I lived so close to this place, but it's my boyfriend who discovered it! A little bit of my background: I grew up in Taiwan, eating authentic Chinese food made by my mom, who happens to be a chef. So I don't have the "teriyaki bowl craving" like my bf does. So you can imagine my surprise when he brought me to this restaurant raving about the food. He said it's nothing fancy, but it's a reasonably priced mom-and-pop place that satisfies his teriyaki craving just fine. All I was thinking was: dude do you have a teriyaki radar or something, you don't even live here! Anyways, it's a small restaurant family run restaurant. They were busy taking phone orders and business seems to be good. We ordered a teriyaki beef bowl and a teriyaki chicken & dumplings combo, and it was ready to go in 7 minutes. The food was pretty decent. The beef and chicken were tender and tasty, and there was plenty of vegetables and rice. To my surprise I even liked their dumplings too (I make homemade ones). A friend recommended their Spicy Chicken on rice, it's his favorite. On a cold rainy afternoon it hit the spot. Good amount of spicy heat, but the flavor was a bit too sweet. The rice was fine, but a little mushy, which didn't matter at all. It was a warming, filling vegetable, chicken glop. I will go back to try something else to see how they manage. Typical teriyaki joint here. Nothing special and nothing fancy. I wanted spicy pork but there wasn't any on the menu so I asked the owner if he could whip up dwae ji bulgogi style for me. He politely agreed to do so and I couldn't wait. I took my order to go and when I got to opening my plate, I was sorely disappointed. He made it a stir fry with a ton of cabbage and carrots with barely any pork!! I was a bit upset when I seen this because it was not what I had in mind. He and I both knew what I was talking about but he made a stir fry? I guess the veggies add more volume to the plate and of course it's much cheaper to serve this way rather than just giving me pork as I had asked. I normally would give this a 2 star rating but the food was actually decent tasting. Well, whatever pork there was in the plate tasted good. The rest of the plate was fillers. read more

Great teriyaki sauce! I tried the chicken teriyaki and definitely couldn't recommend it. Chicken was rather rubbery dark meat with the skin on, and kind of an off flavor. Frankly, I couldn't eat the meat and ended up just eating the rice with lots of sauce. That was pretty good, actually. I would maybe try one of the other teriyaki dishes, but there are other places in town that do teriyaki better and I'd rather go there. read more

Been going here for a couple of years now. The food is very good, it's my favorite teriyaki place to go to around the aloha area. However one thing they could improve on is the meat of the chicken, like many other reviews on here I too found the chicken meat quite rubbery in texture. This is the best Teriyaki place in the Aloha/Beaverton area to my knowledge. The only other place that I can think of that compares to 21 Teriyaki is a place called Teriyaki Bowl that is in Tanasbourne off of 185th Ave. 21 Teriyaki has a rather tacky and run down interior, but the food is nothing short of amazing. The people who run it are very nice and they make the food very quickly as soon as you order it. I'd recommend Spicy Chicken Yakisoba, Bul Go Ki, or Combo G (which is shredded beef and chicken over rice). Portions are quite large for any combo or meal and cost around $6.50. I've been to numerous more expensive sit down restaurants and none of them have been able to top 21 Teriyaki's Spicy Chicken Yakisoba as of yet. My favorite Mom and Pop Teriyaki shop in town with GREAT prices. This is THE place to go if you're on a budget and you just want a quiet laid back spot to eat some great teriyaki or bento. I've been coming here since 2006 and the Chicken Yakisoba is still my favorite. They do carry out orders over the phone as well which is nice when you're in a hurry. I ordered the chicken shrimp plate, when I got it I smelled a bad smell, I really tried to disregard this smell but it was very strong. I tried tasting the shrimp to find that the whole thing is rotten. I was about to throw up and couldn't stay another minute in the place. I drive by this place almost every single day and was never tempted to check it out, although I love bento! Yesterday I had the kids with me and they were whining about getting something, so I made a mistake of stopping by this place. It was around noon and the lady at the counter was the most unfriendliest person ever; she didn't smile once! I got the shrimp teriyaki plate with a side of chicken teriyaki, it was over $13 with two drinks. When the food came out, it was actually COLD! The rice was obviously not freshly cooked, the chicken was EXTREMELY hard to chew and the veggies felt like they've gotten sour.... Both of my kids love teriyaki and they said the food wasn't good. I usually don't judge a place by one visit only, but this time around it was way overboard with all the negatives. The husband cooks and wife runs the register I don't think they do very well with English which to some may make them seem unfriendly. But They have never been rude. Just efficient. Just went in for lunch. Mushy noodles, rubbery chicken, oily sauce that just tastes like oil and soy sauce. The vegetables were obviously frost bitten and shriveled before they got cooked. God I love this place! Perfect sticky rice and steamed veggies every time. I usually get the teriyaki chicken plate ($6.50): it's about two meals worth (and I'm a big guy) and actually they are VERY generous with the meat/veggies so sometimes I'll get take-out and stretch a $6.50 plate into two days worth of meals by adding my own rice at home. The only other thing I've tried has been orange chicken yakisoba, which was good as well, but I'm one of those guys that sticks with a good thing. This place has delicious food, great portion size, always fresh and tasty. My favorite dishes are the Chicken Yakisoba with a side of teriyaki sauce to drizzle on top, Udon (any kind), Hot and Spicy beef and Chicken, and the potstickers. The noodles are delicious, Udon is very fresh and they wait to add the noodles until you pick up so they don't get mushy, the teriyaki sauce is homemade and one of the best I have had. I really like that the veggies are fresh and not over-cooked, the meat is tender, and always tasty. If you are looking for a trendy, expensive, sit down meal this is not the place, but if you are looking for an affordable, fresh, tasty meal in a down to earth atmosphere, this is your place! If you call ahead for pick up they have your food ready promptly and piping hot. The owners are really nice too and remember you if you regularly come in.
