I cannot say enough good things about the vet clinic. They do get busy but they never forget about you. When I was moving overseas they took care of all the documentation (which was VERY COMPLICATED) and paperwork. Now that I'm back I take my Maine coon and they are SOOOOOOO accommodating it's shocking (in a good way). Nowadays it is so hard to get good service, but this clinic has nailed it. This vet is less than a mile away -- the reviews I read were't great, but my pup means the world to me, and I am not sure where there are any vets nearby. I booked an appointment online for first thing this morning. It clearly showed there were a couple of appointments available and I took the first one. Half an hour before the appointment they texted to say they were booked. I explained my situation and the best they could do was say call around. The person texting was nothing but rude. Negligent practice. Don't bring your pet here! My experience with this clinic since Dr. McDaniel passed has been horrific. Coming from a personal referral I have stayed loyal to this company even after she passed. Unfortunately the company has went down hill and the service I have received from this clinic is less than satisfactory. I have been very hesitant in posting anything about my dog Apollo since I first got him. I had faith Montrose veterinary clinic could help his health issues but they failed. He is a purple ribbon bred American Bully. He was first pick of his litter and is absolutely beautiful. He was being trained to service me due to a disability and as a leisure activity we were training to compete in dog shows due to his amazing stature and build. I reached out to the office to come up with a plan for their misdiagnosis of my dogs illness. The office management immediately went to defensive mode and didn't even ask how my dog was after explaining I had to take him to another vet because the last experience I had with dr perry was awful and she was extremely rude and quick with me on the phone. My dog was suffering with extreme pain by this clinic prescribing the wrong course of treatment for my dogs illness. Complete negligence and lack of knowledge on the veterinarians side of things. As dog owners and cat lovers we want to trust that our veterinarians know what's best for animals and continue to be sure they are healthy. As a member of this community I do not recommend this clinic stay far away from them and do not trust anything they say. My dog almost died coming here. I have went every month since I got him, spent thousands of dollars on my other dog here, called every week and still no care or competence of his bladder issues. He is now being treated for bladder stones by another clinic and is fighting for his life. I am praying that we don't have to do surgery on this poor puppy. his quality of life has suffered and so has mine because of their missed diagnosis of my dogs illness. RUN! DO NOT COME HERE. Well I came back because I was assured by many people that I know that things were different. Well they are. The technology has improved quite a bit. However, I don't know how to really convey this, but the vet techs seem to be ill-suited for their jobs. I have never seen techs who have as little chemistry with animals as this bunch does. They actually seemed afraid of their patients And their response to their own fear is to treat their animal patients very aggressively. They don't seem to know how to de-escalate a situation with an animal, address theirs fears or even befriend them to get them to cooperate with procedures and such. I find it very perplexing. The vets are fine. But it stands out quite markedly that more than one of the vet techs at this hospital have absolutely no chemistry with animals. read more

We've taken both of our golden retrievers here for a few years now. We had one incident a few years back with Dr. Lane and our larger dog about a medication but continued to go because the vet techs and Dr. Perry have been pleasant to work with. We brought our 1 year old and a few months golden retriever to get spayed yesterday. I was hesitant to keep my appointment because when it was booked, I did not receive much information about prep or post care from the front office. I had to call a few days before the scheduled procedure to make sure that we were well prepared since she was going under anesthesia, and this is a major surgery. I definitely should have trusted my gut and not gone to Montrose clinic for this. When we arrived, I communicated to the vet tech that she is a fairly anxious dog and may need extra medication, post treatment or care during the procedure, which is why I brought blankets and toys for her. She told me they had blankets and she can't take her own back. The vet tech seem to really not care and just brought her back to the room with her one toy. We were told that we would receive a phone call once the procedure was done between 4 and 5:30 P.m. By 5 PM I hadn't heard anything all day knowing the close at 6PM. I called and was then told she was ready for pick up having no idea how long she must have been sitting there done with her procedure. Once I arrived, I communicated my disappointment and how the situation was handled, and the front desk asked if I had received a call when the surgery was done, which I had not. I did not receive a call when the surgery was done nor did I receive a call when she was ready for pick up. The vet tech and front desk individuals were apologetic and understanding, but I do not put the blame on them. I put the blame on Dr. Lane who did the procedure and did not communicate to anybody that our dog was ready for pick up because she supposedly had another obligation she had to leave the clinic for.Emergencies happen but I was then told she spoke with the vet tech and the front office about other clients and other animals that she had seen that day. Again no mention about our dog being ready for pick up after a major surgery. I highly do not recommend this facility or Dr. Lane for how horrible she handled this situation. When we picked up our dog she was trembling with anxiety which just angered me more about this. I am appalled at this behavior and how Dr. Lane did not care fully for our dog from beginning to end. read more

