Wow! What an amazing find! I almost don't want to write a review because this is the best kept secret in Tacoma/Puyallup area! My business partner and I are renovating a home nearby and we are so glad we found this amazing place to eat and be entertained! This pub has such a chill vibe. People from all walks of life come here and the service is outstanding! Tonight we were served by Sheri and she was super friendly and helpful. Tuesday and Friday nights are live trivia night and it's free to join with a free app download and it's a blast. But let's talk about the FOOD! Omg. I've tried 4 things and everything is AMAZING!! From salads, to steak, to burgers and sandwiches and wraps and apps, this is the place to be! Every dish I've had has been amazing! The prices are fantastic too! You've got to try the Philly sandwich dip and the chipotle steak mac & cheese. Those have been my favorites so far. I guess I can't win for trying when it comes to this place. Their waitstaff has to be one of the worst when it comes to customer service. Going to keep it short and sweet. The waitstaff clearly has no urgency for the people that come inside. It's Sunday football. The motto should be to keep the drinks flowing and get those food orders in ladies but clearly your immaturity showed because you ladies couldn't care less about your money and representing your establishment. Usually come here a few times a month. Local and decent food. Last few times have been rough. Prompt to take our food and drink order but failed in the delivery of food. Saw our order sit on the counter for 15 min before someone brought it to our table. Eventually asked about a second round of drinks. After another 15 min of waiting no drinks showed up. 1 hour total spent at this place. Cold food, slow service and one round of drinks. 2 bartenders and 11 people in the room. 22 years in this industry and I've never seen anything worse in my life. I love 2121 and they have some of the best service I've ever seen . If there's a mixup, they are there to make sure it's correct and the people that work there are always checking in you. For a restaurant that's owned by the same company. I really come here for the fish and chips. They're amazing but so far I've had six things other than fish and chips off the menu and they're all equally amazing..... The staff is great and very helpful. They were busy today, but got to all of us.! The rap I had did not look very impressive, but it was absolutely delicious. It's not what you think. I thought it was going to be a dive bar. It was well lit, friendly staff, and live band on Sunday. I was really surprised with the live band. Only reason I didn't gave 4 stars is due to service was slow. I had to keep waiting for my drink to show up. Think we may had 2 people working our table. Three pool tables and great selection of drinks. Girl I ordered my drink from did not know what a Johnny Walker was and they only had Johnny Walker Red. It seemed like a biker bar but did not make you feel like you were in one. I am going back for sure to try other food items. We had Chicken and Jo's. It tasted pretty good. read more

I really wanted to like this place because I heard the food was good and I love a good dive type bar. Sadly from start to finish it was just poor poor service. We went to just celebrate a small victory for a friend for the week and I couldn't get service to save our lives. After being there for 10 minutes without any word from anyone we finally got a drink. But that was it. No more attention from any of the staff. There was one large table and two 2 tops. Was not busy at all. We wanted to order food but even after trying to get the waitresses attentive we were just fully ignored. Had to go to the bar just to pay our bill. Went here on Thursday which was 8oz steak night. The food was really good steak, baked potato my wife had salad and I had the broccoli cheddar soup. The soup was hands down one of the best I have had for broccoli cheddar. It was more chowder based then soupy. The drinks were very good and they had a generous beer selection with many local taps. The bar area is very large open space. All the tables are at one end and the other end has 3 pool tables. They also have pull tabs and plenty of televisions to watch. I've been coming to this bar for years, it was a great place to come to for a deal. They have a special each night of the week, and I usually go for either the hamburger night, Wed, or steak night Thur. This last time and a few times before, the service has been horrible. We ordered the 3 steak dinners. There were probably around 12-15 people there, with 3 waitresses. Got a beer right away and ordered right away knowing what we wanted from coming there many times before. We got our second beer. no dinner. We got our third, yes third beer, and finally the dinner shows up. Our waitress didn't come back and check on us, we sat after we were done eating waiting for someone to come by and offer a to go box....nothing....finally, after about 20 min....I got up and went to the kitchen and asked for the boxes. Then went to the bar to pay the bill because the waitress didn't come back to give us our bill either.... This place used be packed on these nights. We've literally been going here for these specials for years....And now, there's hardly anyone in there, so others must be feeling the same thing with the staff that we did....not sure about coming back, this is like the third time. Sorry to say, the awesome food was the big draw....but the service has slipped way beyond being ok. I would talk to the manager....but never seems to be around very often. read more

Interesting bar with great food! On my first visit to the Black Star, there was a baby shower party taking up half of the space inside (complete with pastel blue tablecloths, balloons, flowers, etc.). I thought 'now this is a bit odd'.. but even odder that the other half of the bar were hard-core biker types in their leathers, a pool league group having a tournament on the three tables, and several other folks just enjoying their beer and/or dinner. I loved the variety! I could tell that most of the patrons were regulars but they all seemed friendly and I didn't feel out of place at all. The reason I came in was to check out a place I had never been and try their food. No disappointment there! I ordered the fried chicken and jo's-- a huge platter with four pieces of seasoned broasted chicken and several of the biggest jo-jo potatoes I have ever seen. My pictures on this review are kind of like the food here; their "okay." That isn't to say their isn't some value here however. Do you ever just leave the house wanting good bar food that may leave a crater in your colon or don't mind jumping out the bed with a weird stomach cramp that reminds you of child labor? Well then this is a place where neither of those things will happen! The wings while not the best are "decent" enough to make the drive for and the cost is pretty good for the amount of food too! The wings meal ($12.99) comes with two sides (get the seasoned battered fries and potato salad) and about 12 wings! It really is so much food that your sure to be full for the rest of the night and that's a rarity with many establishments these days. Another thing that is excellent about this establishment is that they have some of the "best" buffalo sauce and ranch in the greater Tacoma area (take my word I'm a wing expert #LifeMission). Are they the best wings? No. Is it the best quality food? No. Are they best deal? Outside of a Wing Wednesday, they just might be. PROS: A lot of food for the price. At a bar witch means nearly endless drink possibilities. Sauces are above average. Ranch is highly above average. Where do I begin? I've been here twice now, and by my second trip there the waitress already remembered what kind of beer we drank. The bar atmosphere in this place and simple and to the point, and the food offerings are what you'd expect from a bar/sports bar. Numerous sporting events can be seen on different TVs, and the black star houses some pool tourneys. The food unpretentious and what you'd expect. I do have to say the last time I ordered a chef salad; it was the saltiest salad I've ever had, and would not recommend ordering it. The cheese sticks look and taste like ones you'd find in your grocery section's frozen isle. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed their Reuben, the meat was super tender and the meat portion in the sandwich was generous. Their BLT is also tasty. I recommend checking their specials board over the kitchen for specials of the day.... which I noticed they run an all-you-can-eat spaghetti deal. Might be worth trying next time. read more

Good burgers! I've been three times, I like the food. Burgers are very good, worth the wait and worth the money. The fries are not particularly good. Nothing bad, and they are cooked properly, they don't taste bad ... it's just that they are soggy and soft. If you like Steak Fries, or fries you'd expect from a Pub Grill, this is not it.
