Note: Review is for the area and in comparison to other similar restaurants. No, it's not four stars if you compare this to a nicer Japanese place but this obviously isn't trying to be. Anyway, I've been to this tiny little sushi spot a handful of times. The people here are friendly, the food is pretty good, and they make stuff pretty quickly. The main thing I order is the Ginza Special Lunch which has 2 each of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with a choice of an eel avocado, spicy salmon, or spicy tuna roll which I think is around $17 or $18 for a good size lunch. The yellowtail is my preference of the bunch but all are pretty solid. I have also had three roll combo which is fine with the same quality fish but I find the sashimi here is better than the rolls. Both of said lunches comes with the standard salad or miso soup you find in most other Japanese takeout spots. The quality each time has been solid at least in terms of fish which is the more important part though the rice hasn't always had the best texture (which is one of the reasons why the sushi is worse than the sashimi. In terms of the area, I prefer Blue Mountain a bit on 3rd several blocks down at least for the selection as well as their sushi box and their more consistent rolls but this has easily taken over Oishi Bay as the second best option in the area. As others have mentioned in their reviews on various platforms, it can be hit of miss with this place; sometimes the quality of fish is fresh as one can expect from a hole in the wall and given the reasonable prices, while others the quality is questionable. Every neighborhood needs a really good, reliable, basic Japanese place and 251 Ginza absolutely fits the bill. It's been around for many years but I only discovered it about a month ago. I'm not really a sushi eater so I've focused on the cooked dishes and they're all terrific. The lunch bento box is one of the best deals in town. Something as simple as miso soup can, at many places, taste like dish water. Not here. Delicious with lots of seaweed. The teriyaki and don buri and tempura - all excellent.
