Ric then carefully brought in several buckets of gravel and soil under the slab, installed a white PVC pipe, and extended it into the garage. From there, he routed the pipe up into the attic and out through a small hole drilled in the siding of the house. He worked diligently for six hours and did an impressive job. Ric made sure to clean up thoroughly after finishing, and he sealed the slab crack with specialized radon chalk. The alarm was going off, my property manager's emergency line was not answering, and the condo association's published emergency number was invalid. I eventually called the non-emergency fire station because I was concerned about water in the smoke detector and whether it could affect the building's alarm/sprinkler system. Hours later, around 10:30 PM, I received a call from someone who described himself as calling from an "emergency line." In that moment, I assumed he was connected to the property manager, condo association, or emergency response, and I started explaining the situation because I thought help had finally arrived. Instead, after a gut feeling something was "off", I discovered that he had gotten my name from fire department dispatch information and was contacting me to solicit business. Even after I told him I did not appreciate being called at 10:30 at night with him claiming to respond to my emergency call, he demanded the names of the property manager and property owner. That is wildly inappropriate. An active leak involving water damage and a smoke detector is not a marketing opportunity. Using emergency-response information and vague "emergency line" language to get someone on the phone during an active crisis is misleading and predatory. I would never hire or recommend someone who conducts business this way. I didn't trust this guy after just a few minutes on the phone with him, I definitely wouldn't let him in my house.

Alarmed, I called a civil engineer and had an assessment done. They ascertained our house was sinking, particularly in one corner, and recommended ~30 push piers around the perimeter and up the centerline of the house... for over $100k. I literally laughed at him and asked him who he thought I was that he thought I could afford that. I called a few other places and got questionable assessments, and then I spoke with Yos from DMV. What a breath of fresh air. He was personable and honest. He recommended we get a 3rd party civil engineer to produce a report with drawings that I could use for any foundation company - even if I didn't go with DMV. We (finally, after a loooong delay on the civil engineer's part) got the report and drawings, and Yos and his team began work in early January to install ~10 helical piers on the sinking corner of the house. It was a pretty invasive project, but his team was fantastic. Fast forward 5 months and the cracks have stopped appearing, with a number of them even closing. We are very satisfied with the work DMV did for us, and are particularly pleased with their honesty. Where one company tried to sell us an overkill solution for six figures, Yos was upfront and told us what we really need - to address that affected area and revisit others if they end up being an issue - for roughly a quarter of the other company's price.
