I called Transitions, and they were kind enough to come to our home -- which made an incredibly difficult moment feel far more peaceful and personal. The veterinarian who came was exceptional. She walked me through every step of the process, kept me engaged and talking, and somehow managed to steady me through something I wasn't sure I could hold together for. Her composure and compassion made all the difference. When it was over, she gave me quiet time alone with Max -- no rushing, no awkwardness. Just space to say goodbye. Transitions handled one of the hardest moments of my life with remarkable care and sensitivity. I can't recommend them enough.

When we called, I believe, Kim, answered the phone with so much sweetness and kindness. She was patient and answered all of my questions and concerns, all through my tears and sniffles. I called on a Friday afternoon and booked our appointment for Sunday afternoon. She sent clear email instructions and told us to call for anything. Dr. Justin Altman showed up at 2:30pm on the dot. He came in with a comforting confidence. He sat with us and let our Big Black Bear, Rossi, the sweetest 14 year old Black Lab, warm up to him. It didn't take long, as Rossi loved everyone. He was a gentle giant. Justin saw the large mass on his front left leg and immediately said bone cancer as well as explained the quick decline he must have had. He asked us questions about Rossi's health and behavior and reassured us it was the right decision, we NEEDED to hear this from a professional, as the cancer had most likely spread elsewhere in his body and the mass would not go away. Once he explained all of this, we were ready to proceed. My husband and Justin easily moved Rossi onto his bed. Justin explained the process, and allowed us all the time we needed. The sedative that would kick in and relax him and take away his pain, and then the euthanasia injection. He gave us privacy to say our final goodbye after he had checked that his heart had stopped beating. He returned with a small stretcher to carry out Rossi's body to his car. His wife Robin would receive Rossi's body for aquamation. A three week process. We had filled out the form prior to the euthanasia so Rossi could start right away. We picked him up in Lakeside and was given a paw print and a beautiful brown box with his remains. Kim, Justin, and Robin were extremely professional and sympathetic. I highly recommend their services and will be referring them in the future to all my fur Mamas and Papas.

Atlas was 13yo, and I made the difficult decision to decline the invasive treatment options available. Instead, I vowed that Atlas would live out the rest of his days with peace and joy, never stepping foot in a vet clinic again. Peaceful Veterinary Care allowed me to keep that vow to Atlas by giving him a calm and dignified passing at home surrounded by his favorite people. From the kind and empathetic staff answering my questions over the phone to Dr. Rose's professional and compassionate bedside manner with Atlas and me alike, everyone at Peaceful Veterinary Care is truly in service of the families they care for. The day of Atlas' passing was beautiful and bright, so we all went out to my backyard where Atlas could feel most comfortable. We were not rushed in our goodbyes or grief, and the entire process was quiet and calm... I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to plan those arrangements for my dearest boy. He deserved nothing less. I will add that I initially chose Peaceful Veterinary Care because I was especially interested in their aquamation services. I knew that I wanted Atlas' ashes, but I also wanted a more environmentally responsible option than traditional cremation. Atlas' remains were ready in one short week, and they even included a beautiful clay paw print and a small collection of fur. The loss of a beloved family pet is profound and devastating. The services offered by Peaceful Veterinary Care honor the sanctity of those deep bonds, allowing space to truly celebrate the life and love shared.

She was incredibly warm, compassionate, and patient, guiding us through every step of the cremation process with genuine care. During such an emotional time, her kindness made all the difference. Don't let the exterior of the building fool you. From the outside, it looks like a simple building along a busy main road, but once you step inside, it's beautifully decorated, warm, inviting, and feels homey. They also offer a wide variety of thoughtful, personalized keepsakes and memorial options to honor your pet in a meaningful way. We dropped off our pet, and by the very next day we received a call that she was ready. The process was handled with professionalism, respect, and compassion from beginning to end. What stood out most was that it truly felt like a caring mom-and-pop business where every family and every pet matters. I can't recommend West Coast Pet Memorial highly enough. First and foremost, "individual cremation" is not actually individual cremation. It is partitioned cremation. "Private" is what I would consider truly private. The distinction is incredibly frustrating because the word "individual" naturally implies that a pet is cremated separately, not simply separated or partitioned from other pets. I had to put my dog, Winston, down on Wednesday. I specifically told the vet that I wanted an individual cremation, not a communal cremation. I then paid for what I believed was an individual cremation through the Eternal Memories website--not West Coast Pet Memorial's official website. Scam #1 . Nowhere on the site I used did I see that individual meant partitioned. I only discovered what was actually happening because I wanted to know where Winston was in the process on Friday. Had the company provided updates like other pet memorial companies do, I probably never would have known. Once I found out, I spent the entire weekend worried and praying that they had seen my email and would not cremate him until I could figure out what to do. Because the company was closed for the weekend, I had no way to get answers. I was literally considering picking Winston up and taking him to Sorrento Valley Pet Memorial, which sounded like a much better option. They offered truly private cremation, at approximately the same price, without the confusing terminology. They also offered the option for me to be present and actually watch the cremation. At that point, that felt like the only way I could know for certain that the ashes I received were Winston's. I know I was not in the right headspace . Monday morning, I finally received a call telling me that I could pay an additional $120 to have a truly private cremation. At that point, I honestly didn't have the energy to fight anymore. I had already spent days worrying about this and had come to terms with the fact that what I wanted for Winston might not be honored. I am incredibly disappointed by this entire experience. The terminology and pricing should be completely transparent. I received Winston's ashes in a "beautiful" blue bag, but will always have the doubt it's not Winston.
