My husband and I dined here a couple times during our weekend stay at the Abbey. Truthfully, it's just what I expected - an A-OK experience, but nothing to write home about. 240 West is a super convenient spot to dine when staying at the Abbey Resort though. They have a nice dinner buffet on the weekends and a brunch buffet as well. I like that they give you the option to do the buffet or order from the menu. As for dinner, I'd say I would have rather just ordered from the menu, because the buffet wasn't that outstanding and I wasn't really going up for seconds. Brunch though, I say buffet all the way! They had so many great options including an omelette station, all the salad fixings you could want, waffles, and more. I was pregnant when we were here so no drinking for me, but their mimosas and bloody Mary's are a delightful brunch option as well. High fives to the waitress who gave me a sparkling water with a lime in a wine class for my "mock tail!" The ambiance in this restaurant is cozy with a dressy casual vibe. It seemed like people were rolling in wearing everything from sweatpants to flip flops, but I personally think it should be treated as a nice casual restaurant despite being located right in the resort. We were here in the winter so the window views weren't that spectacular unless staring at snow and a frozen lake are your thing, but there was a great fireplace in the back of the restaurant and a guy playing the piano too! Service was extremely friendly and fast. The hosts/hostesses didn't always seem to know what was going on, but our waitress both times was great. 240 West definitely wasn't the most memorable part of my Abbey Resort stay, but it's a fine dining option while staying here. read more

Had a lovely Thanksgiving buffet dinner. At 4pm the food was still fresh and abundant. I enjoyed the the fresh oysters and smoked salmon the most. Every kind of dessert imaginable. Great service as well! The Abbey rocks! read more

Dinner here tonight was really good! Live music was wonderful- piano Man. We had a group of 5 and each had the dinner buffet. They had many options and everything was cooked really well. I had a little bit of everything- highlights were the red snapper, the prime rib and a fantastic caramel cake. My mother and father came to stay at the Abbey for the weekend to celebrate my fathers birthday. Sunday brunch was planned at 240 West where my sister and I drove up from Chicago and joined them. The staff and service is absolutely incredible. They wait on you hand and foot, your dirty plate is never in front of your face for more than a minute and your coffee is never cold. Honestly, 5 Stars for the service. Unfortunately I wouldn't necessarily say the same thing about the food. For the price ($120 for 4 not including tip) it was very mediocre. There was nothing that stood out, it wasn't bad just wasn't something I would come back for. This restaurant easily accommodated our large and raucous group of young teens and parents. The atmosphere is very nice and welcoming. If this restaurant was in Hell's Kitchen or in the middle of Florence, I'd give it maybe 3 (3.5 if I could) stars. But considering that the volume of people is low during the winter, it's doing amazing things with its ingredients and service and it deserves the 4 stars. Go ahead, get in there. We had the calamari for app- it was light, perfectly cooked. Dips were great. Not exactly frozen! Super thrilled. Then we had a Caesar salad. The parm was shaved thick (so not out of a container ). The dressing has just a hint of anchovies- not too strong. Perfect. Scallops came next- it's hard to nail scallops. They're so often overcooked. Not here!! Flavorful and tender. Rice well cooked as well. Brussels and bacon was our least fav- too dark. But still well cooked. Well seasoned food that's perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients- yeah, that's here. The view is the only thing saving this place. Our server was VERY sweet but I was better off going to the Subway down the street and getting a $6 sandwich. First, we waited 15 minutes to be seated with only 8 other people in the entire restaurant. My dinner was so bad that I spit it out because it tasted like cleaning solution and the table next to us was complaining to the manager about finding something in their salad and the manager was rationalizing with them why their salad was still edible. It's very deceiving because you'd think the restaurant met the same expectation of the Abbey Resort but it was like a really poorly managed, overpriced, outdated supper club from hell. Stayed at The Abbey so it was on site and the best option that wasn't bar food so we gave it a try. Felt like I was in six flags with the show tunes the guy was playing on the piano. My wife was picking out Disney songs and other old timey tunes kin to Dundley's Wild West Town. For $145 for two people you would think the atmosphere would be better. Let's get to the food. Filet was great...short rips were served in a soup bowl. Who the hell serves this in a bowl? Dish is screaming for mashed potatoes and a PLATE! It's not beef stew. Guess you get what you get in Lake Genevaville, I'd hit up somewhere else though. read more