Not sure how I feel about Montrose Vet Clinic anymore. After my dog's first set of shots, I took him to the kennel for a weekend getaway and informed the onsite vet to watch over him because of his recently administered shots. She asked how many - er, three vaccines, a booster and Bordetella. She was shocked he was given so many in one visit because with multiple shots and also combination shots, your pet can have a negative reactions. (You can also read such reports and studies online.) So happy with this office. I recently found out that my 10 year old cat is a diabetic. The doctors, Dr. Lang and Dr. Nixon have been nothing short of amazing. I am still struggling with getting my cat stabilized and regulated but they have made the process as easy as they could. Every staff member Ive come in contact with has been extremely empathetic and informed. The docs here are very good and caring, although I've never been helped within 15 minutes of my appointment time, and I have to agree with some others who say the front desk staff is a bit slow. In addition, I think (like many vets here in Houston), they over vaccinate pets, even though Montrose is cool with 3 year rabies (some Houston vets insist every 12 months). There's been a couple treatments where my West Coast vet said they should have run blood work to check for medication side effects, and Montrose did not even mention the possible side effects. I don't like the boarding here because here is just no place for the dogs to walk except for a little patch of grass on Montrose. They could really use a better location for this area of Houston (the parking lot really sucks as well), narrow and difficult to get in and out of when they are busy. read more

Very friendly front office technician and extremely helpful when in an immediate need situation. I called on a Friday morning worried about my new kitten and they got her in within a few hours that day. This was first week of October 2021 and their COVID protocols were excellent! Very knowledgeable staff and the Doctor was attentive and answered all my questions, as well as helped to quell anxieties over not knowing much about upper respiratory infections and conjunctivitis. I've never had a dog, let alone a puppy so I had lots of questions my first visit; 15 hand written questions in fact. I wrote them down and sent my fur baby off to see Dr. Kennedy while I waited patiently in my car (Covid restrictions). After his visit, Dr. Kennedy patiently answered all 15 questions and a few more that I'd forgotten to write down. She gave me wonderful advice that day and personally picked up the line when I called the next day with a question about hydration! The staff at Montrose Vet Clinic are the absolute best! Dr. Perry is amazing. She is compassionate and knowledgeable. We were with MVC for about 4 or 5 years with our senior dog, Gumbeaux. He was treated for everything from an accidental rat poison ingestion to routine visits and immunizations. The staff and Dr. Perry were especially kind when it was time for him to make the journey over the rainbow bridge. Although we didn't use their services for end of life care due to his large size, they were very empathetic and arranged special times to fit him in if it had been needed. I went to this office for about 7 years for dog and cat pet care. the doctor turnover rate is so high that we rarely saw the same one twice. they are twice as expensive as other vets in the neighborhood. i knew this and continued to go there because the location is convenient, they offer boarding, and i thought they were doing a decent job. then, they killed my dog. i boarded him for a weekend because we were supposed to go out of town. our trip got cancelled, but i couldn't pick up my dog on saturday, so i just waited until monday to get him. i got a call monday morning that my dog was unresponsive. he was actually in a diabetic coma. basically, he had been throwing up since saturday, and nobody called me, nobody treated him, and he became dehydrated to the point of going into a coma. the worst part is that i was right down the street, since my trip was cancelled. i was very angry and spoke/emailed with the director several times. these people didn't want to take responsibility at all...they barely apologized, and basically put the blame on one vet (it wasn't even her fault, it was the fault of the staff). we rushed my dog to gulf coast vet hospital and dropped $11,000 to try to save his life, but of course it was too late. montrose vet clinic didn't even refund me for the boarding fee i paid. i probably could have sued over such blatant neglect but didn't have the energy after being so heartbroken about my dog. read more

