drinks and we then placed an order for food. My wife ordered a cocktail that was strawberry/banana and that was fine. However, the cocktail my coworker ordered looked disgusting and tasted mid. While I don't recall the name of the cocktail they ordered I believe it had blue curacao and pineapple. Regardless of the ingredients, I don't understand why the bartender allowed a drink that resembled dirty dish water to be served in a clear cup. After finishing our drinks, we waited nearly 45 minutes for our food to be served. I found the long wait to be inexcusable. The restaurant and bar were not crowded and a family that arrived long after we did was served their food long before us. I ordered a double cheeseburger, mozzarella sticks tossed in hot garlic Parm, medium boneless wings, and an order of French fries. The food left a lot to be desired. The hamburger patties had the taste and consistency of the cheap, frozen patties you buy in a store. The mozzarella sticks were similar. The French fries were unsalted and tasted stale. The boneless wings were spicy, as I ordered. But the sauce tasted like it had BBQ sauce added and the meat wasn't delicious. I won't even discuss the "Melba" sauce I ordered with my mozz sticks. My Place did not live up to the hype for us and we will not be returning. Our server was polite and got tipped well due to that. But between the long wait and abysmal food, I'll be taking my money elsewhere. read more

Only had the wings, which were nice and crispy. The issue I can't overlook is that the "hot" was not traditional buffalo sauce, but rather a thick tomato paste type sauce. Closest thing we could think of was Manwich Sloppy Joe Bold (LOL). Definitely won't order them again from here. read more

Small seating area in restaurant with extra seating outside and a small bar. The establishment is clean, and employees are nice. The bar stools are uncomfortable to sit in at the bar and outdated. The food is okay, mostly fried food that goes well when you're having some drinks. I ordered some onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and a Hot open turkey sandwich with gravy and fries. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were basic restaurant fried food, nothing special. I really enjoyed the hot open turkey sandwich with fries and gravy. This dish is nostalgia for me. My mother used to make it for me when I was a child. So it has a special place in my heart.. so all this food and 6 beers I shared with my wife came out to about $65, not bad considering other places I have been too. This has to be one of the best restaurants to ever step foot into Delmar. I have been going to My Place for probably around 20 years. Never has the quality changed. The wings are probably the best you could find anywhere near Albany. They have a very unique flavor and always in the perfect condition. The Mild/Medium sauce that I get with these are spot on. They are not small wings and are filled with tenderness. The Blue Cheese you get with these yet again is very unique and something I always have to ask for an extra side for because I love it so much. I usually get a side of french fries with these and those as well are always super crispy and bring a lot of flavor. Another thing I get here sometimes would just be the normal Chicken Tenders. Again, always a tender chicken with some great flavor. Staff are always super nice, and instantly try to get your drinks to the table when you walk in. Clean looking restaurant as well. If I could give this place a 10 star on here, I would do that instantly. Keep it going My Place!! read more

If what you are going for is a cheap bite and cold drink, this place is your spot. But, while great for a low-quality bite and beer, My Place & Co leaves a lot to be desired from all other aspects. With a menu mostly focus on pub food, many of its dishes don't seem to carry much fat or flavor. The burgers are dry and have no depth; where are my seasonings? The just wings aren't fried long enough, leaving behind a cooked, but mushy wing. And the sauce? Needs more seasoning too. The fries and slaw? Run of the mill average, if even. If there was more focus on spices, My Place & Co could definitely help pick up their slack. Come here for reasonably low-to-average prices on food and beer. That's about it. The food is hit or miss, ranging from ok to disappointing. The space itself is dated. The waitstaff is fine, the kitchen staff seems efficient, and the usual bartenders are unfriendly at best, which is unusual for a 'local' type place. There is an outside seating space in front of the building, but it is pretty unwelcoming and right next to a busy and noisy road. Unless you are really looking to save a few bucks, there are other options just up the street in a nicer part of the town. read more