Was not aware of the "buffet" until we arrived. The quality of food was not good for the price. Although there was only two of us and we only ordered two peligrinos from our waitress we were charged a 25.00 gratuity. Our total was $150.00 which would have not been a problem if the food was actually good. There were 3 crab legs left in the "buffet" as well as many other things. I would have rather ordered from the menu which I thought was available but it wasn't than pay for that. It was beyond terrible. We couldn't leave considering it was Christmas Eve and everywhere else was full or closed except for fast food. I also made the reservations 1 month in advance and wish I didn't. Wow. What a difference a server makes. My last review gave this a solid five stars due to our server that day. Unfortunately we did not have Jaymie as our server yesterday and the lack of attentive service was discouraging. The prime rib was excellent as usual and the omelette station and omelet maker remained top notch. However our waitress Brenda could not keep up with the demands of our four top table. The "endless mimosas" were ended several times as we had to flag down our server to ask for assistance with our empty glasses. My wife was drinking white wine during brunch and she likes a glass of ice on the side. Having to ask for ice once is understandable but having to ask repeatedly due to forgetfulness and inattentive service is unacceptable. Now for my biggest pet peeve: dirty plates. It shouldn't be rocket science, right? When a plate is empty remove it from in front of me! When I am serving myself to a buffet, I am not going to bring a dirty plate back to the carving station. When I get up to get an additional serving I should return to a clean and tidy table. This was not the case yesterday. Numerous occasions found my guests and I returning to a table that had been ignored while we were making new selections. Best dinner I've had in a long time. The mixed grill meal (salmon, ribs, filet mignon, and sweet potato) was absolutely perfect. I highly recommend this place when visiting Lake Geneva. We also had the hazelnut gelato with Nutella whipped cream. It was to die for! Yum! read more

240 West has a nice setting with views of Lake Geneva, but unfortunately the romance ends there. We came here for Xmas Day Brunch, and there were just a number of things wrong: * Getting champagne/sparkling wine was like pulling teeth (it seemed our waitress asked the hostess who asked the manager who asked, I don't know, the baby Jesus perhaps, and we finally were given a wine list from the dinner menu). * Water refills happened once, maybe twice. In general, the coordination of service was kind of sloppy. * The omelet station used a pre-mixed batter, not freshly cracked eggs, and even though the chef manning the station worked very hard, the resultant egg was just...not enjoyable. * The oysters were not fresh and warm. * The bacon...soggy. And soggy bacon just makes me sad. :( * For being Xmas Day, there wasn't a very celebratory feeling -- it felt like a breakfast factory that was trying to move in and move out the patrons as quickly as possible. Some of this may sound knit-picky, but 240 West positions itself as a nicer dining experience at a well-known hotel. If this were IHOP, I'd have no basis for these complaints, and I wouldn't be so critical. But for a place that touts a nicer experience, they have some learning to do. Oh, I take back what I said earlier about the romance ending. Our waitress was a warm and welcoming lady who earned every penny of her 30% tip. My girlfriend and I both decided on the burgers and I really enjoyed mine. It was perfect except for the fact that I asked for mine medium and my girlfriend asked for hers medium well and we got the wrong ones.. We could have switched but we ordered different cheese and toppings. Wasn't a big deal but it was annoying. Our waitress took forever to give us more water and we had to ask twice for straws. When she did finally bring the straws she brought them in her hands unwrapped and placed them directly on to the table. I was not happy about that at alllllllll. High priced restaurant with average to bad food. I ordered French onion soup, the NY strip- medium, and bacon Brussels sprouts w a bottle of Pinot noir. Thursday was half priced wine which was a great way to start the meal. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The soup was on point. Unfortunately the entree was very disappointing. The steak was dry, chewy, and relatively flavorless. When I spend $30+ on a steak I expect it to at least be cooked right. The Brussels sprouts were a little too mushy but had ok taste. For dessert I ordered the cinnamon flan and my wife ordered the flourless cake. Both desserts were ok. The bill came out to be around $150 I was hoping the restaurant would be a lot better as we are staying at the abbey for a few nights and was looking forward to having good food within walking distance. My husband and I spent this past weekend in Lake Geneva on a "minimoon" following our wedding. We stayed at The Abbey and dined at 240 West our first evening there. I am a bit of a foodie and was pleasantly surprised by the fare at 240 West as I was not expecting much from a hotel restaurant in Wisconsin. We started out with the Cheese Board appetizer and loved all different cheeses that came with; however, both types of bread they presented us had fruits and nuts in them. While the breads were delicious I would have preferred something a bit more plain that would have allowed the cheeses, mustard, and fig jam to shine. I skipped the salad/soup course and my husband went with the Sweet Corn Crab soup. He enjoyed it but it was a very small serving size and nothing to write home about. For our entrees we decided to share the New York Strip and Scallops. The entree was truly the best part of the meal! The scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned, they absolutely did not need the rosemary pesto that accompanied them. The steak was equally well prepared and seasoned and I went bananas over the baked potato! So few places actually grill their potatoes and you can really tell 240 West does their potatoes right! Edward was our server and he provided great recommendations service, even having the manager comp us a dessert and sparkling wine when he heard we were newlyweds! For the most part I really enjoyed 240 West and think a couple small tweaks to the menu could really set it a part! read more