There is a reason this clinic has so many stars and I will add another notch on my own accord. I drive by this place all the time heading home. When our "rescue" dog's original owners had failed to ever provide us with the dog's perpetuated paperwork and medical files, I knew the only right thing to do was to take her in myself to a vet clinic that could give her everything she needed. The parking lot was something that pleased me to no end. To go anywhere in montrose area any time of day or night generally means a side street parking spot and a brisk walk to the final destination. Nope, not this time, I parked right in front. I walked in 10 minutes early and the tech was already waiting for me and my dog. The ladies behind the counter smiled (not fake) and each took a few minutes to play with my little girl and give her treats and behind the ear scratching (which is her favorite!) The tech was very interested to know anything that I already knew and then took our dog to the back to start the basics. I was greeted by my Dr and she was very outgoing and interested in the concerns I expressed. ( I wish this woman was a people dr, she'd have my business.) She loved the fact I had a list of questions and went through each and every one, one by one, fully explaining from social behavior to why my dog can't get enough cat poop (yeah, it grosses me out too) to why her hair was thinning on her face even catching hair thinning on her legs that I myself had missed. They were incredibly thorough and explained a lot to me, even about the two breeds she is mixed as. The prices are incredibly good. I have a friend that works an hour away in a vet clinic that stated that. Without judging, I think at times the everyday person doesn't understand how important healthcare is for an animal and tend to become dumbfounded when they see the sticker price. The prices I paid reflect exemplary service and healthcare for my pet, a rescue that had never been loved and that shy's away to even a raised voice. The staff was very gentle and kind to my dog. After vaccinations, chip implant and nail trim I was sure she would be ready to get up out of there, but she just wanted to stay and play, that says a lot about a vet when the dog DOESN'T want to leave. Overall I am incredibly satisfied with the vet, I never realized that a vet experience could be like this. After adopting my pug, Biscuit, from PugHearts rescue last week, she got a little respiratory infection and needed to see a vet. I remembered the great revues for Montrose Vet on Yelp and gave them a quick call. The owner, Dr. McDaniel, saw her first thing in the morning (I was there at 7:30 am), but they kept her there for observation so I could go to work. They called a short while later with the diagnosis and a thorough "adopted dog" work up. How awesome! I've been super happy w/ this vet for the little dude. I'm shocked that parking has never been an issue w/ it's location on Montrose. Every single staff member there has always been great. As in they actually seem to enjoy working there. I don't even get that at the doctor I've been going to since I was 13. Probably the best part is that they are very good, but not pushy about when lil buddy needs to go get a booster or what not. And why I appreciate that, is: A. I literally forget my own birthday and B. they don't try to couple it w/ some BS procedure like " And of course we'll need to protract his uvela and ovela to keep them from touching." My last dentist pulled some shit like that right after telling me my teeth were perfect. So basically I like Hondo's vet better than I like my own primary care givers. Sweet. Hmmm.... When my check-in was overlooked and we hadn't been seen for a half an hour we were offered no apology or concession for the oversight. A seemingly half efforted apology was exchanged between the front desk staff to each other but not to us. At the end of my appointment I left my dog at the office for a bath and a nail clip. I was given a bag of suppliments and sent to check out. The cost of the supplements at the counter was $80. The same supplements were less than $40 on Amazon. I bought the supplements from Amazon. That kind of difference between a brick and mortar and an online retailer is unacceptable. It is not a service to over charge your clients for supplements. A service would be to say, "We recommend you buy this from an online retailer where they can offer it to you at a reasonable cost." THAT would have been a service. When my dog was picked up after her bath it was obvious that she had burrowed in the blanket that had been put in the kennel w/ her and rubbed her nose bloody. The person who brought her from the back said they had pulled the blanket away from her when they realized she was hurting herself. In retrospect I must wonder how long my dog was unsupervised to get such a wound? To my knowledge there was no treatment of her bloodied and raw nose. This was our last visit to this office. Every doctor we have seen has been thorough and knowledgeable but the office staff & techs have seemed disenchanted w/ their roles in my dog's care. In this instance I asked for a credit to my account which then had to be approved by a manager. I have given this vet's office every opportunity to make my experience w/ them satisfactory but I am not satisfied. We are moving away from the area and I am actually looking forward to finding a new vet's office. I'm sorry to have such things to say as it not in my nature to condemn any person or place w/ ease but this is, unfortunately, what happened and my feedback about those events. If I weren't thinking at all, I would probably make this a Five Star review, but after considering a few things and reading what other Yelpers thought, I have a few comments. My own complaint is that they are really expensive, although I don't have much to compare them to. When we got Charlie a year-and-a-half ago, a friend recommended us this place, and we liked everyone there right away. About the prices, though, one thing I can say is that if they offer you anything there you can possibly buy anywhere else, do it! For example, they charge $20 for a dose of Advantage, which is a ridiculous markup. When we found it for an alarmingly cheaper price at PetSmart, we were in serious disbelief. They probably do over-vaccinate, but I don't think they are reckless about it. Charlie had to get a few vaccinations all in the same day -- they usually happen to fall around the same time once a year. But they told us there could be side effects and that if we noticed anything unusual to not hesitate to call or bring him right back, and we've never had any problems. Also, he gets the bordetella every six months. I read recently that some vets only do it once a year. Well, it must be for a reason. We recently adopted another dog who we call Bailey from the Humane Society, and it turns out he is sick. He has heartworms and kennel cough. The vet said since Charlie is up to date on his vaccines he would either be immune to it, or if he did get sick, would be so to a lesser degree. And thankfully, Charlie is in great shape. Bailey is still coughing, but the vet was happy to give us some more cough meds when he ran out. Other than the lingering cough, though, he is much better. They also gave him antibiotics to take for the month before his Heartworm treatment, which the Humane Society didn't offer. We are so glad we have MVC to offer second opinions while he undergoes treatment for that, too. Overall, though, I think we will always come back because MVC really cares. They remember our dogs. They check on us in the waiting room. They make phone calls to follow-up. They send reminders for immunizations in the mail. And they will explain things to you and talk to you as long as you need them to. They are always busy, but never rush when they are with you and your pet. The Verdict: Aw shucks, I guess I am going to have to give them the Big Five after all! read more