Of all the restaurants in Delmar, My Place by far has the best menu, the best food, and the best service. Based on about ten visits there in the last six months, and no matter how busy the place was, the food always came out hot, fast, and we'll prepared. My Place used to be one of our favorite places to eat. But after last night we won't be going back. Service was mediocre to say the least. Couldn't use a credit card or ATM, both systems supposedly down, but lottery system working. All four of our orders had errors. Were incorrectly charged for drinks. Items on the regular menu not available to order. It took more than half an hour to get four sandwiches, there was only one other person in the dining room. (tl;dr version: Food was OK-to-solid, atmosphere was good-not-great, service was great.) Confession: I love cheap bar food. Burgers, fries, club sandwiches, wings (especially wings), mozzarella sticks, hot dogs... I love them all. That said, however, I do think there are "5 star" bar foods I love and "3 star" bar foods I love. My Place happens to fall in that latter category. Allow me to explain why. My wife and I moved to Delmar about 5 months ago and we were told we should try My Place, as it is one of the local watering holes (Swifty's being the other). We finally got around to trying it and, while I love cheap bar food, I wasn't wowed with the results. When we walked in, I was glad to see a layout I've always liked - the island bar. Island bars allow for more seating around the entire periphery of the bar and it's a great setup for watching TV or interacting with the bartenders. In short, My Place is a neighborhood bar with what appeared to be lots of regulars. That's a good sign and an atmosphere I like. The rest of the restaurant is seat-yourself, so we took a table next to some bench seats. We were greeted nearly instantly by a waitress. That's one thing I'll never complain about with My Place - their service was impeccable both times we've been. We ordered drinks. Now, I'm a beer drinker. I would even say I'm a beer snob. That said, there aren't a lot of options at My Place. Rather than go with the BMCs (Bud-Miller-Coors), I went for a Yuengling, though they also have Sam Adams. Beer and waters were brought out quickly, despite a fairly densely populated bar area. The beer was cold (too cold for really good beer, but this was Yuengling, so that's no problem). All in all, no complaints with beer. The menu at My Place is a bit jarring - like a lot of similar neighborhood bars, they do just about everything. Burgers? Seafood? Pasta? Fries? Sandwiches? Check. Check. Check. Check. Check. Being in a burger mood, I ordered the 1/2 lb. Bacon Cheeseburger as a platter with fries. The cheeseburger arrived quickly. The fries were hot and were of the shoestring variety - no complaints there. The burger, though, was clearly a lower-grade cut without nearly enough fat content. The ideal burger (in my own opinion) needs about 20% fat. If grinding your own, chuck works, but you can also use other, better cuts with bits of fat thrown in. The difference is clear - lower-fat cuts lead to tasteless burgers. Some places compensate by over-seasoning the inside or outside of their patties, but My Place didn't do that (which I actually appreciate). Rather, the burger itself was rendered mostly flavorless. It was also cooked medium-well, when I asked for medium. I don't get too upset when my $6 burger is slightly overcooked, though. The bacon was just OK (again, a lower quality, but for that price it's understandable). I added some more mustard to get some flavor and enjoyed the rest of my meal. The wife had chicken tenders that appeared to be pre-formed and frozen. Whatever. They were cheap and chicken tenders are chicken tenders - hard to screw up, nearly impossible to impress. In all, that experience was pretty solid - a three-star kind of neighborhood restaurant. Since then we've gotten some of their wings delivered. If you like crispy wings, theirs are quite crispy (when ordered so). The heat on the "hot" variety was minimal (compared to Swifty's, whose "hot" is downright nuclear). The "mild" (which the wife got) weren't very flavorful at all, but that's OK. Delivery was prompt, but I wouldn't stray too far from wings or chicken tenders for delivery - everything else will probably steam in the package and get a bit too soggy). On our last visit, I tried the burger again - this time a 1/3 lb. cheeseburger with Russian dressing - and had much the same issue. The sauce helped a bit. My wife got the club and seemed to enjoy it quite a bit, so that's definitely an option in the future. In summary, I like My Place for what it is - a good, cheap, neighborhood bar with decent bar food. I won't go in and expect to be blown away and I also won't leave upset with the service. Most nights I'd rather eat somewhere with great service and decent food than somewhere with mind-blowing food and terrible service (though I realize others will certainly disagree). I also love the blue-collar, homey atmosphere - I can certainly envision myself parking at the bar and watching a ball game or two in the future. Some will quibble and say, "Three stars for a good experience? Sounds like four stars!" That's not how I operate, though. Three stars is a place I'll visit again but won't rave about. Four stars is rave-worthy with minor issues. Five stars is a rare combination of terrific service, atmosphere, and food. Would I recommend My Place? Sure, if you don't mind decent food and a good atmosphere. If you're looking for a culinary experience, you can safely direct your attention elsewhere. read more