My friend and I stayed at the resort for a girls weekend and decided on dinner at this restaurant. We were told about the buffet, and that was right up our alley! Food was pretty good for a buffet and many of the items on the menu sounded excellent, but we had no room for any extras after the buffet. I would definitely recommend eat there. Went yesterday to celebrate our 59th wedding anniversay...........got there at 5:00 we were the second couple to be seated, when our waitress came she was training a new employee which was fine............unfortunately the new employee had sprayed her cologne so heavy and having a breathing problem I started a whizzing cough........not only her hair was hanging around her face which I cringed to think it could be in my food:( My husband placed his drink order (vodka tonic with lime) may I add lime must have been cut few days ago! He tasted his drink it didn't taste like tonic more like seltzer water, now waiting for our waitress to return.....no where insight, finally my husband walked around to see if he could find anyone, they finally appeared, he explained to Amy about drink her comment was I did mixed it with tonic water (don't argue with customer just apologize and remake).......well bottom line the tonic she used from tap was flat she opened a fresh bottle and made the drink! We told the waitresses to give us 10 minutes, well after 22 minutes and they finally came out:( We ordered the special for $120.00 for two people I ordered the beef short rib, my husband ordered 7 oz steak! Dinner finally came I panicked thinking will there be a long blonde hair in my food:(! Of course had to keep asking for water! Noting the other waiters were attentive to their tables with water! Bottom line my husband's steak was okay...........but my four chunks of beef over wide noodles with a mushroom sauce was nothing but fat along with a over salted sauce (I would call this beef stroganoff) the new trainee after several minutes came out and asked how our meal was, I told her it wasn't the greatest very salty and very fatty.....her comment was (well some fat is good for you):(........must I add this was the only table they had! When they finally came back again we asked for our desert and check it was already 6:35 p.m. (note 2 couples came in after us were served and left I wish we had one of the male waiters! When the check came I told the Amy please don't recommend this entree:( and explained why! Amy did deduct $15.00 from our bill. Finally leaving at 6:50 p.m.. Just what I wanted to do was to drive back to Illinois at dusk!! At least early boat cruise was a very pleasant experience, but ending our day unfortunately was not a pleasant experience! This is a great place for a resort restaurant. We loved the prime rib buffet and the buffet breakfast! If we come back to The Abbey, we will definitely eat here again. The hostess remembered us the next day, and made sure we got great seating. The waitresses were great and attentive, even with very busy crowds (Saturday night and Sunday morning). Made our stay! Don't go to the Waterfront (terrible service!)... pay the extra and go to 240 West! read more

We stayed at the Abbey for couple nights for our anniversary. Had the Sunday Champagne brunch and a dinner here. Both meals were excellent. Definitely worth 5 stars! So convenient to have this onsite. Great service. They gave us free champagne at our dinner for our anniversary and let us use the spa no charge, which was also excellent! read more

As usual when we are in Lake Geneva, we did both the prime rib dinner buffet and the breakfast buffet the next morning. I couldn't recommend both of them more. Prime rib available at both buffets, at least 7 entrees for both, salad bar, dessert, waffle and omelet station- such a treat!! read more