Searching for a vet in town was hard so I got on Yelp and saw all the high reviews for this clinic and booked an appt. Pros: I got in on the same day and my dog was treated and seems fine. I got there early which I don't recommend because you don't have to fill out paperwork and you won't be taken in until 5-10 minutes after your appointment time. The vet was nice but... Cons: I took my dog to get her annual exam and have a small laceration on her ear checked out. I didn't like that all the examination goes on in the back. I brought my dog into the exam room and then she was taken to the back so I waited 15 minutes in a stinky room. The facility is pretty dingy. I know it's Montrose but for a health facility, it was gross. Cost: I was expecting around $200 but it came out to $270 for the annual exam, heart worm, and pain killer medicine (that I really don't think my dog needed but they put it on my tab and didn't present a choice). I'll probably stick to a vet that's further out in Spring or go to Rice Village Animal clinic if I need immediate help. read more

Let's face it, going to the vet can be super traumatic. My new little Lucy doesn't mind going at all, being that the staff at Montrose Vet Clinic is super sweet, friendly, and VERY gentle. I started taking her here when she was just 8 weeks, and they were SO HELPFUL about giving me ALLLL the information a new puppy owner should have. (and believe me there is A LOT!) They were nice enough to recommend insurance, tags, shots, meds, ect. And answered A TON of questions, being that I hadn't owned a dog in YEARS! (since my childhood friend, Barbie passed when I was in college) The vet I see has a Shih tzu too, so she has been extra helpful in things to watch for, personality, ect which I appreciate. They have been great at being gentle being that she is a little puppy, and the wait time is minimal (even on a Saturday) Great place, would recommend! read more

