He was only supposed to have one tooth removed, but another was extracted without my permission. When I tried to discuss it, the front staff was rude, and the veterinarian, Dr. Meghan Tumlinson, avoided speaking with me until I insisted. Once we finally spoke, she talked over me and openly admitted she made the decision on her own instead of calling to get my approval. My dog is not even two years old, and the tooth they removed was on the opposite side of the one that actually needed treatment. It makes me believe something went wrong during the procedure that they're not taking accountability for. His stitches have come apart, he's still in pain, and I now have an appointment with another vet to assess the damage. This clinic showed poor professionalism, zero transparency, and no respect for clients or their pets. I will not be returning and hope this review helps others avoid going through the same experience. In one instance, tests were run on on of my dogs without prior authorization; while the clinic did ultimately refund those charges (which I appreciated), standard practice should require discussing and approving costs in advance. The most disappointing experience, however, was during my senior dog's final illness. When he became critically ill, I reached out seeking care but was told they were fully booked and could not see him. We sought care elsewhere, where his condition was promptly assessed and a clear treatment plan was provided. Shortly after, we had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him. What compounded our grief was the lack of follow-up or acknowledgment. There was no check-in after referring us elsewhere, no expression of sympathy after being notified of his passing, and we later received an automated vaccine reminder for a dog who was no longer alive. After nearly a decade as a client, I expected clearer communication and greater compassion during such a difficult time.

Unfortunately I had to put my senior dog down approx just a bit over a week after the visit due to what I believe was a heavy prescription dose. I was bringing my 16+ yr old dog to this vet for librela injections the past few months since moving back to town. I knew my buddy was wearing down, but beyond slow walking from arthritis, he wasn't showing any other major signs. The last visit I scheduled was to have an honest conversation with the dr about end of life and signs to look out for since it was my first time going through this. I knew the dr Cagle was out of town on holiday, and I specifically asked for an experienced dr to meet. I showed up to the appointment, only to be met by a dr who in my best description seemed "sedated"... she looked hung over/out of it, she showed no empathy or care about the situation, struggled to form coherent sentences, and provided absolutely no good information, and after about a minute or two of looking at my dog (first time) was ready to walk out. I pointed out to the dr my dog had some skin rashes (which she barely looked at) and had been diagnosed with early kidney disease a couple of years ago, but no major progression. She prescribed 300mg gabapentin twice daily and carprofen 100mg every other day if gabapentin didn't work. I wasn't sure why but she suggested it would alleviate any lingering pain. Also amoxicillin for skin rashes. (I learned later that this dr was a temp and on "benadryl" ) I followed dosage instructions and woke up the next day to an unresponsive dog (He was given his last gabapentin the night before around midnight). I thought he was dead. Had urinated his bed and was just dead weight with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. I had to monitored him for the following 36-48 hrs, and he never fully regained complete mobility of his limbs or could hold weight. He seemed super disoriented at all times. I seeked advice from other local doctors who all seemed to agree these were heavy doses for a senior dog with potential kidney disease, as these meds are hard on the kidneys. I must say dr Cagle did reach out about this situation during his trip, after I voiced my displeasure with the visit to the staff. He stuck to this being proper treatment, and said he would follow up on dec 19th when back in town. My dog had to be put down on dec 22nd... and I never received any follow up to even see how he was doing....

This one has been difficult to write…read more We've been taking our pups here for 5+ years and have nothing but positive remarks about the team, services and facility. About three weeks ago, we had to do the unimaginable. Our oldest pup had kidney failure and we had no choice but to let her go to sleep a final time. We called ahead so the team would be prepared. What I didn't expect was the professionalism, empathy and preparation we received. For starters, they have a private, separate entrance to accommodate the gravity of the situation. You enter into a room where you are given time to spend with your pup and family in these difficult final moments. Only when you're ready do you signal via a silent button for the vet and tech to come in. They explain the process and give you a little more time to say goodbye. After a final confirmation, the process begins and is over quickly. Throughout the process, the technician is stabilizing your pup and saying sweet words to them and us. We had the option to hold the pup ourselves but couldn't. When it was over, we were allowed to remain in the room by ourselves until we were ready to leave through the same private door. I thank Garden Oaks Veterinary Clinic for their support, compassion and their private accommodations. I can't think of a more respectful way to handle such a difficult situation. A final comment, they have after death care services available as well.
