In short, L&G snaked two pipes, but they did NOT snake the drain pipe of the washing machine that backed up. Thinking the problem was resolved, I did a load of laundry two days later, which resulted in a bigger backup than before. Even though L&G offers emergency service, they did not treat this as such on a Saturday. On top of that, when they did come back out on Monday, we got into a discussion about how to resolve the issue and the owner started yelling at me and dropping the f-bomb and threatened to leave without resolving the problem. They decided to stay and cut a second hole in the wall, which they never used to snake, and then tried to blame the size of the drain pipe as the cause of the problem (not their failure to snake the pipe). This drain pipe has been there for 33 years and working fine for the 19 years we've been here. After more discussion, his crew snaked the drain pipe of the washing machine, which solved the problem. L&G charged me $1200 for the initial job, which seemed high. If they had snaked the drain pipe of the washing machine first, the problem would probably have been resolved for a fraction of the price.

I don't believe in letting one bad experience negatively impact the livelihood of others; however, when it comes to safety, I think it's important to share about these experiences. There are several red flags from my experience that I'll be sharing. Red flag #1: The plumbers locked me in my basement. I was finishing up a meeting, and there was a bit of noise, so I told the plumbers that I'd be finishing my meeting in the basement. One of the plumbers asked to speak to me about 10 minutes later to let me know that they'd be opening up my ceiling. During this brief conversation, he stood at the top of the basement stairs (with the basement door open) and I stood at the bottom of the stairs because I wanted to keep my distance due to Covid. 20 minutes later I was done with my meeting so I went back up the stairs and noticed that the basement door was locked. I started by knocking on the door, which later progressed to a few minutes of banging and yelling. There was no response, but I could hear some noise upstairs, so I figured that maybe the door was locked accidentally and they couldn't hear me. Red flag #2: The plumbers locked my front door (locking me out of my own house). After a few minutes of banging on my basement door, I remembered that I left the front door unlocked because I knew that the plumbers would be going in and out of the house to grab their tools from their truck. I went out the back door and around to the front, only to discover that my front door had been locked also. It took several minutes of banging on the door before they opened the front door for me (Note: The front door lock is a deadbolt, so you can't "accidentally" lock it). There is more to the situation that I have not shared because I strongly believe that I need to be absolutely 100% certain about the facts that are shared, especially when they pertain to and impact someone's livelihood. Red flag #3: Poor response from the company. I asked the plumbers to leave because I felt unsafe. I called the company to let them know that I was sending their employees back, and instead of first wanting to listen to what had happened, I was told that the plumbers had already called the company to inform them about what happened. When I asked what had been shared, I was told that that I was scared after accidentally locking myself out of the house. I had to clarify what had really happened. The company offered to send out different employees to finish the job, but I declined. My hope would be that a company would follow up incidents by speaking with both the customers and the employees to investigate what had happened and make sure that everything was resolved for both parties. Instead, I was the one who reached out to follow up and inquire about how the company would ensure that this incident didn't happen to other customers. I left a voicemail and received a call from the VP the following day. In speaking with the VP, I realized that she did not have the story straight. She was told that I locked myself out of my house and did not feel safe. I again explained what had happened and she let me know that she would follow up with the employees to make sure that they never lock any of the doors inside of customers' homes. This conversation took place 48 hours after the incident, and it was clear that nothing had been done prior to the conversation to learn more about the situation or remediate it. Lastly, red flag #4: See attached photo. I'm pretty sure that this is not how drywall is supposed to be cut.

However... we were led along by 58 for 4 months and told they would solve a foundation issue under an addition to our house built in 1982. The individual who came to our house seemed highly knowledgable and was confident that he knew the problem - he said that all other quotes we received were rubbish and didn't understand the issue. So... fast forward 4 months after a hassle of getting the right information to them for permits (seemed excessively long time, but ok, it's government). People who we've never talked to or worked with from 58 show up to do the job. They literally ask us, "what is the problem? what do we need to do?" First red flag. So we show them the problem that 58 has already done all the specs for. An hour later we get a knock and they call us to observe the problem, saying they cannot do the work because of the structure. They dug up a bunch of stuff and littered it around our yard (which, they said would probably happen but more frustrating that these workers never came back). We have to call 58 to figure out the problem (second red flag) and the person brushes it off like yeah already on it (ok then tell us you're already on it?). We continue to ask them for info for another month and it's well into winter now. We wanted to issue solved in the summer before the snow came. He finally gets back to us and says that they can't do the job and "are very sorry". That was it. We asked for the engineering plans to try and find out what the problem was. Never got those. We were never given compensation for them destroying our yard and not finishing the job. The best thing that happened is we got our deposit back. I'm sure everyone's experience is different, but I've never had a worse experience with someone providing a service. I'm a pretty chill person. But I'm still boiling about this a couple months later, so felt the need to write a stern review.
