We got seated exactly at the time of reservation. I ordered two starters as my main: the Thai red curry mussels and fried goat cheese. Both great! Ordering the mussels by themselves would've been too small a portion. My friends ordered the trout, which was served with rice and vegetables - they were very happy! Went for dinner on Thursday night with the hubby and baby. The service and drinks were outstanding. We got the three course meal and started with the ponzu scallops and garlic chili prawns, both of which were delicious and perfectly cooked. The entrees however were not. I ordered the bison steak and my hubs ordered the ribeye and we both ordered them med rare. Mine came out rare and my husbands was way over cooked.... Almost to med well (such a waste of a rib eye). We weren't about to send them back and wait for new steaks with a five month old getting fussy so we just ate them but it's hard to understand how a fine dining chef/cook can screw up both steaks. Ate there twice in our half week Whistler visit. We ate a lot: appetizers, salads, mains, kids food, and desserts. Our favorites being the fried goat cheese, the 21 salad, the filet as a main and steak for kids, and the apple crumble and brownie. The kids spaghetti is also great and very large! We came here during October, which is during their low season, so they were running a few promotions. We chose their appie promotion and picked three appetizers. Their famous chili prawns and fried goat cheese dishes were delicious and amazing as expected. We also ordered the mussels, which were tiny and disappointing. They were the tiniest mussels I've ever received from a restaurant! The servers were very attentive and checked up on our table often. The bread with the butter I was skeptical about since I think it should come free and not as a $2 add on but the bread was fresh from the oven and the butter was fabulous! The goat cheese appetizer- creamy deliciousness ! But I am most shocked about the Stuffed Portabella dish. I decided to go outside my comfort zone. I like mushrooms- not love- and I usually don't like them whole... I like to disguise them in something. But this dish blew me away. And from eating in the amazing restaurants of NY and NJ, I was simply shocked. A well cooked portabella cap with caramelized onions, spinach and goat cheese with a fabulous topping of Panko bread crumbs.... Over scrumptious butter mashed potatoes and root vegetables grilled. We finally had a chance to have dinner at 21 Steps. Book a reservation online, it's a busy place for a reason. All of our meals were amazing. Good selection of kids meal. Our two kids went with the pasta and specialty kids drinks. My wife and I had the fresh mussels, chilli prawns, rib eye steak, and lamb chops. It was all fantastic. My son doesn't eat meat and he was eating a lot of my lamb chops. Get extra bread for dipping in the Thai sauce for fresh mussels. Kids had the cookie desert and the adults shared apple crumble. These guys have a great $40 menu that will treat you to 3 courses. I easily ate here on Keto diet. I had the 21 Steps salad with arugula and goat cheese. Be sure to skip the candied pecans. For 2nd course I ordered the ribeye which had a great char and was cooked perfectly. For 3rd course we ordered Irish coffee sans sugar. Perfect ending! We sat at the bar and had exceptional service with a view of the kitchen. Overall excellent experience and good value. This is a cool restaurant in the whistler village. It's upstairs and has a nice view of the walk below. The atmosphere is pretty good. Pretty mellow and is typically pretty busy so make a reservation. The staff was nice and attentive to us. They were a young wait staff and somewhat inexperienced. Seemed mostly like ski/board/bike type people and doing this for money. No complaints really. The food wasn't spectacular. The prices were decent. The only thing I loved about this was the bread and the butter. It was a treat. We had to ask for it which they immediately obliged but it wouldn't been nice to have it brought out. The stuffed mushrooms are a no. I think they're actually made with cheese wiz. Anyway, no mushrooms. Shortrib was decent, schnitzel not bad, and appetizers typical. read more

Food - below mediocre , had seafood linguine, ribs and green salad. Earls or cactus is better and was quite disappointed. Robes was dry and tasteless . Pasta completely horrific , and ingredients felt more like Indian or something and didn't bring the seafood flavour. My seafood pasta beats this by far. Ambiance , it was upbeat and good mix of people but fairmont still my fav in whistler. Service- attentive Overall would not return , meal was just tasteless and unenjoyable. Yup, 21 steps to reach the 2nd floor inside entrance. Great service, cocktails and portions. The star anise and orange braised pork ribs with a sweet soy glaze were absolitely outstanding. Wine prices were good and cocktails were well made. A little odd and tacky that they offer bread and garlic butter for an extra $2. For this upscale restaurant, and price range, it should be included, no questions asked. That's why it gets 4*, instead of 5. read more

Our hotel was directly across from here, and I knew I had to visit it one night! Make a reservation on the weekends Yelpers, or there's no getting in till at least 9. It was a busy Saturday night, everything was running a touch behind schedule, but they sat us at the bar whilst we waited. Finally a window seat, looking directly over at our hotel room, haha! They had a $35 meal deal - pick from any small plate, main meal, and dessert or after dinner drink. As everything looked delicious and we were hungry, sure, full my belly please! Our recent second trip back to Whistler, we went up to 21 Steps / The Attic again. Husband and I had really great experience the last time we were there and wanted my sister and our friend to try it out as well. The Attic did not disappoint. The restaurant (21 Steps) is on the second floor and the bar (The Attic) on the third floor. We went straight up to the Attic and picked a booth to sit in. It was our first night in Whistler and after a long travel, it was really nice to have a sit down and throw back a few glasses of beer. The atmosphere was cozy and laid back. I'm up in Whistler for the weekend by myself, and I strolled into town, looking for a place where I could grab a beer and some good food at a bar. The Westin concierge recommended 21 Steps, and they were right on the money. I had two small plates for myself. I had both the bacon wrapped filets and the fried goat cheese. YUM! It hit the spot. That was the