We went because we've heard good things but we were quite disappointed. We wound up only ordering wings because after being seated on the patio we realized we weren't allowed to eat off the normal menu for some reason (waitress said nothing about it). We got garlic parm wings and after about 25 mins they finally came out but seemed to be buffalo parm. They gave us 2 carrots and 2 celery but they were only about an inch or two long. Service was terrible. Ordered a vodka & club soda with a lemon and lime, she brought out vodka and Pepsi. When she finally brought out the vodka soda there was no fruit. My husband and I have been going here for almost a year. When we started, the food was decent and the waitstaff/bartenders were friendly. In the past few months though, there have been several staff changes and the food is "just okay" and the bartender is rude and oblivious. The one time my husband ask for a specialty platter and Jay/Jason wrote it down wrong. When I informed him of his mistake, he told me that the kitchen knew what I wanted and don't worry. Well, the kitchen didn't know what I wanted and we were charged for a side of fries and not a platter. Good place for late night delivery. They have a really large menu so me and a friend ordered a bunch of apps after midnight on a Friday night - Mozz sticks, medium wings, jalapeno poppers and onion rings. We called and they told us delivery would take about 25 minutes which was good to hear because we were starving...but they didn't actually show up for an hour. When the food arrived it was nice and hot. Wings were good, could've been a little more crispy... Mozz sticks were really good also. Onion rings were OK but a little heavy on the grease...I don't eat jalapeno poppers but my friend said they were really good. Overall, I enjoyed the food and everything was pretty reasonably priced. DeAnna and I stopped in for a quick bite one afternoon. We wanted to try someplace new, but didn't want to spend a lot. We passed it on the way through Delmar and decided to stop. As you walk in the smell tells you exactly what you're going to get. It smelled like a backyard cookout. Hamburgers, hotdogs and beer. And that's exactly what I ordered. Hamburger and a beer. There was nothing earthshaking about the burger. It was just like a friend of mine makes in his back yard. Nearly overdone, just a bit of crispiness to the edges. In reality, this is probably a two star place. However, it is exactly what it seems and it deserves some credit for filling that niche. The food was what I expected, and it was very reasonably priced. If I were to compare it to the other options to fill this need, it would be compared with a fast food burger place and My Place would win every time. I would've given this place 2 stars but upped it 1 star for the customer service and the fact that they deliver and it was somewhat on time/quick. The prices seem low but the portions are so small. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap without bleu cheese that then came with nothing on it..the burgers were super small. My bf and I stopped at My Place this evening knowing nothing about it except that it was close and open. We were pleasantly suprised with the food. We ordered the medium wings which turned out very good. The sauce is the right amount of spicey and sweet. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and my date had the bacon cheeseburger. Both were really good. Maybe not life changing good but much better than expected. Our bill for 2 iced teas, 10 wings, a burger, and a chicken sanwich and 2 orders of fries came to just under $25. This was a great deal! By the way, the fries are pretty good! The atmopshere gives a feeling of a local place where regulars eat and mostly drink. I have been to my place well over 10 times. My father loves this place. But to be completely honest the food and service is not that great. It's hit or miss with how their food is going to be. Some days is good and some days it's terrible. The food is typical bar food and have good prices. I have gotten food over and undercooked a few times. I have order food for take out twice and both times the food was horrible. It was well undercooked and cold ( I only live 5 mins away), the food should not have been cold. They have gone through a lot of servers at this place over the years and there's a reason why. The servers they find are not so good and usually have attitudes.