After moving from Austin, the hubby and I looked far and wide for a great vet. We were accustomed to our bad ass vets in ATX and jumped vets until we found the right one for our two cats and Bichon Frise. After we found Montrose Vet Clinic, our searching stopped, and we've been taking our fur kids here for over three years. Almost every time I call, the staff is helpful and patient. If they can't answer my questions, they find a vet to ask or get on the phone to help me out! Talk about service! When we come in, the office is clean and busy (always a good sign), and the dogs look happy to be there! I know, weird right? But really, if all the dogs look freaked out and stressed, it kinda makes you wonder what they really do to them when they "take them to the back." dum dum dum duuuuuuuuuuuum... But I digress... We never have to wait very long to see the vet, and speaking of vets, Dr. K is an absolute gem! She has worked wonders with my pooch and kitties. I have to say that she is the first vet that my pets have not peed or pooed on during the visit! And this is after three years!!! So happy pets means happy Abby. My only complaint is with the front desk staff. They are generally just not really into helping you get out quickly. Also, the last time I called to schedule my dog's yearly shots I booked with Dr. Box. When I arrived, with two dogs, I was told Dr. Box was not in and asked if I would like to reschedule. Nobody apologized or offered an explanation as to why i wasn't called. I was able to get in with another doctor, who was fabulous as usual! After Oliver's surgery they sent a sweet card, and the reminders they send in the mail are nice and not pushy. We first started visiting Montrose vet because of its convenient location, but we have stayed with them for two years because the doctors genuinely do care about our dogs. read more

Today was my first appointment at The Montrose Veterinary Clinic, and I have to say, after using The Heights Veterinary Clinic for a year, this clinic was like a breath of fresh air. Having worked at a vet hospital for a few years in high school, I was accustomed to a high level of customer service, as well as superior technician and doctor care. After moving to Houston in 2011, and adopting a dog in 2012, I went to the Heights Veterinary Clinic based on a friend's recommendation. After various disappointing interactions with the staff, I decided that this year, when it came time for Chuy's annual follow up/boosters, I was looking elsewhere. The Montrose Veterinary Clinic was close by, so I figured I'd check its yelp reviews. The main complaint seemed to be that they were "too expensive," which I can live with if I feel I'm getting a level of service and knowledge that is worth the few extra dollars. Well, I can say they are definitely worth it. The total for the annual and boosters was very similar to the price tag at The Heights, and the service provided by the staff and the doctor completely blew The Heights out of the water. I had Dr. Bolden today, and she did a superb job making my tiny baby feel comfortable. Usually he is a nervous wreck at the vet's, and at first he was this morning, but Dr. Bolden and her tech Alli did a great job making him comfortable. He didn't even let out his usual squeal when he got his vaccines. Dr. Bolden gave him a very thorough exam, and talked me through each step as she was doing it, so I felt like I had more knowledge of what she was checking. The tech and doctor made me feel very comfortable trusting their opinions, by informing of my options, such as heartworm/flea preventative, and which vaccines to get. I did not feel pressured to get anything unnecessary or questionable. I found my new vet, and it's a huge relief! read more

I started my review & after what became a novel realized no one would read the entire thing so decided to give the details people actually care about. This is my POV & hope & encourage you to try Montrose to write your own! Location - very accessible. Extremely clean facility with a cheery & welcoming feeling. Staff - receptionists were respectful & courteous & very helpful. Didn't feel like I was "bothering" them by being there as have at other clinics. As far as vet - have only seen Dr. Mayne on our 2 visits & will say we have found our vet! You can tell she loves her job & treated our Mimi as if she was her own. Her bedside manner & attention to our concerns was amazing. She followed up several times after surgery & felt we could call her with any questions after & she would be right there for us. She also volunteers at a non-profit in her spare time - how many Drs do that anymore! Pricing - rarely have had need for any services other than routine vaccinations which generally get at low cost options so my ability to compare prices is minimal. However for the surgery we required & care we received I feel our fee was very fair. I would recommend Montrose to anyone I know needing care for their pets. I trusted this clinic to spay my dog and they almost killed my dog and said my dog had a heart problem. I took my dog to other clinics and looks like my dog does not have any heart problems and they made a mistake while sedating my dog and made her heart stop. They almost killed my dog!! I put a 200 dollar deposit for this shit and they don't want to give back my money!!! read more