perfect amount of food for me, and I left completely satisfied. I am not deducting a star here, but I agree that they are lame for charging $2 for bread and butter. If it is a wastefulness issue, just don't automatically bring bread to every table, ask if they want it or not and bring it accordingly. But don't charge for it, that's cheap. The menu is not inexpensive. I could have used the bread (and should have ordered it regardless of the principle...we did a fair amount of drinking too). I firmly believe that fancy restaurants should have free bread, just like Mexican restaurants should always have free chips and salsa. Definitely try the lamb shank and the short rib. I was in Whistler for 2 days and ate at 21 Steps both days. Normally, I would rate this a $$$, but with the general cost of food in Whistler, I suppose it's a $$ compared to other restaurants. I had paid $15 for awful ribs earlier in the day, so i was pleasantly surprised to find the special 21 Steps was offering for the evening ($25 for 3 small plates). My friend and I ordered: seared albacore tuna (which comes with a salad with sesame dressing) **5 stars** seared scallops with mango chutney and cilantro oil (the oil was so good we ended up dipping all of our bread in it) **4 stars** bacon wrapped filets (a bit overcooked and not outstanding like the other two dishes) **2.5 stars** blueberry and apple crumble served with ice cream (perfect ending to an afternoon snack, the bottom was hot and juicy, the top was crunchy and sweet) **4 stars** On our second night, they were not running the special, so we ordered entrees. They were equally impressive. local pork chips with bacon chutney served with mashed potatoes and seasoned vegetables (this would be a 5* if the veggies weren't cold) **4 stars** seafood pasta with linguine (the sauce was SO good. it was not runny at all and there was a good amount of seafood in the dish) **5 stars** The waitstaff were very attentive and professional. This place is alright - maybe there is a different standard level from this tiny cute tourist-central town? This place is rated way higher than it should be. We got five appetizers to share and decided not to get any main plates or anything else afterwards. The edamame - plain and pretty much what you expect. Unsalted. The garlic chili prawns - despite the waitress telling us the dish had some kick to it, it was pretty bland. Nevertheless, we were hungry enough to mop up the sauce with the bread (which you have to pay $2 for - this should come free considering it is plain bread and didn't even come out warm though this could be because we were there towards the end of the night). I will admit the prawns are kinda saved by the crispy fried chip things they are served with. Fried goat cheese - I don't understand why all the reviews rave about this. Each plate comes with three pieces and they are not really fried as well as we hoped. The caramelized onions are good but with the honey it's basically cheese dessert. I guess if that's what you're looking for you'll like it but I was hoping for a more complex flavor profile. The pork ribs - one of the nicer apps. Tender and with a nice sweet glaze. Not much meat per piece but eh. The bacon wrapped beef filets - the beef inside was tender, the bacon was a little tough to chew through. We also got the brownie + ice cream dessert because my brother wasn't full but didn't want to order an entree and likely be disappointed. It was pretty standard but at this point that was expected. What an amazing place! The only restaurant I recall with acoustic tiles in the high ceiling to enable dinner conversation! The ambiance is great with large windows overlooking Whistler village. My prawns with scallops and risotto was perfectly cooked and delicious with a good portion of actual seafood in the dish. My wife's penne with prawns, mussels and shrimp was also excellent. Great atmosphere, it left like you are in a ski lodge: very warm and inviting. Second, I would recommend getting the Chili Garlic Prawns and the Fried Goat Cheese. We ended up eating all tapas and this was a great option! They do a variation of a few classics. The Fried Goat Cheese was 3 goat cheese balls lightly fried and sits on top of honey and caramelized onions, served with fresh bread. Heavenly! Third, do make a reservation. Pretty good restaurant and as the name suggests you have to climb 21 steps to get in. The service was good for our party of 16. They had a 3 course meal special on for $36/-. Pick a plate from the small dishes and another from the big dishes. Finish with desert. We had a mixture of mussels (very good), garlic prawns from the small dishes. I had the cod with rice. Another had the short rib which was a tasty hunk of meat with no bones, the half portion of chicken was also good. The roast lamb also tasted good. I have been to 21 Steps every time I visiting Whistler. Tonight with party of 7, I was a little worried we could not get a table. Luckily we only waited 5 minutes. The starter menu was awesome: our favorites: Bacon wrapped beef cube (so good we had 3!) Garlic shrimps, Fried goat cheese, & pork belly. Salmon tartar was so-so. Main course was awesome too. They offered a 3 course special, and we have food overflow. Worth mentioning: Puff Pastry Caprese,Tiger Prawns and scallops, Stuffed Schnitzel, Salmon with Ponzu butter, and short ribs. With the 3 course special, we got 4 desserts for free. Again we are not disappointed. Everyone loves the brownie, cheese cake and the key lime pie are light, and apple crumble is good just not as good as the other 3. But then, what can really top warm brownie with ice cream? Service is beyond expectation. Food came really quick, waitstaff were attentive and friendly. Just a casual and friendly dining place with superb food. Definitely will visit again! Sorry no pictures. We really enjoyed this restaurant in Whistler. For appetizers, we got the fried goat cheese and the garlic chili shrimp. The fried goat cheese came with some bread, but there was not enough of it! We easily devoured 2 baskets of it with the goat cheese, which paired very nicely with the honey and carmelized onions. The garlic chili shrimp was good too and the sauce was so addicting that my mom ended up asking for even more bread to dip it in. As for entrees, the bolognese was just okay, but the salmon and lambs were both cooked perfectly. I mean, being in the pacific northwest, you expect the salmon to be good, but the flavors and freshness are just really great. And the lamb was cooked perfectly. If you're in Whistler, I'd recommend coming here for a nice meal. read more
